Big HRC fundraiser defects to Obama

Posted: Friday, April 25, 2008 2:18 PM by Chuck Todd

From NBC's Chuck Todd
One of the things that both Dem campaigns are always nervous about is defectors. In particular, Clinton is more vulnerable to this problem since she's the candidate that is trailing. Well, NBC News has learned that a major fundraiser for Hillary Clinton, former Amb. to Chile Gabriel Guerra-Mondragon is leaving the campaign to join up Barack Obama's campaign. Officially dubbed a "Hillraiser," Guerra-Mondragon raised nearly $500,000 for Clinton's campaign, according to some estimates. He has been informing people inside Clintonworld this week in what's been described as some tough conversations. A formal announcement of a role for Guerra-Mondragon on Obama's national finance committee will be made next week.  Guerra-Mondragon was appointed Amb. to Chile by Pres. Clinton in '94 and served until '98.

Among the reasons for Guerra-Mondragon to defect, according to one informed source, was he was uneasy with the tone of the Clinton campaign and was beginning to worry about what this would mean for the general election.

It's unclear if this defection will lead to others; the Clinton camp has been particularly effective at getting folks to keep their powder dry. For Obama, this comes at a time when his campaign is trying to re-convince insiders that the math indicates he has the nomination virtually wrapped up. In addition, Guerra-Mondragon's defection could serve as a tipping point with some key Hispanic Democratic leaders that Obama is ready to start making a bigger effort to court Hispanics.

Great. Sorry he can't get a refund, though. Half a million dollars.
This whole debate about who is winning is stupid and David Gregory, Pat Buchanan, and Joe Scarborough are racists who enjoy this mess.  They are the most dishonest people in the media (I refuse to refer to them as journalists) b/c they know Billary can not win, yet they "pundit" as if she has a chance.
Is there any reason to believe that Obama can trust this person any more than Hillary could?
Reconvince?  The math doesn't lie!  HRC's campaign is the only one trying to pull the wool over the world's eyes and, unfortunuately, the mainstream media is buying it hook, line and sinker.  STOP THE MADNESS - we can see through it, we're over it, and we're not tuning in.  The Clinton Narrative is stale already.
He's seen and heard enough of the lies, race-baiting, class-baiting embarrassing desperation shown by the Clintons...I used to actually like the Clintons but after what I've seen during this primary...I think Bill is desperate to get HER back in the White House so he can stay in NY and try to get laid since he probalby has not had "any" since Monica!!
YYYYYYEEESSSSS

Obama 08!
It is amazing to me that anyone in the Clinton camp would cite the tone of the campaign as a reason for leaving to go to the Obama camp.  Please read Geoff Garins editorial in the main section of the Washington Post today.

While Mr. Garin is a strategist in the Clinton camp he clearly, concisely and calmly (in comparison to the obamians) points out the truth in what most even handed observers have to see as the major difference in tone between the two camps.

You see it in blogs and occassionally hear it from the horses mouth the most negative mudslinging and personal attacks are committed day in and day out by obama and his followers....it is disgusting and for anyone to say they are leaving Clinton for Obama based on that is truly someone for whom I have no respect.
Yet another piece of the general election pie falling into place.
Nice to know that some people still use reason and logic  to decide who to support.
It's will be interesting to see how many core Hillary supporters have been turned-off by the subtle divisive tones of her campaign. I used to love the Clintons, but I believe they have forgotten what is most important and only worry about personal goals.

This is apparent in the campaigns ever changing views on the election process:

1. First delegates are what matter, now it's popular vote.
2. First Hillary agrees that Florida and Michigan don't and won't count , now they should.
3. When Hillary had the money advantage they spent poorly, now that Obama has a money advantage he tried to by Pennsylvania.
4. When the media was being tough on her it was not fair, now that they're tough Obama she quotes Harry Truman.

Sooner or later someone has to remind the Clintons that Democratic  Party's chances of beating McCain dwindle with the kitchen sink tactics they have decided are the only way they can win.

Chuck Todd said it best the other day, 'That if this was a state primary it would have been called.'
The witch is dead, the wicked witch of the east is dead!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes WE CAN!!
Hillary is going down.
this is awesome.. I truly believe it's more to this. I think it's the way HRC is handling the money!
Perhaps there are some in her campaign with a sense of decency and whose first concern is for the party rather than Hillary. Welcome!
It's wonderful news for Obama, but Hillary, the MSM, and her surrogates from hell will spin this into something about what Obama did.
How many more Clinton insiders (Reich, Richardson) have to slam the door on Hill and Bill before they get the message?
Muah Muah Muah!!! Well Bill will have to go do a speaking engagement with some Columbia Trade folks or another foreign nation to make up for this loss. LOL
Hey, Chuck, when are you going to update the board with the accurate figures of 54% to 45% for the PA primary...  It WASN'T a double digit win...

Just more spin...
More and more supporters are seeing that the empress has no clothes.
THE FOULMOUTHED & LYING CLINTONS

by
Reinhold Aman, Ph.D.
Millions of Americans still admire Bill and Hillary Clinton, whose habitual lies, gutter language, anti-Semitic outbursts, and anti-black slurs have been documented by reliable writers but which have been -- and still are -- routinely suppressed by the liberal media. This article serves to counter and expose that shameless misleading of the public about the true character of America's two supreme actors and how they talk in private.

Larry Patterson confirmed that he frequently heard Bill Clinton use "nigger" to refer to both Jesse Jackson and local Little Rock black leader Robert "Say" McIntosh. Longtime Clinton paramour Dolly Kyle Browning corroborated Patterson on Clinton's use of "nigger." "Not only did he use the 'N' word, he called him a 'GDN' [goddamn nigger], if you catch my drift," Browning told Fox News in 1999. [NewsMax, 17 July 2000] Brown also told NewsMax that the president would regularly make derogatory comments about African-Americans in private. "He has used the 'N' word before. Bill would make snide remarks about blacks behind their backs." [Carl Limbacher and NewsMax Staff, 17 July 2000]

Patterson said Hillary was no stranger to the "N" word either. He heard her say "nigger" "probably six, eight, ten times. She would be upset with someone in the black community and she would use the 'N' word, like, you heard they've got the president's brother on tape using the 'N' word." [NewsMax, 17 July 2000]
Go obama!  All that racial divide of Hillary's supporters and people threartneing to vote for McCain is turning people off.  If Obama is so bad, why did Clinton ask him to be her VP, to use him that's what.  I can't believe that there is STILL a huge racial divide in America (both sidess).
It must be suffocating to be inside the Clinton tent right now. In-fighting, accusations, exhaustion and the knowledge that for all your efforts you are going to lose and worse, be associated with a campaign doing it's best to destroy the Democratic Party rather than concede.

Often, one defection brings others, or at least of staffers scurrying to get another job before it's too late. This is a really big get for Obama and could very well be a signal for others that it's time to move, settle this and aim at November.

Or, it's possible the man is just disgusted at the tactics. We all knew the Repubs would do it; we didn't want to think our own would do it. But as has been said on First Read this morning, many Democratic leaders remember the party's losses during the Clinton years. They have always been about themselves, not the party.
Do you guys actually go to journalism school?  I was wondering b/c it doesn't seem as though you do your job.  Why isn't the Pentagon pundit scandal all over your MSNBC coverage?  You were duped I guess is why you want to keep it quiet.  Everyone reading should consider why they don't discuss this problem and wonder how many other "guests" they've had have been in the tank for unsavory people.
i think that if the media was covering clintons misspeaks and such as much as obama there would be no perception problem for anyone.  even chris mathews said that this was about the media pushing that hillary is still in this.  i was ready for this to happen and was not surprised.  i am a bit sad about it though. i hope more supers will see the light before they destroy the possibility of a democrat in office.  i fear it may be too late already.
Wow!
Glad this happened - a tide will follow. People are fed up with Hillary's negativity.
Hear that Clinton fans, The Fat lady is clearing her throat. The adults of the Democratic party are starting to step up and do what is right.  It is amazing how many major players have left her campaign for one reason or another.  This is the story of Election 2008; Not Flag pins or where someone went to church.
People do not want their names associated with a candidate who exhibits a willingness to denigrate one of their own, and to do so in such a surgical manner.
he was promised another job by the obamanas---way to go--he will have a lifetime job as he jumps from side to side.
This is just another sign that people are loosing their faith in HRC.  Time to bow out gracefully!
Let' see,..."$10 million raised in 24 hours", minus $500,000, equals...more embarassment for the Clintons?
Guerra-Mondragon obviously knows that the Clinton "New Math" simply doesn't add up.  Clearly the tone of the Clinton campaign has changed from bad to desperately worse and it is damaging to the democratic party for the general election in November.  Perhaps the mighty Clinton Machine is beginning to breakdown internally.   You can keep that machine polished on the outside for all to admire, but the truth is that this machine is just old and worn out.  Guerra-Mondragon is just one of many good democrats who bought the Clinton "used car salesman" sales pitch, but now has come to realize the lemon that he was about to purchase.  Hopefully all the other good democrats supporting HRC will listen to their conscience and abandon ship and grab onto the life raft that Obama has to offer.  Like with all sinking ships, hopefully Captain Clinton will go down with her sinking ship.
I am glad that finally people are realizing that the Clintons are not about the people or the democratic party but only about pursuing their own power agenda.  I hope this would reinvigorate Obama's campaign.  I am beginning to worry that we may lose the best chance we have to the white house.  As a democrat and as african american, I will not vote for the HRC if she wins the nomination.  By the way, is there a way that Obama can run as an independent if that happens and what would it mean for the general election?
Great. Sorry he can't get a refund, though. Half a million dollars.
I am thrilled to have read of Senor Mondragon's "defection" from camp clinton........I too
am worried by its tactics and welcome additional Obama
support at this, a most cvrucial time for his campaign.
Another one bites the dust...and another one's gone, and another one's gone...Give it up, Hil.  This time around just isn't your time. Why destroy the Party and your and Bill's legacies for this quixotic ego-trip?
The NOMINATION is wrapped up.
Good for Obama.  This so goes again the current (but no doubt short-lived) media narrative that Clinton actually has a chance to steal this thing.  It's preposterous.  This defection seems pretty significant, as does Obama's partnering with the DNC to help raise funds for them (whereas Hillary is not).  Not to mention Obama's voter registration drive.
And so the unraveling continues. No matter how hard the Clinton Campaign tries to deceive the American people that they deserve this nomination by labeling themselves as fighters, the truth is they don't. The Clinton Campaign is imploding from the inside out because its very foundation has become based on spreading negativity and focusing on the weaknesses of the opponent and not the strenghs of its own candidate. Weak messages create weak outcomes. Hillary and Bill Clinton have already damaged their name and legend so I guess they figure why not completely erase their reputations from the face of the earth and tear down the Democratic Party as a bonus. It certainly makes for good T.V.

R.I.P. The Clintons
hillary is toast. she has no shame, with her current anything to win mantality.
Frankly now I can read between the spin.  The 50 state voter registration drive, the DNC fund raising pact, Sam Nunn and others and this.  He is, for sure the nominee.
That's good.  Throwing good money after bad is horrible idea.
This news is a big relief. It's long past time for the movers and shakers to stop buying the media line that this race is a "tie" or somehow even. They're just trying to boost their ratings and sell newspapers, folks -- trying to keep the drama alive long after the Obama nomination is actually in the bag!
Let the tsunami begin.
