NC GOP vows to air ad anyway

Per NBC/NJ's Carrie Dann
Despite criticism from the RNC and from its presumptive presidential nominee, the North Carolina Republican Party is resolute in its plan to air a 30-second ad that links Obama to the controversial Rev. Jeremiah Wright.

"This is a legitimate question to be asked," said state party spokesman Brent Woodcox, who emphasized that the NC GOP has "a great relationship" with their national leadership. "We are not the only ones asking it."

VIDEO: April 23: MSNBC's Norah O'Donnell talks with North Carolina GOP chair Linda Daves about a controverisal new ad running in the state that calls Barack Obama too extreme.

Woodcox says the party plans to air the ad Monday night at 6, but that the buy is "still being finalized." (That means there's still time for the party to balk, rendering the ad a trial balloon or a stunt.)

He said that the urging of party leadership will be "taken into consideration," but that they stand by the ad as of now. "We plan to go ahead with this," he said.

The Republican National Committee was aware of the ad last night, but a formal request for the ad to be aired was not made by the RNC until this morning.

Fear and hate mongering....it's the only thing the repubs know how to do. Watch them whine and cry when the dems start swiftboating mccain and exposing him for the fraud that he is!
This is so typical. The GOP uses religion as nothing more than symbolism. Then they attack Sen.Obama for actually attending church.
This Primary is only about race if we, the voters, make it about race, and thats what we, the voters, have done! Shame on us.  The reality is - if we want to win the Presidency back from the GOP, the Superdelegates have got to decide who can WIN - and since we the voters have made it about race it is our own fault if we lose.  Mr. Obama is the weaker candidate overall, not becasue of he is black, but because he is less experienced politically and has not demonstrated that he can do what he says he will.  Words are nothing more than words.  Actions past and present determine the value and electability of a candidate.  Ms. Clinton is clearly the stonger, more experienced candidate who has demonstrated by her actions the ability to do what she says she will do as president.  This is what we voters should be looking at.  Not the color of their skin or their gender. Wake us American Democrats.  This is our opportunity to take back the Presidency and get this country back on track.  Lets not let the GOP derail our focus with ads that don't matter in the long run.  The ad only does damage if we voters remain narrow minded.
I SUPPORT SEN OBAMA AND THE RNC SHOULD DEFINITELY RUN THE AD.THIS WILL WORK TO SEN OBAMA'S ADVANTAGE SINCE HIS RESPONSE WILL TOUGHEN HIM UP.REV WRIGHT, BILL AYERS AND TONY REZKO WILL BE OLD NEWS BY AUGUST.IF SEN OBAMA CAN'T STAND UP TO A HARMLESS "ATTACK AD", HOW WILL HE RESPOND TO A TERRORIST ATTACK OR ANOTHER KATRINA ? SEN OBAMA SHOW SOME BALLS AND DEBUNK THIS "IMPOTENT", YES "IMPOTENT " AD.
This is why the NC Repuplican party is viewed as one of the most radical and out of touch branches in the nation...it was only 40 years ago that they were advocating eugenics (sterilizng young women who had children, mostly black by the way) for gods sake...
