What’s Mike Huckabee up to?

Posted: Wednesday, April 09, 2008 10:44 AM by Domenico Montanaro

From NBC/NJ’s Matthew Berger
Mike Huckabee isn’t running for anything, but he has something planned for April 15.

Huckabee’s Web site -- which resembles his campaign site -- has a clock counting down the seconds until 12:00 p.m. EST on April 15. He is also scheduled to give a speech at Cornell University that evening called, “In God We Trust: The Role of Faith in Politics.”

“The First Amendment requires that expressions of faith be neither prohibited nor preferred,” Huckabee said in a Cornell press release announcing the lecture. “We should not banish religion from the public square, but should guarantee access to all voices and views. We should share and debate our faith, but never seek to impose it.”

Rumors of Huckabee’s next step have been swirling since he won the Iowa caucuses in January. Some have suggested he could play a leading role in galvanizing religious conservatives, or that he could launch a program around his Fair Tax proposal (his big rollout is on Tax Day). Others believe he may become a political commentator or host a television show. His name has also been mentioned as a running mate for McCain.

Huckabee’s daughter, Sarah, reiterated that the former Arkansas governor is not running for anything this year -- the filing deadline to run for Senate in his home state has passed -- and said the countdown is for the launch of Huckabee’s new Web site.

WHO CARES?
April 15 is tax day, and he was promoting a national sales tax over income tax. My guess is his event is oriented toward that issue.

And to think that the Republicans could have picked Mike but they chose the warmonger instead.
Even Mike Huckabee is thinking: "why is Hillary still in this thing?"
Hmm.... what's the Huckster up to?

I say that he's going to announce that he and Chuck Norris are going to go on a cross-country ass-kickin' spree.  Converting bad dudes into pure-hearted Christians.

Okay, maybe not - but it would be cool to see that announcement.

huckabee should run for dog catcher.
To quote The Dick...so?
Mike: read my lips, separation of church & state.

Amen. Thank you Mr. Huckabee.

Pulling for Obama '08

From the date of the speech and his previous involvement with FAIR Tax there shouldn't be any surprise if he's going on a major offensive for FAIR Tax, probably hoping to jumpstart another presidential bid.  Of course FAIR Tax is a fraud anyway http://www.factcheck.org/taxes/unspinning_the_fairtax.html so no wonder they call him the Huckster.
hey, guy pretending to be Thomas Jefferson,

maybe you misunderstand separation of church and state. simply put, its original intention was to protect the church from the state, not the other way around. but you're right, let's just forget about the reasons for our forefathers leaving england and coming to the new world, the same reasons that clause was put in the constitution in the first place.
Thomas Jefferson, Separation of Church and State was developed and argued and persuaded for inclusion by a Baptist minister. Read your history.
Mike is an ardent anti-IRS advocate.  I imagine that he is couting down something related to the FAIR TAX and will reflect that announcement to coincide with IRS-Tax day.
Oh pshaw,
Separation of church and state. This is why.
Yes, Huckabee, by all means, lets destroy the country and the world to promote your faith.
All you care about is abortion, gays, and guns.
The first two you are against and the last you are for. Go away! Religion belongs in the don't ask don't tell column.
