Hillary's laugh is back

Posted: Thursday, April 10, 2008 5:45 PM by Mark Murray

From NBC/NJ's Athena Jones
PITTSBURGH -- Clinton can't shake questions surrounding her stance on trade and her husband's differing views on the matter. Today, she responded with a hearty laugh -- the kind once criticized and mocked by pundits and the media.

During a nearly 20-minute press conference in Eastern Pennsylvania that touched on issues ranging from Iraq policy to what to do about Florida and Michigan, the senator laughed long and hard when asked whether Bill Clinton's receiving $800,000 for several speaking engagements from a group that supports the Colombia trade deal and the fact that she had given money to her campaign presented a conflict of interest.

After chuckling for five or six seconds, during which camera shutters could be heard clicking frantically, Clinton said "I mean, how many angels dance on the head of a pin? I have, I, I have, uh, I have  really, uh, nothing to, uh... I mean, how do you answer that? I am against the Colombia free trade Deal. It doesn't matter who talks to me. It doesn't matter any circumstances. I've been against it. I am against it. I will be against it absent the kind of changes in behavior that I have been calling for from the Colombian government to end the targeting of labor leaders."

When asked whether she would ignore the advice of the military when it came to fashioning her Iraq policy, the senator sought to remind the reporters present that it was the president who set the policy and she would change the policy.

"The president of United States sets the policy," she said. "Our military, and thankfully so, carries out the policy that is set. You ask the military for their best advice about how to implement the policy you have set. Remember, Harry Truman went to Korea to confront Gen. MacArthur. You know, we have a long history of presidents changing policy. I have been clear throughout this campaign that my assessment is there is no military solution and the testimony delivered this week in the Congress by Gen. Petraeus and admiral, Ambassador Crocker reinforced the assessment that I have made."

Clinton also criticized President Bush's Iraq speech today for continuing the same policy and hit McCain's plans for dealing with the mortgage crisis, calling them "half-measures." Both statements echoed the written statements her campaign sent out this morning.

The senator accused McCain and Obama of failing to show leadership on the issue of whether the president should boycott the Olympics opening ceremony in Beijing this summer, something she has called for and that McCain has also called for.

"Sen. McCain followed my lead again and I welcome him to that," she said. "It's unfortunate Sen. Obama hasn't come out for a freeze on home mortgages and hasn't agreed to take a stand on the opening ceremonies. A president has to take a stand. A president has to lead and Sen. McCain and Sen. Obama have not led on either issue."

Obama was asked about the issue yesterday but did not respond directly. He later stated that the US president should boycott the opening ceremony, if they Chinese don't start helping to stop the violence in Darfur or respect the rights of the Tibetan people.

Clinton also talked about Florida and Michigan, saying if that if the issue had to go to the credentials committee at the convention it would. "This is really up to the Democratic Party and the Democratic Party has to decide how it's going to handle the 2.3 million people who voted, Democrats who voted, so I don't think this is anywhere near close to a resolution yet."

She indicated she had not and would not suggest any resolution short of counting the votes. "We have not and we don't intend to. If it has to go to a credentials committee, it has to go to a credentials committee. That's what they're there for."

She said she didn't know why Obama didn't want there to be a revote in Michigan. "I think he would have done very well in Michigan, but he doesn't want the votes to count. Let's not, let's not mince words here. Sen. Obama has been very, very clear. Do not count those votes. Or come up with some kind of a resolution which disenfranchises people by taking away their right to have voted for whom they voted for and neither of those is acceptable to Michigan and Florida voters and I wouldn't agree with that either."

The problem, Hillary, the OBVIOUS conflict of interest, is that, as First Gentleman and former President, Bill Clinton is going to wield a tremendous amount of influence when he gets back into the White House.  I mean, if you can't see the conflict of interest when your HUSBAND is a -lobbyist for Colombia-, then WOW.
I can't wait for KO tonight, I know he will play this clip.
When is this loser clinton going to stop?  she should just quit now before McPain wins it before the election.
AH - HA - HAR - HAR -  HAR !!!

....Was that Chewbacka choking on something?
...Or is it the megalomaniac minimizing the truth with her attempt at laughter?

Gag.

Clinton = Economy

Obama = Black America
Stick a fork in her. She's done. She seems to have plenty of advice on what every one else should do but no responsibility for her or her lobbyist husband. Amazing! She can tell Pres Bush to not attend the Olympics, but her husband and her have always supported the free trade and favorite nation trading status of China. Come on. Put your money where your mouth is for a change. Speaking of change, although I have always trended Republican, even I can see that there is only one candidate for change. Not Bush III (McCain) or Clinton II.
She gets more boring everday.  BLA --BLA--BLAA.  You can't change the rules in the middle of the game.  Next it will be the super delegates that aren't fair. I can't believe I was going to vote for her in the beginning.
How about this for a laugh: It's amazing with the amount of money that Obama raises that he hasn't been able to wrap this up. I'm starting to think I wouldn't want this guy managing my tax dollars.

Interesting that even in this late stage of the primary that Hillary is still in it and Obama has not run away with the nomination. Obama needs to re-think his arrogance as he does not have the nomination and most certainly not the general election. He can't unite the party, he most certainly can't unite the country.

Go Democrats!
"Hillarious" may often diagree with her husband, but, I would bet that she did not disagree with the $800,000.00 that was deposited into their joint bank account.
The Clintons are playing their supporters like Chumps. Every one of the people that are supporting "THEM" deserve whatever they get. I wonder how the good people of Ohio feel about this. Would they have voted to keep this "Primary Death March" going if they had known that the Clintons were playing on both sides of the fence? How silly does she now look throwing that FAKE tantrum while waving that NAFTA flyer?

The Clintons are playing their supporters like Chumps. They asked me to tell you all to send more donations to pay off that college that they have owed $5,000.00 since January or February in CA before the bill collector starts calling... LMAOOOOOOOOOOO
Yeah, But your husband will take their money Hillary.  This is a serious conflict of interest and no laughing matter.  You demoted Penn! Are you going to demote your husband.  Or, perhaps, your laughing all the way to the bank.
Can you imagine hearing that laugh at 3:00am?

Phone conversation:
Speaker on phone: Madam President, Isreal has just been attacked by Iran, what should we do?
Hillary Clinton:
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH.... "I mean, how many angels dance on the head of a pin? I have, I, I have, uh, I have  really, uh, nothing to, uh... I mean, how do you answer that?

Good help us.
Why does hillary continue to open her mouth? Every single time she does a lie comes out of it..MICHIGAN AND FLORIDA BROKE THE RULES!! PERIOD!! Obama has no control on those votes. The micigan and floriday LEGISLATION DECIDED NO REVOTE!!! He followed the rules but yet he is the one getting blamed.

Also pennsylvania would be FOOLISH to vote for the 2 biggest crooks out there BILLARY. Her and her husband are BOUGHT AND SOLD with the biggest con artist/crooks out there and they have to PAYBACK all those lobbyist that they owe so they will do anything outside of having Obama killed (figure of speech)to get back in the white house, and the more I think about it I think he should beef up his security. He is a black man running for president trying to clean up the infested, corruption of washington by going after the crooked lobbyist, going against the clinton machine, bush croonies, the bank industry, the oil industry, the pharmaceutical industries. He has a uphill fight on his hands and if people don't wake up and see that he is for REGULAR people instead of the CROOKED CORPORATIONS we will have the same washington games being played at the expense of regular middle class folks.
This woman is amazing...she has more backbone and fortitude than either Obama or McCain. Thank you Madam President.
[The senator accused McCain and Obama of failing to show leadership on the issue of whether the president should boycott the Olympics opening ceremony in Beijing this summer, something she has called for and that McCain has also called for.]

"Not a bad way to change the subject, eh?"
--I wonder if she'll call herself a leader on this issue too, now.

**I think I deserve Props for that prediction.  And in 4 days time too!
Not to bring up the Rev. Wright issue again, but is this a double standard? How can they hold Obama accountable for something his EX-Pastor said, which he disagreed with, but not hold Hillary Clinton accountable for something her HUSBAND (a real family member) is doing, although she disagree with it. What Rev. Wright said, although it was wrong, only affects a select few. Bill Clinton agreeing to diminish jobs that we so desperately need, affects the majority of us, directly for people without jobs, or indirectly through the economy. They should cover this issue with the same publicity as they did with Rev. Wright.
Geez. Lay off the airbrush.
Does Hillary seriously think that she could laugh off such questions?? There clearly is a conflict of interest here.
What a suprise, another negitve story about Clinton.  Now its time for 5 or 6 positive Obama walks on water stories and you'll complete your usual pattern of fawning all day long MSNBC  For all the Obama supports that just love to run down Hillary and her supports.....your going to need our votes if he is the nominee so.....back off and quit behaving like children.
Republicans must be sitting cracking up at the continued ridiculousness of the Democratic nominating contest.

I mean just this afternoon we get a former president's irrelevant trip to meet with Hamas somehow spun as damning to a candidate he hasn't endorsed (oh sorry, he said nice things about him last week - they must be bosom buddies); and now we get the continued spin of another former president's attempt to maximize his post-presidential earnings as somehow damning to his wife.

Wake up Democrats! We're in for four more years of Bush-McCain if we keep this up.
Is that the answer of someone ready on day one? She is babbling! I know the question is tough and she'd rather avoid it but babbling?! Is that the best she can do, 35 years of experience and all? Hillary, if you can't stand the heat, get out of the kitchen and quit saying you are ready on they one.
It takes 2025 delegates to win the Dem nomination. The majority of the popular votes or the delegates does not matter. 2025 is the only thing that matters. Short of that, it depends on what happens at the convention. This nomination will be decided in the second round of voting by the delegates at the convention because neither candidate will have 2025 after the first round.

The big question is will the delegates from Florida and Michigan be able to vote in the second round. Seems like they should since all delegates are not bound by the primary results when voting in the second round at the convention. That is where Hillary could win the nomination and it would be a fair victory following the rules of the party. Obama has to win this nomination, not have it handed to him because he is in the lead now. 2025 and only 2025 delegates wins the nomination. If he can get that many then I will vote for him in Nov.
Once again, the Clinton hypocrisy is on full display.

Recall the end of February, when Clinton was campaigning in Ohio.  She took the CTV news report of Goolsbee meeting with the Canadian government and beat Obama over the head with it for almost a week, non-stop.

Obama's great sin?  Having his *unpaid* economic advisor saying something to the Canadian government that contradicted something Obama held publically - even though Goolsbee was called by the Canadian government independent of the Obama campaign.

Fast forward to now.  Her husband, former President Clinton, a PAID endorser for free trade with Colombia, holds a position that is diametrically opposed to her stated views.

This outspoken husband also has great political clout and will obviously be at least as involved in a third Clinton administration as Senator Clinton was in the first two Clinton administrations.

However, Senator Clinton tells us that HER situation is perfectly fine - because she opposes a trade pact with Colombia.

Naturally.  Of course.  And her word is absolutely golden.  No reason to question Senator Clinton, as she's fully vetted already.  "No conflict of interest to see here - please move on.  Ignore that philandering speechmaker behind the curtain."
Silly. can anyone imagine Bill telling Hillary what to do... especially when she is president? No one questions that Hillary has her own mind and strong convictions.

In the words of my 18-month old nephew; she's a do-do head.  LOL!

Unbelievable and she says it in that voice from hell generated from slightly clenched teeth and barely parted lips.  I can't believe I was going to vote for this woman.  The hypocrisy is thick you couldn't cut it with a buzz saw. Does she really believe it doesn't matter who she talks to?
Hillary,

The only thing I respond to is your laughter. It has become your 'tell'. (For those who don't know what a 'tell' is; it is a gesture, or tick that announces gaurded information, unconscienciously, or against one's will, while playing poker).

Hillary  laughed, and joked on Leno, about Bosnia. Now she's whooping with laughter about Bill, and CAFTA. There is wisdom in the searcher who 'follows the money'. Now we know we can also, 'wait, watch, and listen for her laughter'.

For those of us who support Senator Obama, we find his candor, and stammer appealing. He searches for the correct phrase to communicate his ideas. I appreciate how hard he tries to express himself succinctly. It is good he makes the effort to get it right.

Pulling for Obama '08

What about Mark Penn and Wolfson's views on the Colombian trade deal? Laugh that one off Hillary!
Hillary should be the first to take a positon on the democratic nominee for presidents by calling Barrack Obama--Mr. President
Ron,
That's pretty impressive.  I had not realized the writing on the wall - he really is a lobbyist for Columbia.

Its amazing how the media just let her get away with a laugh when asked about the 800k she took from columbia (joint return means joint ownership).
This is proving that Hillary is running for president not her husband.  She has shown that she is a stong person so I do not think as president she would defer to her husband.  Also I do not think Bill Clinton is a lobbyist per se.  There is no conflict for her.  Maybe Ron is able to browbeat his female associates but that is not the makeup of Hillary.
The problem is not the laugh (picking on that is petty).  The problem is the obvious conflict of interest.  We don't know where she stands because we can't rely on her word.  If her word were good, that'd be the end of the issue.  It's not so the question remains.
Hillary is not only one of the most corrupt politicians in history, she is also the most condescending.  At least Nixon had the decency to resign when his corruption was uncovered.  Not Hillary!  She decides she deserves to be President!  Maybe the White House has new furniture, and she thinks it would look nice in her New York home.  Maybe there are some more convicted criminals who promised her some campaign donations in exchange for pardons.

Why do people support someone like that?
In my marriage we share our finances. So if one of us gets money from doing work it goes to both of us. I wouldn't let my wife do anything I thought was unethical to earn money as she wouldn't me. I know spouses disagree on things, but this is more like turning the other way and pretending you didn't know where the money came from.
News Flash - Saint Hillary dances on the head of a needle.. I am against this and all NAFTA agreements . WINK WINK WINK WINK WINK WINK   Senator what is wrong do you have something in your EYES. Maybe some of that sand you and Billy have been kicking is landing back in your face.
Laughing is right, she needs to laugh as she will be handed her walking papers right after Indiana an Carolina....Trust
Do we really need more of the same? I mean, I am amazed at how some people have been blindly supporting HRC despite all these revealing flaws.
Will she be truely independent? Will her sense of objectivity not be clouded.
This is a serious conflict of interest.
She can either have Bill step aside or she should step aside. Though, I prefer the later option.
This entire piece should be labeled "Clinton Hypocrisy Redux".

How can she complain about Michigan (or Florida)?  Didn't she sign an agreement not to campaign or participate in either state?  Didn't she publicly say that "it's clear this election [Michigan is] having isn't going to count for anything"?

The only value for her keeping Michigan and Florida in the discussion is to have something to argue about at the convention.  She's better off having them unresolved than coming to some sort of a dispute.

For the sake of the party, I hope Obama can win NC and IN.  Then, he can just give her Florida, which would kill her argument about those two states.  (Michigan's primary has been ruled unconstitutional by the Michigan Supreme Court, so it will never count.)
I do not see anything funny here....I am still not laughing..........
The kind of laugh STILL criticized by the pundits and media.  I don't hear the media making fun of Obama's UH's like Letterman picked up on.  It's just another cheap shot, smear against the Clinton's  Your so-called COVERAGE of this campaign is not fair and balanced and is a disgrace.  Fortunately, enough people have stopped believing everything they see and hear and are thinking for themselves.
Bill Clinton is a paid lobbyist.

ha ha ha ha ha ha HA

Hillary/Bill have loaned HRC's campaign $5 MILLION

ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha HA

Bill Clinton is a PAID LOBBYIST !!

ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha HA

Oh, yeah, Hillary, that's a Good One !
If Obama can't see his own lie in his current ad that he doesn't accept "oil company donations" while oil company CEOs are bundling for him - then WOW.

Obama proved he'll say and do anything to win by LYING about his own father's connection to the Kennedy family - in order to obtain the Kennedy endorsement.  That's low - very low.

We marked off Obama late last year when we learned he is the ONLY candidate who doesn't think Bush and Cheney have committed impeachable offenses.
And yet - his supporters claim he's a DC "outsider" - LOL
Once again, there she goes -- complimenting McCain. Is this the kind of leader we should have -- one who'll without hesitation sell out a member of her own party? And, yes, I'd write the same thing if Obama made it a habit to compliment McCain at the expense of Sen. Clinton.
She sounds more desperate than Bill in a room full of interns.
Um.. maybe Obama doesn't want the Michigan votes counted because HIS NAME WASN'T ON THE BALLOT. Geez, this is beyond desperation now.
Is it just me or is boycotting only the Olympic's opening ceremonies one of the lamest and impotent political gestures in recent memory. If any of the candidates or other world leaders really cared about human rights in China, or Tibet, or in getting the Chinese to positively influence Darfur, they would  call for a boycott of the Olympic GAMES, not the 3 hour opening ceremony. But they don't. Why? Because we can't afford to offend the Chinese too much because they own our country and are about the only thing propping up our economy. So let's be real about that. Clinton's criticism of Obama and McCain on this issue is just more desperate posturing on her part.
Any one can lobby or try to have there ideas made but it doesnt mean Hillary or any pres. has to accept that as theres. She said how she felt, has felt and will feel. How more clear can she be. I am sure Pres Clinton knows what he can and cannot do.Obama now comes out calling for another stimulas package. He is so behind, Hillary did this a week or so ago but thats how he operates. Copy is all he knows.I believe Pres Clinton respects his wifes decisions. We cannt blame Obama for things his wife has done or can we?She sat on a board that supplied Wal-mart.We still dont know if she recused herself when deviding her new house came into the office of the board she was on.Good to see ya laugh Hillary keep it up
The fact is that Obama CAN'T put Clinton away. She has been hanging on and getting a little closer to the Democratic nomination everyday.

Obama has raised over 200 million and outspending Clinton in EVERY state and he still can't put her away. After all the millions  he has overspent her by . He only has a 130 delegate lead and just 700,000 votes lead.

Clinton 08

Heh. Heh.

Heh.
GET OVER IT!!! Michigan and Florida didn't follow the rules so they're votes don't count....something they were well aware when they broke the rules to begin with. It wasn't OBAMA's desicion for a re-vote, THE STATES THEMSELVES VOTED NO to it.

And who cares about the olympics!!....if you really have a problem with the chinese government then MAYBE WE SHOUDLNT BE DOING SO MUCH BUSINESS WITH THEM!!! Not going to the olympic ceremony is stupid when we have such aclose and huge business relationship with them.
OBAMA HASN'T COMMENTED ON THE OLYMPICS BECAUSE IT IS A TRIVIAL ISSUE COMPARED TO MORE IMPORTANT THINGS!
Oh my God ... I think I have a Clinton overdose.
I just can't take it anymore.
Somebody please make her stop .. please
