Early exits: Candidate qualities

From MSNBC's Norah O’Donnell and Adam Verdugo
It's been a full six weeks since the last contest, and we're getting a good look from our NBC News exit polls at which personal qualities Pennsylvania Democratic voters value. Today, voters in the Keystone State say it's the candidate that can bring about “change.” Nearly half said this -- 49% -- followed a quarter that said “experience.” Fifteen percent said that it was important that the candidate "cares about me." While only 8% said electability.

As has been the pattern in previous races, Obama's voters are looking for change -- 73% of his voters said this. Far fewer mentioned anything else: 14% wanted a candidate who cares about people like them, 8% are concerned about electability, and just 3% say it's experience that counts.

Among Clinton voters, it's a very different picture: experience is the quality most valued. Nearly half of Clinton's voters say experience is what they value most. 27% want a candidate who can bring about change, 14% want someone who cares about them, and just 9% say the key for them is electability.

However, when it comes to just who they believe will be the Democratic nominee more voters in this Democratic primary feel it will be Obama: Obama -- 54%, Clinton 43%. But we should note, in this state it's just a small majority, much smaller than in recent national polls. It also appears that about one in five Clinton voters in the state now feel that Obama will be the nominee.

AS of the last commercial from Hillary, I am on that band wagon. I caucused for Hillary here in Iowa. I changed after all the racist garbage from Bill, and since I have done nothing but defend the idea that we all have to come together no matter who wins?
That is dead in the dust now. The question is… are we going to have two non-alternative candidates for the Presidential election? Hillary is now running to the right of McBush on foreign policy? This white-middle age-construction worker has had it with the Clinton's. I will work tirelessly to get her defeated in the general if she gets the nomination. AND I will move to New York if she ends up running for the Senate again, just to remind everyone what a racist, (Bill), Lying, (Hill & Bill), Backstabbing, (remember what she did to Kerry?), fear/war mongering, (Hillary last week & her new ad), Self-serving, (again Hill & Bill), traitors to their Party that THEY really are. I wouldn't p**s on them if they were on fire at this point. Maybe Hillary can buddy up with Lieberman…
Obama supporters, and Hillary supporters, please pray that the polling will be fair, regardless of the outcome. We should only care about a just polling right now. May G-D's will be done. Amen.
HILLARY AND OBAMA HAVE VERY SIMILAR POLICIES, SO IT DOESN'T MAKE ANY SENSE TO VOTE FOR MCCAIN JUST BECAUSE YOUR CANDIDATE DIDN'T GET THE NOMINATION!!! WE DEMOCRATS ARE SMARTER THAN THAT …… I HOPE.
If you haven't voted yet and you are from Pennsylvania -- please go vote!

Our vote is our sacred right given to us to safeguard our children's future and provided to us by the blood, sweat and tears of those who came before us.

I urge you to vote your hopes for the future of America and not your fears or cynicism.

Yes we can!

Either one of them will obviously bring a CHANGE.

I wish they weren't confusing the FAMILIAR with
   EXPERIENCE.
Bring on McCain!

"yes we can!"

Obama '08
What about the 12+ year INVESTMENT OF POLITICAL CAPITAL by the Clintons?  If this is factored in, Obama is actually UNDERSPENDING Clinton several fold in this campaign.  Think about it . . .  Would someone PLEASE talk about this?

I love the BROADNESS of the word change ... it has been a platform of some of the most powerful dictatorships in history.
Kim, your message would be noble, except that the "Yes we Can" at the end pretty much says you only want them to vote if they vote for Obama. Basically, GO OUT AND VOTE (as long as you agree with me).

Congrats on turning a positive message into propoganda. "Impressive, Obama-Wan has taught you well."
A tough place for Obama to be, "the expected nominee." Isn't this where Clinton thought she was just a few months ago? So I would say to him, tread carefully, no more "elistist" remarks, you have zero privacy now, and ratchet up the "what I will do as president" to fix: the economy the economy the economy. Getting out of Iraq will at least begin to put a lid on cost rather than sprialing out of control but it won't save much for a long time. Health care seems the most important fix followed by infrastructure, education and oh yes, just about everything which is what George Bush neglected for eight years.

But dang, I'm happy. I grew up in Kansas, my mother in Chicago, and I live in Hawaii (his sister's precinct, no less) so to me, Obama is family.

OBAMARAMA FOR ME!
To "DEMS UNITE"

No. No you're not. But, if it makes you feel better, you'll win. But then you'll lose when nothing changes.

This is a clear view of what to expect the next four years ...
Obama will be the Democratic nominee.

Mrs. Clinton has run out of money and tapped out her donors. She can't compete with Obama's war chest.

And with 67 % of voters in PA thinking that she attacked Obama fairly - this does not bode well for her.
you go hilary!!!! We need someone who has been there and seen the behind scenes.
God only help us if a democrat wins. Not only do they raise taxes, but 911 will look like a picnic. We need a good republican!!!
I am an Obama fan.  All along it has been said that the Reublicans want Clinton to win the nomination because they think she is the most beatable.  Now the media seems to be reporting that Obama cannot beat McCain. Could a republican be behind this????
Obama CAN beat McCain.  Don't forget it!
Oooh, Joe Scarborough's on now. This guy has the hots for Hillary.

Here's a question for Joe: Why can't Hillary close the deal?
-She started off with a ton of money
-She had a beloved (ugh) ex-Pres as a husband
-She had 35 years experience (trying to keep a straight face here)
-She had a lot more political connections than Obama

How is it that HILLARY can't close the deal against a Jr. Senator from Illinois?

Better not let him read this post. He might throw a hissy fit and walk off set.
You guys have got to be kidding me. What expieriance does Hillery have? I gotta give you this she has done a lot of lieing. That she knows about.

Are you people really that stupid?
When voting you should focus on facts not hype. Saying "Yes we can" and there needs to be change means nothing unless you know what the detailed plan of the man or woman is. Ending the war is very simple you recall the troops so once that's done then what is the real plan on the man or woman who is running for president. Drill down into the details and find out what your canidate is really about, don't focus on commericals or how you feel. " FOCUS ON THE FACTS "!!!!!
Clinton is the same ole same ole horse amd pony show that has destroyed America and handed it over to the corporate and special interest. I have have watched her aspirations from first lady to senator to now democratic presidential nominee hopeful. I am convinced this lady will say anything even where it contradicts her last statement a few months or years prior just to get in office. She is awfull and it appears she stands simply for herself interest. If she wins the nomination, someone please turn off the lights when leaving what will be left of America
The Clinton's are slime. Obama doesn't have a clue.
Change and Hope. Anyone remember that those were the campaign slogan and promises of another presidential candidate...who got elected....Jimmy Carter...and you see where THAT got us.  Im voting for McCain.
Hope Obama wins in Pa, to the contrary of all what the pollsters and pundits were saying and bring an end to this meaningless self-destruction of the Democratic party. I agree whole-heartedly with the observations Appollyon of iowa has made about the "Hill-Bill" coalition.
Or talk about Obama not standing for anything and not being able to pull support from any State a Democrat has to win.
Bob the Builder OBAMA, "YES HE CAN NOT!!"  When you ask for change, you had better know what you are getting.  Remember, the Republicans got change with George W. and look we all got, "Screwed!!!"
yup. Hillary's INVESTMENT OF POLITICAL CAPITAL also includes her war vote, so include in that cost the lives of 4,037 dead young Americans, {not to mention the Iraqi cost}.
With Exxon Mobil controlling the shots in America and the world, just vote for your favorite politician.

Im not a Dem....  if H wins the nomination..  I will pray for her loss...  and Ms..  what the dif between tweedle dee.. and tweedle dum...
AT THIS POINT, ANYBODY THAT VOTES REPUBLICAN, REGARDLESS OF WHO WINS THE DEMOCRATIC VOTE, IS A COMPLETE IDIOT. BUSH AND THE REPUBLICANS HAVE DESTROYED THE LIFE THAT AMERICANS HAVE KNOWN FOR 100 YEARS OR MORE AND McCAIN WILL CONTINUE IN THE SAME FOOT STEPS. WE DON'T NEED RETORIC BULLSH-- ANYMORE. WE NEED TO GET THE AMERICANS BACK ON THEIR FEET AND GET RID OF THE BILLIONS OF DOLLARS IN PROFITS THAT ARE FILLING THE POCKETS OF A FEW, SUCH AS THE BUSH FAMILY AND THEIR OIL. NO WONDER WE DON'T DO ANYTHING TO CHANGE THE POLICY... DEMOCRATS RULE

Obama... All style and no substance. It is absolutely pathetic our Country does not realize this man is all talk and no action. I could preach change if that is what voters are looking for, although you have to work with Congress and Business Leaders to get things done, which Obama is extremely unproven. In our Hip-Hop it is cool to slap a b*tch society, it is worrying Black Americans are voting off of Color, when Hillary has done more for their community than Obama ever will. You forget Obama is half-white, and he seems to be embarrassed and uses race to his advantage, as his speech had nothing to do about the election and misleads voters on the subject matter and issues. As an Educated Black American, NO, I AM NOT AFRICAN AMERICAN, I WAS BORN IN AMERICA, NOT AFRICA... It pains me our community is so mislead by this charasmatic speaker who is using us. If he gets in The White House, he will be over-run and be lame duck from day one, giving The US The Audacity of No Hope.
A message to all::Makes no difference who gets elected.Egos take over and they will be working to get re-elected a month after taking office. Why weren't the candidates pushing for their programs while in Congress all these years. That's where change takes place, not in the White House. The average taxpayer won't be helped one bit, just keep paying your taxes,as they go up along with prices..
I love Hillary, but if Obama wins I will vote for John McCain...We dont need another learn as you go presidency like Bush and that is exactly what we will get with Obama! Only idiots are voting for Obama, you guys are like robots, every word that man spews you believe..so pathetic!
Hope Obama wins in Pa, to the contrary of all what the pollsters and pundits were saying and bring an end to this meaningless self-destruction of the Democratic party. I agree whole-heartedly with the observations Appollyon of iowa has made about the "Hill-Bill" coalition.
All I can say is "rememsber when Dewey thought he had it and then Truman won!"
Im an Obama fan. I started out with Hillary until her true colors came out. I believe she will do and say anything to win.
HILLARY -IF THE DEMS VOTE IS MARGINAL
RUN AS AN INDY-I'LL VOTE FOR YOU!!!
Has anyone noticed that noone factors the votes of the people in both Florida and Michigan into the popular vote mix I do believe that those votes should have some  validity i can understand the issue with not seating the delegates but how would their voice affect the super delegates if they saw those figures.
As I watched the media coverage over the past few days, I was quite distressed by the twist some of them on putting on this PA. vote.  Why hasn't Obama closed this out some of them say.  I say why hasn't Clinton closed this out?  She is the person with all the contacts, he has three (Bill, Chelsea, and Hillary) to run against, and he has several in the media who also appear to be running against him.  With all this opposition he has remained in the lead.  If a reverse situation, there would be a great outcry for him to leave the race.  By the way, Pat Buchannan should just quit whatever his job is now and join the Clinton campaign.
you go hilary!!!! We need someone who has been there and seen the behind scenes.
pat in Barto Pa. (Sent Tuesday, April 22, 2008 7:46 PM)

------------------------------------------

What part of "behind the scenes" has she seen?

Has she been in a meeting with the Joint Chiefs?

Has she been in the Situation Room?

Did she see all the intelligence briefings Bill Clinton saw?

Would you vote for Barbara or Laura Bush or Nancy Reagan?
I personally have no hope that someone (Hillary) who is volunteering lie (Bosnia) after lie (NAFTA) after lie (Columbia) and who thinks it acceptable to proclaim opposition and publicly refer to the Columbia trade act as "immoral [due to] assassinations and corruption" yet accept nearly 1 million dollars via her husband who lobbied for that very same proposed act, will do anything as the commander in chief but continue, if not eclipse, what George W. Bush has done in terms of corruption and illegality.  At least Bush does his dirt under the misguided influence of some moral/religious authority.  The Clintons don't even appear to have that as restraint on what they will and won't do.
Good Grief!!!Susan, what planet have you been living on for the last 7+ years?  Must be one that doesn't get Earth news.  Republican have almost killed this planet along with it's youth and you want mor of the same?
no matter which candidate wins, we need a democrat in office PERIOD...........

Go Obama!!!!!!!

Obaba will not win the nomination...too many people are taking a second look at him and are not what they are seeing.  We don't know enough about him, and there is something sinister about him and his "inner circle"  Hillary will pull this out and win in november by a huge margin.  This from an "old vetran" of politics who probably knows more then any of these "political pundits and hacks"
I am neither a democrat nor a republican but something is very wrong.

Who was the last presidential candidate to come out of nowhere with no political machine and defeat the seemingly unbeatable candidate from the Democratic Party? Mark my words:

Obama is the next Jimmy Carter

And his presidency will be just as destructive.  We will have double digit inflation and terrorists will attack at will.  This man is dangerous.

thank you Chris for pointing out that Obama is running against "THE CLINTONS".   The question should be why Clinton is not winning every primary.
Come on folks....Disneyland is in California.  If only Obamma was smart enough to realize that all these promises he seems to be making will all be determined by what the House and Senate allow...We need someone who can work them and knows how to,not a young inexperienced rookie....Really now think this thru and vote for Hillary we don't want another 4 years of Republican financial ruin...I can't afford that can you?
the last time I got suckered in for the candidate for change we got jimmy carter.hillary knows the way the the game of politics is played in washington, and is well versed on how things really get done there,a canidate may have the best ideas in the world, but is only as strong has the house and senate let them be.
A lot of Obama fans are on the web bashing Hillary. It still doesn't change the fact that after all the hype, race card, character assasination and money spent, Obama camp still can't dislodge Hillary from the hard-core democrat supporters. Most of Obama supporters are first time voters who never really cared about politics in Clinton era and just came to vote because President Bush had given them a whole lot of troubles.
Obama can't win Florida. Period.
Hmmm, do I want facts from someone I know to be intrinsically dishonest and is now using fear tactics, or do I want to take a chance on a newbie that doesn't have a ton of political ties in Washington and is offering hope? If one candidate's trying to scare you, and the other one's trying to get you to think; if one candidate's appealing to your fears, and the other one's appealing to your hopes; you better vote for the person who wants you to think and hope." Who said it? Bill Clinton

I'll take Obama in a heartbeat

"

McCain is the one who should win. Obama and Clinton have aired to much dirty larndry. While McCain sits backs and watches. That should tell you something about McCain should it not. I don't see anyone going after him.
