First thoughts: Walking in Memphis

*** Walking in Memphis: Today is the 40th anniversary of the assassination of Martin Luther King Jr. in Memphis, TN, and both Clinton and McCain are in the city to commemorate the event. At noon, Clinton gives a speech at the Mason Temple: Church of God and Christ, while McCain makes remarks around the same time to the Southern Christian Leadership Conference, holds a media avail afterwards, and then lays a wreath at the National Civil Rights Museum. Obama won’t be in Memphis. Instead, his campaign says, he will talk about the anniversary during his campaign event in Fort Wayne, IN. It's odd that Obama chose not to go. No doubt it's tricky for some to decide what to politicize and what not to, but this seemed like one of those events that would cut across party lines. As it turns out, McCain will be spending more time in Memphis today than Clinton and (obviously) Obama -- so it provides him with an interesting moment in the sun. Does he get more national attention today than he received on the first four days of his “Service to America” tour? While McCain may not pick off too many black voters in the general (versus Obama), he could be laying the groundwork for wooing blacks if Clinton somehow becomes the nominee.

*** Plenty of interesting numbers: A brand-new New York Times/CBS poll has plenty of interesting findings. A whopping 81% say the country is on the wrong track; Obama leads Clinton 46%-43% (which is within the poll’s margin of error), but that’s down from the 54%-38% lead he held over her in late February, after he had gone on his winning streak; and Obama’s favorability numbers among Democrats also are down seven points (from 69% to 62%), although Clinton’s numbers are slightly lower (58%). What’s more, on the question of which presidential candidate shares your moral values, Obama ranks first (with 70%), McCain second (at 66%), and Clinton third (at 60%). With her personal numbers at a campaign low in various polls, Clinton is embarking on a new likeability tour with stops on Leno and Ellen. On Ellen, which will air on Monday, she brought up the "boys" trying to push her out and seemed to garner sympathy from the host and audience. On Leno, Clinton took the time to fix the Bosnia stuff and told a pretty funny LA sniper story.

VIDEO: NBC Deputy Political Director Mark Murray offers his first read on the darkening mood in the U.S. and what it means to the 2008 presidential candidates.

*** It’s close in Indiana: A new Research 2000 poll of Indiana shows Clinton with a three-point lead (49%-46%). The poll seems to be a reminder that no matter what happens in the next three states, Clinton may not win any blowouts. What if she narrowly wins Pennsylvania and Indiana, but loses North Carolina by double-digits? It's actually as likely a scenario as any. For some reason, Clinton ekes out her victories (with a few exceptions), while Obama has only won just ONE close race of note (Missouri). Most of his primary victories have been blowouts (see, well, the month of February). Do narrow wins move supers or do blowouts? Can Obama claim that a narrow loss in states Clinton targets -- combined with a blowout win for him in North Carolina -- is enough to prove that he's as electable as Clinton in the general?

*** Every delegate counts: While he won’t be in Memphis, Obama -- in addition to his event in Indiana -- heads to Grand Forks, ND, where both he (at 6:30 pm ET) and Clinton (at 8:30 pm ET) address the North Dakota Democratic Party convention. North Dakota already held its caucuses on February 5, and Obama won that contest, 61%-37%, picking up eight delegates to Clinton’s five. Per a campaign source, Clinton is going to North Dakota to 1) thank and retain the delegates she won two months ago and 2) see if they can possibly steal an uncommitted delegate or two when re-caucusing takes place on Saturday. After all, remember that in the recent county conventions in Iowa, Obama was able to grab extra delegates from his original haul (most of the gain came from Edwards’ delegates). Yet Jamie Selzler, executive director of the North Dakota Democratic Party, tells First Read that under the state party’s bylaws, delegates to the convention are strongly encouraged to reflect the vote from February 5. Of course, as we’ve learned in this campaign, anything is possible.

*** The Tax Day cometh: While today could be the day the Clinton campaign releases its post-White House tax returns, it may takes days before the media does its scrub. While many an insider may be most interested in Bill Clinton's income and various business deals, the bigger impact may simply be the amount of money the former first couple has made over the last seven years. Will those working class voters Clinton is appealing to be turned off by their wealth?

*** Just asking: Who needs the Obama-Clinton race to end more: the Dems or McCain? You can actually argue it's McCain, since he's strongest when he's running against … someone. In a general election, Clinton and Obama would be two different campaigns -- both on message and geography. So McCain has to hold off on his general election strategy until the Dems pick a nominee, whenever that is… Also, was Corzine's little popular vote comment, which some took as a potential sign he could flip from Clinton to Obama, actually a clever way of helping to push the idea that the popular vote should be a fair barometer for the superdelegates to judge the nominating contest? Had the campaigns known in January that the popular vote was going to matter so much, wouldn't that have changed campaign strategies?

*** Uh, oh: There’s nothing like having a chief strategist -- Mark Penn -- who also happens to be the CEO of a major PR company. On Monday, Penn met with Colombians about their trade pact -- a trade pact opposed by Penn's supposed No. 1 client, Hillary Clinton. This is an un-needed distraction and only allows Obama to play the Washington insider card one more time. What was Penn thinking? Or is he not as involved in the Clinton campaign and is starting to worry about his day job? Does this incident become the excuse those inside the Clinton campaign who would like to see Penn go use to push for his ouster? Considering all the hay the Clinton campaign made out of the Obama campaign's policy adviser meeting with the Canadians to cool their jets on the NAFTA rhetoric, Penn may find himself in more hot water than he realized when he made the decision to meet with Colombians on this trade pact issue.

*** The Fellowship of the ring: Last night on Nightly News, NBC’s Andrea Mitchell examined a little-known yet influential Christian group, The Fellowship, which sponsors the annual National Prayer Breakfast that many Washington politicians attend (including presidents and the two Democrats running for president this year). The Fellowship, however, also seems something out of a Dan Brown novel -- it’s secretive, it has had ties to some unsavory third-world leaders, and its leader, Doug Coe, has said things in the past that have appeared to praise Hitler (at least his organizational skills) and oddly honor Chairman Mao. Well, as Mitchell and others have reported, Hillary Clinton has participated in its smaller prayer groups and has called Coe a spiritual mentor and guide. In many ways, Clinton’s ties to The Fellowship don’t compare to Obama and Rev. Wright -- Coe isn’t her pastor, she has never given him or his group money, and has never heard the controversial things he’s said. Yet Clinton, when recently criticizing Obama over Wright, said you choose who your pastor is. But isn’t that also true of spiritual advisers?

*** On the trail: Besides today’s events in Memphis and North Dakota… Obama campaigns in Fort Wayne, IN; Bill Clinton is in North Carolina; and Chelsea Clinton stumps in West Virginia.

Sudden thoughts and second thoughts…

Why is there so much disparity in polling services?  Does that bother anyone besides me?
Why do Bill and Chelsea Clinton get so much news coverage?
What are John Edwards and Joe Biden waiting for?
How, in a week that has not had any new hard stories, has the daily Gallop Poll gap closed?
Does anyone besides me try to imagine what the country will be like when their favorite candidate has a few months under their belt as our new President?
Does anyone really believe we will ever see the Clinton tax returns?

You forgot to mention Connecticut.  Obama won a surprise race there 50-48%.
"Obama won’t be in Memphis. Instead, his campaign says, he will talk about the anniversary during his campaign event in Fort Wayne, IN. It's odd that Obama chose not to go."
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
I don't find it odd at all that Senator Obama will not be in Memphis today. In light of all that has gone on in this campaign in the past weeks, I think that Senator Obama is allowing the spotlight to shine exactly where it belongs - on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and his legacy, instead of the media trying to link it to current political issues.

Martin Luther King's legacy lives all across America, so wherever Senator Obama chooses to pay his respects is appropriate.

Obama '08
So is Obama skipping town because he doesn't want any more racial overtones added to his campaign? Comparisons to MLK would be inevitable. Smart move or dumb?

http://www.political-buzz.com/
Edwards also declined to say if he would endorse Obama or Clinton. Thompson joked he would say who he was voting for if Edwards revealed his choice. He responded, “the only thing I know for sure is we’re not voting for the same guy.” After a long pause, he added, “or woman.”
___

Opps!  Amazing how a quick slip of the tongue can reveal what you didn't want to reveal.
Sorry, but your comment on the poll of 50-38 now 46-43 is incorrect.  It was Obama 50% over McCain 38%, not HRC.  The quote from the NYT is:

"The poll showed that Mr. Obama now leads Senator John McCain of Arizona, the presumptive Republican presidential nominee, 47 percent to 42 percent; his lead was 50 percent to 38 percent in late February, when Mr. McCain still faced primary opposition from Mike Huckabee."

I know you guys really, really, really want this to go on for as long as possible.  However, you should try your best not to change the information to suit your needs.

Be ready Obama supporters it well take all of us to speak up and speak out against all the lies the republicans will use to try to scare the uneducated voters. We will have to stand strong and make sure the truth is heard.

Obama '08
Hillary Clinton and The Fellowship? You're kidding me, right? Is there anything about Hillary Clinton that is not secretive? (I love how Senator Clinton get cool points for NOT having a church home - who knew?)

And the Mark Penn, Columbia trade deal thing? Who are we supposed to believe, the Clinton campaign or our lying eyes? :)

P.S. 12 more days until "the Clintons" release their tax returns . . . alledgedly.
Your choice of language is interesting, Clinton took time to fix the Bosnia story.  Not my take.  I was HORRIFIED she was joking about lying to the American electorate, absolutely horrified.

Obama 08
I was a little suprised that Obama was not going to Memphis too.  But I guess it serves as a reminder that you do not need to travel to a particular city to remember the man.  Many of us not able to go to Memphis today will be paying homage to the life and work of Dr. King (in our own ways).

Obama 08
Aren't you splitting hairs over a Pastor v a "Spiritual Advisor"?  Exactly what would the difference be?  If he has influence over Senator Clinton's religious life and how she views society, it is exactly the same thing.

But the problem with the Clintons go farther than that.  It is the same thing that got them in trouble in the White House the first time.  No matter how what they do impacts the tax payer, it is all a secret.  That led to the Health Care debacle that Senator Clinton was in charge of, as well as the endless investigations and the Impeachment.  Why would ANYONE vote for more of that?
In reading about Martin Luther King Jr. this morning, it struck me that he was only 39 years old at the time of his death. I went back last weekend and watched tapes I have of him being interviewed on the old Mike Douglas & Merv Griffin programs. I firmly believe that his voice would have continued to inspire people for many many years.

Unfortunately, the Civil Rights Movement died when he died. LBJ comes to mind today as well as MLK and RFK.

Sad day. Especially when I hear the racist talk all over the air waves these days from the mouths of people who haven't a clue about anything, except how to scream and how to hate. It's never about trying to understand or even bothering to take the time to become educated. Never.
Re. the popular vote, not only would the campaigns have changed strategies (here we go, another rule change in the middle of the game), but you also have to factor in the caucus states (the states not reporting the popular vote factor).

There is a reason that you don't change rules in the middle of the game...not only does it tend to favor one candidate over another (why else then would someone be requesting a rules change) but essentially our system is not set up to handle that as the measure.

Fair is fair.  Not fair is a big old problem.

Obama 08
So a Clinton strategist was in another foreign country talking about a trade pact.

Hmmm. Guess its a matter of hours before the Clinton camp attacks the Obama camp for saying one thing to American voters and another to Colombians officials.
Its true of spiritual advisors too (perhaps even more true given that you can choose a pastor as part of an overall church that you like, e.g., the church does public works that you approve of and a church can have many preaching pastors).

That Fellowhip (the Family) stuff is scary.  Fair is fair.  If the spiritual advisors get scrutinized they should all get scrutinized.

No more free passes for Clinton.

Obama 08
Sen Clinton says that Rev Wright would not have been my pastor, well that means that Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. would not have qualified as her pastor either. He was critisized for the very things that Jerimiah Wright said and preached. She is a hypocrit and she is there for photo opps. She has lost the black vote. Rev Sharpton is there and has bejun to organize a "Black Out" if hte nomination is unfairly taken from Sen Obama. What is a black out? Where black, brown and red voters vote for Nader.  He was on his radio show.
The latest CBS/NY Times poll among all registered independent voters reveals some trouble trends post Obama pastor controversy:

Comparing the last two CBS/NY Times Polls among registered independent voters:
March 15-18: Obama 43 % and Clinton 29% (Obama +14)
March 28-Apr 2nd: Obama 36% and Clinton 33% (statistically tie)

Comparing the last two CBS/NY Times Polls among registered Republicans:
March 15-18: Obama 27 % and Clinton 35% (Clinton +8)
March 28-Apr 2nd: Obama 40 % and Clinton 23% (Obama +17)*

*The CBS/NYT poll excerpt:"(of, course, that can just as easily be due to Republicans thinking Obama might be easier to beat as Republicans liking his candidacy)"

Even with bad week Hillary Clinton is competitive facing John McCain in 4 RCP polls, Nationally, PA, FL and OH, while John McCain is now tie with Barack Obama Nationally and Pennsylvania, with Florida (+8) and OHIO (+5).

Obama supporters calling Floridia voters "Rules Breakers"  may be showing in FL polls with the strongest backlash against Obama, where McCain is ahead an average of 8% in RCP polls, which may have prompted Dr. Howard Dean saying "We believe we will seat a delegation from Florida"
Robert Kennedy had to inform a crowd in Indianapolis, Indiana that that Martin Luther King Jr. had been assasinated on April 4, 1968. Perhaps this fact is part of the reason that Senator Obama will be rememebering Dr. King there today.

African Americans are not going to be swayed by McCain-- because he voted against MLK holiday.
Am I the only one who thinks it's irresponsible for MSNBC to be covering the King assassination all day long, in light of the current political climate? Yesterday, this blog approved two examples of hate speech: one comparing Obama to the anti-Christ, and one comparing him to Hitler. With violent mental illness on the rise, the media should not go overboard in covering these types of crimes. King is already a hero, and there are plenty of other opportunities to honor him without focusing on the assassination.
On Ellen, which will air on Monday, she brought up the "boys" trying to push her out and seemed to garner sympathy from the host and audience.
----------------------------------------------

Those mean old boys!!!!!!
You know you have problems when Randi Rhodes goes after you.  Hillary even has Air America going after her LOL.

Good Morning America had an excellent story about all the shady deals Bill Clinton got himself into over the last few years, so the tax records will be investigated further.  This is why they have been putting them off, so they can see if anything on there will embarrrass Hillary, which of course it will.

If anything, people will be turned off by the way The Clinton's made their wealth; shady deals with shady people.

This thing with the Clinton taxes is being made a story by the Clintons. I know they're rich. Everyone knows they're rich. And I really do doubt there's much in their tax returns that couldn't be explained away.

So why make a non-story into a story? Seems just dumb, but that's exactly what they've done by waiting months to release tax returns for 2006 and earlier.

And while its no secret they're rich, they probably don't want that to dominate the news cycle for 24 hours or so. But by making this non-story a story, of course reporters will be talking about how much they have, telling us how much or little they've given to charities, pointing to securities from companies not quite as socially responsible as Ben and Jerry's. Just dumb.
Well, CT's victory for Obama was not a surprise to me (and truthfully it seems his support has grown here) but  in all candor...CT is solidly blue.  I suspect either Obama or Clinton would handily win the State in Nov.  (now us having a Republican governor is another matter entirely, that is the suprising thing about CT).

Have a nice day from the rainy Nutmeg State!
President Obama is giving a speech on Martin Luther King as well as the death of the Kennedys in Indiana and North Dakota today.  John and Hillary are in Memphis because they are playing politics, they could care less about the March.  Their ppearance is more about getting the black vote.  So Please Chuck Todd and the rest of the so called pundits, stop making something out of nothing.  His not being there will not hurt him at all.  His campagne is about UNITY.  We had three great individuals murdered MARTIN, JOHN AND ROBERT.

President Obama, keep doing what you're doing! Change this crazy world for the better!!!!!

Michelle
I'm not surprised that Obama will pay respect to Dr. King from Indiana. The media would be all over him being in Memphis and the focus would be on race and not Dr. King. I think it's wise and respectful of Obama. Hillary and McFossil need the free publicity since they can't seem to get donations these days.
So Clinton went on Leno to make light of her elaborate lie?  I thought it was Letterman who used to do the "writer's embellishment" shtick.

Obama '08!
When some one has to tell a joke to cover their assets, I'm wondering what jokes they're saying about other people..
Only shows again the "better than thou" attitude of of Billary Inc.
These explainations are not called for. Voluntary
excuses for lunacy speaks volumes about this persons
candor...
Let's remember those that have tried to sell us the snake oil and rebuke it for what it really is...
On Ellen, which will air on Monday, she brought up the "boys" trying to push her out and seemed to garner sympathy from the host and audience
~~~~~~~
As a white professional woman of a 'certain age', I take offense with Hillary's exploitation of "the boys".  I've always worked in a male dominated field.  I've found there are two types of women in such organizations - those who work hard and prove themselves worthy, and those who blame the men for "keeping them down".  Yes, there are groups of men who don't understand that female peers are just peers, not competition.  But I've also observed that the kind of women who blame "the boys", don't do anything to reach out to "the boys" anymore than those misguided males reach out to them.  When I first started working 20 years ago, I was told that wearing skirts would look too female and I wouldn't be taken seriously.  I didn't fall for it.  I'm a girly-girl and that's just that - besides, I thought, regardless of what I'm wearing, they're going to figure out I'm not a boy.
What gets women ahead in a man's world?  Porfessional competence, collaboration, respecting everyone. While Hillary Clinton could be the first woman president, she's one of the women who think that acting (and dressing) like a man is what it takes.  She's missing the point.  Women tend to offer different ways of looking at things and different ways of approaching problems.  If Hillary Clinton's our next president, she may sit to go to the bathroom, but she's just another one of "the boys".
Strange that Obama will not be in Memphis.  Strange man that Obama.  Look at the web site: www.audacityofhypocrisy.com.  This may explain a few things about Obama that the MSM just doesn't put out there. There are over 60 items listed.  All good reasons for not voting Obama.
For McCain to be in Memphis today is a severe slap in the first of Dr. King's legacy. How can he be there on the anniversary of his death and still support the war in Iraq, being that one of Dr. King's fights was against a similar war, the war in Vietnam.
Jon Corzine, Clinton Superdelegate, Hints At Switching Support
April 3, 2008 10:42 AM
Election process stories are everywhere, and this morning, one of the more talked about twists on the road to the White House occurred on CNBC's "Squawk Box," when New Jersey Governor and Clinton superdelegate told the roundtable that if his candidate failed to win the popular vote, he "reserved the right" to switch his vote.
Feet of clay? Not entirely: Corzine's standard for popular vote majority explicitly include the states of Florida and Michigan being counted.
CORZINE: I'm a superdelegate. I'm going to look at delegate selection, who has the most. I'm going to look at the popular vote. who has the most votes.
Not the popular vote, and not the numbers. Can that person win given the fact that that person may be able to take all the big states that the other person couldn't?
CORZINE: I think it would be a very hard argument to make. No, I'm a very aggressive supporter of Senator Clinton, I think you need, at least a popular vote.
Are you saying as a superdelegate and a Hillary Clinton supporter, if she does not have the popular vote you would take your superdelegate vote and support Barack Obama?
CORZINE: I don't think it will have to be a question.
Reserving the right...
CORZINE: Kind of reserving the right.
You almost made a headline there, you know that? You pulled back, though.
CORZINE: Reserving the right. I do think the popular vote, but I believe Michigan and Florida need to be included in that and that's very frustrating that it's being blocked....'
Since McCain is basically doing a Stay-the-Curse Dubya Remix, wouldn't that make him on the 'Wrong Track', too? Maybe it's time he started distancing himself from Dubyatalk...and no more kisses in the Rose Garden, either. Just an Independent Observation.
Considering the fact that our young men and women are facing sniper fire, REAL sniper fire, and are REALLY putting there lives in danger every single day, it was in extremely poor taste for Hillary Clinton to make a joke out of her lies to the American public regarding her trip to Bosnia.  Disgusting.  I wanted so badly to be able to vote a woman into the White House but she turns me off more and more as time goes on.
LATEST HILLARY “STORY” REVEALED ON FOX’S ‘THE FACTOR’ BY BILL O’REILLY THIS EVENING.
THE UNBELIEVEABLE (SOMETHING NEW???) HILLARY STORY IS THAT SHE TRIED TO JOIN THE MILITARY IN 1974 OR 75 BUT COULDN’T BECAUSE OF BAD EYESIGHT. —
APPARENTLY THIS STORY HAS BEEN AROUND FOR A WHILE BUT THE MEDIA HAS NOT FULLY VETTED IT.
THERE IS NO EXPANATIONAS WHY HILLARY RODHAM WHO WAS ABOUT TO MARRY BILL CLINTON WANTED TO JOIN THE MILITARY IN THIS ERA OF THE VIETNAM WAR.
P.S. O’REILLY OPINED THAT HER BAD EYESIGHT MAY BE THE REASON SHE WAS CONFUSED ABOUT THE SNIPER FIRE ON HER BOSNIA TRIP.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
WILL THE LEGITIMATE MEDIA PLEASE VET THIS STORY?
==============================================
I agree with nashville_fan; the spotlight should be on MLK and not Obama, and of course Obama will acknowledge the date, and pragmatically he needs to campaign in Indiana and should not sacrifice a day for a pro forma appearance in Memphis. In fact, philosophically, just like MLK he needs to be addressing people that DON'T already agree with him!
You don't change people's minds about race by always doing what is expected of you because of your race. I think the same thing about his bowling in Altoona. He should NOT stick to sports he excels at; people give him credit for the effort. It is humanizing. I bowl a decent game, and I find his 7-frame 37 (with a strike!) endearing, and not bad for a first-timer. Gutter balls and strikes and barely missed spares are what make it fun; these inconsequential near misses and hair-breadth successes and smash hits are all opportunities for humor and friendship. C'mon, inconsequential failure is just plain funny.
I think by definition of "sane", any sane person will agree that how badly a non-bowler bowls is completely irrelevant to whether a person has the judgement to lead the country out of the horrific mess it is in, and although it is probably impossible to measure, I'd bet the Altoona bowling experience is a net positive for Obama.
And the same thing for appearing in Fort Wayne today.
not fooled - Why is it strange Obama won't be in Memphis?
We can celebrate Dr. King's life anywhere, can't we? Seems to me going to Memphis is more for celebrating his death.
You know, it's not so much the candidates, but the candidates supporters that are putting race and gender into this election.  I think it's a bit of a stretch to say that what Hillary Clinton meant when she told Bill Richardson that "He (Obama) can't win" was code for "he's black, he's not going to win".
Everyone needs to stop focusing on the witch hunt of Hillary Clinton (and yes, that is all it is...I don't see the media going after Obama in this fashion, or Mccain for that matter)and get back to who would be the best to defeat Mccain in the fall and get this country back on track.  The polls are all over the place, every single last one of them, and they have not been at all reliable during this election season.  Whether its because of who's being chosen, how they're being chosen, the questions used and the way they're asked, bottom line is the ONLY thing the polls agree on is this is the most hard-fought, unpredictable primary we have ever seen.  There is NO clear winner here, and that's what has the American people up set; they're used to having clear choices.  Look at the super-delegates; I mean, they're ready to jump ship or stay depending on the PA Primary.
One more thing; I don't know of one person who says that they didn't have it good during the 90's when Clinton was in power.  What is driving me up the wall are people that say,"Hillary can't do all that."  Well, they said the same thing about Bill Clinton; he couldn't balance the budget, he couldn't get us a surplus, he couldn't lower unemployment, he couldn't get the palestinians and israeli's to at least sit down and talk to each other.  To my best recollection, he did all that and more.
Everyone needs to do one thing:  Chill Out!
http://twocanpete.blogspot.com/
Looking forward to a day full of hate speech disguised as 'Liberation Theology'. Bill Clinton can pretend to be black while he avoids explaining why he sent the jobs of 10 million working poor to Communist China.
On Ellen, which will air on Monday, she brought up the "boys" trying to push her out and seemed to garner sympathy from the host and audience.
--------------------------------------
Senator Clinton, please be careful who you call a "boy", okay?
And to put Dr. King's death commemoration in context (specifically the question about who will be in Memphis and who won't), let me ask this:
How many of the candidates were in Dealey Square last November? Or planning to go to LA later this spring to commemorate RFK (also a 40th anniversary)?
But by not making these pilgrimages, are any of them (particularly the Democrats) somehow less of a Democrat, or in some way showing disrespect toward the Kennedys?
I'd say 'no.' And I suspect Dr. King would prefer people remember his words rather than the city in which he was gunned down. Just my two-cents.
McSame is such a pander pup...he has voted against every legislative bill that would benefit MLK's consituency duing his endless years of guvement service...don't be conned again by a bushie
Senator Obama was on the Tom Joyner Morning Show today and will be in Indiana to commerate the passing of Dr. King.  Had you listened, he stated that the message that Dr. King spoke of has to be spread across the US, not just Memphis.  Robert Kennedy was campaigning in Indiana when Dr. King was killed and spoke/announced Dr. Kings passing.  I don't know if it will be in the same location, but Sen. Obama understands he is running for President of the US and doesn't need to pretend he only cares about one group when it comes across as fake.  He will also go to North Dakota today and spread his message as well as Dr. King's.  What is it that Hillary and McCain can say that seems like it is just for show.  Do either really care?
The goal from the outset was to acquire the most Pledged Delegates - not the most Popular Vote. The strategies of both campaigns should have been based on that Pledged Delegate goal. The Obama camp has obviously played by the rules known by everyone and worked in each state to acquire the most Pledged Delegates. The Clinton camp did not have any long-term strategy as they were so smug and over-confident that they thought this was going to be a "coronation" - not a competition. They thought it would all be over by Super Tuesday, February 5. That is why they are scrambling now in an almost laughable way trying to rewrite the nominating rules. One day the "talking point" is "Popular Vote" - another day it is "Electoral Vote" - and yet another day it is "there is no such thing as a Pledged Delegate!" Oh, and they changed their tune from last fall about the results in the "Beauty Contests" in Fl and MI counting only after she started losing. Just remeber - the Superdelegates have been going to Obama since February 5 - almost two months. Hillary has lost delegates - not gained. Why anyone would think they are suddenly going to go with Hillary - especially after the Bosnia story - is beyond me. Unless she wins really BIG in all of the remaining contests - not by just 10 points - but by 15 points or 20 to 30 points, which is what Obama did in state after state like Wisconsin, VA, and MD - then the Superdelegates will not overturn the winner of the most Pledged Delegates - Obama.
I too, a white, almost 52-year-old, female (Hillary demographic) would never ever EVER vote for a Clinton ever again on any ballot anywhere!  In '92 I did vote for Bill, but in '96 left the President check-box blank.  Could see the corruption early on, which continues today--apologies schmapologies!  I will gladly join the "Black Out" that Sharpton suggests if her name appears anywhere on this coming November's ballot.
Rest in peace, Dr. King, knowing that your words started something, empowered something, and many have benefited from your legacy.
I am going to write to my nephew who is a marine currently in Iraq and let him know about HRC's joke about sniper fire.  So, what he is doing over there is a joke according to HRC?  Oh, I forgot, she voted for the war.  She has stooped to an all time low.
The irony.  She is part of the Fellowship which honors Hitler and other dictators, but she criticizes Obama for his relationship with Wright.
Walking In Memphis is a great song. I'm familiar with Lonestar's version, although I know it's not the original.
Whether it's revelent or not, Memphis is famous for Graceland first, then Sun Records and anything else connected with Elvis.
If you ask any white or black man 40 years old and under where Martin Luther King was killed, I seriously doubt many would answer "Memphis," and that's unfortunate.
So the Clintons are rich, does that mean Obama is poor?? I guess they only had a little over $900,000. last year.  Hardly enough to pay for dance and summer camps for the girls according to Michelle. Poor things.
Will those working class voters Clinton is appealing to be turned off by their wealth?
you might add that the clintons wealth was made buy selling out the very working class that supposedly supports her, go figure
Doesn't surprise me at all that Sen Obama is skipping the festivities.  He skipped the State of the Black Union meeting, and the invitation to a Mississippi state democratic event honoring a prominent African American from that state (although Sen Clinton attended).  He is skipping because he knows he doesn't have to make an effort to get the African American vote, they will vote for him simply because he is black.  Talk about arrogance.
