Two uncommitted supers 'worn out'

From NBC's John Yang
Three weeks ago, we went to Missouri to meet two uncommitted superdelegates for "NBC Nightly News with Brian Williams": Leila Medley, the political director for the state's teachers union, and state Rep. Maria Chappelle-Nadal. At the time, both said they were dismayed that the race was getting more contentious the longer it went. And they both hoped Democratic voters would decide the nominee, not superdelegates such as themselves.

After Wednesday night's debate and days ahead of the Pennsylvania primary, we thought it was a good time to check back in.

Medley tried to watch the debate, but turned it off before it was over. "It was so contentious," she said. "I'm so worn out with all the arguing."

Chappelle-Nadal missed the debate because the legislature, now debating the state budget, was in session until about 1 a.m. Thursday. But she, too, laments that the campaign has been reduced to "bickering."

Medley fears it's hurting the Democrats' chance in November. "What we're doing is we're letting John McCain have a free ride," she said. "He's running a general-election campaign, and we're still fighting among ourselves. … They need to be more civil to each other. It's just gotten too contentious. Somebody has to step aside."

But who? She doesn't see Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) throwing in the towel because he's ahead in the delegate count. And she doesn't see Sen. Hillary Clinton (D-N.Y.) giving up. "She's in it to the end and that really concerns me," she said.

Chappelle-Nadal, one of the 75 superdelegates handpicked by party chairman Howard Dean, now said she's going to try to make a decision by the beginning of July, as Dean has suggested.

She said she's still undecided, but had some critical words for Obama. She found Obama's criticism of former President Jimmy Carter for meeting with Hamas leader Khaled Meshal "hypocritical" given his earlier stance that he would meet with Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. And, Chappelle-Nadal said, she finds herself frustrated that Obama's speeches lack detail.

"I hate to say that I'm agreeing with what Clinton's been saying all along," she said.

Meanwhile, both campaigns continue to woo the two. Medley recently got a CD from the Obama campaign, but refuses to open it. Lately, she's also been getting lots of letters from Clinton supporters in California.

And after appearing on "NBC Nightly News," she can't walk into the Missouri State Capitol without being besieged by supporters of one candidate or the other.

She said it's one reason why she's resisting making a decision now -- she doesn't want to look like someone pushed her one direction or the other.

"If I had known what was going to happen," she said, "I would have jumped on somebody's bandwagon much earlier and just gotten it over with."

And these are the people who are supposed to be smarter than NORMAL Americans and who can SAVE us from ourselves?? When in all actuality they know nothing more than we do. They have no more intelligence or superiority than we do. Yet they are going to DECIDE who the Democratic Nominee will be. If they had 'spines' they would pick already. I don't even care who it is anymore. Just DECIDE already!!! This whole process speaks of 'elitism' with the SD's having more importance than the actual constituents they are supposed to represent. And many of them aren't even doing that!!! Aren't the voters supposed to pick THEIR candidate???

STOP THE MADNESS!!!
Dems have erred by allowing this protracted battle. The party superdels should have asked Hill to exit after Barack won 12 or 13 states in a row and it became almost mathemtaically impossible for her to overtake  him. With that being said, they should have known that she would have to throw the kitchem sink, the outhouse, etc, at him in order to win. Polls show that McCain is the winner from this battle and Rush calls it Operation Chaos, yet most dems want this to go on? Pulllease!!!
My comment is whatever happened to good sense?  The reason we have the primary season is for differences to be vetter.  This priumary is child's play when you read our political history.  Grow up Americans, the party will come together.  Personally, I think we should have a three month primary campaign, followed by all primaries on the same day.  There is too much wasted money.

I personally, will write in Hillary Clinton if she is not the nominee.  I have never missed any election in my life - and I have always been a loyal Democrat - but I believe the cult-rising of Barack Obama is a bit disconcerting, he has not been vetted.  There is nothing about Hillary Clinton that has not been critizized, right or wrong.  I say better the devil you know than the devil you do not know.  We should use our heads, and not our hate when choosing the President of the Free World.
VERY ODD that first read isn't reporting that Obama picked up TWO new superdelegates today, including one that used to be a Hillary supporter.  Is Bill's opinion of Hillary's perfermance more pertinent?
Idiots. They can't decide after 15 months of campaigning, 40 states voting, and 21 debates held? Wonder if their job qualifications call for indecision.
What a sissy.  She should vote for who she thinks will make the best President.
At lease Iran is not throwing bombs at us (Isreal) directly.
Hamas is.  So why can't everyone see the differance?
you in the media are the ones that keep all this stuff going  about everything that Obama says.  Quit speaking for all of us voters.  Your station will be turned off just like you are turning off the voters.
Well, gee, ya think?  So these two brainiacs realize that the power to end this thing and avoid all of this has been in their hands all along, and didn't do anything about it?  Glad to know who to send my thank you cards to when the Republicans slide into the White House in November.  Oughta be an IQ test for superdelegate status next time around...
hmmm...so somebody should step aside.  How about Obama quitting?  He showed us last night he isn't fit to be President. How will he talk to world leaders or change Washington if he gets indignant when anybody questions him?
I just had to cut and post this.  The most honest perspective I have heard so far. I am ashamed of ABC!Hillary, you need to get a life.  You would cut of your head to cure a headache.

Obama Wins Debate: By Steven Lesner: Op-Ed-News

. . .
Obama wins this debate because everyone and this includes Hillary and the moderators behaved as if he is already the presumptive nominee and for Hillary to have changed that dynamic, she needed a knockout. The fact that a knockout wasn’t scored and no real harm was done to Obama at all despite the best efforts of Hillary and the moderators all trying to hurt him is bad news for Hillary. This was the last debate and her last chance to change the narrative of the race. Since she didn’t do that, it underscores the reality that she has lost this race. Speaking of losers, ABC is going to receive a lot of criticism in the mainstream media for the way they conducted this debate but the news is not all bad for them. They could parley this effort into a real play for a share of Faux, I mean Fox News’ conservative viewing audience. Or, with their perfection of a television version of Page 6 gossip journalism perhaps they can create a new reality show called political survivor
This is why Hillary will lose. SDs know that she can't win and with this type of negativity, they are less and less inclined to allow this slugfest to continue. HRC is hurting herself with the very people she needs to win--the SDs. She might win the battle (PA) but she will lose the war (the nomination) . . . even sooner than we thought.
Did Mrs. Chappell-Nadel not hear the actuall comment obamma made about meeting with groups like Hamas?  He stated that he would only meet with them if they denounced terrorism and recognized Isreals right to be a soverign state!!

For me, this begs the question: Are any of the remaining superdelagets paying attention?

Or are they lying down for the almighty Billary steamroller?

Its seems to me that if they can't stand the bickering, they should seriously take a look at which campaign is living in the glass house.

Obama could be digging up truckload of that "vetted old baggage" and really rehash the past!!!!

I don't believe for a minute that's within Obama's character.

Wake up supers and don't let our votes go to waist!!!

Oh please. Sh&*^ or get off the pot. These otherwise unknown "Supers" are milking every moment of close up time they can get.
