Reid backs July 1 superdelegate deadline

Posted: Tuesday, April 01, 2008 4:19 PM by Mark Murray

From NBC's Ken Strickland
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid says he supports DNC Chairman Howard Dean's plan to have super delegates resolve the Democratic nomination battle by July 1, 2008.

In the usual off-camera scrum with reporters that follows his Tuesday news conference, he was asked...

"Do you support [Howard Dean's] proposal to have superdelegates vote by July first or express their preference by July first," the reporter asked.

Reid said, "Either that or before."

Yeah, that will give the nominee almost an extra two months to set up for the General Election.

Vote for your economic best interests.

Vote Democratic in 2008.
You and me both Harry Reid.

Hey Pat in Boston...I'll meet up with you for the Barack inauguration, that would be a great day.

Obama 08
First Read, do you think you could take a moment to add Puerto Rico to the msnbc political calendar?  You have Guam listed.
Bravo!  That'll give Hill time to get back home to New York and watch the convention on TV.
Clinton supporter/ super toeing the company line:

"If I had to make a prediction right now, I'd say Barack Obama is going to be the next president," he said just after 18:00. "I will be stunned if he's not the next president of the United States."

Earlier in the interview, he was asked about the race going all the way to the convention.

"If I do the party line, I'm supposed to say -- and maybe I'll say just so if anybody hears it they can say well, 'Cleaver did the party line before he told the truth,' -- we believe that a contest going all the way to the convention is good for America," he said. In fact, he continued, it would be the "tragedy of tragedies."
We need to get this contest out of our house, and out into the open with the GOP. I'm so excited to see it happen. The dems are coming with a powerhouse candidate. Our David, against their Goliath.

Go Barack, sling your knowledge at McCain, and watch him fall.
Reid can support it all he wants, but he has no power to determine anything.
The country with the lowest teen age pregnancy rate is Holland. Their solution is to teach 'age appropriate' sex ed all through school as well as to distribute condoms at the high school level.

America can be as smart as Holland about this, or we can be as dumb as the Bush "middle ages mentality" about this.  Abstinence only is not working.

Age appropriate Sex Ed cuts down on teenage pregancy and abortion, it's time to move back into the 21st century.

Vote Democratic in 2008
All the DNC would need to do to end this race is demand Hillary release her 2000 thru 2006 tax returns.
Super-delegates only have to vote at the convention. They can ignore Pelosi, Reid, or any of the other idiot Democrats that want them to vote early.
Superdelegates resolve the nomination?  How about the voters?
"The Truth Hurts,"
Whoever you are, I appreciate the response yesterday in regards to my comment about Hillary Clinton not being fully vetted.    However, your response had no facts in it, just the typical ALL CAPS.  So, again I'll say it.  Just because you, Hillary, Bill, Mark Penn, and Howard Wolfson say she's been fully vetted doesn't mean that it's true.  We've unfortunately found that out the past 2 months.  Her claims about Bosnia that she's been making for 3 months are not misspeaking.  They're lies.  Yes, lies.  When you repeat the same thing for 3 months, it’s not misspeaking.

Because you believe strongly in your position, precisely what are the 3 things that Hillary Clinton has accomplished in domestic policy and foreign policy that give her the vaunted experience she claims she has?  And please don't respond by saying "well, what has Obama done."  HIllary Clinton is the one running on this deep background of experience; other than being a woman, her entire campaign is built around the experience theme.  I've moved to support Obama in part because she has been so arrogant in her resume buffing.  If somebody walked into my office to interview and I later found out that at least one of the 3 biggest things they had claimed was a lie, I MOST CERTAINLY would not hire him or her.  I suspect you would do the same.

Hillary Rodham Clinton must stay in this campaign through the convention where she will be the nominee of the Dem party. Otherwise, it's President McCain. I will vote for McCain if Hillary is not the nominee. I simply do not like or trust Barack Hussein Obama.

No amount of 24/7 promotion of Obama on the MSNBC-Obama network will ever change the fact that Barack Hussein Obama is UNELECTABLE.

**VOTE SMART!! VOTE HILLARY!!**
when 9 months will pass then the world will realize why hillary became the spoiler, too much cuddling and tear wiping led to: POP GOES THE WHEEZLE, NO DOUBT YOU COULD SEE THE SYMPTOMS EARLY ON IN NEW HAMPSHIRE.

VEENA C.
reid, dean, you are blind mcgoo. if obama would have lost 11 primaries in a row and 14 out of 15 including texas, you would have taken obama's name off the ballots in the upcoming states, and been travelling the world with hillary. face it your afraid of the big,bad wolfson, and those scary clintons. dems should start thinking about a new senate leader, and a new dnc chairman, and not fast eddie rendell.
It doesn't matter, Obama won't win Miss in November...

******************BEFORE************************
The American Public deserves to know this before the Convention. We should not have to wait until then to know who our Nominee is and prepare for the General. Once all the primaries are over, there is no need to delay. McCain already has a head start, Let's GO!!

OBAMA '08 - Yes WE Can!
http://twocanpete.blogspot.com/
Somebody call HRC HQ there's an attack on her sizeable rear flank!
Yay Harry! I'm so sick of all these people saying the long race isn't hurting the Democrats, that it just helps to season the candidates and make them stronger for November. At least the Clintons have pulled back just a little - I think - it might just not be getting coverage - but I haven't heard any racial innuendo, religious innuendo, McCain praise - lately!
Of course the Clinton attacks on Obama have hurt him. The irony that Clinton didn't expect was that she would hurt herself while she was at it.
Let this race be over!
No more talk about Florida and Michigan! Seat those delegates in a fair way and let them vote in November. It's pretty clear to anyone who's watched the campaign from the beginning that if Clinton had been ahead, as Obama is, she would not have argued as feverishly as she has, to have Florida and Michigan re-vote. Plus, if they were to have a re-vote, shouldn't the names of all the candidates who were in the race at the time of the first vote, be on the ballot in a re-vote?
No more talk about popular vote! The Democratic rules give the nomination to the winner of the delegate count. Joe Scarborough wouldn't let Rachel Maddow talk last night on Race for the White House (show some manners Joe), when she tried to say that if this were a Republican race, Obama would be the chosen nominee by now on the basis of the number of states he has won. The Democratic rules are that the candidate with the most delegates is the winner. If Clinton were to leave gracefully, instead of behaving like a dog with a bone, Obama would be more than able in short order to win the 2024 delegates required to be the nominee. It's not as though he wouldn't be able to achieve that goal.
It's tiresome listening to Clinton supporters, many of whom I like(d) and respect(ed), conjuring up new ways daily, as the race drags on, to argue that Clinton should stay in the race - is a viable candidate - can win the nomination legitimately. It's interesting how you have powerful Democratic political players, rich politicos, and working class folk - strange bedfellows - not unlike the Republican power elite and religious right - supporting Clinton's continually changing platform.
Will the superdelegates please step forward and be counted!!!
Hillary's Finished!

Take a look at http://jumpinoffthecliff.tripod.com

Senator Clinton, for the good of the party, we ask that you to stop the petty politics, put your campaign on hold and allow Barack Obama, and therefore the Democratic party, to concentrate...

I'd be happy with June 1st, or whenever PR votes... not that PR will get to vote in the GE anyway.  And why is that?  How come they can vote (for the first time) in the Primary, but not the General?

What a shame all Republicans were disenfranchised after McCain was nominated.   Every single state that came after McCain was nominated didn't get to have their votes count for anything.

IF THE SUPERDELEGATES WERE NOT CHICKEN, THEY COULD ANNOUNCE THEIR CHOICE NOW --- AND SAVE THE DEM PARTY A LOT OF GRIEF --- OBAMA WILL WIN THE NOMINATION.

HILLARY'S 'FIGHTING ON' IS JUST AN EXERCISE IN HER SELF-INDULGENCE AND TO RAISE MONEY TO MISUSE.
---------------------------------------------------
July 1? Mark my words, the primary ends Thursday, May 8th. The NC primary is on the 6th, which Obama will win handily. That victory will offset whatever modest dent in Obama's delegate lead Hillary makes in PA (if any), and effectively puts to rest her "large state" argument (especially since Obama has finally been declared the winner in Texas). Two days later - on the 8th - Clinton will concede, heading off an embarrassing landslide of superdelegates to her rival.

Then, finally, we can move on to the really important thing, which is ensuring that we don't see a continuation of the Bush regime in the person of John "100 years in Iraq" McHypocrite.
Aren't the Democrats tired of Howard Dean telling them when they can vote, and when they can't vote?
Hey Howard, when should the Democrats in Michigan and Florida vote?
Chuck Todd was one of the first experts to point out that Clinton would not get the most pledged delegates, yet he thinks she's right to stay in the race.

I have to call this as I see it. It's in Todd's best interests for the race to continue, because it's keeping him on TV. He's like Mel Kiper (the NFL draft) and Joe Lunardi (Bracketology) in that he specializes in a specific event with a limited run.

Chuck, you do great work. Take a well-deserved vacation and come back in time for the general.
There are two things that will exhist forever. It is Clinton's and coachroaches. I don't think they will ever quit. Let's just hope they will resign before they destroy the Democratic party.

Just in time for the summer riot season.
July 1,--- How about June.

Obama '08
July 1 will do.....

Is there ANY DOUBT that Barack Obama will be the nominee ?

Is ther ANY DOUBT that Crooked Hillary Wiil LOSE
So, Obama is backing off his McCain 100 year war accusation.  another lie he is squirming over.
Obama is a demi-god.
wondering,,,McCain got the amount of delegates needed to be the nominee.  If either of the others had reached theirs they would have gotten it.  Republicans don't have Super Delegates.  You should know the history of why the dems do by now.  In a nut shell its to insure the "right" person gets the nomination after the losers the "people" voted for. The party didn't want that to happen again.   Now, that tells you something about the party doesn't it.
Pelozi has changed her stand on how the Supers should vote.
So Obama supporters have resorted to mocking Senator Clinton's appearance (Yes I am talking about the rear end comment).  If Obama is winning, he should pack it up and wait for the convention.  Or... He could start running ads against McCain and ignorning Hillary.  With that massive 1% vote lead, I would be relaxing if I were him.
So now after over 14 months of sitting on his ass as the Majortiy leader of the house, who totally controls every single bill and its ability to ever make its way to the floor of the house, and not doing a dam thing to stop the Bush administration from continuing to break the law and continue this war, Harry has something to say.

You spineless SOB, you need to keep your mouth shut just like your non-leading freind in the Senate, Nancy Pelosi.  Both of you were put into the positions that you're in to be able to control what goes on in the House and the Senate and to show some back bone and leadership.

In November of 2006, people in this country voted to put certain people into office and voted others out and allowed the Democrats to be in control of the House and the Senate for a reason.

It sure wasn't so that 14 or 15 months later we could all still be dealing with this war exactly the way we were 14 or 15 months ago.  You, Reid, and Pelosi were given a mandate to end this war and instead you've done nothing but make excuses.  And you call yourselves leaders, I don't think so.

Both Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi are shameful individuals and both should be put on the first train out of Washington to never return.
I agree with balthus, Raleigh, NC Hillary will be out of the race in May. Also partly because her campaign can't keep up with the money that Obama supporters are donating. I am one of those Obama supporters. I am a single mother and I would rather give Obama $25 every week than see Hillary be the nominee.
How can anyone vote for Obama or Hillary Clinton??? One of them is not an African American but a Philliapina American. Obama never was born in Africa so he can not be a African American. We must quit incorect labeling People. Both of them do not support the US Constitution ea The second Amendmend. If you dont support all of the Constitution then you should actualy be band from running for any Puplic Office. Both of them are antigun People to the Core Extreme. Obama is even wors the Hillary in that he wants to dismantel the Thai program of the ATF.
America wake up and see these 2 Traitors for what they are
Another Clinton scandal!!!!  Below is a portion from an article on NorthStar Writers Group website.

The now-retired general counsel and chief of staff of the House Judiciary Committee, who supervised Hillary when she worked on the Watergate investigation, says Hillary’s history of lies and unethical behavior goes back farther – and goes much deeper – than anyone realizes.

The actions of Hillary and her cohorts went directly against the judgment of top Democrats, up to and including then-House Majority Leader Tip O’Neill, that Nixon clearly had the right to counsel. Zeifman says that Hillary, along with Marshall, Nussbaum and Doar, was determined to gain enough votes on the Judiciary Committee to change House rules and deny counsel to Nixon. And in order to pull this off, Zeifman says Hillary wrote a fraudulent legal brief, and confiscated public documents to hide her deception.
The reason Billary is not out after the Obama wins are the Clinton supporters, the Enronites.  They are threatening to stop their funding of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC).
Hillary, your tax returns please. What are you afraid of? This seems pretty basic. If you're afraid of releasing your tax returns and can't keep your campaign's bills paid...remind me why you're still a candidate?
I'm looking forward to seeing Billary losing by a landslide.  She has told so many lies, one of them is bound to catch up with her much sooner than later.
A lot of politicians had Tony Resko raise big bucks for their political campaigns, and his trial is showing they all "owed him favors" which he "did collect". Resko was Obamas #1 contributor, and we are to believe as Resko's "next door neighbor" that received "sweetheart real estate favors" was never asked for inside special favors from Obama.  Give me a break.  You have to be either "blind" or "very naive" to think otherwise. Barry is a wolf in sheep's clothing. Hillary a thief. McCain a nut half cracked.  Good luck U.S.A.  We are going to need it.
Goodness. On both side of the individual, Obama and Hillary. Are their supporters demonstrating a regret free thoughts and behaviors in their challenging the opposite. If not they are hurting the party not Hillary nor Obama. The surrogates / supporters and the politicians need to "chill it"  and let the process run it course to completion. Others people who have not yet voted until later. Their vote need to be counted like Hillary say, not denied and later cannot re-vote like what happen to Michigan and Florida!! DNC and Howard Dean have not gain my respect because of their stupidity in light of Michign and Florida in light also how close the race is between Obama and Hillary.

Steven Penney, DuPOnt, Washington
All this talk of disfranchisement is one reason Why this Nation never gets 80% of the Voters out, Many say "WHY VOTE"  Since they also have a good Point, as the Electorial College cals the final shots, (remember Gore beat Bush in the populariy contest and  still Bush became President?? Until we truly have one man one Vote, America's Elections will the farce they  are!
Today Lee Hamilton(Super delegate from Indiana) endorsed Barack.  His support will neutralize Evan Byah's support for Hillary.  When you lose your credibility, you have nothing. Hillary will lose no matter what schemes and tactics she attempts.
This democrat is tired of all the back stabbing politics. To start with there should be one primary for all states. That primary should be winner takes all with no questions asked. Campaign bashing gets us no where fast. Get rid of Dean and clean up your act Democrats. You can bet your backsides I will be watching my local elections a lot closer and be a participant campaigning against all the Clinton Backers in this race. Also I will be watching the false preachers regarding religion. A man or woman's color or culture does not bother me to the least. It is what is in their hearts that matter and whether or not they can be truthful in all they give the public. Hot headed people with money? That money is the Root Of All Evil. Wake up people, we have great people in all religions, cultures and races. Obama knows first hand why retirees as my self are suffering financialy and why we as steel workers lost so many jobs to over seas steel makers. When we lost jobs and benefits there was a big dominoe effect all due to NAFTA which Clinton signed into law and his wife supported. Even though Hilliary was First Lady she had no say in what took place and has no business saying she did anything the administration took on. The only thing she was guilty of is being married to a playboy that made another woman rich. She is not Presidential Material and twisting her stories for the sake of Power and More Riches. Enough is Enough. Obama will be President of The Great United States and a Change for the best for Working America.
