'If you'd had my life you'd be tough, too'

Posted: Monday, April 28, 2008 4:45 PM by Domenico Montanaro

From NBC/NJ’s Mike Memoli
SALISBURY, NC -- Hillary Clinton used her latest proposal on oil prices to portray herself as the fighter in the race, telling a few hundred people at the local train station here that she’d be their champion in the White House.

This morning, Clinton unveiled a plan to tax oil company “windfall” profits to pay for a gas tax holiday, which she said would provide needed relief for working-class Americans, who have seen energy costs take up greater percentage of their incomes. Here, she also discussed plans to create new jobs in a push to move toward energy independence, while outlining tough tactics she’d employ against oil producing countries to keep oil prices in line.

“Now, none of this is easy to do, but I don’t think we have a choice,” she said. “We can continue to be at the mercy of the … oil countries, which will mean that our standard of living will continue to decline. We will not recognize America. We will not recognize the American middle class. So we can either say, ‘OK, fine we’ll just kind of go along and, you know, elect somebody who’s nice or elect somebody who’s gonna continue the Bush policies. Or we can elect somebody who’s gonna fight for you. That is the choice in this election.”

Amid cheers, she made clear which candidate is that fighter.

“Now, I know there are some people who say, ‘Oh my goodness, she is tough. Well, if you’d had my life you’d be tough, too.”

She urged those in the crowd to vote early, before Friday’s deadline. And in closing, added one last dig at her Democratic opponent.

“I wish it were true that you could go to Washington and say, ‘I want everybody to come together and just agree with me, and then let's just make these changes, because we all know we're supposed to do it,” she said. “I wish it were that simple. Because, boy, we sure could make change in a hurry.”

Three times during Clinton’s speech, trains passed by, some faster than others. The first time, as Clinton discussed oil, she waved at a caravan of tankers passing by. When another train came a-chugging, she interjected some of her views on rail travel.

“I love trains,” she said. “Someday I would hope we’d have passenger trains again that would be going through Salisbury. I think that would make a lot of sense; it would save us a lot in energy bills and, as our country ages, which we are, which is a good problem, it’ll give more people mobility than they might have otherwise. But that’s for another day.”

Obviously Hillary has nothing to say about Amtrak LOL.

Yeah just hit those mean old oil companies and take their money.  That way they can sit on the profits for a while while they shut down U.S. oil exploration and we can see prices go higher.

I remind people of the famous Hillary Clinton speech in June 2006 when she said "If you want lower gas prices, vote for a democrat".  Gas has now risen 84% sent she made that statement.

Hillary Clinton
A liar for all seasons
"windfall"?!?!  whatever.  the cost will always be passed on to the consumer.
Is she Kidding?! The woman and her husband mad $109 million over the past few years, she has been first lady or Senator for decades - Really tough. Wish I had it that tough.

Please.
Hillary Clinton should just sit and watch Obama's camp go up in flames.
That 100 million a year income sure must be "tough"...
Her life.....troubles???  The troubles she could erase with that $109 million she and Willy have taken in.  I hate it when she tries to play "common".
It's funny that Clinon keeps saying that she's a fighter.  There is a lot of fighting in Washington but that has not produced any real solutions to the American people.

We are tired of all the fighting.  We need to solve our numeruous problems that have escalated while politicians are fighting in Washington.
She's tough alright . . . so tough that she's universally reviled and 100% unelectable

PAY ATTENTION PEOPLE . . . WHY DO YOU THINK THAT kARL ROVE AND THE OTHER REPUBLICAN STRATEGISTS ARE SUPPORTING HER???

THEY ARE TERRIFIED OF OBAMA'S MOVEMENT AND WANT TO RUN AGAINST CLINTON!!!
Is there anyone out there that just wants a president with integrity, good communication skills, who is smart, capable, and wise?  Anyone?
The past 12 years has shown that fighers dont get anything done in Washington. Hillary indeed has had a tough life - with the time spent dodging sniper fire. If the election would be won based on perceived toughness, McCain would be the next president! We need to get things done, the country has move backwards long enough.

However, first some questions that need answers and not by trying to bully the fronrunner into a mud slinging debate:

(1) Can one accurately say you are implicitly spending Columbia's money while you claim to be against their trade deal since you fie a joint tax with Bill and he took 800K from them?

(2) If you are very serious about this opposition to the deal, why would you not fire your top staff member that collects money for promoting the deal you oppose?

(3) As a follow up to the Bosnia story (the way they kept hounding Barack): Can you call it a mispeak if you repeated the same falsehood three times?
Is Bill's explanation accurate that this happens when one 60 and getting a little forgetful?

(4) Do you believe that Barack is indeed elitist compared to you considering that you also went to Yale and made 110 million last year?

(5) Peter vs. Paul: Does this suit claiming payments in exchange for potential favors not keep dogging you folks not present a problem against the GOP - if not at worst another impeachment or white house trial?

(6) Does she believe saying MCCain is qualified to be president and so is she but not Obama is worse than saying anybody is better than Bush including McCain but both Democrats are better than McCain

(7) If Romney outspent McCain 4 to 1 and is out of the race are we stupid in believing your spin that the spending is so important compared to more and more attacks (that many folks who are used to the old politics cant see through) who wins or the fact that 80% of the state's party mchine including governor and mayors (and voting machines not working in strategic) places

(8) You were nodding when he defended you on Bosnia in the debate and then turned right back and gave more slime (about serving on the same board on a charity with a non-convicted weatherman of 20 + years - again making him guilty by association on acts committed when he was 8 by serving on a board whose's member he did not elect). Do you believe his minimal (almost non) association with this man is worse as your husband pardoning members of the same organization.
A fighter is just what we don't need.

Let's try a "UNITER" for a change and perhaps something will actually get accomplished in Washington for the first time since the Bush / Clinton merry-go-round began.
I think Jeramiah Wright has shown to be such a jerk that he may actually help Obama. Obama might garner sympathetic reaction because he tried to stay loyal to his pastor although it would have been expedient to have thrown him under the bus.  But what did the pastor do in return?  He basically threw Obama under the bus!!  The old adage "with friends like this, who needs enemies" is something every voter can relate to.
Senator Clinton, I can't imagine what it must have been like for Senator Obama to grow up with a white mother and black father who deserted his family in the early 1960's.

He, unlike most of us, has and continues to fulfill all the potential he has in him.

He doesn't cry about his past, he doesn't whine about it.

He managed to take the positive out of his experiences and because of this, he has much to offer - much to teach upcoming generations.

I can't believe anyone told him during his lifetime that he could quite possibly become the democratic nominee.

Unlike you Senator Clinton. You were married to a former president. You were elected Senator from NY because you were married to a former president.

You have been given much. Senator Obama had to go out and earn it.

And all you and your husband can do is ridicule him.

Hillary Rodham Clinton is an amazing woman who has led an amazing life. Her lifetime of public service is admirable. Hillary is clearly the most qualified and most electable candidate in the race. She will be a GREAT President!

The Dems would be foolish to nominate the unqualified and unelectable Obama. His "mentor" Jeremiah Wright is imploding again today with yet more incendiary diatribes. Wow. Wright is the gift that keeps on giving. Obama's defiant refusal to completely disassociate himself from Wright is a fatal mistake to his candidacy now and in any future campaigns.

Jeremiah Wright is a lunatic. A dangerous lunatic. Apparently, Wright is thought of as a "leader" in his community. Appalling at best. Wright is a racist, anti-semitic, anti-white, anti-American, pro-Farakhaan, nation of islam supporter. Today, Wright refused to retract his outrageous claims that the "U.S. Govt created AIDS to kill black people" and that the "U.S Marines compares to the Roman legionnaries" and that his "church" has supported the communist back Sandanistas. Wow. I can't think of any group of people that Wright did not insult over the last few days. I am Irish and I did not appreciate his anti-Irish rants last night in Detroit.

**VOTE SMART!!  VOTE PATRIOTIC!!  VOTE HILLARY CLINTON
Hilliary Clinton is a desparate old woman that is unhappy in life with a cheating husband that continues to humiliate her.

This fiasco with this election is becoming ridiculous.  She was the "heir" apparent.... it was to be wrapped up after Super Tuesday.  Well, America does not want her... her lies, her "fake" experience, her lobbyist money and her dishonor.

I am a woman and there is no way that I would EVER support a woman that has stayed with a man that has repeatedly belittled, cheated on and humilitated her.  That is not a sign of "toughness" this is a sign of poor self esteem, desparation and poor self image....NOT something I want in a President and NOT a role model for my daughter!

Wake up America!
If I had lived Hillary's life I would have considered myself pretty successful.

Except that my husband cheated on me and I stayed with him
BREAKING NEWS !!! Brent Scowcroft, the national security adviser to Presidents Gerald Ford and George H.W. Bush agrees with Obama's foreign policy plan.
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/04/28/brent-scowcroft-echoes-ob_n_99026.html

Paging McCain.
Hillary's not tough, she's not a fighter, she just likes playing the victim.  When she had a chance to be tough, she caved into George Bush.  She didn't fight that hard at all for those 200,000 jobs that she promised in New York either but instead she blamed her shortcomings on Al Gore.  Her life is so terrible that she has a cool $109 million in the bank.  I wish people would stop buying her line of crap.  The media won't call her on it because they have become prostitutes for ratings and have no regard for reporting truth anymore.
Hillary Clinton can not win a majority of valid elected delegates. If she were to gain the nomination any other way, she and the Democratic Party would sink faster than the Titanic.

Time to move on.
Pretty certain all of the tough talk is coming straight out of the Clinton campaign.  Keep it real; no one thinks she's tough.  Nasty, mean and crude, now those are HRC traits!
Hillary has stolen Barack's stump speech.  Obama voted for the energy bill, that she has attacked him for, because it had renewable energy legislation attached to it.

Hillary bobs her head up, and down because, that is a jesture taught to salespersons to help them close the deal on a sale. I know, because I am a salesperson.
"If You'd Had My Life, You'd Be Tough, Too"

Just what in the heck is that supposed to mean? Where did she go to school? One of the Seven Sisters and then to the Ivy League. Maybe if she would stop fighting with everybody and become a normal person, she would enjoy life much more.

And we have got to get tough with the oil producing countries. If they don't give us their oil cheap, we will just invade them and take it. Oh, that's right, we kind of did that with Iraq. This lady is getting to be nuts. I guess she has to run her mouth and say whatever each little audience wants to hear.
So she's from the mean streets of where?

This is hilarious.  I guess Blue Collar Democrats are the equivalent of rappers from the ghetto who have street cred.
Huge difference between being a fighter and not having the good sense or decency to know when you're beaten and leave gracefully.

It's too bad she'll have to be shown the door.
To those who like to point out the income of the Clintons for the last 7 years, I'd like to ask if a one of YOU has donated 10% of your gross income to charity as the Clintons did?

Or has Obama?

The answer is NO.

Put up or shut up.
She makes a good point about not being able to just show up in Washington and have everyone agree to "change".

My problem with her campaign at this point is that I no longer believe she has ANY CHANCE of being able to "work with" anyone on either side of the isle in Washington.

Senator Barack Obama has consistently stated that his goal is to work with all parties to get tthe job done. I can agree that he cannot guarantee success, but I can also guarantee there will be no successful changes made without being able to at least start the dialogue(s).

Senator Clinton has convinced me that her strong suit is tearing people down, not working with them. Her style of management leaves much to be desired.

Her mocking tone when she speaks of "Hope" and "Change", has convinced me that she is hopelessly married to the politics of the past; and has no desire to see effective change take place.

She does not seem to realize that when she mocks Senator Obama; she mocks all of us in the current social, economic, and political climate who have asked for and are now demanding positive change. (Not just a change in party.)
TOUGH!?????????  When has she walked in a black person's shoes?  Any struggles she's had were self-inflicted.  She's lived a life of power and wealth.  Feel SORRY for her?  When pigs fly!
Hillary - please stop. I can't focus on work because I'm laughing too hard to concentrate. First of all, the gas tax amnesty idea has got to be the most stupid proposal of all time. Gee, while we are at it, let's just get rid of all taxes. So, Hill - where are we going to get the money to rebuild our highways that are full of potholes and our bridges that are falling down? Oh, that right, we'll put tolls on them to pay for reconstruction. That's not really a tax. It is called a user fee.

Let's give her some kudos. She is the first candidate to address the rail system and Amtrak which the Republicans have been trying to kill for years at the encouragement of the airline lobyists. Trains work well for Europe. It would also relieve the congested air corridors which are becoming unsafer by the minute.
IF YOU'D HAD MY LIFE YOU'D BE TOUGH, TOO'

-Hillary

That sounds more like a warning.

Hillary: The abused woman/abused child syndrome.
HP of Boston writes:
"If I had lived Hillary's life I would have considered myself pretty successful.

Except that my husband cheated on me and I stayed with him"

You're right.  And the Republican way is to cheat and then divorce.

Divorce.

Now THERE is a "family value" this country should embrace.

You people make me sick.
To “jerry/corpus christi texas” stop making yourself look like a fool. HRC is the only one running for president that can bring this nation back. Its time for Obambi and his hate filled pastor, slum lord friends and terrorist fundraiser to depart.  His campaign is a just a BAD JOKE.
"“Now, I know there are some people who say, ‘Oh my goodness, she is tough. Well, if you’d had my life you’d be tough, too.”"

Really?  Must've been a b____ to grow up in a wealthy family, to go to Wesley and Yale, to become first lady and to make $109M in 7 years.  Oh, woe is me.  To have 4 states to claim as my home...oh, boo hoo.

Let's trade lives for a week, HRC.  Actually, I dare you to trade spots with any of the "working class" voters you supposedly attract and see what an asinine statement that is.

I see several HRC supporters slamming Obama as usual, but still aren't telling us WHY to vote for her!  Don't just say "she's a fighter" - tell me WHAT SHE HAS FOUGHT FOR!

Clueless thy name is Clinton.
JUST A REMINDER:

THE FOULMOUTHED & LYING CLINTONS

by
Reinhold Aman, Ph.D.
Millions of Americans still admire Bill and Hillary Clinton, whose habitual lies, gutter language, anti-Semitic outbursts, and anti-black slurs have been documented by reliable writers but which have been -- and still are -- routinely suppressed by the liberal media. This article serves to counter and expose that shameless misleading of the public about the true character of America's two supreme actors and how they talk in private.

Larry Patterson confirmed that he frequently heard Bill Clinton use "nigger" to refer to both Jesse Jackson and local Little Rock black leader Robert "Say" McIntosh. Longtime Clinton paramour Dolly Kyle Browning corroborated Patterson on Clinton's use of "nigger." "Not only did he use the 'N' word, he called him a 'GDN' [goddamn nigger], if you catch my drift," Browning told Fox News in 1999. [NewsMax, 17 July 2000] Brown also told NewsMax that the president would regularly make derogatory comments about African-Americans in private. "He has used the 'N' word before. Bill would make snide remarks about blacks behind their backs." [Carl Limbacher and NewsMax Staff, 17 July 2000]

Patterson said Hillary was no stranger to the "N" word either. He heard her say "nigger" "probably six, eight, ten times. She would be upset with someone in the black community and she would use the 'N' word, like, you heard they've got the president's brother on tape using the 'N' word." [NewsMax, 17 July 2000]

I have been following this election with a tremendous degree of concern and interest. I have switched party affiliations from Rep. to Dem. and voted UNDECIDED in the Dem. Primary in Michigan because my candidate was not on the ballot. I can understand everyone’s concern, alarm, and upset at the events taking place in America during this Primary season. I have a thought that I want to insert into the equation.
I feel that there is a great chasm between awareness and education as it pertains to the events we are all commenting on. It is one thing to be aware of something that is reported on here. It takes a relatively small level of education to read and a similar level of education to process what you have read into an initial opinion. I think it takes a considerably higher level of education and ability to reason for a person to be able to take that same data and translate it into a well rounded and informed opinion that is balanced and sound in it's origin. I, for one, think that much of what we are getting from the media and the opposing campaigns amounts to pablum designed for us to produce a reflex and ill-informed opinion. I am a strong supporter of Senator Obama and I have made that decision based on many different pieces of information obtained from many varied resources. One thing I have found to be extremely helpful in my decision making is not relying upon any singular media outlet for my daily information on the progress of the campaigns. I fear doing that would be tragic and extremely naive. Unfortunately for our Nation on a global scale, our media has become, to a great degree, nothing more than a video version of the shutter happy paparazzi. They are willing to demean, disparage, undermine and destroy ANY of the candidates if it will draw an audience of greater proportions to satisfy the advertisers that are paying for their airtime. This is a great parallel to the medical/pharmaceutical industry. We, the people are the pawns and victims in both scenarios. All We Like Sheep...staggering bleary eyed toward the screen to obtain our daily dose.
When I finally stopped to think about it, I was first shocked and immediately after that I was offended. I refuse to allow the mainstream media to control my mind and direct my actions. I was raised to respect others rights and opinions. I see great value in all of the candidates and I am not going to allow myself to become a "HATER" of any of them based upon what the media attempts to program me with. They will each meet their elevation to admiration or demise into disrespect based upon what they DO and not what people "spin" about their comments and affiliations. If you want to know what type of tree you are dealing with...LOOK AT THE FRUIT!
It may seem simple, but most good things in our lives are just that...SIMPLE.
Take a breath America...return to center...and study this thing a bit. We are being sold a bag of goods by many of the commentators and the media in general. If we want things to be different in America we have to make something that we are doing change. Continuing to do the same thing while expecting a different result is a sign of insanity. STOP THE INSANITY PEOPLE...Vote for Change! Change we can not only BELIEVE IN, but Change for the better and Change we can LIVE WITH!
GOD BLESS AMERICA...We sure need it!

It will be interesting to see if this makes the post!
"If you had my life, you would be tough, too."

Who is she kidding. None of us have the choice of
who are family is, but we all have the choice to better ourselves if we choose to, and as for Hillary,
with all the money she has, she can make alot of
choices.

And besides, nobody held a gun to her head and made
her marry Slick Willy.

Talk about living in fantasy land.

Obama '08
Yeah ... a life with sniper fire is 'tough'.
if i had 100 million dollars in my bank, my life wouldn't be tough.. oh my god..get real Hillary
I am SO SICK of hearing & reading Hillary calling herself a "fighter."  Why on earth would we want someone in the Oval Office who likes to fight?   How about peace? how about diplomacy?  How about being even-keeled and stabilizing?

oh yeah, I forgot -- this is the woman who would nuke Iran.

Stop fighting Hillary.

OK. Hillary to the head of OPEC, at 3am: "Hi, OPEC. It's Hillary here - from the largest oil consumer and your largest customer. People in the US are really smarting at gas prices. Could you please produce more so that prices at the pump go down".
OPEC head: "$120 a barrel suits us just fine".
Hillary: "Well, I promised my electorate I'd force you to lower your prices."
OPEC head: "Sod off."
Who cares. She'll say anything to get elected... Kitchen sink strategy and other tactics have been used to little avail. Now she resorts to oil prices.
Only a gullible fool will trust her words.
I've been working day in and day out in the Senate to provide leadership to end this war,’ Clinton recently told an audience at George Washington University, but since Democrats took control of Congress, Clinton has done relatively little to advance legislation to force the Bush administration to withdraw from Iraq, according to congressional records and lawmakers and staff members who have worked on the issue.
Instead, Clinton largely remained on the sidelines of the congressional debate, her legislation ignored as the Senate focused on measures developed by lawmakers who were more central to the legislative drive to end the war.”

HRC just cannot tell the truth, got fired for lying.
Who would have thunk it... LOL!!!
Ireland = peace talks...... LOL!!
Bosnia = sniper fire....... LOL!!
Chelsea = Where?.......... LOL!!
NAFTA = I was against it............LOL!!
Open borders in Macedonia........... LOL!!
Oh, and this one comes to mind.
My husband didn`t sleep with that woman, or that woman and that woman either. Yeah right they deserve each other.

Go Obama '08
I wonder if First Read could follow up on this story and verify it.

Tough life?
THATS gonna resonate well with people who know full well they will work the rest of their lives and probably die in debt leaving their children nothing but the "privilege" of strugling for the rest of their lives while the CEO's they work for pull in salary's larger than the GNP's of many countries.
Oh well, their kids can always join the military and give their lives, limbs and souls to the further expansion of the Empire.

SPQR
"Senator Clinton likes to promote herself as a fighter.  She's sort of like her own Dong King.  And it's true, she is tenacious.  But what we need right now isn't a fighter, but a UNITER.  Washington needs someone to bring the petty bickering to end and bridge the partisan divide."

THAT is what Obama should be saying/talking about.  paint her in a corner....
She's a fighter all right. She's fighting tooth and nail to steal the nomination from Obama who is ahead and cannot be caught - unless you use Clinton math.

As a white female, I find her pathetic and embarrassing. Almost as embarrassing as other women who are choosing to vote for solely because she has a vagina, at least, to use a Hillary phrase, she has one "as far as I know"...
The fighter tried to get health care passed in the early nineties, with a Democratic majority in both houses, and her husband as President.  What happened?

How can people possibly buy her line of bull?  If she had not married Bill, no one would know who she was today.  Everything that she has or ever will have, she has because she married Bill Clinton.  How does that qualify as a "strong woman".

It looks like a lot of people are desperate to elect a female president.  I also want to see a female president one day.  Not Hillary Clinton!  We shouldn't have to scrape the bottom of the barrel.  There are plenty of strong, intelligent women, who would make a fine president.  Nancy Pelosi, Condoleeza Rice, and Janet Napolitano come to mind.  They all have something that Hillary Clinton does not have:  integrity.

Obama in 2008.  Integrity matters and the Clintons have none.  Jeff Bingaman is a Judas!

I wager to say that when you have had such a TOUGH LIFE, and you able to cover for a cheating husband, and buy off the judge in California presiding over your husbands criminal trial so you do not have to testify as a material witness until AFTER an election in NOVEMBER, and you are able to flippantly dismiss your LIES about an experience in BOSNIA relating to FICTICIOUS sniper fire...At about that moment...right after the inauguration is complete...then...and not a NEW YORK minute sooner...the skies will open up and angelic choirs will sing...and we will all JUST KNOW that the biggest liar in American History ( that just happens to be female ) has pulled off the biggest electoral CON in our nations history!

Keep the ranting Obamaites.  I keep wondering where your brains are.  He is the least qualified to be president that we have had running in the last few elections.  Instead of being negative toward Hillary, why can you not give a solid reason for voting for Obama.  You can't so you keep throwing slings and arrows.  Sorry, but Hillary is the best qualified to be president and in the end the delegates will see that.  I wonder why we never hear from you about the fact that Mass. has gone to Hillary and the poor ol' boys, Kennedy and Kerry, who couldn't make the grade are standing behind Obama.  That does not seem to me that they are fulfilling the will of the people.  Seems that only works when they go for Obama.  Now who is stealing the election.
Life is tough.. i grew up in suburban PA,  I went to Yale Law... I married a president, made 109 million dollars, travelled all around the world... life is tough tough tough
