PENNSYLVANIA (April 22): Here’s that new Quinnipiac poll, which shows Obama within six points of Clinton, 50%-44%.
Here we go again… Obama's getting big-time financial help from some of his supporting unions. SEIU is going in with an ad buy of just under a million dollars. Of course, SEIU jumped in on Obama's behalf in both Ohio and Texas. *** CORRECTION *** An SEIU spokesman tells First Read the money is for door-to-door canvassing, not ads.
INDIANA (May 6): Clinton is up with her first ad in the Hoosier State. It exclusively features Sen. Evan Bayh (D-IN) looking into the camera and offers testimony in support of the New York senator. Here’s the script:
BAYH: "America faces challenging times. We need a leader who'll fight for good jobs, change trade deals like NAFTA, cut taxes for middle-class families. Someone who's ready to be commander in chief from day one. That leader? Hillary Clinton. I've known Hillary for twenty years. She's got a spine of steel. She'll fight for our jobs, our troops, and the America we love. Strong. Seasoned. She'll always stand up for us." CLINTON: "I'm Hillary Clinton and I approved this message."
NORTH CAROLINA (May 6): What does it say about Obama's strength in North Carolina that both Dems running for governor (who will be sharing the ballot with Clinton AND Obama) have endorsed the Illinois senator. In fact, LG Beverly Perdue is appearing in mailers and making robo calls for Obama.
Per NBC/NJ's Carrie Dann, Michelle Obama makes her first trip to North Carolina today, with stops in Charlotte, Winston-Salem, and Raleigh. She's not hitting up the parts of the state that boast the highest military populations, like Fayetteville and the coast, but it's worth noting that -- in a state known for its high number of vets and proud flag-waving tradition -- her "proud of my country" remark comes up here a LOT. It will be interesting to see how much it is recycled in news coverage of her visit here.
