Thompson visiting McCain this weekend

Posted: Saturday, April 05, 2008 3:46 PM by Mark Murray

From NBC/NJ's Carrie Dann and Adam Aigner-Treworgy
NBC and National Journal have learned that former presidential candidate Fred Thompson is visiting GOP nominee John McCain at McCain's Arizona cabin in Sedona this weekend.

No word of what's been discussed, although a source with knowledge of the visit says that the purpose may be more of a relaxing weekend getaway than a business meeting.  (The two men have been longtime personal friends, even during their overlapping presidential bids.)

Thompson endorsed McCain after ending his own run for the GOP nomination.

Hey, I would be very happy if Fred were McCain's VP choice.  They could run as the "two old geezers" and I'd sleep very well at night, knowing the country was in the hands of grown-ups.
If Fred Thompson was the vice president choice for McCain, he would be the only Republican who could pull the conservative base in to vote for McCain.  Many are not going to vote at all, vote 3rd party or even vote for the Democratic candidate to teach the party a lesson.  Thompson would bring many of the Republicans back to the fold.
I hope McCain isn't wanting Thompson to be Vice-President. He would be much more effective as Attorney General.
Correction;

Fred endorsed McCain only after it was obvious McCain was manipulated to the nominee.

IF McCain has a single brain cell in his head, he'll ask Fred to run with him.

Oh yes, let's trot the insignificant Fred Thompson back out for some more useless commentary. Who is next for a weekend visit at the McCain residence -- the undertaker? Even an elderly mortician might exhibit more energy than Fred Thompson has. If there is one thing that can be said about McCain as the Republican nominee, "thank God he isn't Thompson." I don't think America could ever have recovered from a Fred Thompson Presidency. Mr. Thompson himself would have likely slept through most of the hard parts anyway.
