Bill praises wife's debate performance

Posted: Thursday, April 17, 2008 11:14 AM by Mark Murray

From NBC/NJ's Mike Memoli
ERIE, PA -- Wouldn’t you know it? Bill Clinton thinks his wife won the debate last night.

At the start of a six-event day that will take him 300 miles across northern Pennsylvania, Clinton told a crowd at Penn State Erie that Hillary “was great.”

“She was great because she showed the strength and leadership and knowledge of the issues that is very important to the next president, and she didn’t hedge, beat around the bush on tough questions,” he said. “She told us what she was gonna do on health care, she told us what she was gonna do on jobs. That’s what you want in a president -- someone who is leading for you.”

Clinton hurried from his final event last night to watch the debate in Pittsburgh with local supporters, including Mayor Luke Ravenstahl and Allegheny County Executive Dan Onorato.

Joining Clinton for his events today is actor Ted Danson. In his remarks here, Danson talked about his family’s friendship with the Clintons, and called Hillary “the most authentic person I have ever met.” It was a tribute that Clinton felt deserved expanding upon.

“You heard what he said about Hillary? That’s what the people who know her think,” Clinton said. “That is very different than the image that they have tried to create for her, isn’t it, in the media, and out of the other campaign, who are always nagging, nagging, nagging. You heard it for 15 months, you know? How come no one who knows her believes that?”

So Bill thinks she won eh?  That's not what I saw.  She's nothing but a guttersnipe and looked smug, mean, and petty. If they manage to steal this nomination, I will stay home.
Authentic = Hillary Clinton

We report you decide!!!!!

Dear First Read,

You forgot to include a closeup in Chelsea in this article. Perhaps ABC failed to give you the memo indicating there can be no debate without gratuitous pans to Hillary Clinton's spawn.
What an ambush job by the ABC Moderators lastnights debate... Pathetic.... Obama should really push back on this one...Hard....ATTACK,ATTACK,ATTACK

ABC News website has 10's of thousands of negative comments about the debate....BOYCOT ABC....
My goodness, this is such surprising news! A husband thought his wife did well -- wow! Stop the presses.

FASCINATING that Bill has not been allowed to appear inside the debate hall since South Carolina. That seems unprecedented to me -- seems like there used to always be post-debate photo ops with the wives. All we get these days is a gleaming Chelsea. Guess Michelle is home with Sasha and Malia.

Yawn.
That was no "debate", it was nothing less than a Hilary Clinton commercial. Could the mods ask any more rediculous questions regarding flag pins? Seriously... flag pins... at a debate?  And don't bother to allow Obama to finnesh a sentance without interupting him. They pummel him with every negative they could think o, with follow-up after follow-up, but when Hilary is asked only 1 questin about her negatives, she doesn't get interupted and of course they don't even bother to ask a follow-up. How about asking both senators a few questions about actual ISSUES? What a joke, that was an embarasement to the news industry. ABC is a joke.
To be objective, Obama did not do well. However, it cannot be said that Clinton did well when she was not asked any questions regarding her gafes. Also, questions were not asked about Clinton's associations. If questions regarding Obama's associations are asked, then it should have also been asked about clinton. Specifically, NAFTA, CAFTA, Mark Penn, Bill Clinton taking $800,000 from Columbia and taking money from the Chinese who are responsible for the crisis in Tibet. Also, Pat Buchannan had a good point in Keith Olbermann last night. Hillary wanting to attack any middle eastern country that attacks Isarel is aganist the constiution. We cannot declare war on a country without getting permission from congress and the country did not attack the U.S. She sounnds like the current President whom she criticize for doing the same things in Iraq. Another flip flop moment.
The Allies of Bill Clinton network certainly delivered for his wife with two clownish moderators who were more interested in sensationalizing scandals than in discussing the real issues we are interested in.  Being on the left coast I heard the analysis over an hour before the local ABC station ran the show.  I decided to watch far more intelligent programming with Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert than watch that sham of a debate.

I went over to complain at the ABC News website and saw that a whole lot of people are peeved at ABC and many Clinton supporters are switching to support Obama now!

Go Obama!

I just had to cut and post this.  The most honest perspective I have heard so far.

Obama Wins Debate: By Steven Lesner: Op-Ed-News

. . .
Obama wins this debate because everyone and this includes Hillary and the moderators behaved as if he is already the presumptive nominee and for Hillary to have changed that dynamic, she needed a knockout. The fact that a knockout wasn’t scored and no real harm was done to Obama at all despite the best efforts of Hillary and the moderators all trying to hurt him is bad news for Hillary. This was the last debate and her last chance to change the narrative of the race. Since she didn’t do that, it underscores the reality that she has lost this race. Speaking of losers, ABC is going to receive a lot of criticism in the mainstream media for the way they conducted this debate but the news is not all bad for them. They could parley this effort into a real play for a share of Faux, I mean Fox News’ conservative viewing audience. Or, with their perfection of a television version of Page 6 gossip journalism perhaps they can create a new reality show called political survivor
Hillary won the debate? Of course it's esy to win when the moderators are clearly in your corner.
Senator Obama is light a wave or a particle?
Senator Clinton what is the Capital of Arkansas?
With questioning along those lines no wonder people say Obama didn't do well.
BTW When is Senator Ckinton going duck hunting with Dick Cheney? Soon I hope.
When questioning Hillary's JUDGEMENT and MORALS one only has to reflect on her choice of spouse and the retention of such spouse. Her expectation of Obama leaving the church due to the Pastors actions is the same one the public had for her to Leave Bill. Sounds like some double standards to me. Stop the nit-picking and get to the real issues facing this country.

Bill Clinton has NO MORE CREDIBILITY.  Let's lump him with G. Bush. Strike One for Democrats, Strike Two for Republicans, now let's join hands with Independents and knock one out of the park!

Obama 08
Bill must have been doing dozens of shots and beers last night to make a statement like that LOL.

Hillary Clinton
A Liar for All Seasons
Well Bill, no one can win the way you and your spouse play politics.  America looses again thanks to your willing to win at all costs.  Oh, by the way, where is Hillary's lapel flag pin?  All she wears are different colored pants suits.  Whats wrong with her wearing one?
Where is her patriotism?  I am voting for the one who has character and that's not Hillary.
It depends on the meaning of the word "mud" and how each of us thinks about "mud" in the context of a political debate.  Did Senator Clinton throw more "mud?"  Yes.  Did any of it stick?  I don't think so.  But it is up to everyone to decide for themselves.

Frankly, I thought the entire debate was a waste of my precious free time.  I still cannot believe so-called journalists spent 10+ minutes on FLAG PINS and gave each candidate ONE minute to discuss how they would lower our gas prices.  Ridiculous.
LOL!!!!!!!! Funny, how democrats continue to fight, while Mc Cain is having a ball laughing at us, Obama is the candidate, and people need to recognize, his strong work ethic. He is the "person" of tomorrow, different ethnic backgrounds, witty, and charismatic. Young people such as myself, are coming out in record numbers, we are tired of middle aged, and senior citizens, running this country to the ground. OBAMA 08!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Carlos (only democrat in OC)
