Clinton v. Obama on economy

Posted: Thursday, March 27, 2008 12:21 PM by Domenico Montanaro

From NBC's Domenico Montanaro
Obama and Clinton both delivered major addresses on the economy today. After Obama's speech, the Clinton campaign criticized it in an e-mail to the media:

“Presidents have to do more than announce principles," writes Clinton policy director Neera Tanden in the statement. "They have to solve problems. At a time of crisis in our financial markets, Senator Obama announced a series of broad, vague principles, while offering no new concrete solutions to provide Americans with greater confidence in the market or keep them in their homes.  The contrast could not be clearer -- on Monday, Senator Clinton announced a detailed, specific plan to address the housing and credit crisis.  On Tuesday, Senator McCain announced that he had no plan.  And today, Senator Obama offered just words.”

Obama spokesman Bill Burton responded this way: “We’ve all seen that the Clinton campaign never lets the facts get in the way of a good story, but they know full well that Barack Obama has offered thoughtful, detailed proposals to solve the housing crisis, one of which the New York Times just called the best idea from any candidate in the race. Senator Clinton’s new proposal this week amounted to calling for a meeting, so it’s pretty obvious that her latest kitchen sink attack is nothing more than just politics."

You just don't get it HRC, principles do matter. We need to know what our President believes in. Anyone can make a lofty pre-Presidency promise. Barack would rather not lie to the American people, something you clearly have a problem with. You have said yourself we don't know what we will inherit from Bush, we can't make very many promises based on information you do not yet know. He understands that. Where are your advisors anyway, don't they know this sort of thing or are you all just that arrogant?
you know, i do kind of like this new Obama strategy; I think they realize that the majority of the party is really getting fed up with the Clintons' antics, so they just laughingly brush it off like the nonsense that it is, and keep moving forward toward November.
Oh SNAP!

Breaking News!!!

I just saw Hillary packing her parachute preparing for a jump landing at her next event. She's out to prove she has foreign experience by asking her friends in Russia to join Hillary the Civil War Hero in the jump landing.....

More Breaking News at 10!
This is the first time I've seen the "just politics" retort. I love it! I hope the Obama campaign repeats it often.
Thank goodness the voter's have seen Hillary's execution of her campaign as an indicator of her ability to steer America from this Economic mess.Outright Rejection, as it should've been. There will be book's written on How Not to Run a Presidential campaign about her.Hopefully, it won't hinder a more Deserving Woman of running in the future. Her trying to bully Super delegates just because she has Bill in her corner has shown her quest for power at all cost.Damn the electorate!
Thankfully, Speaker Pelosi has more Power than wanna be Hillary.
Barack Obama has shown incredible leadership quality's all thru this campaign & the American voter has taken notice. The general election will be a cakewalk for Barack as he's been down this road before. He's shown that he won't let attack's go on without a well timed Smackdown.
America will be better off with Barack Obama as Our President.
Obama's speech sounds very much like it was taken from Hillary's?  He has nothing new to add or say.
Hey Hillary supporters LISTEN UP!
HRCs comments in  Pittsburgh were made to a newspaper owned by Richard Mellon Scaife. Remember him? You should. He funded THE ARKANSAS PROJECT that was out to get Bill Clinton. In other words Hillary is now talking to and getting a boost from "THE VAST RIGHT WING CONSPIRACY".

Her dishonesty, craven positioning, cheap shots at Obama etc. Indicate to me that she has zero integrity, a, negative sum of class and an opportunistic streak a mile wide to go along side the yellow streak she has too!
So Obama has lost 1 superdelgate, compared to Billary's 40-something in the loss column since super tuesday.

The Billary Clinton machine and their suppoters are quick to forget the mountain of scandals and the words perjury and impeachment. Not to mention Gov. Spitzer agian, but he was among those superdelegates lost for Clinton.  I guess birds of a feather ~ LOSE together!

Andrea Mitchell is stumping for Hillary again. Oh well, the lawn needs mowing...
I bet the Clintons are glad they bought extra kitchen sinks with all that Saudi Money they got over the years.

I hope the 20% of the Clinton supporters that won't vote for Obama when he wins the primary election will go back to being right wing of the Republican party where they belong...

For the other 80%, please get on board with us and help us end this. We know who won this fight, it is time to start the healing and get behind this wonderful candidate!   Please take another look at Obama...it isn't like switching teams, we are all Americans. "if you cannot change your mind, you cannot change anything!"

These special interests don't stand a chance against the over 1.2 million small donors that Obama has. Help our party grow that database and be a part of the Calvary that takes America away from those special interests!  After all it is all about the Supreme Court Justices, if McCain gets in, we are going to have some pretty tough laws to abide by.

There are some people who are willing to give up their lives for the good of this country... then there are some people who cannot even give up their obviously lost nomination for the good of the country...
There is a myth, loudly supported by the Clinton campaign, that Obama's rhetoric is empty with no specifics. I think that anybody who has really listened to both candidates in a thorough and objective way has to notice that they're about the same in the amount of 'specifics' that they offer.  Both have had plenty of time and opportunity to lay out their agendas and their plans to achieve them.  It makes sense for any reasonable candidate to leave a little wiggle room when it comes to certain 'specifics'.  Most things that they would attempt as president will have to be done with the cooperation of The United States Congress, a body which is designed by the Constitution to compromise.  An inflexible methodology doesn't help to create the change that both candidates espouse.
John McCain, is the person in this race with no specifics in his policy portfolio, except that he specifically endorses the presidency of G.W. Bush, and he specifically supports war in Iraq for an indeterminable amount of time.  When it comes to the economy, health care, education, jobs, and rebuilding US credibility, there's nothing there except his ringing endorsements of Bush.  Democrats should think about this before they start threatening to vote for him.
Whichever Democrat wins the nomination is the Democrat that I'll be supporting in November.

Senator Obama is a strategic thinker; Senator Clinton is task oriented. In business, strategic thinkers are sought as CEOs, task oriented thinkers are second level management. Without strategic thinking, tasks can be activity without reward or even damaging.

What kind of CEO do you want for the United States?
Let's see....Look at the finances of the Clinton campaign and the finances of the Obama campaign. Seems to me to be a no brainer!
Wow!!! Even her so called hometown paper is turning on her. Is she gonna call them a judas too??? Maybe she will say there opinion on it doesn't matter b/c they did not side with her. Hillary you are an embarrassment to people who consider them selves good citizens....
I would like to know what HRC and hes staff call that is coming out of her mouth,  LIES LIES.
They keep saying that Obama only has words, well I rather take what he is saying than the LIES that are coming from her.

HRC, LIES, LIES LIES & MORE LIES.
I guess they think that that is music LOL!!!!!!!!!

Great Response by the Obama Team.

The "Just Words" line that the Clinton team uses in every other reference to Obama constistently shows how she is will to say anything, and do anything (including destroying the party), to get her prize.  The response fromt he Obama camp of "Just Politics" is a great way to stay above the fray, and continue his message that he offers a quality alternative to the same old political tricks.
Hillary simply cannot tell the truth!

Lies,Lies, Lies, & more Lies.

Seriously, if the Obama campaign thinks this is "the kitchen sink" they really have no clue.  They sound like a bunch of puff-balls in a hockey game.

Shouldn't they just quit whining about having "the kitchen sink" thrown at them and get on with the business of telling us exactly what Barack Obama's experience is?  The distraction from his own record (and pastor) is getting pretty obvious.
Has Hillary given up? All of her quotes today contained the old lines: "When the phone rings at 3:00 in the morning", "Just words", "I have a plan", and the lies that continually come out of her mouth. If she is the only one that knows anything, why does she continually have to lie about everything?
Basically Clinton told Bush he should get some economic adviser together and talk about what to do with this problem. If she thinks that Bush is going to do anything about it, she doesn't have the judgment to be president. ANYONE can tell you that Bush isn't going to be doing anything to help out the people. However, eh will do whatever it takes to help out teh banks that are losing money. I'm still waiting the see the detailed plan that she has set up since the last time she was in a debate where she wanted a moratorium on the foreclosure rate.
Didn't Senator Obama ask Ben Bernacke for the same meeting in March 2007 in a letter to the chairman?
Sen. Clinton, presidents also have to be truthful to the American citizens, something that neither George "Dumbya" Bush and you have been able to accomplish.
Hillary where is your 2006 tax return, will it take another court order for you to release it? You have lawyers going over Senator Obama's with a fine tooth comb looking for some campaign dirt. We all know there is a 'deal breaker' in your 2006 tax return. Cough it up.
Why do all the Clinton "plans" always come down to how she would task someone else to come up with a plan?

My guess its because she doesn't really know anything about anything. I know her "plan" for exiting Iraq has her tasking the wrong people to come up with that particular plan.
