One of the reasons some VP candidates are considered for selection is that they would be a geographical help; they could carry a state the candidate at the top of the ticket might not necessarily win. But in Connecticut, ironically, Lieberman would actually hurt, not help, McCain's chances, according to a poll out today.
Thirty-one percent of Connecticuters (Connecticutans? Connecticotians? Connecticutensians? Nutmeggers?) say they'd be less likely to vote for McCain if Lieberman were on the ballot; 18% say they'd be more likely, a Research 2000 poll shows. The survey was commissioned by the liberal blog Daily Kos.
The poll also found that Lieberman has a net-negative rating among Democrats (40 fav/45 unfav) and trails overall to Ned Lamont, 51%-37% (74%-19% among Democrats, 53%-36% among independents; remember, Lieberman changed his affiliation to Independent and refers to himself as an Independent/Democrat, or I/D).
