First thoughts: The sword mightier...

*** Clinton's Sword Is Mightier Than Penn: As most everyone knows by now, Mark Penn is no longer the Clinton campaign’s chief strategist. The reason: The Wall Street Journal story from Friday, which reported that Penn -- in his role as chief executive of PR giant Burson Marsteller -- was discussing with the Colombian government a trade agreement that Clinton opposes. As we speculated when this story first surfaced, Penn was providing his critics inside the campaign an opportunity to push him out. It looks like Penn's final protectors, the Clintons, were convinced that this episode was the last straw. In some ways, it's remarkable that Penn lasted this long in the dual roles of chief strategist and CEO of a major worldwide PR firm. Imagine the press scrutiny had Karl Rove, for instance, attempted to keep two jobs like that during the Bush campaigns. Or if James Carville had tried this during the Clinton years. It was quite remarkable what Penn was trying to do.

VIDEO: NBC Political Director Chuck Todd offers his first read on Clinton's top strategist stepping down, and Penn's dual roles.

*** A tough couple of weeks: Penn’s resignation as chief strategist -- his firm will still do polling for the campaign, apparently -- caps what has been a tough couple of weeks for the Clinton campaign. First came the Tuzla sniper stories. Next was the should-she-stay-or-should-she-go speculation. Then came the reports that Obama raised twice the amount Clinton did in March; that the Clintons made $109 million since Bill left the White House; and that an anecdote Hillary was telling on the campaign (about a pregnant woman who died after being denied health care) isn’t necessarily true. The possible good news from Penn’s ouster as chief strategist: Those other stories move to the backburner. There’s also a new North Carolina poll -- which shows Clinton trailing Obama there by nine points (with a lot of undecideds) -- that finds Clinton scored much lower on the issue of “trustworthiness” than either Obama or McCain. Toss in the Bosnia story and now that hospital story, and it appears she's made up zero ground on this issue, which dogged her husband and her in polling for some time.

*** Petraeus returns: The presidential campaign moves from the campaign trail to Capitol Hill on Tuesday and Wednesday, when Gen. David Petraeus and Ambassador Ryan Crocker testify to the Senate and the House, respectively. Clinton, McCain, and Obama will all be asking questions on Tuesday. Perhaps no candidate could gain more from this week's hearings than Clinton. If she can somehow look the part of chief questioner, it could bolster her presidential readiness argument. In fact, one could argue, she HAS to become the story out of these hearings. After all, there aren't many game changing opportunities left before voting resumes on April 22.

*** The delegate count: Obama’s lead continues to creep higher, as he picked up another superdelegate -- DNC member and state legislator Margaret Campbell from Montana. Obama now holds an overall lead of 1,641-1,507 and trails in superdelegates, 255-225. Since Super Tuesday, per our count, Obama has picked up 55 supers while Clinton has lost a net of five. Overall, Obama has almost a 130-delegate lead over Clinton, which comes out to a 52%-48% split.

*** Busy Bill: The former president is in Puerto Rico today and, as usual these days, he has a very full schedule. As we've noted several times, the pace of Bill Clinton's schedule is amazing.

*** Heston passes: In honor of the now late Charlton Heston, you can't pry this First Read unless you do so from our cold, dead Blackberries." Heston may have done more for the gun movement than any other individual; his leadership on the issue humanized the pro-gun advocates at a time when the NRA, in particular, was under siege by gun control legislation all over the country. The NRA may never have a leader like Heston again but then again, they might not need one for some time as he put the pro-gun group on a path that helped alter the politics of guns for a generation.

*** On the trail: Clinton is down in DC; McCain gives a speech at the Veterans of Foreign Wars headquarters in Kansas City; and Obama is down in Chicago before heading to DC.

She also lied about being for the Iraq war first in an incredibly humorous and embaressing fashion that was quickly debunked... msnbc didn't cover that yet but other stations did -- was it abc? Are you so ready to backburner it? I've been waiting all weekend to see you give it some lip service.

By the way, those stories are only shelved if you chose to shelve them.
WHY isn't anyone reporting on the fact that Hillary also misspoke this weekend when she tried to claim that she spoke out about Iraq BEFORE Barak.  This is insane!
http://weblogs.baltimoresun.com/news/politics/blog/2008/04/clinton_man_has_obama_moment.html

Ok - so now that Penn's gone, the Baltimore Sun is showing pictures of Clinton's campaign manager cheering for Obama??  Wow! That's GREAT!!! =-)

I think she's losing a lot of support, but I hope that we can resolve the primary and save money and resources for the Fall campaign. I will be voting for Obama because I agree with his views and appreciate the involvement he's brought about with voters like me.
The mainstream media has done nothing but nit-pick at Hillary and place her under a microscope, while allowing Obama to lie through his teeth constantly about a variety of subjects up to and including his relationship with indicted financeer Tony Rezko, and where he got the money to buy a house he couldn't afford.
I know this post will upset the ObamaNIACS on this board.
But it IS the TRUTH, and as we all know.....
Someone please explain to me how anyone could support Hillary Clinton for president.  She is a pathological liar and cannot even manage a political campaign, much less the government of the United States.  We also have the many scandals of the Bill Clinton administration, which will be revisited if Senator Clinton is our next President.

No thanks, Hillary.  You have enough to do, just trying to keep an eye on Bubba.

Obama in 2008.  Integrity matters and the Clintons have none.
I just heard the report of how Clinton's stump speech story about an uninsured woman who was refused medical treatment was just that - a story.

In Clinton's defense and unlike the Bosnia sniper lie, it was a case of laziness rather than lying. Reportedly the Clinton campaign did hear this story from someone in Ohio. They just never checked it out to see what the real facts were.

Not as bad as lying, but then we also have seen a pattern of laziness throughout. They never figured out the delegate counts before Feb 5. They never looked at varying caucus rules until just before the event, when it was too late to organize for it. They never planned for anything less than a knockout on Feb 5. They seemingly got caught by surprise with a spend plan (or lack of a plan) that exceeded their fundraising, though they've raised incredible amounts.

All in all, can the Clinton campaign be characterized as anything but lazy? Kind of contrasts with the "workhorse" image she pushes, huh?
If I was the lawyer for that hospital in Ohio, I would seriously be giving advice about how much of that $109 million they could get from the Clinton's in a slander and libel suit.  Again, Hillary caught in a lie, won't that woman ever stop lying about herself and others?

*** Busy Bill: The former president is in Puerto Rico today and, as usual these days, he has a very full schedule. As we've noted several times, the pace of Bill Clinton's schedule is amazing.

If you were having to defend your lying wife a lot these days, you would be busy too!

Hillary Clinton
A Liar for all seasons

Does anyone have any doubt that a H.Clinton Administration would be marked by CHAOS, not to mention inept appointments, cronyism, mismanagement, lies, deceit, and never admitting a mistake?

Haven't we had enough of that under Dubya?

Also - how can a thinking person accept that there wasn't some connection between Clinton and the Columbian trade deal?  The Columbians themselves stated they didn't know if Penn was representing the Clintons or not.

C'mon America, use your heads. Vote NO for this debacle in the making.

Obama '08
Can you imagine if one of Obama's advisors had done that?  He would have lost a primary.  Oh thats right, the Clintons put up an add in Ohio(which turned out wasnt true) saying that Obama's advisor went to Canada gave them the ole wink about Nafta.  It cost him Ohio.  Now lets see if the same thing happens when the tables are turned.  Oh, but this time its true.
demconwatch.org is reporting that Obama picked up another 4 SD add-on's (from DC, Delaware, North Dakota and Missouri IIRC).  Could you please verify?
To The Truth Hurts:
The post would only upset me if the facts you presented were credible whatsoever. The Rezko debacle was debunked two months ago by Bloomberg news. Obama did nothing illegal, and if he had, Clinton would have been all over it by now. Isn't there anything else you can find? Why keep beating the Rezko dead horse? If you want to talk about shady land deals, just ask the Clintons.
HRC also made a mistake saying that women did not have the right to vote in the 1916 election in MT that put the first woman, Rep. Rankin in Congress.  They had the right to vote in MT since 1914.

You're tired now, Hillary, it's time to quit before further embarassment......
This "misspeaking" is becoming a habit for Hillary. Why haven't you at MSNBC covered her bogus Iraq  claim? It is all over the other networks. Please start reporting this if you don't want us to start thinking you are showing a bias for Hillary. Thanks!
Don't tell me the latest Stupid Delegate went to the local preschool and was convienced by the toddlers that Barry Obama was the wright guy for the job. Ever notice that they never say that his position on the economy or health care is better? It might be that he ripped off all his ideas from Hillary.
Hillary's hospital story typifies exactly how many Democrats feel about her.

It was a great story that genuinely tugged at our heartstrings.

But it was a lie.  And this lie was employed to further the Clinton career.  I feel a little dirty for believing this story and worse for passing it on.

Perhaps it was an innocent mistake.  But now I remember that the Clintons don't let the truth get in the way of a good story.

It's part of the win-by-any-means process.  It's a short-sighted strategy that ultimately brings Hillary and her associates low.

This hospital story reminds me how I now regret voting for the Clintons in the 90's.
Folks still supporting Hillary: Are you not insulted by her lies?
Here's the Truth"the TRUTh hurt's", your girl is Not a misspeaker, SHE'S A FLAT OUT LIAR. You can't handle the TRUTH! So it does'nt upset any Barack supporter & probably will put more vote's in his column.
Now, when will Hillary step down ?   This is really becoming pathetic.  Yes Clinton supporters... we all know that Hillary has every 'right' to stay on ... just NO good reason at all.  What she is effectively saying Now is that she is willing to sacrifice the Democratic Party's chances in November to insure her leverage to petition for the VP slot.  That's pretty Sleazy politicking Clinton supporters and you know damn well it is. What does that make YOU at this point?
Mark Penn is still working for Hillary's campaign as a consultant, this was confirmed by her campaign. It is hard to believe that Hillary was not aware of Penn's involvement as his role was to push the Columbia Trade bill through Congress. This is a direct reflection of Hillary's integrity and honesty.
To "the Truth Hurts"...the only documented liar is Hillary Clinton, and that is on tape, so make up all you want, but the public sees who the habitual liar is and now it is showing in her poll numbers.  I would still support Hillary if she gets the nomination even though I am an Obama supporter, just because I am anti- Republican.  However, don't try to divert attention from who the real AND documented habitual liar is in this contest.
The Truth Hurts - Where did the Clintons get the money to buy that 12 MILLION dollar house in New York. They were supposedly broke when they left the White House. They "BORROWED" the money, from who? And why 12 million (back in the 90's) as compared to 3 million the Obama's spent. If you are broke you do not buy a 12 million anything.
Another Obama vote from Montana.

Great!

More to come.  Watch this space.
and yet another lie from hillary
In Eugene, Ore., Saturday. Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-N.Y., attempted to change the measure by which anyone might assess who criticized the Iraq war first, her or Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., by saying those keeping records should start in January 2005, when Obama joined the Senate. (A measure that conveniently avoids her October 2002 vote to authorize use of force against Iraq at a time that Obama was speaking out against the war.) She claimed that using that measure, she criticized the war in Iraq before Obama did.

But Clinton’s claim was false.

Clinton on Saturday told Oregonians, “when Sen. Obama came to the Senate he and I have voted exactly the same except for one vote. And that happens to be the facts. We both voted against early deadlines. I actually starting criticizing the war in Iraq before he did.”

It’s an odd way to measure opposition to the war — comparing who gave the first criticism of the war in Iraq starting in January 2005, ignoring Obama’s opposition to the war throughout 2003 and 2004. (And Clinton’s vote for it
I read all of this with interest.

I reached my tipping point with her a month ago.  I decided that my vote could never go to someone who employed the campaign tactics before Ohio and Texas.  I saw right through her then.  None of this surprises me.      The irony is, she stays in this in case Obama falters.  Yet he gains in strength (YES, the long campaign has sharpened him and allowed him to show the steep learning curve he has) yet she has made mistake after mistake after mistake in this long campaign.  So who is this long campaign helping?

I reached my tipping point with regard to her a month ago, yet I feel no joy in seeing her fall.

Obama 08
@ The Truth Hurts 9:37 AM

In re: Rezko
- Obama spent 90 minutes w/ the Chicago Sun Times and 90 minutes w/ the Chicago Herald Tribune - the two papers who know the Rezko story the best and the two papers who had been pressuring Obama on this story the longest.  He answered every question placed to him during these sessions by multiple reporters.  Both papers pronounced themselved satisfied with his answers and essentially said "there's no there there".  In addition, one of the papers (I forget which) said that Obama showed a level of transparency that the other candidates (meaning McCain and Clinton) should emulate.  This occured on the weekend he released his tax returns, and was in mid-March.  LOOK IT UP!

In re: money to buy the house.  This came from his book royalties.  In addition, he and his wife made several different offers for the house - negotiating with the seller (as is normally done).  Their final offer was accepted, as it was the highest offer made for the house.  All details about the purchase of the house, including information from the seller confirming that there was no "quid pro quo" with respect to the sidelot, is available on Obama's website.

Sorry Truth - I know it hurts, and I know you love to sling mud, but Obama is not a dirty politician. He's a heck of a lot cleaner than either McCain (Keating 5) or Clinton (Rose Law Firm)
Hil can hector Gen. Betrayus as much as she wants, but she still needs the delegates.  And does she think Obama is going to be absent, or even silent?  OBAMA WAS AGAINST THE WAR FROM THE BEGINNING!!  HE will no doubt have a thing or two to say to Betrayus too.
“I don’t think it’s useful to set a deadline because I think it sends a signal to the terrorists and the insurgents that they just have to wait us out,” she said
in February 2005.
these are her words people. how can you trust this woman she would say anything to win
The sad thing about Hillary's campaign is that, by all accounts, it still has support.  I struggle to understand the comments posted here and elsewhere which basically disregard her, her campaigns, her family's efforts in this contest.  Is her campaign not a reflection of how her husband came into power, how her husband governed, how she assisted in keeping him out of trouble - at all costs.

I agree that America is worth fighting for, but the fight for America has always been a sanctioned bout.  Hillary is fighting a contest with below the belt shots, double teaming, official tampering or basically trying to fix the fight.  Pollsters in PA should ask voters if they support the Clinton effort instead of sifting through the constant racial deflections of why they plan to vote against Barack.
Here is the URL for the blog spot about Clinton's attempt to recast herself as the first to oppose the war in Iraq.

http://blogs.abcnews.com/politicalpunch/2008/04/in-oregon-clint.html
I was lowering myself this morning to watch the Today Show.  They showed 2 incredibly nasty anti-Clinton snippets from Saturday Night Live. Viera (who on The View once called Bill Clinton a "dog") and Lauer were smirking as usual.  What is it about NBC and their Clinton-hating?  We Clinton supporters have got to promise to boycott NBC, Newsweek, Time, and the New York Times.  How much coverage was there of Saint Barack of the Inspired claiming that he was a Professor of Law when he was no such thing?
And what about her new stand on "disenfranching" voters:  she's against it in Michigan and Florida but apparently for it in North Dakota.  On Friday night, she flew to North Dakota to speak to a dinner of delegates chosen by the popular vote and requested they switch their support to her (reported by a number of news outlets--maybe ABC got to this one first?).  Seems as if this should be discussed more.
Why are they nitpicking every word out of Sen Clinton mouth? But obama makes a campaign ad "I never took lobbyist money" where he LIED. But obama says I only did five hours of work for rezko. LIED says he still friends after 17 years. But obama has the black panthers on his website. NOTHING from the media. But you pickup the obama campaign talking points everyday Clinton lied. Do your job MSM.
Is lying in American politics a holy thing to do? Does Hillary know how to compete with a little transparecy?
I find it odd that she would spend the weekend telling her supporters that she actually opposed the Iraq war before Obama did.

Typical Clinton rhetoric.

http://www.politivine.com
Angela, thanks for the pics....lol u made my day!  Hillary gracefully remove yourself from this race to the White House, u cant win...obviously your own campaign is catchin on, Hillary wont u join us?

Obama '08
Character counts
Integrity counts

What a mess! While the Republicans can attack Obama with the so-called Rev. Wright story, they can attack Hillary with the fake Bosnia story, the fake hospital story, the Clintons' previous run in the White House story and Hillary's inability to run a strong, well-funded campaign. At this rate, the Republicans may win the White House again--a frightening thought.
I am truly sorry, but what it all boils down to is "she got caught".  He was working for her, the subject matter should have been hush-hush, but it came out and I am happy.  She is the most dishonest candidate that the democratic party has presented in a long, long, time.  Yeah! she mispoke, she misheard, she misdirected.  She IS a big mistake.
"Truth," the post makes those of us who don't live in the land of denial wonder what you're talking about.  Here's the truth and it's something at some point you should consider:  the mainstream media's job is NOT to elect Hillary Clinton as President.  Nor is it to create an artificial perception that everything is a level playing field.   When HIllary Clinton is caught in lies, the media's responsibility is to report them.  If you can't handle that, you might want to go back and re-read your sign-on name.
how dou know he couldnt afford it dumy with 2.6 million dolars in 2 years, obvious u must be from south or went to a poor public school that didnt tecah you math, rez raise money for many democratic candididates what about bill real estate deal 15.2 million from guy he helped as prez, thats's corrupt, whiteatwre, vince foster, monica, commodties gate where she made over 100,000 in 79 come on clown, there was no fire in bosnia and no truth doesnt hurt he is  and will make his millions u will just SUCK!
Clinton is spiralling out of control. The public doesn't trust her & it's starting to seem like it's for good reason. It seems that despite her claims of being a very hands on micro manager, the truth is she just trusts her circle of loyalists. Nothing is vetted even after previous debacles. There is no unity in her campaign as illustrated by Penn's actions. And these taxes, though sanitized reveal some interesting business dealings. She really is like Rocky, Rocky lost.
Misspoke: Webster Definition
transitive verb
1 : to speak (as a word) incorrectly
2 : to express (oneself) imperfectly or incorrectly <claims now that he misspoke himself>
intransitive verb
: to speak incorrectly : misspeak oneself
Lie: Webster defintion: 1 : to make an untrue statement with intent to deceive
2 : to create a false or misleading impression
Now that we have defined Misspoke and Lie, Clinton lies by misspeaking about her recollection of the Bosnia trip, vote on Iraq War and the hospital story.  Hilliary, like Bill is a habitual liar, not misspeakers.
She is a DISASTER
Hill Supporters get a clue
She lies all the time, Bill has banked bigtime on his presidency, She still has not revealed her earmarks...

Do you like a Liar???

OBAMA 08
We've now reached the point where no matter what Hillary says or does, there's a block of 20-30% of the Democratic Party who are going to vote for her.   When facts come out that should clearly call into question the woman's judgment and readiness to be commander in chief, it's now labeled as "media bias" by this group.   Wow.
GO HILLARY !!!  We are ALL Looking forward to the day when obama is questioned on every comment - both he and Miss Michelle - she is a disgrace!  The media needs to start looking for negative comments the way they go after Hillary - it is just so biased.
Obama will not win due to his radical friends - his background & judgment are just far too questionable.
But - we are not susposed to remember Wright - of 20 years - because he gave a speech - right???? And the many, many miss-statements he has made.

GO HILLARY !
I feel sorry for Clinton, she seems to not not do her own investigation. She just takes what's given to her and run with it. Remember she said George Bush provided her with the information and she thought it to be true so she vote for the war. Now another man in her life told her how to run her compaign, she went for it, and now look, then this sheriff tells her this story about the pregnant woman and she runs with it, the list goes on and on. She has proven that she doesn't use sound judgement. If she was to recieve a 3:00 call how can you trust her to use sound judgement. The lady will lie and point fingers just to keep from admitting any wrong doing. There's no real substance to her. She's right when she say's shes transparent. That she is very transparent and liar, power hungry and money greedy from the heart. The people of America should demand that she steps down this is Embarrassing.
Dean in CT,
Just out of curiosity, what news outlets are the "accurate and non-biased" ones these days according to those watching the news with Hillary-colored glasses?  Just wondering what outlets I should check out.  I'd love to see which "objective" journalists ignore lies about Bosnia, tall tales about hospitals, chief strategists working for precisely the opposite of what the campaign says it stands for, etc, etc, etc.
I'm glad to see the last of Penn.  Felt this way weeks ago.

I don't think voters are concerned by the amount of money earned by the Clintons in 8 years.  They earned it.  Haven't the Obamas become millionaires at a much earlier age that the Clintons?? I applaud anyone who works hard for their money.  The Clintons left the White House owing 12 million in legal fees
defending themseves from the witch hunt and all the investigations that amounted to much to do about nothing.  That commission spent over 90 million
(I believe that is correct, if not it is close). Now that makes me mad.  What a waste of tax dollars.

Obama has told a ton of lies.  Check it out on:
           www.audacityofhyprocisy.com

Obama has said his Father was a freedom fighter when in fact he was part of one of the most corrupt & violent governments Kenya has ever had.  Obama was a board member at the Woods Fund. MIchelle Obama has taken over a quarter million from Treehouse with ties to Wal-Mart  Michelle's inflated salary at University of Chicage was increased by 150% after Obama became US Senator. He lied about being a professor (not) and the list goes on and on and on.
MSM just looks the other way.
I'm glad Penn is gone.  It's about time and I'll probably donate more money because of it.  He's been a poor strategist and a drag on the campaign.  On a second note, it's funny how biased towards Obama MSNBC is that they are vetting the stories Obama tells on the campaign trail like they do Hillary.  Obama's told stories about his parents ties to JFK and Martin Luther King that COULD NOT be true (and he knows it) but he continues to tell them because they make a good story.  Hillary tells a story that was told to her on the campaign trail about a waitress and you hang her out to dry.  I'm constantly sickened by how much Obama is being SHOVED down my throat.  IT makes me want to vomit.  I was open to voting for him (any dem) in the beginning but I will not vote for a phony.  HIllary, like her or not, has proven her worth but I can't say the same about Obama.  He's done nothing but run for President since being elected to the Senate.  If this guy gets the nomination you can guarantee McCain will win.  PERIOD!!!
