Let the conversation continue

From NBC/NJ’s Carrie Dann
RALEIGH, NC -- Clinton told North Carolina reporters today she has agreed to participate in a debate hosted by CBS in the state on April 27th. (The Obama campaign has not yet accepted, although the Illinois senator had agreed previously to an April 19th date.)

The announcement came during a conference call with members of the state press touting Clinton's new ad strategy. "This is not your typical 30-second commercial," Clinton said of the new ad buy, which will feature a new question each week from a North Carolina voter submitted on a new Web site launched by the campaign at NCAskMe.com.

Ace Smith, Clinton's state director in North Carolina, calls the strategy "a unique experiment in democracy."

Clinton described the idea of "continuing the conversation" with North Carolinians via television ads as a means of reaching out to as many voters as possible despite a busy campaign schedule. "I want to be as accessible to the people of North Carolina as possible, but obviously we are campaigning hard in all of the remaining states," Clinton said. "And so I wanted to give folks this opportunity to ask me questions."

The first of the 60-second ads, which begin running statewide tomorrow, will be Clinton's first television presence in the North Carolina. It features Clinton addressing the camera directly, but spokeswoman Carly Lindauer says future ads will have "a different flavor each week."

"I wouldn't be surprised if we even saw [Sen. Clinton] in somebody's living room answering a question," in a future ad, she added.

Lindauer says that the interactive ad strategy is not meant as a substitute for visits from the senator, who will be in the state "frequently."

Clinton noted on the call that she, along with her husband and daughter, will be spending more time in the state in the coming weeks. "You're going to see a lot of us," she said.

Here’s the script:
Hi, if you are looking for a typical political commercial, switch the channel. This isn't a typical election, and these are not typical times. The economy is reeling and as I talk with people across North Carolina, I hear about the crushing cost of healthcare from Winston-Salem to Fayetteville. I hear stories about families going into debt to send their children to college. Military families from Fort Bragg tell me their deep concerns about how we're treating our veterans. Teachers and parents tell me that No Child Left Behind just isn't working. And everywhere, North Carolinians tell me the middle class is just getting slammed.

I want to hear from you. Because this election isn't about me, it is about you. So let's have a conversation. Just go to NCAskMe.com, and then I'll be getting back to you here on TV to answer your questions and offer some solutions. Thanks. It's nice talking with you. I'm Hillary Clinton and I approve this message.

Some other "conversations" here and here and here.

I am so sick of all of this. The only reason this is still going on is for News ratings. And all the spin I am so dizzy. This back and forth is really gettling old. We really need to end this and elect someone "Obama"

Clinton has been misunintepreted.

She was speaking of the other NAFTA:

Never a Fully Truthful Answer.

She was always for it even while she was against it, though Bill was for it and Chelsea was equivocal, and even then she was totally for its not being a good deal. Except when it was. But that was later.

What was the question again?

Pat in Huntington, NY:

You want the more "intelligent voters", "Hillary supporters just like" you to vote in 2012?  Your grammar in your post is horrible.  You said that Obama reporters will "bare" responsibility (wrong word - should be "bear responsibility").

The next time you "intelligent Hillary supporters" want to take the responsibility for voting for the rest of us, while we all stay at home, why don't the supporters just tell Hillary that her foreign policy and economic experience is pretty "bare"!

"Anyone But Hillary" 2008!
$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

So, she's going to loan herself some more money to cover the costs, right?  (And really, let's hope it's technically Bill's money.)

$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

And the debate:  The reason she won't debate on the date that Obama agreed to (a few weeks ago)???  The new date (in NC) means that this debate won't happen until after PA is done...Is this so that she can change her stance on things to be more like the NC profile?  If she went with the earlier date, she'd have to tell PA and NC all the same things and not have time to go back and undo her 'mispeaks' from PA.

$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

Get out the checkbook, girl!

I'm with you HP Boston. A vote for Obama is a vote for McWar. I hope fellow democrats wake up to that before we elect another corporate war loving republican.
C.A....   Better yet, why not just get people in her campaign to ask AND answer the questions.  That will save lots of time in the posting of them on her website.  Remember when FEMA set up that fake press core?  Want to bet that this whole "Ask me a question, so I can tell you more lies" ad campaign is as fake as that press conference was.

Diane from Illinois,

Thank You for the offer, I'm sure that our stage business will be more then happy to get the bill paid! Since Hillary still hasn't paid (ofcouse it is only a small amount around $15,000.00 for each company and there are about 3 of them) they have been posting all over the web about what she owes, one owner said that come November he will not vote for her like he did in March!
I can see the slip... slip... slipping out of the Swift boaters Wallets NOW...

IF, and again... this is a VERY BIG IF he is nominated (as indeed this is a close race) - with the "consistency of Obama's serious inconsistencies"
The swift boaters are going to have real smooth sailing come Sept/Oct.  So I say to all you swift boaters out there...  GET YOUR WALLETS OUT FELLA'S  we sure are going to see the best of Rev. Wright's religious sermons by Fall 08!!

Sen. Obama is 110% UNELECTABLE !! And the DNC is willing to gamble the Whitehouse that he is is...

GOOD LUCK AMERICA!!
Retraction from my earlier post that Hillary won't be releasing March campaign contributions until April 20:

Newsflash - The HRC campaign just released that they raised $20M in March, despite the fact that earlier today, they stated that they would withhold the information until April 20.

Still, my original point was valid.  How much of this money will go the outstanding balances owed to the vendors in past states and how much will go to this
Q&A PR farce that's she's offering up to us?

"Anyone but Hillary" 2008!
Obama is utterly unelectable...and all you Obamabots will bare full responsibility if he loses to McCain. If that happpens, ya'll should just shut the heck up in 2012 and let the more intelligent among us [the current Hillary supporters] pick the next nominee.

Pat Huntington NY (Sent Thursday, April 03, 2008 3:18 PM)

-----------------------------------

This comment will, of course, get all of us "Obamabots" to line up behind Senator Clinton should she somehow become the nominee.

Yeah, we're stupid and we can't think for ourselves...that's why Senator Obama is leading over Senator Clinton among voters with college educations.

Thanks, Pat!
Hi Chuck,

is there a general poll- nationwide, regional or even at NC that answers the question " Do we need another debate?" - If this is by the people, for the people, of the people ...let the voters say that - a debate is good. Not just when one candidate thinks - "u know ..I feel like want to say something to the people and so lets have a debate"
Hot off the presses-------Clinton campaign source just said they raised about $20 million in March.  No other minor details were given such as debt, primary vs. general money, whether healthcare was paid for, and if other small business vendors were paid.
If Clinton, and all of her supporters, are SO SURE that she's the only one who can beat McCain, then why can't she beat Obama in number of states won, in delegates and in fund raising?  If she was "all that," the primaries would have been over long ago.

She can't even afford to pay her campaign bills, or her vendors.  She's out fundraising again today, so maybe she'll raise enough to pay off that 9 million (and growing) dollar debt.
