Clinton attacks Obama on air

Posted: Monday, April 14, 2008 6:30 PM by Domenico Montanaro

From NBC's Domenico Montanaro
Clinton has taken her attacks on Obama over the "bitter" remark to the next level. In a TV ad released tonight, Clinton features Pennsylvanians "insulted" by Obama's comments that rural voters "cling to" guns and religion because of their economic status.

Here's the script:
CLINTON: I'm Hillary Clinton and I approve this message.

ANNCR: Barack Obama said that people in small towns "cling to guns or religion...as a way to explain their frustrations..."

Woman 1:  I was very insulted by Barack Obama.

Man 1:  It just shows how out of touch Barack Obama is.

Woman 2:  I'm not clinging to my faith out of frustration and bitterness.  I find that my faith is very uplifting.

Man 2:  The good people of Pennsylvania deserve a lot better than what Barack Obama said.

Woman 1:  Hillary does understand the citizens of Pennsylvania better.

Woman 3:  Hillary Clinton has been fighting for people like us her whole life.

This is absolutely ridiculous.  It's clear Hillary has nothing else to jump on.  I actually think this will HELP him in Pennsylvania...
Clinton is disgusting. She's a liar, and she twists everyone's words. She makes me want to vote Republican for the first time in my life.

Why does the press discuss this crap but never cover Whitewater?
If Hillary Clinton manages somehow to steal this election from the people by lying, cheating, and arm twisting of Super delegates, I will be leaving the party.
She really is clinging onto anything she can get isn't she.
Wow, it's amazing with the amount of money Obama raises that he hasn't been able to wrap this up. I'm starting to think I wouldn't want this guy managing my tax dollars. PA, NC, and IN should pick Hillary.

Interesting that even in this late stage of the primary that Hillary is still in it and Obama has not run away with the nomination. Obama needs to re-think his arrogance as he does not have the nomination and most certainly not the general election. He can't unite the party, he most certainly can't unite the country.
HILLARY CLINTON IS A LIAR.  She going to eat her BITTER LYING words on this one.  She is so busy trying to stir up hate and divisiveness EVERYWHERE she goes.  She has never once offered any insight or REAL SOLUTIONS FOR CHANGE into what working folks are going through with high food prices, gas, home heating oil. She is absolutely disgusting.
The shark has been jumped.

Obama will respond with a level-headed ad.  Then superdelegates will endorse him later in the week.  Hillary will be remembered, more than anything else, for her inability to act rightly when the pressure is on.  She was only good when her success was 'inevitable'.

The end.
What the Obama supporters fail to realize is that Sen. Obama has received 10.8 million votes and Sen. Clinton has received 10.2 million votes. That leaves a difference of less than 4%.

Should Obama win the Democratic nomination, do the pro-Obama supporters think that we who happen to support Sen. Clinton would be interested at all in backing a man whose surrogates fill these blogs with vitriolic mud-slinging and down-right hatred for Hillary Clinton?

Sen. Clinton is not the Huckabee of the Democratic nomination process...she has received over 10 million votes from the American people. If you were to give to Clinton even 25% of the total votes Obama has received from the African-American people, Hillary would be ahead in the popular vote and way ahead in pledged delegates.

My point? This race is closer than you Obama-supporters seem to realize. Are you sure you want to continue to alienate 10+ million Democrats? So fare, you're doing a good job of it.
Sweet!!! Hit them hard, Hillary.

Go Hillary 08.
This is disgusting.

I've voted Democrat 99% of the time, and if Hillary is the nominee she’ll fall in with the 1% of Democrats I will not vote for.

Tell me what you’ll do to fix health care, the economy, the war, taxes – not why I shouldn’t vote for the other guy.

Utterly disgusting.
This is disgusting. I thought nothing more would surprise me about Clinton's deeply disturbing behavior, but I am indeed surprised. Can you imagine a DEMOCRAT knee-capping another DEMOCRAT like this? I expected her to try something before the Penn primary, but ads like this go WAAAAAYYYY over the line. The Clinton campaign will go down in infamy. I hope this sinks Hillary Clinton's candidacy and proves to the American people what an untrustworthy individual she is, so she will never again be a viable candidate for elected office in our beloved country.
First the kitchen sink, now the toilet.  Hillary will not quit until she has sacrificed every last ounce of dignity.
My hillary is this all you've got?Hillary this is not 1992,voters are much more sofisticated then you and bill believe so please try and stick to the issues please thanks.
The Clinton campaign is going right back to the padded resume to try and capitolize on the miscronstrued meaning of Barak's comment.  I don't believe that the general population will buy their snake oil!
Hillary has all the right in the world to question Obama.   When Obama spewed his condescending remarks to all those millionaires in San Francisco he directly accused the Clinton administration for "small town folks" clinging to religion and guns.  If  he accuses the Clinton years as the reason for their bitterness then why shouldn’t Hillary strike back?  WHY?  She kept quiet when the Wright controversy erupted.  She made only one comment. "Wright would not be my pastor."  That was it.  But this "bitter/clinging" issue is pure politics, it’s about policy, honesty.  Its goes straight to the reason why democrats have lost the last two elections.  It is fair to argue Obama’s condescension to the small town folk because it goes directly to issues like religion, xenophobia, gun ownership and culture.
This witch!!!! If she gets the nomination, I will have to move to Canada. She has probably paid someone to follow him around every minute just hoping to catch him make a mistake. The Huffington Post is a liberal rag, so we cannot blame this one on the Republicans. Adam, I wish I could agree with you, but the polls say that the Penns are lapping this up ,just like she hoped. She has a 20 point lead in Penn today and all the polls show that McCain can beat him now. Guess  people forgot that she is a pathological liar and her husband is a GREAT role model for young males!!
The thing is, Obama said these statements at a "closed to the press"  private meeting in California to a

bunch of rich Obama fund raisers.

Obama hadn't a clue that one person had a recorder and was taping him.

Obama true colors just came through.

The puzzle that is Barack Obama is slowly being put together...

Rezco and the amount of money contributed to Obama.

Obama's friend U.S. Terrorist William Ayers and Dorn.

Racist Rev Wright  "God Dam" American"    "America is responsible for the 9-11 attacks & America's chickens are coming home to roost."     "America gave the aides virus to the black people"  "Praises Louise Farrakhan who is the leader of the Nation of Islam"

Rev. Moss,  Obama's new Pastor who is a carbon copy of Wright.

Obama's all black anti American church he has attended for 20 years.

The New Black Panther Party

Al Sharpton

Michelle Obama,  "America is mean,  I have never in my adult life been proud to be an American"

Obama ( last night) I want to bring Christianity and Islam together"

Obama...typical white people comment

OBama:  People in small towns cling to their guns and religion, they are racists agains people who aren't like them,  they are against immigrants, because they ar bitter.

Obama:  I never heard my Pastor say those things.....I wasn't there when some of those things were said........Yes I was there when some of things were said.

Obama's Pastor traveled to Libia with Louis Farrakhan  and met with Terrorsist Khadaffi

Obama wants to meet with terrorists, now he is sending Carter to meet with Hamas.

Obama's friend and supporter Louis Farrakhan who hates white people, Jewish people and I quote from Rev Wright, " garlic noses" Italians.

Rev Wright told Obama,  When the Jews find out I went to Libia with Farrakhan, their support of you will dry up like a snowball in hell.

Barrack Hussain Obama.....this is the man some of you want to be President of the United States of America??
I find it ironic that a woman who will not talk much about her faith is using a comment like this against Senator Obama.  I agree with Adam from CA, it appears from local editorials in PA and the response to her comments about Obama in her speech at the American Manafacturing group, as well as undecided polls that this has backfired on her.  He is picking up support by it.  She is her own worst enemy.  People all over are angry and bitter about government as usual, and regardless of what you think of the comments, voters are not looking for spin about words but actual policy debate on the economy and jobs. give her enough rope and she will hang herself again, and again, and....
I think she just handed Pennsylvania to Obama.

The "good people of Pennsylvania" will see right through this pathetic, desperate manipulation of Obama's words vs. his actual feelings.  Even Ed Rendell said today this is no big deal - I guess the campaign didn't clue him in on time.
SHAME ON YOU HILLARY!!!!! Since you can't win go ahead and destroy the party.
I work with several clients for IT issues that do business and live in Westmoreland County (about 20 minutes east of Pittsburgh, and very much small-town PA) and southern Allegheny County (also small-town).

Every single one of these people is a small-business owner.  Business machines, accounting, barter groups, pool tables, printer, radio - these folks do a wide range of work.

I've worked with them since I moved here in 2002.  Every single one of them has seen their business decline as the population shifts out of Pittsburgh and more in to south central and south eastern PA.  They've seen business close and the cost of doing business go up (whether it be airtime, gas, wood, slate, fasteners, whatever).

When they talk to me about the economy, they're not happy.  They're resilient, but they're not under the impression that things are good - or that anyone gives a damn about making them better.

These folks are angry, they're fed up with our "top-down" government.  They're...well...bitter.

There are things with which Hillary Clinton can make hay concerning Barack Obama.  She may, however, want to not press this topic too far.  Trying to sell herself as a gun-wielding, Bible-thumping Midwestern girl at heart probably won't play well when contrasted with her upper-middle-class hometown, Wellesley and Yale degrees, and her ultra-connected family.

As for John McCain?  Well, let's just say that a man whose first three responses to the subprime mortgage crisis could be summed up as, "Dear Homeowners: Drop Dead", is unlikely to be seen as someone with the "common touch" - especially when you consider that he and his wife are worth well upwards of $100 million.
It's not surprising, then, they get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren't like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations." These were Barack Obama's remarks. They echo the best social scientific explanations of gun violence in America. They repeat some of former Republican Senator Danforth's vies on Faith and Politics.  They recall former President Carter's Our Endangered Values on how the religious right misunderstands the relationship between faith and politics. Instead of recognizing that Senator Obama represents a totally new breed of politician, a politician that is on the intellectual cutting edge of social studies,  Senators Clinton and McCain, and the GOP media resort to personal mud-slinging. Obama is an "elitist," a "crude Marxist," "arrogant," and "out of touch," attacking Obama's status rather than addressing what is being said, and the Clintons made over $100 mil over the last seven years. I understand your frustration, Obama was saying.  I understand why some of you choose ineffective ways to release your bitterness.  Genuine therapy can come from political involvement for social change.  Intelligent observers would consider the evidence supporting Obama's comments: (1) armed vigilantes patrolling the U.S.-Mexican border and confronting "illegals;" (2) support for law enforcement stop-and-question policy toward Hispanic-looking persons; (3) the rise in expressions of anti-Muslim sentiments and physical attacks on Muslims and Mosques; (4)a significant increase in religiosity, in tandem with worsening economic circumstances; and (5) the National Rifle Asssociation's admission that its membership is enjoying an unprecedented growth. The Clinton and McCain's responses to Obama's remarks are blatantly dishonest and uninformed. This nation cannot afford to have any of these two individuals in the White House, especially after 8 years of blunders, lies, and mis-statements from George Bush.  God, President Bush said, told him to invade Iraq. He was re-elected in 2004, despite wasting thousands of lives in Iraq. This nation needs a thinking President, one that is courageous enough to offer an explanation of our behavior that does not pander to self-righteousness. In light of all this, Senator Obama should cease apologizing for his words and ask America's voters to search their hearts and examine the evidence for what he said. Voters should show Senators Clinton and McCain and the misguided media that they are not taken in by personal attacks on Obama by voting for him.
Hillary's jumped the shark and what's more she's playing right into Obama's strength.  It's politics rule number one.  Never make an attack when the counterattack's a stronger position.  She gets to look like a whining loser while he gets to respond and look presidential.
It is good they will debate here in Pa., before we vote in the primary. I have no doubt, this smear campaign just like the others, will turn in Barack's favor, because he spoke the truth.
Funny how MSNBC News decried Obama for calling Hillary Shameless. Remember she called him this in the Ohio run up.

I would call her an opportuntist who cares only for herself and not the party I would never call her Shameless.
News from Next Wednesday:

HILLARY POLLUTES OBAMA'S BLUE SKY
This (next Wednesday) morning at a meet and greet at the Back 40 Restaurant in Decatur, Indiana, where former President Bill Clinton was Monday night, Obama commented on the "gorgeous blue sky here in Decatur" and commiserated with locals on their spate of late winter in Decatur.
Meanwhile, Democratic challenger Hillary Clinton, in rainy Harrisburg, Pennsylvania immediately charged Obama with a "blue sky" mentality, preaching "a blue sky program for the future of America," and pointing to the thunderheads menacing above her, proclaimed, "I am ready to deal with the storms, the lightning, the thunder, that is day-to-day life in America while my opponent is waxing poetic on "blue skies."
Those attending the event found stickers applied to their bumpers in the parking lot with the epigrammatic proclamation, BLUE SKIES ARE FOR SISSIES.
Obama shot back later in the day :"Nannie, nannie, boo boo!"

Meanwhile in TODAY's news, Hillary reaches her all-time low of 40% support among Democrats.

As already reported here (see above advance release quote) and as Senator Obama will say so eloquently next Wednesday: NANNIE, NANNIE, BOO BOO!

So's your mama!
Thank goodness Rachel Maddow who we just watched on MSNBC actually gets it.  It's amazing how the media jumps on a word and ignores the meaning of a statement then makes it into a 30 second sound bite. However, they expect us to completely ignore LIES told about Bosnia.  So much for ethics, honesty, trustworthy.  Americans are not stupid apparently the Clinton campaign thinks we are more concerned about Sen. Clinton portraying herself to be something other than that $110M dollare person with not 1 but 2 mansions that we would be foolish enough to think that she's one of us.  I agree this is absolutely ridiculous.  Americans are sick and tired of the distractions by politicians like Sen. Clinton who have been sitting in Washington doing absolutely nothing and now want us to promote them for Poor Performance.  Not this time we will vote on what affects us this awful economy not some word match Sen. Clinton is having to play catch up in the election.  I was for Sen. Clinton but she has not only turned me off but many I know and completely destroyed the Democratic Party dragging in VP Al Gore and Sen. Kerry as if she is better than them Sen. Obama and anyone who has not won the Presidency as a Democrat.  Shame on Sen. Clinton.  Let's hope the DNC has the courage to put a stop to this before the party is completely destroyed.  Every time she opens her mouth and aligns herself with the RNC she assures an RNC victory.
for the love of god, guns, and whiskey......somebody take her out.
I hope this doesn't help him anywhere!  His is arrogant and I'm glad it's finally coming out how he really feels.

The fact that this was said behined closed doors at a private fundraiser for elite Democrats should tell you everything....
I am a 72 year old white woman.  I started out being for Hillary but the more I heard from Obama the better I liked him.  The more I hear from Hillary the less I like her.  It would be nice to have the first woman president but not the worst woman nominee.  Her willingness to win at all costs and to destroy the Decomcrats chances of winning in November is really disgusting.  I no longer have any respect for her.
GO HILLARY !!!
OBAMA IS ARROGANT !!!
IF This were reversed - obama group would never, never let it go.  The MEDIA is pushing this - why not Hillary???????  Obama has said very mean, negative comments about the Clintons!
SADDLE UP!!!!!
Well Senator Obama how are you going to handled that...

Are you going to allow this calulating Witch to run the show. I am pretty sure you will find enough voters who would say the exact opposite.... So what are you going to do.
And how did these Pennsylvania voters hear about these supposedly insulting statements?

And whose interest does it serve that they think that?

Certainly not the Democrats, and certainly not these people themselves if Hillary manages to poison the well for Obama, who is STILL the likely nominee.

Hillary Clinton couldn't be more selfish.

Wake up, people. This is a media story, bought and paid for with money that came from Columbia.
Have to agree with Adam Kontras that this could help Obama.  People in PA are not idiots.  They can see this for what it is.
woow, how low can u get, she is worse than Republicans....she is the demeaning one, thinking Americans will be stupid enough to fall for this crap once again (I hope not). Anyone with an average IQ will see thru this and be disgusted. This thing can come back to bite her a** big time... she has lost all notion of class n credibility throughout this campaign. what a sham. Democrats all over should be ashamed of these antics.

a nice wirte up on the whole overblown "bitter" issue.
http://www.skewlbuoy.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1117&page=2
Were those REALLY Pennsylvanians or were they actors?  Be interesting to know.
As a Union man (UTU) for over 30 year's now,I would suspect that other union men & women would be Bitter.Technology brought Train crew member's down from 5 when I started riding trains to 2 member's now & even now, some Yard trains are run with a hand held box.Technology can Not be blamed as the only reason for job Losses, but also the Fact that more reliance was placed on the remaining member to do all the work that several Train member's used to do.I'm sure this is the case of other Union's(UAW,AFL-CIO,SEIU)also, plus Non-Union working class people as well.

Bitter is being overstated by the MSM & it's encouraging that USA Today has'nt found many who don't beleive Barack's remark. At this point, Hillary & her bunch of Illiterates will Cling to anything that may seem to be a Negative for Barack. That's All they have left to Cling to! This woman (Hillary) has taken the  women's movement back 30-40 year's singlehandily. Thankfully, after a lot of Politicking from me, my 55 year old sister & 77 year old Mom in Virginia told me, they did'nt Lose their vote back in Feb-2008.

Pa. voter, You were'nt gonna vote for Barack anyways, so you can stop the BS.This is the case with many voter's, but thankfully, they are Outnumbered this time around.American's are Not gonna be blindsided by the typical Politician in this silly season.Whether you like it or not, Barack has brought the TRuth to the forefront & Common sense American's are respectfully listening.

Thank You American Voter!
This is what Obama was referring to about Clinging:

Romans 12:9: Let love be without hypocrisy. Abhor what is evil; CLING to what is good.

I think the good people of PA are going to abhor Senator Clinton on this issue.
Clinton would fix husband's NAFTA mistakes
Says the former president is smart, but he does make mistakes

This story is just out.  Sen. Clinton will throw anyone under the bus.  Including the American people as she has done for the many years that she's been in office.  She had plenty of time to PREVENT our current recession, this happened on her and McCain's watch.  Sorry we are not planning to promote these two for Poor Performance.  We get it and we refuse to be distracted and divided any longer.  We are focused on the issues not this political game Sen.Clinton is playing.
lol, so much for issues
For serious?
she's losing it. She is getting so over the top. What a republican she is. How she thinks democrats are gonna go for this I don't know. She is just cementing any last chances she may have had of at least this person voting for her. Vomit vomit vomit.
I wish you could hear Hillary's background narration onin her new ad. She sounds stilted, and unsure of what she's reading. She sounds like she just learned how to read. No passion at all. She sounds like the phony she is.
Why doens't someone ask where Hillary really grew up.  It certainly wasn't a poor small town.  She was raised in Park Ridge, Illinois, a very affluent suburb of Chicago.  She was a governor's wife and then the First Lady, and now has over $100 million in her bank account.  If anyone is out of touch of middle class Americans, it's her.
Unless Americans in the remaining primaries use their votes to let Clinton know just how transparent her attempts to manipulate the electorate are, she and every other scum bag lying politician will no there are no bounds and there are no depths that cannot be wallowed in as long as it will win an election.
Everyone can see right through this. Hillary give it up. We are tired of your low blows. We want to believe in the possiblity of change and hope. We need someone who has uplifting message. Not your in the gutter remarks.
ARGH!!!! THIS is how we ended up with BUSH for EIGHT years - because people vote on stuff like THIS.

You know, if Hillary's ad works and her poll numbers go up - it will prove the point against which she claims to be railing (and, I would argue it is absolutely NOT the point Obama was making). It will prove that people are not sophisticated enough to vote on the issues. Hillary is the elitist here.

That said, I have more respect for the people of Pennsylvania than to think that they will fall for this ridiculous nonsense.

Hillary needs to stick to telling people why they should vote for her rather than why they should NOT vote for Obama.
Hell if I lost my livelyhood due to NAFTA,  I'd be more than bitter, I'd be down right P.O.'ed!!!

These antics are constitued out of desperation. I wonder if she beleives that the good folks of PA are naïve enough to believe the hype.

PA take all she says with a vat of salt and please think long and hard befor punching your vote!!

This is a bad idea.
So, what is victory for BHO in PA? Lose by "only" 15% or so? BHO is certainly a man of the people.
