Two uncommitted supers 'worn out'

From NBC's John Yang
Three weeks ago, we went to Missouri to meet two uncommitted superdelegates for "NBC Nightly News with Brian Williams": Leila Medley, the political director for the state's teachers union, and state Rep. Maria Chappelle-Nadal. At the time, both said they were dismayed that the race was getting more contentious the longer it went. And they both hoped Democratic voters would decide the nominee, not superdelegates such as themselves.

After Wednesday night's debate and days ahead of the Pennsylvania primary, we thought it was a good time to check back in.

Medley tried to watch the debate, but turned it off before it was over. "It was so contentious," she said. "I'm so worn out with all the arguing."

Chappelle-Nadal missed the debate because the legislature, now debating the state budget, was in session until about 1 a.m. Thursday. But she, too, laments that the campaign has been reduced to "bickering."

Medley fears it's hurting the Democrats' chance in November. "What we're doing is we're letting John McCain have a free ride," she said. "He's running a general-election campaign, and we're still fighting among ourselves. … They need to be more civil to each other. It's just gotten too contentious. Somebody has to step aside."

But who? She doesn't see Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) throwing in the towel because he's ahead in the delegate count. And she doesn't see Sen. Hillary Clinton (D-N.Y.) giving up. "She's in it to the end and that really concerns me," she said.

Chappelle-Nadal, one of the 75 superdelegates handpicked by party chairman Howard Dean, now said she's going to try to make a decision by the beginning of July, as Dean has suggested.

She said she's still undecided, but had some critical words for Obama. She found Obama's criticism of former President Jimmy Carter for meeting with Hamas leader Khaled Meshal "hypocritical" given his earlier stance that he would meet with Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. And, Chappelle-Nadal said, she finds herself frustrated that Obama's speeches lack detail.

"I hate to say that I'm agreeing with what Clinton's been saying all along," she said.

Meanwhile, both campaigns continue to woo the two. Medley recently got a CD from the Obama campaign, but refuses to open it. Lately, she's also been getting lots of letters from Clinton supporters in California.

And after appearing on "NBC Nightly News," she can't walk into the Missouri State Capitol without being besieged by supporters of one candidate or the other.

She said it's one reason why she's resisting making a decision now -- she doesn't want to look like someone pushed her one direction or the other.

"If I had known what was going to happen," she said, "I would have jumped on somebody's bandwagon much earlier and just gotten it over with."

They want it to end so badly?  Endorse!!!

It amazes me that super delegates keep talking about hoping it ends somehow, without realizing that they have the power to actually end it themselves!
I'm sick and tired of it all, also!  SD's get some cajones and put an end to it now!

But,this process isn't about who one-upped the other.  These debates are about our futures, and you Clintonites really should get a dose of maturity, take a "nice" pill and stop looking at this as a game.  It's not. Clinton knows she isn't winning and will do EVERYTHING in her power to bring down Obama, and the Democratic party.  She doesn't care about you, me, or anyone except her inflated ego (which includes making a whole lot of money off of idiots like ourselves who vote for her).  How can ANYONE with an ounce of decency in their body endorse this woman.  She's a liar (which she FINALLY admitted to on national tv), unethical, manipulative/devious, and doesn't have a bit of compassion for anyone, not even her own daughter.  How humiliating it would be for me to have to see my daughter sit there and witness on a daily basis my lifetime of dishonesty and deviousness. She was laughing, and beaming with pride as she made reference to her "dirty laundry". How sick.  She doesn't care for Chelsea, Bill, you Clintonites, or the rest of the country- yet you endorse her.  My only conclusion is that you Clintonites are just like her- win the nomination at any cost, regardless of who it hurts.  You don't give a d*mned about this country.   You want her to "win" for your own selfish reasons- whether they be racist, or sexist.  Whenever I see a Clinton supporter's post, it never details why you are endorsing her, but how much disdain you have for Sen. Obama. Sen. Obama isn't perfect-no one is, but at least he is trying to make a difference. Clinton and her supporters are content to sit by and let this country be further ruined by the same politicians who continue to become involved in an unhealthy conflict-of-interest relationship with lobbyists and big businesses at our expense just so you can say, Ms. Clinton won the Democratic nomination.  If she wins the dem. nomination, will I vote for her in the general election? Unfortunately, yes, because she is the lesser of two evils. But, I would have to hold my nose in doing so, and at the same time wonder how could I trust her to put forth the policies that she supposedly supports for the American people? I'm sure (just like in the 90's when Bill was in office and even today), IF she manages to win the ge, AND if big business or an overseas company were to offer her a "deal", she would ditch these policies in a NY minute in order to line her family's pockets once more.  Score, Clintons/Bushes 20, American people -0-.  Losers.
Hilton supporters should thank Obama instead of saying he is weak. He chose that route in politics. Questions he could have asked to give back in same coin as Clinton (or the moderators could have):

(1) Can one accurately say you are implicitly spending Columbia's money while you claim to be against their trade deal since you fie a joint tax with Bill and he took 800K from them?

(2) If you are very serious about this opposition to the deal, why would you not fire your top staff member that collects money for promoting the deal you oppose?

(3) As a follow up to the Bosnia story (the way they kept hounding Barack): Can you call it a mispeak if you repeated the same falsehood three times?
Is Bill's explanation accurate that this happens when one 60 and getting a little forgetful?

(4) Do you believe that Barack is indeed elitist compared to you considering that you also went to Yale and made 110 million last year?

(5) Peter vs. Paul: Does this suit claiming payments in exchange for potential favors not keep dogging you folks not present a problem against the GOP - if not at worst another impeachment or white house trial?

The only counter Obama lobbed regarding pardon of the same underground members Clinton raised and she was asked if she wished to respond or wait till after the break, she quickly recoiled, chose the latter, and never brought it up again. Hill really is a bully!
A lot of restraint and discipline it must have taken to stick to his principles. As for ABC I am boycotting the political coverage here for the rest of the election.

Clinton attacks Obama all the time. If he doesn't respond, he's accused of being week or soft.  If he defends himself, he's accused of bickering or being too negative. He is already restraining himself from not going all full blown on her. She'll just cry after all and pay the victim, then the Emily's list people will accuse him of beating up on a woman.

The Supper Delegates need to tell Clinton to back off if they don't want this contest to look nasty.  Obama won't attack her first, but he'll defend himself.  He has to.
Please Pennsyvanians, Hillary can't win this honorably. Stick the fork in her! The fat lady is getting ancy, she wants to sing. Let's free Barack from all this crap and let him get to work beating McCain.
just go for Obama you know he s right
This piece is interesting because it's a good reminder that many superdelegates aren't Beltway insiders, but people with more normal lives who are just politically active.  The fatigue conveyed in this article is a common theme among all superdelegates, though.

Ms. Chappelle-Nadal, though, hasn't been listening if she says Obama lacks specifics.  One of the few high points for Obama at yesterday's debate was when Clinton had to back off her criticism of Obama's plan to put money back into Social Security - as she'd just praised the 1983 Reagan commission, which had implemented the same funding ideas Obama had advocated.

As for hypocrisy, I don't see how meeting with Ahmadinejad - who has been recognized by this country as a legitimate leader, and has met with President Bush - is the same as meeting with Zahar, who founded an international terror organization.  Not even the conservatives equate the two.
Dear Supers:

Hillary  has NEVER HELD THE LEAD -- not in elected delegates, not in the popular vote.  She is more than 10% behind in delegates.  She took a massive head start both in money, in brand name, in connections, in organization and ran it into the ground.

This isn't hard.  It's not even close.  Declare for Obama and get on with it!
If you vote for Hillary you vote against the will of the people in your state and most likely against the popular vote and elected delgate lead.  Factor that in and see if the will fo the people count.
That's because she's a pit bull and classless.

OBAMA, 2008!
HOW DO YOU THINK WE ALL FEEL!
I AM EXHAUSTED, EMOTIONAL AND ON THE VERGE OF A NERVOUS BREAKDOWN!!!I HAVE FRIENDS IN THERAPY AND SUPPORT GROUPS HAVE POPPED UP TO HELP PEOPLE DEAL WITH POST TRAMATIC PRIMARY SYNDROME.
PLEASE, FOR THE MENTAL HEALTH OF THE COUNTRY...WE NEED SUPER DELEGATES TO END THIS!
GET OFF YOUR ASS AND DO YOUR JOB!!!
"She doesn't see Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) throwing in the towel because he's ahead in the delegate count. And she doesn't see Sen. Hillary Clinton (D-N.Y.) giving up. "She's in it to the end and that really concerns me," she said."

No kidding. Me too.  It concerns EVERYONE.

And we are all suffering from primary fatigue.
boo-hoo. if you haven't seen enough by now to make a decision, you either haven't been paying attention or you like the attention. if you like clinton, support her. if you like obama, support him. but save us the "oh, it's so difficult. i dont' know what i'm going to do" garbage. and you need to take until july? you need a full month after the voting has ended? why? how about june 4th as the cut off? these people are hurting the party every bit as much as the candidate in-fighting.
If they are so tired, they need to make a decision one way or the other and get it over with.  No, they are simply political and want to go with the "winner" not the person that they feel in their heart is the right person for the job. I don't feel sorry for either of them.
Hillary isn't winning the election - and it's obvious she's seriously handicapping Obama with her negative campaign. The saddest part is she really is in her element; negative campaigning.

Entering these past few months, the Democrats had the chance to take the White House with either the first woman or African American president.  Now thanks to HRC's campaign, that prospect is rapidly dimming. If he wins the nomination, she's provided more dirt that the Republicans could have ever hoped to dig up.  If she wins, they'll tout the fact that she's perceived by Americans as the least trustworthy candidate since Nixon.

Way to go Clintons...!
Chappelle-Nadal, one of the 75 superdelegates handpicked by party chairman Howard Dean, now said she's going to try to make a decision by the beginning of July, as Dean has suggested.
------------------------------------------------------

How worn out can she be? Please make a decision, Nadal, or keep quiet until you do. You're thought process is not news. This article was a waste of space. It would be more relevent to break a story on how the voters are exhausted. We are the ones whose hands are schakled to this grueling process. That woman have no right to grip, when she has the power to do something about it.
Oh that's just pathetic!  THESE are the people potentially making a decision for who the nominee is??  Waa waaa waa.. the decision is sooo hard. Well step aside then.  Why in the world do they need until July? Do they think some new information is going to surface?  If they can't make this type of decision after 15 months.. then well.. I must say it.. either they are stupid, lazy or like the added attention.

It's pretty simple. If they want this contest over, then pick a side for peets sake. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to understand that it's all going to come down to the superdelegates anyway.
I am worn out too. This primary is totally insane and needs to end.

http://www.politivine.com
There shouldn't be anyone uncommitted.  The supers are helping this thing DRAG OUT.  Pick Obama already Hillary has LOST and is dividing the party.
This is ridiculous.  It's undecided (and unwilling to decide) superdelegates like these two who are dragging this race out.  Rightly or wrongly, they have outsize influence on the nomination.  Far better for the party if they exercise that influence now rather than wait.  Why is it that Dems always wring their hands and want someone else to take charge?
What COWARDS these People are!
WELL FROM WHAT YOU STATE YOU ARE MORE BEHIND THE CLINTON CAMPAIGN.SO WHY NOT MAKE A STAND?PUT WHAT IS BEST FOR THE COUNTRY FIRST...OBAMA IS NOT A MAN OF HIS WORD.IT HAS BEEN PROVEN TIME AND TIME AGAIN.NOR DOES HE HAVE WHAT IT TAKES TO TAKE ON THE REPUBLICANS IN NOVEMBER
I agree, John McCain is getting a free ride. I am a voter who is also tired of the back and forth but if everyone (including Clinton supporters) were to carefully look at this race, you would come to the conclusion that Hillary is about winning at any cost where as Obama is about bringing people together. Obama is listening to the American people where as Clinton is listening to her ego and campaign staff.
OMG, if Chappelle-Nadal does not like the bickering, why is she obviously leaning toward the candiadte who has been launching the kitchen sink at the other? Do these folks just expect Obama to sit there and not react to her attacks? He is in the proverbial catch-22.
These are the kinds of (not so) superdelegates hurting the party. What new information are you going to have by July that you don't have today about these 2 people. Whether they know it or not - they are the people hurting the party along with Clinton.
The candidates should not agree to any more debates unless they are sponsored by the League of Women Voters or some other reputable organization. The disgraceful way the ABC "moderators" conducted the debate shows that they cannot be trusted.

If the media were objective, they would cover Gibson's and Stephanoulos' behavior as a real scandal and give it the same treatment they gave the Rev. Wright story. What they did was infinitely worse than anything Wright did.

But the media, of course, will pretend disgraceful conduct of the "moderators" isn't the big (and only) story emerging from this debate. The corporate media elite protect their own kind. They're the ones who are out of touch with the public, not Obama. And they're killing America.
Im so glad the supers are starting to see how Obama talks out of both sides of his mouth and how his speeches are filled with rhetoric.  Obama is a great reader that;s about it.  Ask the guy a question, god forbid a tough one and he is uhh, umm, uhh, umm
Can any one find out if Hillary got the questions ahead because she was prepared for the debate.This is not normal.
This person is a professional?  She needs to grow up.  Whomever she ends up supporting, for her to be crying about how she wishes she'd made her decision earlier is just nuts.  We live in the real world, with hard decisions to be made.  Clearly you were afraid to make it earlier, now you're afraid to make it now.  No doubt you'll be "gripped," "torn" on June 30 at midnight when you finally have to make it.  Frankly, I am sorry for my party that such a wimpy person has a say in the results... and I'm sorry that either Sen. Clinton or Obama has to deal with such cry-babies.  We need leadership now, more than ever... and this includes leadership from our party's less-than-super delegates!
I think that the reporting and aaproach to the dem race has taken a negative and biased tone toward Obama on MSNBC.

If what actually happened could be loosely called a debate, then the mediators should go back to school - their own preferences shined brightly.

Objective investigation, well thought out (relevant) questions, and fair reporting should be the goal - not the tabloid regurgitation of Reality TV antics when our nation, economy, and institutions are in such a state of turmoil.

Cover the Clinton and McCain problems with ideology (unrestrained urgency for war; overt attempts to polarize the voting public for private gain; a belief that s/he has earned the right to demand the Presidency at all costs), past voting records and political associations, relevant monetary connections, misstatements and confusion with the same verve and rapidity that you attack Obama.

Stop drinking the pundit kool-aid - take a higher road and show some hint of objectivity.
And these dim-witted supers are supposed to choose a president for us?  First, Ms. Chappelle-Nadal, if you cannot find specifics from stump speeches, do what all informed voters do, read up on the candidates' stance and positions.  The last time I checked, Obama has a website.  Second, if you lament that the race is getting out of hand unless somebody steps aside, then instead of complaining, how about wield your god-given superpower and cast a vote for one of them already.  At least, your vote would count more than  mine.  It's stupid to complain, and at the same time, say that you'll wait until July to cast your support.  Ms. Chappelle-Nadal, you're the hypocritical one.
The supperdels will through there support to Obama.. The writing is on the wall...There just waiting on Hillary to take one more shot in PA..... Coming soon...At a theater near you...

Hillary = Shameless typical white women
Hillary = Kithchen sink
Hillary = swiftboating

Hillary = Loss of being a lady
Hillary = Loss PA
Hillary = Loss NC
Hillary = Loss IN
Hillary = Loss Oregan
Hillary = Loss Guam
Hillary = Lawinsky having sex with the same man(Bill) nasty and pathetic...
Hillary = Chelsea in denile of sex scandle... Needs psycologist...
You need to make a decision, and how dare you hold Obama to a different standard than you do Clinton....you all are so disgusting...you say you are sick of the bickering and then you have the nerve to suggest or imply that Obama should quit...he is leading... why would he. Our election process is sickening...we have people in authoritive positions that can't make a decision it is no wonder we are in the position we are in....because of people like you.....weigh the odds, if you agree with Hillary's tactics and her lying and deceit, then she is your girl, if you want someone that is willing to restore faith in our government, in our standing around the world, in our president, then you need to support Obama...I am in MO. and trust me when election time comes around we will remember the names of our super delegates that went against the will of the people.
This debate was so bad I don't blame the superdelegate from turning it off, but I disagree that this was the candidates fault. The two "moderators" were clearly trying to provoke a dog fight. They did succeed better with Clinton than with Obama, who didn't take the bait. To his credit, he did criticize the moderators' stupid questions, but only mildly.
I'm from Iowa and I had to pick a candidate back in early January.  Why can't the remaining superdelegates -- supposedly wizened heads of the party -- make their decision?  Am I more qualified?  Have I been paying more attention to the campaign?

If they want it to end, then they can help:  make a d**n decision already.
So apparently, opening CD's or going to a candidate's website to find 'details' is just a little too much effort for Superdelegate Medley.

This is how these party elders select a president?
We are all tired.
With everyone out there saying HRC is a liar, showing the video to prove it, the baseless pandering to the Jerry Springer crowd that salivate at every LCD comment she makes as a continued reason not to face the fact that in their dakest of hearts they do not want to vote for a black man. Obama has made us evaluate exactly where we are on this issue and some people find that they are ashamed to admit that they still have values that are 40 years out of date. The dimensions Obama bring to the table are the most diverse ever his abilty to look at Islam without the misunderstandings of the "born and bred" christian stereotypes is a STRENGTH!! This CHristian man has the unique past that bring to the table people that view us as enemies because of our beliefs, we have to live on the same planet so it time to start teaching understanding and stop campaigning
WE ARE ALL TIRED
The fact that Medley has to defend herself with "If I had known what was going to happen" to me seriously creates doubt this person is the kind of 'Super' needed to decide this election. Really, she couldn't this situation coming? Really?
of all the articles I've been reading on this race this has to be one of the most frustrating. I have no sympathy for either of these superdelegates. If they are so 'worn out' they only have themselves to blame.  Step up to the plate and make a decision and help end this mess. It is hurting the democratic party and the superdelegates are partly to blame. I have no sympathy for them. How can any superdelegate still truly be undecided, when they are supposedly the cream of the democratic crop and so in tune with the politics
here in london, We are laughing at the Americans if they allow hillary, Bosnia heroine to be the president of the US. That will affirm the stupidity of the people. It seems like she is running to be a principal of high school or something.
It is fun to watch.

Let them show how stupid America is.
Bill's got a short term memory problem. Hillary complained during the NBC debate about unfair treatment.
Please tell Andrea Mitchell to stop defending Hillary on that debate.  She would not allow the speaker to complete his thoughts before she interjected a defense for Hillary.  And yes, I can blame Hillary and ABC for the questions --GEORGE--did not want to be called --GEORGE JUDAS--!
Pretty disengenuous on her part, if it's hurting the party, then make a decision now.
Yes - Obama needs to get out now.
He can't win the general.
All candidates have baggage but his is way tooo much to overcome!

Plus the longer Obama stays in the race, the more he'll be denigrating the Dem Party and the best Dem president since FDR.
Obama is not a friend to Democrats!
Both are cowards. People like these are the reason Democrats may lose this election...
Barack Obama said Thursday that the North Carolina primary could be decisive.

"If we can win in North Carolina, I think we can wrap up this nomination," Obama told an overflow crowd of supporters outside his event in Raleigh. "And if we can win this nomination I think we can beat John McCain."

.
Obama gained another superdelegate today.  Wondering why this is not being reported here...hmmmm.  Would that perhaps contradict your evaluation of last nights debate?  It seems the elimination or obscurity in reporting this gain for Obama will not allow you to "frame" the results for your readers/viewers.  Additionally, Obama is overwelmingly being declared the victor in the debate last night via your text msg vote.  Hmmm, I don't see that being reported either.  Look we don't expect you to take sides directly or indirectly, but we is expected is equal reporting on negatives and positives for both candidates.  Please do this for us!
I'm a bit tired of the SuperDelegates whining about this. They could, after all, make a decision and put some public pressure on one candidate or the other. What are they waiting for, anyway?
Well, if they are so concerned about how long it's going, then they should just choose.  It sounds like one super would like Hillary to drop out, but doesn't herself have the guts to endorse Obama who is in the lead.  The other seems to feel like she should support Obama but is chagrined to be agreeing with Hillary.  Just freaking choose already, or shut up and admit you really do love being wooed!  I'm pretty sick of this race going on, too.  It seems that no one has the guts to tell the empress she has no clothes!  Hillary, even if she wins the rest of the contests, can't win in total popular vote, nor in delegates.  The super delegates who all claim to be so worried can shut this thing down immediately by choosing, either one of them, en masse.
This does not bode well for the Democratic Party if the people who are leading it are too "worn out" to make up their minds. How did these people get to be superdelegates anyway?

Frankly, one candidate is more negative than the other--anyone can see that. Hillary is up with 100 percent negative ads. Here negativity ratings are above 50 percent. And she's the only one who screamed into a camaera, "meet me in Ohio."
