Ickes pushing Wright with supers

From NBC's Domenico Montanaro
Talking Points Memo reports top Clinton aide Harold Ickes admitted pushing the Rev. Jeremiah Wright issue with superdelegates:

"Look what the Republicans did to a genuine war hero," Ickes said, in a reference to John Kerry.

"Super delegates have to take into account the strengths and weakness of both candidates and decide who would make the strongest candidate against what will undoubtedly be ferocious Republican attacks," Ickes continued. "I've had super delegates tell me that the Wright issue is a real issue for them."

In a reference to Wright's controversial views, Ickes continued: "Nobody thinks that Barack Obama harbors those thoughts. But that's not the issue. The issue is what Republicans [will do with them]...I think they're going to give him a very tough time."

Asked whether he was specifically bringing up Wright to super-delegates, Ickes said: "I've said what I've said...I tell people that they need to look at what they think Republicans may use against him. Wright comes up in the conversations."

This guy will take the Dems all down with him.
He's "had super delegates tell him they think the Wright issue is a big issue."  Let me guess: the two super delegates who told him that are named...
Bill Clinton
Hillary Clinton
Dear Clintonites:

Due to “you’re being DUPED” by Hillary and her statements, the flip-flop on NAFTA, the flip-flop on the Michigan/ Florida Re-vote, the flip-flop on the Iraq war, and her basic negative campaigning practices: then please listen with rapt interest to following:

WARNING: THIS MAY BE YOUR LAST CHANCE “TO CURE  YOURSELF” OF THE DREADFUL DISEASE CALLED: "CLINTONITIS-LARENGITIS!"

If you believe that you have been brainwashed, by the “Clintonista  Brainwashing Machine,” and that you have been  inadvertently infected with "CLINTONITIS-LARENGITIS."   Quick, call for a quarantine procedure specialist and get this plague under control!

You can tell if you have "CLINTONITIS-LARENGITIS" from the following telltale symptoms.
Every time you open your mouth, the following occurs: inaccuracies, inattention to detail, and flat out un-truths; not to mention distortions, disruptions, and miss-communications, temper-tantrums, and inconsiderate language communication.

You must seek the CURE IMMEDIATELY in order to avoid further BRAIN-ROT!

YOU MUST SAY THE FOLLOWING TEN TIMES TO AVOID "CLINTONITIS-LARENGITIS:"

1. Obama is the one, the only one, who has been honest about his feelings and opinions concerning Rev. Wright: This inspires trust!

2. Obama is dedicated to his loved ones/family: This inspires trust!!

3. Obama is the one: who has spent his life serving others rather than trying to get rich: This inspires trust !

4. The rich and powerful are few: but they will try to destroy Obama because of his stance on special interest: This inspires trust!

5. Obama is loyal to his family, God, and Country: This inspires trust!

6.  Obama is the one who gave an historic speech that challenged us to see beyond the color of ones skin: This inspires trust!

Good, then this will make sense to you now:
Clinton has failed to INSPIRE --anything!
If Ickes and the Clintons really think Hillary's been vetted by the Republicans, and that there wouldn't be a huge ad campaigns bringing back the scandals of the Clinton Whitehouse, making a fool of Hillary for her false resume on the SCHIP program, Bosnia, Ireland, etc., they're dreaming. If they really think the superdelegates can't envision that scenario, they're short-changing the superdelegates, and grossly underestimating their intelligence.
Once again Hillary is up to no good. How many times do you beat a dead horse?  Obama survived the Wright flap but Hillary won't survive the Bosnia Lie.

In Fact, she's done: http://jumpinoffthecliff.tripod.com
ICKY ICKES.

Hillary, you can't choose your family, but you can choose your aides, surrogates, and husbands.

ICKY ICKES.
My God!!!! Just who does anyone in the know - which certainly includes the Supers - belives that the Republicans won't have SO MUCH more to skewre Hillary with! This woman has a laundrey list of questionable issues that makes Republican strategist foam at the mouth.

Look at the recent polls as to who they would rather run against. This one is sad on the surface for the issue old Harold is pushing, and a bit racist - but it's even funnier for it's lack of validity in it's substance. It's like Hillary making herself the "commander in chief" candidate vs. McCain!
Ickes is mistaken. There is nothing geniune about John Kerry.
Dear Senator Clinton,

I'll take Jeremiah Wright over the following...

Troopergate
Travelgate
Filegate
Monica Lewinsky
Juanita Broaddrick
Kathleen Willey
Paula Jones
Gennifer Flowers

"What Your Definition Of 'Is' Is"

...not to mention...

"Opposing" Iraq when you voted for the President's Authorization For Use Of Military Force

...and...

"Opposing" NAFTA when your husband signed the agreement.
THE CLINTONS BRINGING UP THE FEAR CARD AGAIN.LET SEE WHAT THE REPUBLICAN WILL DO WITH HILLARYS EAR MARKS,HILLARY TIES TO EVERY ONE ON WALL STREET,THE PEOPLE AND COUNTRIES WHO GAVE MONEY TO CLINTON FOUNDATION, THE CLINTON LIBRARY, BILLS BUSINESS DEALING SINCE HE LEFT OFFICE,WHO HAS BILL BEEN CHUMS WITH....
Ickes really needs to shut the flock up.  And besides that, his "I tell people that they need to look at what they think Republicans may use against him"  totally negates Bill Clinton's "If you don't want to get beat up, stay out of politics."

Ickes, or anyone else in the Clinton camp, should not be telling the super delegates what to do, or how to think.  I would hope the super delegates are not so mindless that they need someone to dictate to them how to think and how to vote.  I suspect, but I could be wrong, that they're going to pay as much attention to  his advice as Pelosi paid attention to that threatening letter.
This is exactly why I believe it was the clinton's and maggie williams that search long and hard for the few sermons, in hopes destroying Obama through association.  Not going to work.  I'm a delegate and I will continue my pledge thru Denver if I must.

I will continue to stand with Obama.
THE CLINTONS BRINGING UP THE FEAR CARD AGAIN. LET SEE WHAT THE REPUBLICAN WILL DO WITH HILLARYS EAR MARKS,HILLARY TIES TO EVERY ONE ON WALL STREET,THE PEOPLE AND COUNTRIES WHO GAVE MONEY TO CLINTON FOUNDATION, THE CLINTON LIBRARY, BILLS BUSINESS DEALING SINCE HE LEFT OFFICE,WHO HAS BILL BEEN CHUMS WITH....
"Nobody thinks that Barack Obama harbors those thoughts. But that's not the issue. The issue is what Republicans [will do with them]...

The man is absolutely right. If they can turn Kerry into a coward...what will they do to Obama?
I wonder now if the Wright issue is a big issue with the super delegates afterall.

I was told not too long ago by a political big-wig in the Democratic Party who works in my office that 75% of outstanding super delegates were leaning towards Hillary Clinton because of this issue.

I didn't give it much thought, but now I'm wondering.

(This man has a pretty substantial network - he was able to secure a Democratic Convention ticket in Boston for me in 2004 on a moment's notice - so he's hearing "stuff").

Hmmm.
News Flash: An overwhelming majority of registered Republicans polled said they had planned to support the Republican nominee for President.

What's the argument?  Republicans like the Clintons?  The history of scandal, deceit and division that is synonymous with the Clinton is somehow better baggage in the general?
Mr. Ickes, why do you think the Repulicans want Clinton to run for president? It's because they have a lot of stuff on Hillary. What? Thanks for asking. 1. How about Bill Clinton pardoning the 4 Puerto Rican terrorists right before Hillary's run for Senate in New York? Could it be that there are one and one half million Puerto Ricans in New York? 2. How about Guistra and the one and one half million Clinton received for promoting his company even though the New York Times said it was a threat to National Security. 3. How about the Chinese expionage at our nuclear labs that Bill claimed was not his responsiblity? Maybe all the cash he got in 96 from the Chinese nationals who are connected to Chinese agents was just a big mistake and had no effect on his decions. After all, a president would not sell out his country for campaign contributions, would He? 4. How about the draft that Clinton dodged during Viet Nam?5. How about the people who stayed in the Lincoln bedroom for campaign money. Come on Ickes, we have so much on Hillary, the Republicans are foaming at the mouth to get her in so they can cream her!
But, Ickes can't see, and/or fail to realize what the Pubs can bring up on Clinton???  She has a heckuva lot more "stuff" that they can bring up on her.  Also, naturally the Pubs would want Sen. Clinton as the nominee because they know they can slaughter her in the elections.  They can try to spin this mess to the SD's if they want, but the SD's are not stupid, and neither are we.
So, the Democrats should act like the Republicans, eh, Mr. Ickes? And act like them at their Karl Rove worst, at that.
So then, Mr. Ickes, why should I be a Democrat?
According to the polls, people care more about Hillary repeatedly lying about her "war experience" then they care about Barack Obama associating with someone who says things a majority of us do not agree with.

The difference is that Hillary, out of her own mouth, told a lie.  Barack Obama never said anything remotely racist or unpatriotic along the same lines as Reverend Wright.  Obama took charge of the race issue.  Hillary is lying against saying she "misspoke" when she has told that tale on multiple occasions.

In 2004, millions of people did not agree with George Bush, but compared to John Kerry, Bush appeared to be the more honest candidate that actually stood for something.  You may not agree with Senator Obama for not throwing Reverend Wright under a bus, but at least he has taken a strong position on this issue.  Hillary Clinton just continues to inflate her experiences as a first lady and point out the weaknesses in others since she doesn't have any real strengths of her own.
hillary's negatives are like sitting ducks, all lined up and ready for picking by the republicans should she get the nomination, as opposed to one for sen. obama.  shall i go down that route?

true to form, clinton's surrogates are just like her - throw the kitchen sink, throw mud and hope it will stick, scare tactics, and on and on and on.
Oh, I see.  Yeah Clinton is the best choice because the republicans are going to go after Obama.
Uh, does Ickes realize that he works for someone whose baggage has baggage? The GOP has been assembling truckloads of oppo research on the Clintons. The ugliness of the 90s, with some new elements sure to make Snipergate look like a child's birthday party, will all come out. Get real
Of course Wright comes up in the conversations, you keep bringing him up.

It's nice to know that you believe that Obama is not Wright.

Vote Democratic in 2008
Harold Ickes was on the credentials committee and voted for stripping all of the Florida and Michigan delegates. The Clintons never mention that when scapegoating the Obama campaign. Therefore, it's no surprise then that he, the top Clintonista, would stoop to using the Wright smear when arm-twisting the supers.
Ikes reminds me of Iago:  Let me wisper in your ear about that minister and let's make this a real issue.........
Hurry November!!!
Is Ickes related to either Carl Rove or Dick Cheney?  They say bad luck comes in threes.  Oh, and I hope Ickes asked the superdelegates what fun they thought the Republicans would have with Hillary's extensive "experience."  John McCain, war hero, vs. Hillary Clinton, liar.

Maggie from Maine

They will bring up Hillary sniper fire lies.
And does Mr Ickes realize what a hay day they'll have with Hillary's "bravery" on the tarmac in Tuzla? And that's not 'guilt by association', that's the LIES from HER mouth.
Once again, HRC and her operatives will say and do anything to get HRC back into the White House.
How sad this is. Well, who is race baiting now? Someone needs to remind the Supers about Ferraro as well.
Mr. Ickes - Monica Lewinsky is coming up again now, too.  And what could the Republicans use against the Clintons...health care debacle, impeachment, White House travel office, selling the Lincoln bedroom and pardons, Whitewater, Hsu, making off with White House property, flip flopping on Iraq, etc., etc., etc.  Many women I know would never vote for Hillary.  They feel her ambition overruled her self-respect in staying in her dysfunctional marriage.  To Chelsea who says "it's none of your business"  - I remember a line from the movie, The American Preident - that says, with all due respect, the American people have a way of deciding what is or is not their business.

Out of Rev. Wright's 30-year career of preaching, the clips shown on TV are miniscule.  If he preached this week after week after week, there would be evidence of it.  Preachers are sometimes provocative.  But Obama is not his preacher.  It makes sense to me that he would not distance himself from the person who brought him to Christ in the first place.  And no, he was not a Muslim before he became a Christian.  He just didn't have a religious upbringing.
Mr. Ickes I can assure you the Republicans already have ads ready for Hillary as well.

There's Hillary talking against NAFTA, but her "First Lady" schedule shows differently. People in attendance to the Hillary's meeting have said she convinced them to vote for it. Without Hillary's pro-NAFTA speech, NAFTA never would have passed.

Hillary's Bosnia sniper fire lies have turned an entire region of the world against us. Hillary said she was "sleep deprived" for 3 months so she had her facts straight. How many 3am ads will the Republicans get out of this one?

There's Hillary talking about the economy in March, but having campaign debts dating back to October of 2007. Hillary's campaign refused to answer phone calls and certified mail from the companies she owed. Oops, these calls were during the day.  Maybe, Hillary can only answer the call at certain times of the day.
For the record, the Obama camp is pushing the race issue, you know, for sure!.......?
FUNNY HOW ICKES AND OTHERS WENT DIGGING AND HOPING TO FIND ON VIDEO OBAMA SITTING IN CHURCH LISTENING TO HIS REV PREACH HATE(SUSPECT)ONLY TO END UP WITH ACTUAL PROOF THAT CLINTON;ON VIDEO WILL LOOK RIGHT IN ANY CAMERA AND LIE TO SAVE FACE...JUST SO SHE CAN SAY SHE IS MORE EXPERIENCED THAN OBAMA.....WHAT REV WRIGHT HAS BEEN QUOTED AS SAYING HAS BEEN SAID BY AN AMBASSADOR FOR THE U.S. NOW THE REMARKS THA BILL MAKES ARE EXCUSED AND SHE SLEEPS WITH(OR NOT) THIS GUY FOR AT LEAST 28YRS...C'MON CHRIS LETS SET THIS CONTEST STRAIGHT ONCE AND FOR ALL
Remember those pair of jeans you once got some dirt and grass stain on the knees and no matter how many times you scrubbed or washed them you couldn't get out all the dirt/grass stain because it had become embedded in the fibers of the jeans? Now you understand Ickes and the Clinton campaign. No matter how much you try and scrub or wash the dirt from it nothing works because it is embedded in the very fibers of the Hillary staffers and her campaign.
Ickes - I knew they were going to bring in the race card again. They have to. It isn't Hillary or old Ickes that is concerned about Wright - it is those mean old Republicans.

Mr. Ickes, if you are so concerned about what issues the Republicans will attack, what about the Clintons tax filings since 2000?  Hillary should be releasing their taxes within two weeks and what will be in them? As a prelim to that date, however, she might want to talk about the Billary association with and investment in the Yucaipa Companies. I guess they (Bill & Hill) have made somewhere in the vicinity of  $20 million from the association. Oh, and one of their investments is in a Brazilian company called Brenco which was recently raided and found 133 workers enduring hunger, cold, overcrowding, rats and cockroaches. The source for this is Barrons, March 31, 2008.

Pennsylvania (and Ohio and New York) - this is the woman that is going to bring back the jobs that her and Bill moved out through NAFTA. The jobs, of course, will be in Brazil, but that is a short commute. You won't have to worry about your healthcare though - that's minor. Food, cleanliness and housing will be your major concern.

All you Clintonistas, wait until you see the magnitude of their income and wealth. And how it was made. Then you can tell me the Clintons really give a darn about any American worker.
It is certainly fair to consider what the Republicans are going to be able to use to attack the Democratic nominee, but Ickes and the Clinton camp are dead wrong on who that favors.

It basically comes down to Rev. Wright and, to a lesser extent, Rezko vs. Marc Rich and the others in pardongate, travel office-gate, FBI file-gate, Clinton library donors, Bosnia sniper lie, Peter F. Paul and much, much more depending on which Clinton baggage has the most stink on it.

By getting more people to watch Senator Obama's speech about race as well as contrasting things that have been said by some of the pastors supporting McCain, it won't be that hard to fight the Rev. Wright stuff.  Especially the fact that the pastor at Clinton's church recently defended Wright, as did Mike Huckabee.

However, Clinton will not be able to make the Bosnia story disappear.  Plus, when the Peter F. Paul case blows up in the fall, it will just add further fuel to the fire.

but don't just take my word for it.  Poblano, of Daily Kos did some outstanding work using polling data to run some simulations on the general election.  Hands down, the candidate who performs better vs. McCain is Barack Obama.

http://www.dailykos.com/story/2008/3/6/212016/8597

One of my favorite parts of that post:  "Obama has 22 states in which he's at least 70% to win, and collects 242 electoral votes from those states, almost enough to win the election by itself. But Clinton has just 14 safe states and 178 electoral votes by this definition, making her task considerably riskier."

Even if Clinton is somehow able to wrest the nomination from Obama, what is her plan for coming out ahead against McCain?  Is she going to out-experience him?  Is she going to try to claim that she would be a better military leader than the guy who actually served in the military?  Is she going to claim superior judgment because she bought into the same arguments that McCain did in terms of the Iraq war?   Hell, the Republicans probably already have a "she was for it before she was against it" ad in the can right now.

That leaves the economy which she may be able to do better on vs. McCain, but the aformentioned issues would more than offset any advantage she might have on economic issues.

Oh -- one other thing:  Barack Obama leads in pledged delegates, states won, popular vote, fundraising and "getting people off the couch" factor.
Like they won't bring up "Snipergate".  This is something SHE said unlike the Wright situation.  Go away Fat Lady...just go away
Super delegates have to take into account the strengths and weakness of both candidates and decide who would make the strongest candidate against what will undoubtedly be ferocious Republican attacks.

Ok so what will they do to HRC just stand ther and say your are right.

Look HRC has too much baggae.

The LIES on top of lies.
No one trust her.
Can`t run a campaign.
Can`t pay her Bills.
NAFTA,. Boy I bet the voters in Ohio are kicking themselves right now for falling for the double talk that she gave them about that one.

We need a change and HRC is not that change.

Ickes needs to stop talking he sounds like HRC lap dog and that putting it very mild.

Obama '08
Ickes is using an argument that could be used just as effectively to argue that Hillary should NOT be the nominee. I don't even need to list the reasons, just read the other comments. Just because Obama has been decent enough not to bring these things up -- that does not mean the Republicans won't.

And people still trust Obama to a certain extent (though the Wright scandal did hurt him a bit in that area) - Look at the number of people who trust Clinton - She has VERY low numbers there.

This is relevent b/c that trust will help Obama will be able to weather some of the lies and slime the Republicans throw his way - People may simply no believe some of these things if Obama catches them and responds quickly enough. Hillary, on the other hand, may not get the benefit of the doubt as easily - given her history and the perception that she is not trustworthy.
Could you please for ONCE post my comment below:  Thanks.

I have come to realize that most of Hill's supporters and those who keep harping on the Rev. Wright controversy are REAL racist folk in its best form.  They can't let it go because the irony of a black, intelligent minister who served in the marines for his country as a patriotic warrior, stood by the bedside of one of our past Presidents, marched in the civil right battles, spoke a few words things that didn't sit well with their racist ideology "..Good Nigga's should keep their mouths shut and dont rebel"!  This is their logic.  The most interesting thing about it is that these individuals try their best to hide their racist ideology with the rhetoric of questioning one's patriotism?  Hmmm....the good thing is that millions of Americans aren't racist like these idiots and can understand that sometimes people say dumb and controversial things, but that does not fully describe that person's character.  Rev. Wright is a good man who unfortunately can't put behind some of his pain of living in the 50's and 60's.  However, most of the (per Joe Scarbourgh-MSNBC) "...trailer park and rural white men and women have a problem with their unsettling past being thrown in their faces..."  So be it!  These are the bigots that wouldn't have voted for Barak Obama either way.  The good thing is that most Americans are smarter and are trying to put the past behind but unfortunately, we will never forget the past.  That's the price one have to pay for being "priviledged
This is really getting old!!  I doubt if the Rev. Wright issue will be any more important to the Republicans as it is to Harold Iches, who is trying to keep this story alive for the benefit of the Clintons. This is such a double standard, it is sickening.  The Clintons lie and misrepresent something every darn day, they hide their tax returns, they have more dirty laundry than anybody should be allowed to have and Iches worries about Republican attacks?  How about the REPUBLICAN, John McCain? How about his two UNHOLY Reverands?  Shouldn't he denounce and reject? Why is it that he can "proudly accept their endorsement"? and Obama is held responsible for Wright. So no one, not Iches, not McCain, nor any other Republican or Democrat is in any position to talk about Wright.  If every body takes care of what their own stupid friends or supporters or family members do or say, we will have more time talking the issues and not ruminate the same garbage over and over again.
As I've said before, I ve known Harold Ickes a long time and he has always been willing to  use any dirty trick  to hurt his opponent.  I expect nothing better from him and he is the best on HRC's staff.
I agree with this

Dear Senator Clinton,

If the superdelegates can't figure out that the horrible Rev. Wright will be brought up by Republicans during a general election they don't deserve to be superdelegates. However, the Republicans will bring up fact and fiction to win against EITHER candidate, so I'm not sure why Wright is worse than the long list of sins the Clintons have committed.
I'm a Republican...and you are all correct (with the exception of Inspiration -- some of those comments are simply not accurate, and the remaining comments are opinion rather than fact) -- but none the less...you are all correct.  Republicans will exploit all of Hillary's downfalls...especially NAFTA.

The only issue I have against Obama is his extreme lack of experience.  You do not go into the Call Center of an AT&T facility, pick a new hire, and make that individual CEO.  Too many jobs, lives, and families depend on experience leadership.  And I am certainly not saying McCaine is the best candidate, but he has more experience.  Obama has drafted on piece of legislation that has become law -- one.  Not much of a track record.
Wow Ickes you set yourself up for this one! How about the Faln goup who were serving prison sentences for terrorism that Clinton pardoned on his last day in office? Would the Clntons really have found any reason to free men who killed and injured people? Rocco Pascarella was injured in an FALN bombing on New Years's EVE in 1982. A bomb exploded at 26 Federal Plaza in New York. Pascarella testified on September 15,1999, before the Senate Judiciary Committee and said he could not understand why Clinton would grant any clemency request with American blood on it. Since these people were Puero Rican, do you think that the pardon was for Hillary's campaign in New York since one and a half million Puerto Ricans live in New York City. Come on Ickes. I could go on and on. The Republicans are biting at the bit to nominate Hillary so they can pull out all the punches. Give it a rest or you may be biting off more than you can chew.
The Republicans Have Handed Us Their Kryptonite
By Pamela Merritt - March 31, 2008, 8:35PM

I watched McCain’s ad recently, and once I stopped reacting as a person, and instead regarded it as a Brand professional… I was astonished.

The Republicans are running away from their Brand.

That’s why they are running McCain as an “American.”

Because if they run him as a Republican, they will lose.

God is bigger than Icky...Barack will prevail.

I stand for change and with Barack all the way to the White House
Push this story now, the press and public are already tired of it.  This issue will have zero effect when the GOP tries to use it this Fall.
