Bill: 'I'm not going to play your games'

Posted: Tuesday, April 22, 2008 11:48 AM by Mark Murray

From NBC/NJ's Mike Memoli and NBC's Mark Murray
At the Jewish Community Center in Pittsburgh this morning, Bill Clinton took questions from local press after shaking a lot of hands. NBC/NJ asked him about the WHYY radio interview in which he said the Obama camp was playing the race card.

Below is full transcript of the back-and-forth:

NBC/NJ: “Sir, what did you mean yesterday when you said that the Obama campaign was playing the race card on you?”

CLINTON: “When did I say that, and to whom did I say that?”

NBC/NJ: “On WHYY radio yesterday”

CLINTON: “No, no, no. That’s not what I said. You always follow me around and play these little games, and I’m not going to play your games today. This is a day about election day. Go back and see what the question was, and what my answer was. You have mischaracterized it to get another cheap story to divert the American people from the real urgent issues before us, and I choose not to play your game today. Have a nice day.”

NBC/NJ: “Respectfully sir, though, you did say …”

CLINTON: “Have a nice day.” [continues shaking hands with supporters]. I said what I said, you can go and look at the interview. And if you’ll be real honest, you’ll also report what the question was and what the answer was.”

NBC/NJ: “They asked you if you regretted your comparing Jesse Jackson to Barack Obama on the day after the South Carolina primary.”

CLINTON: “And I pointed out that I did not do that, and that I complimented them both. And that Jesse Jackson took no offense. And I called him myself, I said, ‘Did you find that offensive?’ And he said no.

Again, here is what Clinton told WHYY.

INTERVIEWER (RE: Jackson comment): “Do you think that was a mistake, and would you do that again?"

CLINTON: "No. I think that they played the race card on me. And we now know, from memos from the campaign and everything, that they planned to do it along.

This is what the Clinton's call this tactic:

THE POLITICS OF PERSONAL DISTRUCTION -- To accuse your opponent of your own malfeasance.

They invented this tatic.  Just watch the upcoming events. You do not admit the charge, you do not explain the charge, WHAT YOU DO YOU ATTACK THE INTEGRITY OF THE PERSON BRINGING UP THE CHARGE.
Wow, the hypocrisy has reached unimaginable heights!

PA, put them out of their misery!!!
How blatant is the hypocrisy in this statement?

You have mischaracterized it to get another cheap story to divert the American people from the real urgent issues

Obama says something very similar and all of a sudden he's not tough enough. The media is playing everybody to keep this ridiculous primary going.
So instead of journalism you guys opted to write blogs for the "Daily Tattler" you're trusted name in gossip

BOOOOOOO!!!
I didn't think the Clintons could still shock me but this is beyond the pale.  Clearly, they have not moved into the 21st century.  Especially after the Bosnia flap, do they not remember that audio/video clips are instantly accessible?  Not only do we all know exactly what he said, he know the expletive he used when the interview was over.

PLEASE-PLEASE-PLEASE, God, end this today in PA, just so we can be through with Bill Clinton!!!  It is NOT good for America to have him back in the White House.  (And I'm a former Clinton lover..)
Something is wrong with this man...
hey Pennsylvania, Hillary promised NYer's 5 million new jobs too and we're still waiting, time to send a message to that old hag, she lies and misspeaks at every turn, the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results, time for a change, shake up the establishment, vote for Obama or stay home
It is sad how former President Clinton is behaving. Of course, he should politic for his wife, but to deny something you said that is on tape for everyone to hear is just nuts. I don't understand how anyone could even think about voting for Senator Clinton. Bush-Clinton-Bush-Clinton is a ridiculous idea. Wake up PA and beyond!
They lie...lie CONSTANTLY.. did you see her on Olbermann last night trying to wiggle out of her comments on McCain being more experienced that Obama?  She lies, lies, lies..

They lied about Kosovo, they lied about his sex,NAFTA, you name it.  The biting of the bottom lip  all that exposes him to America. They reinvent themselves whenever they deem necessary to further their ambitions.  They are true "shape-shifters"  morphing into something else when the situation necessitates it.
IT IS TIME AMERICA!! TIME FOR A NEW BEGINNING!!
Get out HillAry and take your husband with you...we have had enough!!!!!
All these comments from democrats! What a bunch of hypocrites. You all are the same people who voted Bill in office twice because he was doing such an awesome job for our country and you were happy. So now you become easily swayed to vote for Obama, a man you know little about. What a bunch of frauds. Most of you call yourselves democrats? Disgusting!!
