From NBC’s Domenico Montanaro The DNC is going after
McCain in a paid TV spot starting April 22nd on national cable. It attacks McCain for saying it could be argued that we’re better off now than before the Bush presidency. The DNC uses McCain’s words at a debate, splices that with ominous-sounding (almost Exorcist-like) piano music and titles on screen combating McCain’s economic outlook.
Do note, however, the direct appeal at the end of the ad to help keep the ad on air. A title comes up that says in big, block letters, “HELP US FUND THIS AD.” It then directs viewers to democrats.org/fundthisad. The DNC and Howard Dean have been criticized for being outraised and having far less cash on hand than the RNC, which boasts of its $20-plus million on hand and is coordinating efforts with the McCain campaign.
Here’s the script:
VOICE OVER: Senator McCain, are Americans better off than they were 8 years ago? MCCAIN: I think you could argue that Americans overall are better off - because we have had a pretty good prosperous time… ON SCREEN: Household Income Down $1,000 MCCAIN: With low unemployment… ON SCREEN: Unemployment Up MCCAIN: Low inflation… ON SCREEN: Highest Inflation in 17 Years MCCAIN: A lot of good things have happened. ON SCREEN: Gas Prices Up 200% MCCAIN: A lot of jobs have been created… ON SCREEN 1.8 Million Jobs Lost MCCAIN: I think we are better off overall. ANNCR: Do you feel better off?
