Delegate update: Obama wins TX

Posted: Tuesday, April 01, 2008 10:12 AM by Domenico Montanaro

From NBC's Domenico Montanaro
NBC News has allocated the remaining nine Texas caucus delegates, 7-2, in favor of Obama. That means the Illinois senator has won the most delegates, 99-94, as a result of both the Texas primary and caucuses.

Obama now leads by 129 in the overall delegate count, 1637-1508. Obama leads by 162 pledged delegates, 1415-1253. (There remains just one delegate unallocated from Democrats Abroad.) Clinton leads among superdelegates, 255-222, per the NBC News Political Unit count.

Also note, the Obama campaign has passed around that it has picked up two delegates in Mississippi, showing Obama with a 20-13 lead. NBC News' count remains 19-14 for Obama so far.

Wolfson at one particular time stated that "delegates" count and whomever has the most, will win the nomination, period.  Also, for those who complain about caucusing, if you are adament that your candidate is the BEST candidate, then the supporters will do whatever it takes for their candidate to win, regardless of how inconvenient the procedures are. This is what Obama supporters do.  I saw supporters that I know were probably age 80-85, and supporters in wheel chairs.  I attended my caucus, and was there from 8:30 a.m. to around 9:00 p.m.  You do what you have to do for the candidate that you believe is the best.  Stop complaining.  The process works, but you have to be knowledgeable as to how it works and follow through.
The lead of Sen. CLinton in the popular vote came from Rush Limbaugh voters who would NEVER vote for her in November!
TO PAM IN NC -
The reason people on the blogs are stating that the headline should be "Obama Wins Texas" is exactly because he won the delegate count.  At the end of the day, the person who wins the most DELEGATES is the nominee.  Hillary, herself, has said popular vote doesn't matter, it's the delegates that count (of course, that was before she lost 11 in a row).  The maps shown on CNN and MSNBC should show that Obama won Texas and Nevada, as he has won more delegates.  Give credit where credit is due.
Pat in Boston:

This is kids we are talking about.  According to the democrats when we were having this SCHIP debate nonsense,a kid is under 25 according to Nancy Pelosi.

I have lots of kids working around me.  They are more informed about the newest album, what Lauren is doiong on "The Hills" and how hot the current guy/girl is when they go out.  They care nothing about politics.

If they are getting into the races, more power to them!  They need to know how screwed up the country will be under a democratic run congress and White House LOL.
To all those Clinton-Heads who say they'll leave the party:  You may be able to stand  McCain over Obama for 4 years, but will you ab ble to stand a uber-conservative neocon Supreme Court for the REST of your life?  For you women, say bye bye to Roe-V Wade, that's exactly what the right wants to happen to this party, hence the Rush lintball Operation Kaos fiasco.  Leave if you must, but I don't want to hear you whining about Roe v. Wade, frankly, that issue is too divisive for me anyway.  Check, your move.....
Obama is on the move in PA. It's only a matter of time before does one of her crying stunts to fool people into voting for her again.
Lets not be disingenuous about this. If the positions were reversed the MSNBC headline would read OBAMA AHEAD IN POPULAR VOTE IN TAXAS.
It is now the responsibility of MSNBC and all other media outlets to publish this story on the front pages and officially correct their stories to reflect a clear mathematical win for Obama in TX.

Clinton's claims of a Texas victory have now been totally nullified.
If you include the 2 additional delegates from MI, and the recent endorsements of Richardson, Casey and Klobucher, that gives Obama 14 delegates in the last 2 weeks!!! And there hasn't even been any new voting!

Plus, with Pelosi and Dean likely on his side, it just looks worse and worse for Hillary each day.
Well.  As I said on MARCH 5, Obama officially wins Texas but Hillary gets to ride a false and FRAUDULENT momentum wave based on the LIE that she "won three out of four states on March 4."  Doesn't that sound good?  Good enough to ride all the way to Pennsylvania!

How loud would the chorus of "drop out Hillary!" have been across the land had the media not bought this load of crap, had they reported that she only won 2 out of the 4, only 1 out of the 2 major states in play that day, or at least that Texas as a whole could not be called for ANYONE yet? No. A "Clinton surge" was a much more compelling storyline than the actual truth, wasn't it?

Once again Hil shucks & jives (to use the racist language of her supporters) in order to BAMBOOZLE the media and the public she claims to want to serve.  Once again, as with Bullets-Over-Bosnia-Gate, she is proven a FLAMING LIAR and she'll laugh & toss it off with a cute anecdote and hope people will forget all about it.  "Texas?  What Texas?  I'm looking FORWARD not backward in this election!..."

Disgusting.  DROP OUT ALREADY, before you kill the party dead!
"Obama still can't win big states.  Obamabots can spin this all day long...."
**********************

You should probably look at some recent polls. Obama is AHEAD of Hillary in CA (kind of a big state).

But of course, this is all a part of the Clintonites spin that an inability to win a state in the primaries means one cannot win that same state in the general. It's a bogus claim though.
Obama still can't win big states.  Obamabots can spin this all day long.  However, a MAJORITY OF PEOPLE IN TEXAS SUPPORTED HILLARY. If Obama wants to do his impression of "W" in 2000, that is his decision.
Trev (Sent Tuesday, April 01, 2008 10:56 AM)

Too bad the general election is based on ELECTORAL VOTES not POPULAR VOTES!! So sorry Trev, when you lose a game based on the rules, you can't start redefining the rules, if a democratic candidate is chosen by the amount of delegates they have, then that is the rule, so I wouldn't care if Obama had 2024 delegates and Clinton had 2023, it is close but HE would still be the winner. You don't give the NBA, NCAA or NFL championship to both teams when the second place team loses only by a point!!! If that is the case then Davidson and Stephen Curry should be playing this weekend as well!!! Sheesh!!!
Hillary got 90,000 more votes in Texas than Obama did.
...and THAT's the TRUTH.
I was st SD12 on Saturday as a delegate for Obama.  I met an elderly man there who was past due for one of his medications because the conventions went longer than anyone planned.  He told me, "But I'm not leaving.  I haven't come this far to turn back now."  It was his first convention ever, and he believes in Obama so much that he was going to stay the course, no matter what.  That passionate support is what will win the day for Obama, no these dirty tricks being mentioned.  I saw none of that at SD12.  Only a spirit of cooperation and friendliness from ALL of the delegates.
This is the way some of our foot soldiers has to deal with the negative, low blow, opposition.  If you dont't want it then don't give it. That is all that had been coming from Senator Clinton's forces all throughout this election process. You can't fight all battles the same way and expect to win.
Being from Texas I can criticize the way we vote here. The popular vote should rule.  Hillary won it, she should get the delegates.  All of these caucus' that are being held are bologna.  All that proves is that the younger people can get there to vote and the rest of the people have to work.  Don't give up on the states that have yet to vote.  They deserve a chance to vote.  The best way to do the primaries would be to have ALL of the states VOTE on the same day.  No caucus'.  The candidates could still debate, make appearances, etc.  Yes, they would ignore the small states with few delegates, they do that now.  Think of the money and time and effort saved.  A candidate would be chosen and we could move on to the general election with lots of time for the two parties to make their case.

It is just wrong to split the delegates.  Yes, I'm a Hillary supporter but I could live with Obama.  Just use some common sense and not make this so arcane it takes an oracle to figure it all out.
Hillary won the popular vote.
obama won the caucus.
more people voted in the primary than in the caucus.
you had to vote in the primary to be allowed to caucus, but caucusing was optional.
they both won.

those are the facts.
Believe it or not, with the reading I do, I am confused about what consitutes a win in TX?  Clinton won primary, Obama won Caucus, so is it whoever ends up with the most delegates from the combination of the prim and caus?  Is that who we call the winner?
Or did they each win 1 for clinton, 1 for obama?
Ain't it something than Hillary won the California primary, but McCain trails Obama by more than he does Hillary?
Doesn't Hillary have to run the table, so to speak, in the remaining primaries to make a dent in Obama's lead in delegates and popular vote? Doesn't she have to win by something like 20 to 30 points? Currently she holds an almost 20 point lead in PA. If she can't hold onto this, why can't she? Obama has won quite a few of his states by 20 to 30 or more points. If he can close this PA number within a few weeks, doesn't this show that he could do the same in the fall against McCain? Seems like Hillary needs to win by very large margins in these upcoming states if she has any hope of convincing the Superdelegates to move over to her side. We can see here in Texas that winning by just single digits is not nearly enough in this nominating process.
I have been following these delegates race for a while; i sense the Obama campaign is ahead of the curve when it comes to delegate count.

Majority of the news organization are way behind including the associated press.

Let us give credit to whom it is due, Obama has ran a great campaign. He is well organized and his people know the intricacy of Democratic Party.

Without much ado, i'll be more comfortable to have him run the white house compare to Clinton or McCain.
Senator Obama WINS TEXAS ! Fantastic. A huge state, a huge win. Congratulations to the Obama campaign and the hard work of the supporters on the big win..and the support of the super delegates is very nice as well. Join the campaign. www.BarackObama.com
I am a lifelong Democrat and huge Clinton supporter. That said, I will NEVER vote for Hillary Clinton after this Bosnia/Sniper Fire "misstatement." We are in a billion dollar a week war because a president "misrepresented" a threat of WMDs.  I do not want another president who lies and exaggerates threats.  I also do not want Howard Wolfson ANYWHERE in the white house. He is another Karl Rove. I am so disappointed that the Clintons turned into Republicans during this campaign.

People always say they want someone different than the normal, political BS.  Obama is different. I also recommend everyone watch Verdict with Dan Abrams. His "On Their Trail" segment is delightful.
ALL Democrats will have to work together - this isn't a sports event: it's a campaign AMONGST 2 of OUR candidates.  It's disappointing both HRC and Obama camps misbehaved or were pushy. During our New York primary BOTH HRC and Obama people were phone banking, side by side in a civilized fashion.  The women who heads up the DNC in our area was an HRC fan, I was phoning for Obama. She was supremely professional.  We need to act more civilized: this has nothing to do with us personally and EVERYTHING to do with the USA.  So PLEASE STOP FIGHTING because we lose credibility!
In November, turnout will be more important than the number of voters who passively support one candidate or another.  The number of people who actually vote is always much smaller than the total number of potential voters.  Caucuses measure commitment and organization better than primaries do.  Committed, organized campaigners turn out the vote for their candidate.
It is downright laughable that Clinton supporters continue to squawk about the caucus rules that apply in Texas and elsewhere.  You can bet that had Senator Clinton held onto her inevitability mantel, she and her insiders wouldn't have said a peep.  In fact, they were perfectly happy to be stacking the Super Delegate deck in the run up to her coronation.  Now that she is losing to Obama her team complains that caucuses are not fair and that super delegates should stay put because we must hear from the people.  Isn't this the same campaign that thought this would be all over on Super Tuesday and was queuing up Supers behind her as early as last fall?  Everyone, even Clinton supporters, should be grateful to Obama's outstanding campaign which revealed to Dems everywhere how the party and the Clintons set up the game.
Tim Rogers in golden, co. is correct about HRC winning the popular vote in texas because large numbers of republican voters crossed over, figuring McCain could more easily beat hillary. The movement may have only been loosly organized, but it was in place. Wonder how she'll spin this one?
It is laughable for anyone to suggest that the Obama campaign is pushy. The Clintons try to roll over everyone with their self-indulgency and lies.Obama is QIUITE reserved, mild, and full of integrity than Hillary. My daughter was part of the TX caucus programs, and said that the Clinton supporters were trying to change rules, push people to the incorrect area, etc. But no one should be surprise. How about the STORIES about Bosnia, peace in Ireland, Chelsea on 911, NAFTA lies, etc. Nothing isnew here....Obama wins TEXAS.
Hillary did not win the popular vote in Texas, there is proof of Rush Limbaugh dittos crossing over to vote for her to make it look like she won and to keep her in the race. Her pop vote win does not cover the amount of dittohead crossovers. Republicans screwing the democrats again. Why am I not surprised. I am waiting for the Big Headline "Obama won Texas"
#1  The dem committees for MI and FL disenfranchised the voters, NOT the candidates! You should start there when it comes to loosing your venom.

#2  This kills me--"I will never vote for Hillary if she becomes the nominee" or "I will be voting for McCain if Obama is the nominee"

Doesn't it baffle anyone else that these "democrats" are willing to slit their own throats out of spite?!
Willing to throw the party under the bus?  To all of them, I say--you better speak up when your friends and coworkers are complaining about another republican term.  You better shout loud and proud that you did your democratic duty and cast a SPITE vote for McCain!  Don't hide now, hero.  It will be because of you.
I am a democrat, however, if "Oh no, Mr.OOObama" gets the nomination, then I will be voting for McCain. The OOObama's (inc spouse e poo Michelle) are totally un American!  GOD BLESS THE USA--Hillary all the way!!
Congratulations Sen Obama's supporters in Texas.

People power is spreading all over the USA.
YES WE CAN !

But Hillary's campaign added to this that it would not matter since Texas was a 'red' states. When they said only 'big' states matter, they meant 'big BLUE' states ... like the State of Denial Clinton won overwhelmingly in a land slide.
To the Obama and Clinton supporters.  The train of thought that if your candidate does not get the nomination you are going switch to the Republican party is ludicrous.  This election is about the Supreme Court and the majority in both houses.  Do you want to continue to see US casualities in IRAQ? I don't want to think about if two more ultra conservatives are put on the Supreme Court.  It just doesn't matter as long as there is a Democrat in the White House.
On a side note, if Al Gore had put his hat in the ring, we wouldn't have even needed primaries.
Obama is the real deal. The knockout punch is coming and I'm recording her speech when she has to support Obama...a great day indeed.
Any democrat who would vote republican after the last 7 years, just because their candidate lost is either crazy or really doesn't love this country.

With all the corruption & abuses of the gop, those are the only possible explanations.

We are learning more everyday how the gop used the patriot act to attack democrat governors. How they are making billions on no bid contracts. How they push policies that line the pockets of big oil. How they are setting up the war so that it will not end no matter what the cost.

Passion is great, stupid is just stupid.
