Clinton presses Obama for NC debate

Posted: Friday, April 25, 2008 11:19 AM by Mark Murray

From NBC/NJ's Mike Memoli
JACKSONVILLE, NC -- Clinton continued pressing Obama for a debate here this morning, saying that each state has a unique set of issues that deserve discussion.

Clinton, joined outside a fire house near Camp Lejune by retired military leaders, told several hundred supporters that she was happy the campaign has continued in North Carolina, because there is “no better place to be in the springtime.” She made a pitch for her campaign’s interactive “NC Ask Me” feature, in which people can submit questions online and get an answer -- some of which have been used in television ads.

“It has been great, and we’ve gotten over 14,000 questions,” she said. “We have answered every one of those questions. But the only question I can’t answer is why Sen. Obama won’t debate me in North Carolina. And I’d sure like to give an answer.”

She said that each upcoming state deserves their own debate, because “the issues in Pennsylvania are not the same as the issues in North Carolina,” and “the issues in North Carolina aren’t the same as the issues in Indiana."

“There’s all kinds of issues that we should be debating about right here in North Carolina,” she said. “So again I offer that I’ll go anywhere at any time. And we’ll have that debate as long as Sen. Obama would agree to actually meet me. I think that would be good for the voters and it would be good for this important campaign.”

Today, Clinton also encouraged supporters to vote early, immediately after the event even at the fire station just feet from where she stood. “It’s an opportunity for those who have busy lives like most of us these days to actually go in and vote,” she said.

She again promised an active campaign in the Tar Heel State, and even asked for the crowd’s help in keeping an eye on her husband’s eating habits.

“My husband loves North Carolina, and he loves barbecue,” she said. “And he’s been eating a lot of it across the state.”

The former president has held 25 events on five separate trips to the state already, the most recent of which occurred on Wednesday. Someone in the audience urged Clinton to send her husband to the beach for a more nutritious meal.

“Okay, send him to the beach, you’ll serve him fish. That’s a deal,” she said.

So... What, the "most important issues" in PA were all those 3-on-1 assaults on Obama (oh, yeah, they alomst forgot... The economy too, but that's not as important), and the NC issues will be, what, the fact Obama doesn't wear blue ties enough?

It's never been about the issues, Hillary, and you know it. It's about your broke (behind) trying to get free air time to try to sabotage the general... Very petty...
"The only reason she wants to debate him, is so she can try to make him look weak. "

Nobody can make you look weak. You can only make yourself look weak.  This was an opportunity for him to show all of us his cojones and, instead, he got petulant and annoyed.  He has the oratory to put this all to bed right now and he isn't doing it.

Does he think John McCain is going to coddle him?
why bother with another debate-she just wants to show how cute and funny she thinks she  is when realistically she comes off as a glad handing -do anything -burnt out politician. Go home bake cookies for bill and have another beer and a shot of bourbon!
Obama cannot think on the fly so he's weak at debates.
He is best at a teleprompter.
This just goes to show that this hag will do anything including taking down the party to win. She is dillustional if she thinks we going to fall for her new "math".
I think there should absolutely be another debate....but only if it's moderated by Jerry Springer and Joan Rivers and no question can be more than four words and Sen. Obama and Sen. Clinton must use handpuppets to answer and they can only answer using piglatin. Each candidate will also be in a separate sound proof booth.  They will be able to respond only by reading the handpuppet's lips.  Hillary's puppet will be lying of course...  Now, that's a debate...
It's over Hillary. The only surprise after Feb 5 was Maine. Everything else has been 5-8 % within expected. No one expected him to win OH, or PA. Texas was so-so, she was favored and he came close in the primary. He won MS and WY. He will win NC. They will be within 5% in IN. He will lead the pledged delegate count. He will be nominated. And to all the pundits: stop the hyperanalysis. It is becoming really comical.
OBAMA wont debate HILLARY again, one simple reason, OBAMA IS AFRAID because he CANNOT  win when is confronted.

Obama ONLY  can talk, give speeches, BUT when CONFRONTED, he CANNOT stand up... can you imagin what would happen if Obama debate McCain, someone from different party? if Obama cannot debate with Clinton, on the same party, HOW CAN HE DEBATE Mr. McC?
Why in god's name do we need another debate? What we need is for Hillary to stop trying to bloody Obama so badly that he'll lose in 2008 so she can run in 2012.

It is so obvious that that's her plan.

Every day she gets more and more evil. And pathetic.
Why are we even talking about what HRC says and does?

Just because HRC DEMANDS something means NOTHING.

She is already out of this race.

IGNORE HRC and focus on the two GENERAL ELECTION CANDIDATES.

And HRC ain't one of them.

From out in here in rural Kentucky, we're asking,"Why does'nt someone pull this Crazy Bitch off the World stage".

This is for those still voting in the State of Denial, 1+1=2 .
Hmmm...think that's called the let's distract voters from the real issues by having a debate pitch.  I'm sorry, if you can't make your case successfully in 21 debates, it isn't going to happen.  Given the focus of the last debate, I wouldn't even consider it if I were the Obama team.  Although I didn't think his performance was great, at this point there is nothing new that can be shed on Rev. Wright and the controversies so why put yourself out there with the perception is that those controversies matter more than they ultimtately do.  Hopefully, this is a sign that Clinton knows that she will lose NC.
I'm curious about this "NC Ask Me" feature, because I can't see it on her website.  I find it hard to believe that she has "gotten over 14,000 questions" and "answered every one."  I have quite a few questions I'd like to hear answered, starting with why she turned her back on a pledge to Iowa, New Hampshire, Nevada, and South Carolina not to seat the delegates after taking their votes in the primaries.
We've had 21 debates thus far.  #22 was scheduled for April 19th but Hillary backed out.  To be honest, I would prefer the candidates speak to me directly instead of answering a bunch of questions that have nothing to do with the issues this country is currently facing.
Dear people of the United States of America,
Why would Barack want to debate Hillary?  He has won.  Is there some spin she has planned to play on him?  People wake up.  She is trying to steal this nomination and if the super delegates allow it, I am willing to wage an all out war against the democratic party.  Clinton's policies and tactics are devisive, cruel and inhumaine.  Have you heard her in North Caroling and Indiana talk????  She sees to have aquired an accent so she can be one of them?  If John Edwards had any balls at all he would come out and support Obama in his state.  That would send Hillary packing.
I believe Obama might want to consider debating here.  I would love to see him bring up her membership in the right-wing nutcase organization called "The Fellowship" or "The Family".  This is some scary stuff - a group of people who are supposedly gathering in a religious group who worship power.  You can find articles about The Family or The Fellowship at several websites including Mother Jones, The Nation (magazine) and The Atlantic Monthly (magazine). When you read about her relationship with this organization and her willingness to use nukes wouldn't we just be getting another George Bush dressed up in a woman's clothes?
Folks, this is all old hat.  Everyone knows Clinton and Obama have already set a record for primary debates, with 21.

Remember:  CLINTON IS BROKE.  Translation:  She needs free publicity.  Hence, her clarion call for debates.

When you are the leading candidate, you don't need to take risks.  Obama earned his lead between February and March.  Hence, he has no need to chase after her.

Everyone saw what happened with "Charlie Gibson's War" nine days ago, when George Stephanopoulos did everything except put on a Hillary lapel pin.  Why should Obama subject himself to a CBS debate moderated by Katie Couric, another Clinton supporter?
Please give Indiana and North Carolina a chance for a debate.  Stop running Mr.Obama.  What are you afraid of?  YOu are the winner already so whats the difference?  I do not think it is in your best interest to not face Hillary in a debate.  Once again you are out of touch with the American people.  You are running away from re-votes in Florida and Michigan, the only thing you are not running away from is your pastor.  Hmmm judgement?
