Another super, plus The Boss

Posted: Wednesday, April 16, 2008 10:17 AM by Domenico Montanaro

From NBC's Domenico Montanaro
Obama picked up another superdelegate, Rep. Andre Carson, further narrowing the gap with Clinton. The superdelegate count now stands at Clinton 259, Obama 232. In the overall count, Obama leads by 137 (1,648-1,511). He has a 164 pledged-delegate lead (1,416-1,252).

Carson, one of two Muslim members of Congress (both backing Obama), won a special election to replace his late grandmother Julia Carson.

And... while he's not a superdelegate, Obama also got the backing of The Boss, Bruce Springsteen. Maybe it'll help on the "Streets of Philadelphia." (We just can't help ourselves.)

NBC's Abby Livingston adds that Clinton has been playing Springsteen's "The Rising." Wonder if that will end soon. Remember that John Mellencamp asked McCain to stop using his songs at rallies since he was backing Edwards and is sympathetic to Democratic causes.

Montanaro,

Why is it necessary to point out Carson's religious affiliation--or the fact that two of Sen. Obama's supporters are of Muslim faith?  Are you going to report on the religious backgrounds of supporters for all candidates, or only those who support Obama?  In the absence of such equity, your report is nothing more than shameful agenda setting.  Please help me understand the relevance.  By the way, I have no religion that I claim as my own.
Obama is a FAKE, PHONEY, FRAUD!
Go away Lynn.  Stacked up against the Clintons, Obama's negatives are quite small.  That's all you got? Bring it.
The two endorsements are great...the Super Delegates know what time of day it is and apparently so does the BOSS. With Clintons popularity deteriorating and Obama gaining another momentum run, this should be a rap pretty soon. I hope that Obama wins PA as it would shut Clinton down...even Bill is begging for money so they can continue to save their $109 million.  I think more endorsements will come very soon, probably after tonights debate.

Lynne, do us a favor and go play with your daddy's gun
Lynne, LR,AR.
They posted your comment, I suppose you are going to apologize to MSNBC for your ill fated attempt at humor.  You already have a negative view of the senator from Illinois and people like you are not going to vote for him anyway, no matter what.  Get over yourself, you are not the only one, there are millions of people in AMERICA just like you who just don't care and don't vote in their best interest.  Instead of voting for your interest you find any excuse to say "I didn't vote for him/she because...."
We get it, Rezko is a scum bag, reverend Wright is wrong, but that does not define the senator.  That's like saying Clinton is really pro NAFTA and Columbia Free Trade agreement because of her association with Mr. Penn... get it..  Enough is Enough.
Who cares if Dave Matthews (South Africa) and Elton John (UK) are supporting Obama and Clinton. They aren't even Americans, they don't count in our elections. They shouldn't even be allowed to raise money for the candidates.
MY HOMETOWN
Bruce SPringsteen

I was eight years old and running with a dime in my hand
Into the bus stop to pick up a paper for my old man
I'd sit on his lap in that big old Buick and steer as we drove through town
He'd tousle my hair and say son take a good look around this is your hometown
This is your hometown
This is your hometown
This is your hometown

In '65 tension was running high at my high school
There was a lot of fights between the black and white
There was nothing you could do
Two cars at a light on a Saturday night in the back seat there was a gun
Words were passed in a shotgun blast
Troubled times had come to my hometown
My hometown
My hometown
My hometown

Now Main Street's whitewashed windows and vacant stores
Seems like there ain't nobody wants to come down here no more
They're closing down the textile mill across the railroad tracks
Foreman says these jobs are going boys and they ain't coming back to your hometown
Your hometown
Your hometown
Your hometown

Last night me and Kate we laid in bed
talking about getting out
Packing up our bags maybe heading south
I'm thirty-five we got a boy of our own now
Last night I sat him up behind the wheel and said son take a good look around
This is your hometown

GO OBAMA!!!!
Oh, poor lemon sucking Lynne.

Obama will be the next POTUS.  Bottom line.
FYI - Rezko, no news/Ayers (40 years ago)
What kind of cheese do you need to go with your WHINE?

Get over it sweetie.  Get ready for a new America.
well maybe the muslims are comeing out for Obama now that he finally admits to his muslim schooling. You know the one everyone yelled hate mongering and fear mongering when he was asked about his muslim heratage. I said than and will now it wasnt the muslim background it was his lieing about it till he had all under his spell. A lie is a lie. Why would he lie about that but cannt close relationship with pastor Wright?Muslims for politics are helping him with much monies and other help. I have given MuslimBridges.org as a sourse to find Obamas muslim ties no one wanted to bother. Easier to call names bigot etc.Well look into it now there is to much we dont know.
"You don't post my comments because I tell the truth, you only post those that gush out how great Obama is, how is that for fairness in a country of free speech and Democracy?"

And yet, there is your screed for all to see.  Why is it that you think Chuck wants Obama?  He is reporting, not creating the news.
Dear Lynne from Little Rock, AR,

If you even started to add up all of the questionable relationships, hushed affiliations and negative associations Hillary and her husband have had and STILL have throughout their history and today, you could fill up a landfill with shredded documents. Barack Obama's positives FAR outway the negatives he has. Not to mention the fact that Hillary can't beat McCain. He'd win on character and integrity alone against her.
Where would I find the endorsement from Bruce Springsteen?  MSNBC didn't provide it anywhere I could find.......
Yesterday, I wrote a large pro Hillary piece on another comment forum and the piece was picked up by (I think) a virus and deleted. They message I got back was "Slow down, why write so fast".

At that point I just let it go from my mind. But today I see about 90% Pro Obama/anti Hillary posts and have to wonder if it is the virus self selecting posts. I say this because I generally read comments every day and usually see somewhere around a 50/50 ratio.

This would vary by article, but today on almost all sites I'm seeing about 90% pro Obama/anti Hillary. Just thought I'ld mention it.
Lynne, The preponderance of evidence (personal style, campaign style, message, life story, financial ties, etc., etc.) favor one candidate above all else.  Sure, we can all find a fault or two with each person.  Last I checked, there hasn't been a perfect human for over 2000 years.  So, while some of the criticisms need to be discussed (like Mr Springsteen points out) we should put them in the context of everything else.  Peace.
p,ca prob why he was in ca raising money from oil man and had closed session.oops those darn video phones are a nuience right? He said himself other a little about his islam teaching. I read while ago the most beautiful thing to him is to hear call to friday night prayers at sunset.I would be proud of that why isnt he?
Lynne - At your suggestion I went to the Chicago Sun Times websites and looked for articles on the Auchi connection. Here are some quotes I found there:

"It doesn't connect Auchi to Obama.

The biggest problem for me is that the testimony comes from Stuart Levine, whose testimony the Government has purchased with promises of leniency for his own misdeeds.

It was previously reported that details of fundraisers Rezko held at his Williammette Mansion would come up at trial. The fundraiser Rezko held for Obama was in 2003. Did the then-drug addled Levine get his dates and parties mixed up? Wouldn't surprise me.

I continue to believe and want to stress again there is no suggestion here that Obama did anything wrong or illegal in his dealings with Rezko"

Thanks for helping me understand that's there absolutely nothing to those charges. Good job clearing that up!
Chuck (or other authority on the matter)
question on delegate count - do the numbers as typically presented include the pledged and super delegates from florida and michigan?  shouldn't that be broken out or at least clearly indicated that the count does or does not include these delegates that (most likely) won't be seated?  if included, doesn't the count underestimate obama's true lead in delegates? and if excluded doesn't it underestimate how close hillary really is if some kind of deal can be brokered on the fl and mi delegates?
Lynne in Ar get over it Silly Hillie is defeated and by a better candidate.  If she was running against someone more like herself we'd have been hearing questions about Vince Foster and the little Arkansas airport used by the Clintons for drug smuggling and on and on.  Senator Obama's better than that.
P.S. Why doesn't MSNBC support posting from Firefox?  Are all MSNBC readers supposed to be Microsoft sheep?  Please, support fair journalism with fair open standards technology.
Just a note to say Bravo to Lynne,LR,AR.  I am so glad to learn that I am not alone observing the huge bios that MSNBC has for Obama.  I am an Hillary supporter and I realize that she can not win and I have decided to vote for McCain.  I have never voted for a republican in all the years that I have been able to vote and I am 60 years old.  You at MSNBC should be ashamed of yourselves.  I can guarantee that people like myself and Lynne will discover why you were instructed by your network to get Obama elected and when we do I will make it my own personal mission to bring your network and all of your so-called anchors down.  You should be ashamed and I think someday you will.  I think if enough of us follow the money it will lead all of us to your reasoning.  For now I am boycotting GE products and all Newsweek publications and I have asked by family, friends and co-workers to do the same.  America has missed a great opportunity to become the shining star of the planet again, instead we will have to deal with a falling one.

SuzyB
Cmon Lynne, Goerge Bush backs McCain and he's personally responsible for murdering thousands of Iraqi's.  Playing "Seven Degee's of Barack Obama" is not going to sway us from voting for Barack.  Now , to only found out how Barack is linked to Kevin Bacon.
Lynne LR,AR

Wow. I am amazed that you bring up Obama's alleged relationship with terrorists.  Tell me, who was it that pardoned four FALN terrorists at the end of his term?  Why, it was Bill Clinton!  Wait, let me guess.  Hillary was opposed to those pardons, right?  Isn't it convenient that she was in favor of everything good that happened during Bill's adminstration, and opposed to everything bad that happened.

Tell me which is worse.  An alleged relationship with terrorists, or misusing presidential power to pardon them after they commit their crimes?

Obama in 2008.  Integrity matters and the Clintons have none.
The Boss isn't a superdelegate?  Outrageous!

I'm so excited for the debate tonight!  Woo hoo!  Debate party!
Remember voters, Independents will decide the General Election, and Barack Obama is the only Democratic candidate that Independents will support.
Lynne, your a whinner!  MSNBC people are not completely sold out to Hillary, yet.  However, whenever there is a Hillary talking point, they pick it up.  Just by giving her the free news coverage, when she is so bankrupt in the Ads market, is a gift from the Media.

CBS =Clinton Broadcasting Station
CNN=Clinton News Network

MSNBC==Thanks God for a little fairness--sometimes.

Fox==Completely right wing neo con.

Stop Whinning Lynne!
To Lynn in AR:

Ask HRC about the Pual vs. Clinton case that's coming up soon...there's a lot of evidence that her campaign didn't declare funds which went into it, as well as the possibility that she's perjured herself with regards to even knowing Mr. Paul (speaking of which, her relationship apparently goes back to the early 90's - if the reported video evidence is true).
It seems both the Clintons may have a problem parsing facts when under oath....

NO candidate is perfect...but I'd feel better with a cnadidate which isn't as "soiled" as she is.

Go Obama!
Obama keeps saying Clinton is the same old politics. My questions are

How long has Obama been in politics?

Obama talks about change

What has he changed since been in politics?

What makes Obama think that he can change the world's opinion of the USA?

Obama couldn't change one person opinion of the USA (rev. wright)
Drip-drip-drip.....what a wonderful sound of a better America.....Hillary's LOSS. We just do not need her lies, lack of integrity, lack of honesty, etc. Anyone but "her".
It's unfortunate, Domenico, that you needed to highlight the fact that Carson being a Muslim was such an important issue in your short article.  Let's focus on reality: one more super for Barack.  One step closer to the nomination and the presidency.  Obama can unite the country.  The only thing that Hillary can unite is the GOP against the democrats.
One of Springsteen's songs seems very apt for Hillary's campaign just now:

I was bruised and battered and
I couldn't tell what I felt
I was unrecognizable to myself
I saw my reflection in a window
I Didn't know My own face
I feel myself just wasting away
On the streets of Philadelphia
