Delegate update: NM SEN backs Obama

Posted: Monday, April 28, 2008 3:26 PM by Domenico Montanaro

From NBC's Domenico Montanaro
Obama just picked up the support of Sen. Jeff Bingaman (NM), the campaign announced. Bingaman chairs the Energy and Natural Resources Committee. Obama leads among senators 15-12 among senators, not including those from Michigan and Florida. But factoring in even the support Clinton has from Sens. Debbie Stabenow (MI) and Bill Nelson (FL) -- Carl Levin (MI) is uncommitted -- Bingaman gave Obama the lead, 15-14. Obama has now picked up five superdelegates to Clinton's two since her nearly double-digit win in Pennsylvania.

SUPERDELEGATES: Clinton 264-242 (289 uncommitted)
PLEDGED: Obama 1,491-1,334

OVERALL: Obama 1,733-1,598

Is the media trying to fool people that Obana can't be elected so why is he keep pick up superdelegates and Clinton NOT don't that tell you something about the quality person he, media  god dam get off the petty stuff and focus on the economy and what the candidates will do to fix it .

Cheers
drip, drip, drip . . .

the Clinton Deathwatch is on . . . it will all be over in a few weeks . . . in spite of everything that the media and Rebublicans will try to do to drag this mess out
Go get 'em Barry. We love you!!! We even love your eccentric pastor, lol!
Sincerely,
Average White Woman, ready for Change!!!
Boo Yeah! Spin That.
The more negativity HRC & her supporters spit out, the more superdelegates BHO picks up.  He's a true gentlemen who will lead this country to a new era of respect, while she screams threats of nuclear attacks.  Obama will be our nominee and will trounce McSame.
It's all about the Delegates.

Point Number 1: If the popular vote determined the nominee, no candidate would ever go to Iowa or New Hampshire. They'd spend all their time in big urban areas all over the country from the outset of the campaign, racking up raw numbers. What would be the point of even visiting New Hampshire if you could camp out in Brooklyn? Concrete Example: Barack Obama would not have spent only a day and a half in California before the Feb 5 primary. He would have never gone to Idaho. Duh.

Point Number 2: If the popular vote determined the nominee, no state in its right mind would ever hold a caucus, instantly disenfranchising itself. Concrete example: Minnesota-Missouri. Minnesota gets credit for 214K votes, and Missouri gets 822K votes, but they each get 72 delegates. Is Missouri's voice 4 times more important than Minnesota's?

Point Number 3: The arbitrary distinction between who gets to vote in these primaries is nothing like the general election, where everyone registered gets to vote. In the primaries, sometimes it's just Dems, sometimes Dems and Indies, sometimes anyone. Concrete example: Texas gets a million more votes than similar overall population New York (2.8M to 1.8M), even though New York is far more Democratic, simply due to this arbitrary restriction on who can vote (NY = closed, Texas = open).

Overall point: regardless of the fact that Obama will win the popular vote, it is completely illegitimate in this race. THIS IS NOT LIKE POPULAR VOTE IN THE GENERAL ELECTION.
A super a day keeps the "Monster" away!
Way to go, Sen. Bingham!

Just figured out why Hillary does better among late-deciding voters than among others. It's her grip on the low-information voter ... people who keep saying they are undecided are the less-interested, less-involved and LESS INFORMED. Earlier studies have shown that Hillary does best among the less informed, hence her victory in Florida where there was no campaigning, just name identification. Now, if she can just keep everyone away from information ... Nope, still no chance.

Obama won this race on Feb. 5. Everything since is just chatter. No wonder he's bored.
I would hope that more super delegates would step forward and endorse Senator Obama.  After hearing Pastor Wright speak more in the last few days this has become a non issue regarding the Obama campaign. Let's move on a put closure to this campaign. Even if Hillary or Obama should win Indiana it will be close with close to zero net delegates. It is likely that Clinton/Obama will split the remaing primaries. But I do think Hillary should stay in until she honestly feels this is hurting the democratic party.
Why would Senator Bingamen do this?  Obama cannot and will not win the nomination.  Senator Clinton and Rev. Wright have effectively destroyed the character of this man.  I am an Obama supporter but I am also a realist.  Clinton set out to destroy Obama and has succeeded in her endeavor.  There is no way Obama can recover to win the nomination now.  Look at the polls.  He is taking a nose dive in the polls.  Clinton has slashed his NC lead in half and has built a double digit Indiana lead.  I really wanted to see Obama as president but that is not possible now.  Therefore I WILL be casting my vote for McCain in November.  I will also vote Republican on EVERY down ballot race in November.  I will NEVER support a political party that allows one candidate (Clinton) to destroy a fellow member of her party.  Congratulations President McCain and congratulations on your Republican majority in congress.
GREAT NEWS!  Now everyone come out of the woodwork PLEASE!  We need this to be OVER.  It is NOT helping the party to prolong this madness.  What dummy said it was helping the party in the first place!!
That's the way..........just keep them coming!!!
More supers for Obama
what about Arizona???
To the Obama Nation

The Wright appearances are part of the plan to finally rid Barack of this supposed stigma. Be cool
How big has that flood of support from the super delegates for Hillary Clinton been since the Pennsylvania primary a week ago anyway?
How many governors?  Senators?  Members of congress?
Yep.  Been a big show of support from all of those so concerned with the "electability" argument.
Must be these poo paas are more concerned with Hillary & Bill than anyone else.
Please keep current the complete  delegate count . On your website the superdelegate and delegate count is incorrect.  The front page superdelegate for Obama should be 242 and the delegate is 1491 isn't it?  Thanks, Theresa
The Supers keep moving in Obama's direction.

OBAMA 08
23 Super delelegates and Obama will lead in all the relevent counts--that will happen within 10 days. Math matters! Forget the Poll being put forth--see the average polls counts ---Obama ahead. He will win the nomination. The Clinton family affair is toast.

Go Bama!!!!!!!!!!!!!
MDW
Interesting that Clinton has not added any Senators since Super-Tuesday, over two months ago.  Since then Obama has added EIGHT!

If she is so "electable" why haven't the people that know her best endorsed her?
I will hold this guy accountable. He is trying to bump- up Obama when people are beginning to have serious doubts about him. Obama isn't going to win a general election and I am going to remember all these punks and hold them accountable.
Wow!!  An actual positive comment for Obama from MSNBC today??  Did someone have a flash moment of journalistic clarity??  For all the time being given to speculation and posturing on the impact of Rev Wright, how about giving an equal amount of time to the Clinton issue in CA being put on hold until AFTER the November election by the Clinton-supporting JUDGE; or the push polling being done in NC by the Clintons; or the impact of Clinton's willingness to obliterate Iran; or the flipflopping and lies coming out of the McCain campaign ~ you know, like Obama not understanding the economy the way that McCain does?????

Just what is the standard for journalism anymore?  When I was in school (back in the OLD days of the 50's) what is going on in media today would be considered yellow journalism at BEST.  I'm so disappointed that MSNBC and CNN have now joined the ranks of Fox News ~ jumping on the opinion bandwagon doesn't equal presenting the news.  Keith and Rachel, how do you manage to maintain your clear perspective in the flood of such bias?
Love it, keep them coming.
One by One, we fill the basket. Thank U Senator Bingaman.
We will overcome.. Barack because integrity matters.
Why don't you update the superdelegate count on the webpage?  It still says 262-238.  Is there anyway that you can report the preference of superdelegates that have openly done so?  I enjoy the page that tells us who the superdelegates are, but there is no way for us to no who has already decided and who they support.  thank you.
Drip Drip Drip.

ANOTHER Super D for Obama.

That makes 5 for him since Pennsylvania.

Go Obama!!!!
Looks like Clinton's spin is not working out.  They think every one in America is fool except the Hubby and Wife trio.
Check the Superdelegate and Pleged count. From what is on the the Polictal page, the count does not match.
Man I hope Denver is prepared for these two when they show up. It's a nice town. It doesn't deserve what's coming.
Even with the "Wright Nontroversy" the drip continues. Clinton has made it QUITE obvious that she doesn't give a sh*t about her own party, or the people whose votes she's courting. She didn't give a crap about blue collar voters until she needed them.

I have such utter disgust for this soul-less woman, that it can not be described in words.
This will keep happening, especially after today.  The superdelegates will never overturn elected delegates, especially when there is such a potential incendiary reaction that could follow.

An additional questions on the delegate count.

What about Edwards 18 or so Delegates?

With such a small margin, could he could still be kingmaker.

If Edwards endorses candidate X, are his delegates obligated to vote for candidate X or do they become, in effect, superdelegates?

Anybody with thoughts or answers.
Since the PA primary (which was decided by less than 10% after having been 25% before campaigning)all of the media has been writing about is Obama's "unelectability".

I would think, given Obama's lead in delegates, states won and general vote that we should be talking about the upcoming General Election.

I am a mid-60's white disenfranchised voter who hasn't participated in elections since the early 60's (always a choice of the lesser of evils).

It would please me no end to see the other supers pledge their support of Obama so this b.s. can end and the election process continue.

Thank you Senator Bingaman!!
Here we go again - another Senator who seems to have missed the Clinton pronouncement that Obama is unelectable. Why, I asked, have 18 Democratic senators not seen the light? And what about those 14 Democratic governors as well? What's wrong with these people? Don't they understand that the queen's corornation cannot be undone by the will of the people?
This is good news.  However, I feel that the coverage given to the Rev. Wright is way off base.  It is as if you are campaigning for McHillary all day long..This has taken a rather sharp turn, since the debate.  I feel it has more to do with the Obliteration Theory that Clinton espoused, than any other issue.  She did not do so well that your turning on a dime so suddenly, merits.  I was especially disgusted during the bitter controversy, I counted your correspondents saying bitter 12 times in less that 1/2 hour.  You are not fooling anyone.
Please get this mesaage to the rest of the media, who think Rev. Wright is running for president and Hillary is running away with it all of a sudden.
Please update the number of US Reps and US Senators endorsing the candidates as Superdelegates.
