The pitch to superdelegates

From NBC's Lauren Appelbaum
The last question in the debate is what Clinton and Obama would tell undecided super delegatesin Denver.

"I say to them what I've said to voters -- we need a fighter back in the White House," Clinton responded, going on to say that she will fight the special interests and touting her miltiary endorsements. "I will tell everyone that listens I am ready to be commander in chief."

"The American people have lost trust in their government," Obama said. "The bet I was making was the bet on American people ... they didn't want spin and PR out of elected officials. They wanted an honest conversation." Obama asserted his pledge that he did not take PAC or special interest money.

"My point to the superdeleagets will be is if we're going to deliver ... it will be for a new political coalition in this country," Obama concluded. "That's what I've been doing in this campaign and what I will do in November."

I think Obama's supporters need to boycott ABC!!! This was a very unfair lopsided debate!!! Hopefully that will be noted by the news media across the country. Who knows maybe the Clintons or their supporters paid of ABC?
Pure Clinton Exhaustion is setting in...  How much more of this can we take?  The country is not just tired of Hillary Clinton -- we're exhausted.
Apparently George was making a pitch to the Supers on behalf of the Clintons.

I shared how pathetic this was tonight.
that debate was an embarassment to ABC. It was tabloid. It actually AVOIDED issues. Charles Gibson was rude and combative.

It was not a debate, it was a private press conference for Gibson and Stehpanopolous (sp?)

How sad that they had in front of them two people who might be our next President and they chose to play ET instead of ABC.
So Obama is trying to remove the Democratic Establishment if they don't support him?

So you get in by the Democratic Establishment, now you want to remove them?

Sounds like a revolt to me.  Is this a Republican operative with Obama?
Obama couldn't stand the scrutiny - he stumbled and looked irritated.  He doesn't want to be "vetted" like everyone else.  Hillary was strong and clear and admitted her mistake on Bosnia.  She knows what she wants to do as President.  He doesn't have the depth of knowledge to be President - he's a rambler and likes big speakes with lots of hoopla.
I don't think that Clinton handled the question about Mark Penn very well.

Oh... wait... they didn't ask anything about her problems with conflict of interest....

Like say... George throwing her softballs and pumelling Obama for the first 40 minutes.
IN MY OPINION THE REASON WHY THE MAJORITY OF DEMOCRATIC DELEGATES AND SUPER DELEGATES HAVE NOT RALLIED BEHIND SENATOR CLINTON IS BECAUSE THEY THINK….SENATOR OBAMA- IF NOMINATED WILL EASILY BEAT SENATOR MCCAIN, SO THEY ARE HEDGING THEIR BETS. THEY THINK THAT WITH THE ECONOMY AND THE INTERNATIONAL CRISIS IN THE SHAPE THAT IT IS IN, COMBINED WITH HIS AGE---THAT HE WILL BE AN EASY TARGET COME NOV. THUS THEY FEEL WITH SENATOR OBAMA’S APPEAL TO THE YOUNGER VOTER AND THE AFRICAN AMERICAN VOTER, THE DEMOCRATIC S HAVE A TREMENDOUS CHANCE OF TAKING THE WHITE HOUSE IN 08. I BELIEVE, THERE REASONING IS FLAWED…FIRST, LIKE IT OR NOT, THE REPUBLICANS WILL RALLY BEHIND SENATOR MCCAIN, EVEN WITH MIS-GIVING’S. SECOND, THOUGH IT MAY “APPEAR” THAT THE REPUBLICANS DON’T CARE IF THEY LOOSE THE WHITE HOUSE IN 08, DON’T BET THE FARM ON IT….I DON’T DOUBT FOR A MOMENT THAT THERE ARE SO VERY MANY SECRETS, SECRET DEALS AND HAPPENINGS THAT HAVE TAKEN PLACE OVER THE PAST 8 YEARS….UNKNOWN TO THE AMERICAN PUBLIC, AND THE REPUBLICANS ARE IN NO WAY GOING TO RISK THESE BEING EXPOSED. SENATOR MCCAIN, KNOWS GOING INTO THIS, AS DOES THE REPUBLICAN PARTY, THAT HE, IF ELECTED WILL SERVE A ONE YEAR TERM, SIMPLY BECAUSE OF HIS AGE IF NOTHING ELSE. THUS A STRONG, APPEALING VICE-PRESIDENTIAL RUNNING MATE WILL ALLOW THE PARTY TO POSITION ITSELF FOR THE 0-12 ELECTIONS. FOLKS, YOU HAVE SEEN IN THE PAST HOW THE REPUBLICANS WIN ELECTIONS…THIS SCENARIO IS NOT UNREALISTIC. IN ORDER FOR SENATOR OBAMA TO BEAT SENATOR MCCAIN, HE WILL NOT ONLY NEED ALL HIS EXISTING SUPPORT, BUT THE SUPPORT OF ALL OF SENATOR CLINTONS FOLKS, ALONG WITH A MAJORITY OF THE SO-CALLED REAGAN DEMOCRATS AND INDEPENDENTS….A MIGHTY TASK TO ASSUME. I SAY THIS NOT BECAUSE I AM AGAINST SENATOR OBAMA, I SAY THIS BECAUSE I BELIEVE THIS IS THE REPUBLICAN GAME-PLAN. WITH ALL DUE RESPECT, SENATOR OBAMA IS INTELLIGENT, ABLE, AND SINCERE….BUT HE BRINGS THE REV WRIGHT ALONG WITH HIM, AND THE “ILL-PLACED” COMMENT OF HIS WIFE ABOUT “FINALLY BEING PROUD TO BE AN AMERICAN” AND THE REPUBLICANS WILL POUND HIM TO DEATH ON THIS ISSUE AND OTHER ISSUES. PLUS THE FACT THAT HIS RESUME’ IS SHORT ON EXPERIENCE. WHILE SENATOR CLINTON HAS HER FAULTS, SHE HAS BEEN EXPOSED TO THE REPUBLICAN ATTACK MACHINE MOST ALL HER LIFE AND I BELIEVE SHE IS IN A BETTER POSITION TO HANDLE THE ONSLAUGHT OF THE ENTIRE REPUBLICAN PARTY COME NOVEMBER…
Only positives from Obama. Very impressive that he has been consistent in his message for the last 15 months.  No constant changing of slogans or focus. No backing down when he was down, and no gloating when he's ahead.

True judgement, character and temperment.

Obam/Nunn 08
He earned $4.7 million last year alone. went to Ivy league colleges, private high schools. Has some of the biggest lobbyist in the country on his paid staff. He is disengenous at best. Obama is simply a politician 2.0. Branded, able to sway voters but in the end no different. Perhaps more dangerous in fact since he actually believes his own spin
The undecided voters, and most people, will see the CLinton 'hits' as mean and low, and Obama's decision not to rally fight as wise and above the fray.  This will be the story.  He decided to actually act on principle.  He'd rather lose than be a jerk, and so he will win.
HRC - what makes you ready to be commander in chief?  Bosnia sniper fire?
I don't think she's ready to be C in Chief...I think she's a joke in that regard (her credibility gap haunts her here).  I am totally sick of her saying she's a fighter.  Yeah, she's a bully, when I think fighter I don't think Rocky, I think neighborhood bully.  Hooray for that ::eyeroll::

Again, Obama's answer more Presidential and true, hands down!
Obama finished quite nicely.  Overall, both did well considering the subpar moderating by George & Charles.  Why was George even a moderator given his relationship with the Clintons.  Obama maintains my vote. He doesn't practice divisive & attack type politics.  He will serve this country well as President.
The MSM is a joke. The debate was biased. At least on MSNBC you have guys like Tim Russert who asks questions on the ISSUES...not Georgie and Charlie who work for TMZ. Disgusting tonight. Gave media a black eye. Shame on you, guys.
This news just in. The Superdelegates are voting for McCain.
This was a horribly monitored debate by ABC.  If you go to ABC's blog about it you will see the overwhelming disgust of the moderators and the questions asked. This was a gang-up trashing of Senator Obama.  He took the high road several times with Clinton and yet she continued to attack him along with Gibson who continued to interrupt Obama's answers.  And why would they have Stephanopolis there who was staffed by Clinton. This was a totally biased debate.  Shame on ABC.

She IS the special interests.

This was the worst debate.  I really like Charlie Gibson, but what the hey?  And George? A Clinton
Admin. employee? One of 'the children that got me (Bill) elected'? The questions were about the nonsense again, barely any on the top 5 issues of concern to the people.
And they could have at least given the questions
in advance to Sen. Obama too!
I am a Hillary supporter, but could not help but notice that ABC ganged up on Obama and focused alot of the debate on stupid tabloid (recycled, non issues), as opposed to subjects of substance that draw out solutions for our country. I was very dissapponted in ABC for the first time in a long time. I was impressed with Mr. Obama for being so cool under pressureand such a gentleman and above the fray of going negative, despite on-going attacks by Hillary.

I think I will vote for Obama now.
Senator Obama demonstrated grace under fire.  He could have brought up alot more.  clinton and ABC will pay the piper. I for one will never watch abc again, I will become an idependant with clinton on the ticket and I'm going to make another donation to the Obama Campaign to make me feel better.   Come on Obama supporters, let's send in another donation tonight.
Good job ABC. This was an unbiased debate.
We could see the character, poor judgment and lack of experience of Barrack H. Obama.
I am not bitter. I will vote for Hillary
If Hillary would have had three on one attacking her I would like to see how she would have handled it.  She cried and moaned when she thought Tim was picking on her and he didnt hahahahahah.  She wouldnt be able to keep her cool.  Obama did great.  In my opinion he is the vetted one.  And the senate should dump her.  She doesnt care about the party she only cares about winning at all cost.  From what I hear even Gov. Rendell thought the debate was handled badly.  But then again this could be a ruse to fool people into thinking he knew nothing about it.  Play the game, play the game.
George started to ask a question about Bill Richardson, stopped, seemed to apologize, said Oh. I know you dont want to talk about it, and went on to give her another chance to say something neagative about Obama.   The $800,000?  If Michelle had earned that giving speeches for Nafta, I do believe they would have crucified her. The donors?  All the little people who havent been paid?
I have already emailed ABC about this embarrassment of a debate. 50 Minutes of Tabloid Coverage without one mention of the issues. We need to stick to the cable debates. George Stephanopolous got that Ayers question from sean hannity.  TOTALLY BIASED!!!

ABC's ratings are going to take a major hit.  The polls have OBAMA holding at 41% but the 34-18 age vote in PA is not being polled.  Many only carry cell phones and polling co.s can't call cells.  Come on PA VOTERS, go out to vote next Tuesday and suprise the world with an Obama Victory. ABC your debate was a complete joke tonight.
This wasnt a debate it was a tabloid debacle and ABC should be discursted in themselves. Charles and George spent 50 minutes asking about nothing. It was a one way mudslinging fest which if thats what they were after the questions should have been fair for both. Clinton was never asked many questions I want answered such as why Mark Penn is still with her campaign. What about the Peter Paul trial which is scheduled in Nov. What about the contradictions of NAFTA and CAFTA. What about the 800,000 her husband recieved and the conflict there. What about the missing transcripts from the whitehouse. What about the donors to the Clinton Foundation. I could go on and on.

The DNC needs to end this now as if I was unsure before I am certain now that Hillary Clinton will NEVER get my vote.
Obama or nothing… If I wasnt BITTER before I am now… Tabloid reporting at its finest c/o ABC which I will now boycott. A written apology for not addressing real issues such as more on the housing issues healthcare the economy ect. anything would have been better than what the american people received..

Obama 08
i was wondering why hillary clinton looked so smug as this program began.  as it progressed it was clear that she knew well in advance of the kind of ambush that was planned.  very sad for ABC and charles to have participated in this.  irreparable damage has been done to their reputations.  and they deserve it.
Tonight's debate was a load of Entertainment Tonight-style tabloid rubbish. Two amazingly accomplished people appeared before your moderators only to receive questions representing the lowest common denominator of this presidential campaign. Instead of asking questions to hone in on each candidate's intentions toward the presidency, they chose to wallow in the mud with most of the rest of the media. Once again it was all sizzle and no steak. ABC and its debate moderators should be ashamed.
You won't get Hillary to admit her bad judgement in voting for the Iraq War.  Tim Russert couldn't get her to admit.

Lets hope her vote to tag a faction of the Iranian Armed Forces as a "terrorists group" doesn't explode in our face.
This week, McCain echoed Obama's notion that the American people want a civilized discussion, and not politics as usual. Even McCain gets it! Hello, Hillary and CBS moderators - start paying attention to what the American people are asking for.
I listen to Good Morning America every morning. I was so ashamed of the treatment of the candidates, especially the obvious attack on Obama. It seemed so one-sided. I like to listen to Charlie and George, I was just highly disappointed in their handling of the debate.
Worst moderators I have ever seen. Disgusting.

The only good thing was seeing that Obama would not stoop to the level of Hillary with the negative attacks. I would never vote for Clinton. It's time for someone not named Bush or Clinto to be in the White House.
Msnbc, let us see if you can rise to the occasion tomorrow......where will your spotlight on the debate be?   Can you, will you, stoop to the level disregard for issues that ABC did in the debate??

The ball is in your court, we're paying attention, lets see what you got!
Hillary reminded me of a '50/'60's mother. After he got it from the moderators, mom had to put her two cents in....she would never sit in that church....her father and grandfather as well as the PA people she has met on the campaign are not bitter. Lady, we just discussed that, get on to the issues!!!!
No one can look at Clinton and how she acts and say she would be anything but an embarassment as a first lady.
There are too many issues facing this country to have  put the people through what was called a debate. The American people have heard all the questions asked before. Very little time was allotted to the economy, health insurance, education and the Iraq War.
This was truly a waste of time. Obama is trying to change the same old politics as usual. This whole process appears to be a game of sought and the American people are being forgotten about. The more I see how Obama handles all of this negativity, the more I respect him. He is truly a man of great vision and substance. It was obvious what was going on and I hope the people won't be fooled.
ABC moderators did a lousy job. Shame on ABC. What struck me was even in this ugly atmosphere Obama remained Presidential. Lots of hits on Obama, multiple errors from the moderators, one candidate left standing.  Barack Obama will be the next President
worst, I really cannot believe what I was watching, shame shame, we the people, the  electorate was raped by the clintons and abc.
It is funny. The poll on MSNBC about the debate has Obama winning the debate, but when you read these blogs that say the debate was lopsided in favor of Clinton tells me that Obama did not look good and did not win. This is why polls like this doesn't matter. The angry people (Obama supporters) come to blog sites more to state their disappointment and therfore are the ones voting most in the poll.
Oh how the Bots are whining! IT is so good to hear the bleating, the finger pointing, the mean moderators, the sad face of BO who was having such a hard time being civil!  STUTTER and STAMMER!  How long does it take to say 3 words? The audience was asleep!!
Hillary was strong and informed and Presidential!
This guy is weak and the repukes will wipe the floor with HIM!
As always I felt that Senator Obama handled himself like a gentleman and didn't fall into the same disgusting attitude that Senator Clinton reflects. Senator Clinton is getting so tiring to look at and listen to that it is exhausting. To think of her being the comander in chief is enough to make you want to run away from this country. George and Charlie showed how completely biased they were toward Senator Obama, something that I believe every American saw. Mr. Obama has once again shown how capable he is of handling obnoxious people and keeping his cool. That's why I sincerely believe he would be the best candidate to answer that 3 am call. Not lying Hilary and not hotheaded old John McCain. Why would anybody want this old man to be commander in chief????????? He has no self control.
What a one sided debate, if you want to call it a debate.  Who paid who for that?  I would call it an attack and what a poor job the monitors did!  George and Charlie made the media look REAL bad.  You know where they are coming from and especially George.  What a connection he has!  Obama is strong and will rise above all of this but what is this nonsense doing for the party.  Enough is enough!!!!

Obama all the way!
He really looked like  deer in the head lights and taken aback that anyone could ask him a question that didn't fit into his self written narrative - that is not how the real world works and if you want to led the free world you have to be fully vetted.  Why so many of you re so wiling to let him run through the process without fully looking at who and what he is is NOT sound.  We reviewed 11K pages of her schedule and learned that she was in the residence the night of the monica episode and yet we no nothing about what he did for three years as a community activist other then what he sys "i helped steel workers" that is not  real and full answer and i think we have an obligation to ask; No?
I think Hilray is right about one thing that Obama comes with a few problems but nothing like she has and it not her job try him.She is not the canidate of choice and she should not be doing the republican job for them. this is not November. It's time to move on

Senato Obama You have My vote
We don't need a fighter in the White House! A Hillary White House might look alot like her debate style- negative, dishonest, attacking and petty. America needs Obama! Honest, keeping the focus on the issues, speaking from the heart and grounded in vast experience- bringing us together and moving forward!
i was so annoyed with the questioning and bias that half way through i had to turn it off. i can't wait for this to be decided and for barack obama to get the nomination.
It is interesting that the Obama camp does not feel that they need to address these issues that are obviously still on Americans minds...Rev Wright, the guns, the flag pin, the gun bans, Rezko...many Americans are still unsure about Obama. These things will haunt him in the general election. David Axelrod cannot spin this. The GOP is going to attack the front runner, but no one is questioning Sen. Clinton's patriotism. Obama's patriotism however IS questionable. If Obama is going to run for President, the American public has every right to know his stance on all the issues addressed above.
This debate was a complete insult to the candidates as well as the audience.  It was a prime example of how the media participates in and encourages the politics of attack.  The moderators, with their tabloid questioning, did not allow the candidates to fully expound on their ideas and the audience was short-changed because of it.  What a disgrace for ABC.
It was refreshing to see Obama actually questioned for once.  Thank you ABC - I thought it was a wonderful opportunity for the voters to get a REAL look at the two candidates and how well they handle themselves under pressure.

It was indeed a very hot kitchen last night, and Mr. Obama had a difficult time in it.
Let the superdelegates decide sooner rather than later. By May 7th for sure. After Indiana and North Carolina it should be clear who will win and that is when the Democrats should unite behind one of the candidates. The real battle is November against McCain/Bush.
The conclusion of the superdelegates should be "it's time to end this".  I don't see how they or the fine people of Pa. can see it it any other way.  Were the questions supplied to those two clowns by the Clinton campaign? What a farce of a debate.  It's a sad day for American journalism.

Under the circumstances, Obama did quite well.  Could you imagine Hillarys response if she had been questioned for one hour about Nafta, Columbia and Mark Penn, Bill's race baiting comments, her 'screw them' comment, etc. etc.
