A do-nothing Congress?

Do-nothing Congress? Well, not quite.

On this very day your US House will vote to express its "sense" that "there should be established a National Watermelon Month." Later this afternoon, the people's House will move to consider whether to similarly express themselves over "National Funeral Director and Mortician Recognition Day." And then, in a separate bill, it will weigh in on setting aside a day of recognition for this nation's letter carriers.

So when the president and Republicans say that this Congress isn't doing much this year, they may have ground to stand on. But that isn't necessarily at variance with what usually happens in an election year -- especially a presidential election cycle where, no matter what, there will be a new administration come January.

So far this year, the stimulus package has passed, and that's about it. It has been slow going, no question. Behind the scenes, the Democratic leaders are still wrestling with the question of how to handle the president's latest request for war funding, this time for $108 billion. They are looking at legislation to ease the housing crunch. The farm bill has been on the verge of closure for weeks, if not months. And Democrats are clamoring for a second stimulus package for the economy, this time focused on extending unemployment insurance, infrastructure spending, and other items that they failed to pass in the first version.

But none of this is going to be easy. And on the fundamental job of Congress -- to pass spending bills to keep the government functioning -- it is quite possible, if not likely, that Democrats will simply punt it all into next year, thereby giving the new president, who they obviously hope will be one of their own, a clean slate on which to enact new policies and priorities.

NANCY PELOSI ought to be ashamed of herself!!!!

Congress is a MESS!! Unresponsive in addressing the needs of its citizens!!  THIS IS WHAT WAEK AND FAILED STATES DO!!!
Not even liberals can get along with liberals...

Vote for someone who represents the center, the Majority.

Vote for the other Democrat: John McCain
To hear Bush scold the congress for the condition of the economy is amazing. This just shows how out of touch this very dense man is.
Too bad we have a president who won't sign in the bills that "have" been sent to him.

Maybe Obama,  "IF" he gets president, will simper and say "please" to the congress and house.

OBama is a wimp and has no idea how to run this country.  Maybe Rev. Wright will help him.

Olberman Overtly Obaman--

It was funny watching Keith Olberman last night on the Msnbc/Obama news network. He kept asking his panel: "What does Obama have to do to get past the Wright controversy?" Olberman sounded desperate, as though he just wanted Rev. Wright to go away so that the Obama love-fest could go on.

Question: If the press is supposed to question candidates, like Obama, who want to hold public power, then why is Msnbc so in love with Obama?

Obama gives me the creeps.
They all should put the people's problems first NOW.

McCain voted against equal pay legislatin last week. But the so-called hero went down to 'Nawlins', and the deep south last week to pander to Negros, and offer them 50$ an hour to pick lettuce. Heros do not tell lies.
Sen. John McCain is proposing tax cuts that would either cause the federal deficit to explode or would require unprecedented spending cuts equal to one-third of federal spending on domestic programs. Once thought of as a deficit hawk, the near-certain Republican presidential nominee is now putting more stress on the traditional Republican orthodoxy of tax cuts. Altogether, he proposes more than $650 billion in tax cuts a year, much of it benefiting corporations and upper-income families.

McCain's Economic Plan: Fuzzy or Sound?

That criminal Bush has a lot of nerve to chastise anybody. He and his warped administration and his suckling repubs in congress is the cause of this nation going to hell in a handbasket and the ruination of America's status.
Maybe BO will actually oppose funding for the war he is so against rather than point to a speech he made in 2002.

Memo to BO it's 2008, what are you going to do now?  Lets see you take a stand that goes on the record.
Bush is right.  This congress has been a do nothing congress.  I remember Pelosi saying that they were going to do amazing things when she was sworn in.  Guess what??  Congress has not done much.  I think the congressional leadership under Pelosi leaves a lot to be desired. Maybe we should start off with a clean slate in congress. We elect members of congress to do something and they don't.
Dave Chappelle would be proud!!!
I pray, if it is G-D's Will, that Senator Obama will win the Presidency. We desperatly need a change in Washington.
You forgot that Congress is performign its oversight duties, which were shirked when the Republicans constrolled Congress. They're now investigating various Bush scandals, such as the allegations that Karl Rove was involved in a conspiracy to remove US Attorney Fitzpatrick from the Tony Rezko case. Yes, THAT Tony Rezko. But we mustn't talk about that, must we? It would take valuable corporate media time away from blathering about the Rev. Wright, wouldn't it?
Politicians who put their elected positions before the needs of the people are headed for hell.
This Congress cannot do anything while Bush is in office because if Bush doesn't get exactly what he wants, he veto's the bill, like a spoiled little brat.
This do-nothing Congress is NO DIFFERENT than the GOP controlled do-nothing Congress of years past.

It has nothing to do with party people.  It has everything to do with the system in place.  Stop blaming 'liberals' and 'conservatives'.

"Don't hate the player.  Hate the game."

I enjoy what the Dem congress is doing that the GOP congress utterly failed to do for the previous six years -- issue subpoenas, ask questions, hold hearings, block Bush on illegal wiretapping, and attempt to hold this runaway, rogue administration accountable.  Sure, it's an uphill battle.  But at least it's being waged.  If we still had the GOP in the majority on The Hill -- pffffft!
This country's a joke ...we have a do nothing President that allowed the country to go to crap under his watch...He does not lead and try to do anything about anything...He just watches and let his friends get richer and then blames congress...but whenever congress tries to do something positive he Vetos....what is it with this man....He has to be living in another world.
Bush kills me. Nowhere in his speech did I hear the pronoun "I". I guess[in his mind] Congress is solely responsible for the mess this country is in. Like Katrina, Bush claims no responsibility. What a putz.

Counting the days until King George evacuates [the White house!
We should drill for oil.Think of all the jobs that we need here in america. This would creat alot of new ones.We should use our own resourses & become more inpedendant. We could still come up with new power sources while still using our own.Congress is a joke!!! Look at gas prices,They wont do a thing.
The Administration (George W. Bush) is absolutely correct with his complaints about liberals (democrats) in Congress.  It is they who do not care about high food costs and high energy prices.  President Bush has been warning that the energy crisis was coming since he entered the office of President.  Democrats are so busy jumping in bed with the left loonies and winning the Whitehouse that they will again sit this one out while we suffer.  I don't respect any of them.  They lie consistently just to gain power again.
Our economy was thriving prior to the Democrats taking control of Congress. Pelosi and Reid have sabotaged the economy to spite Pres. Bush. The problem is the American citizens are the ones suffering from their political terrorism. Pelosi and Reid should be investigated and possibly impeached!!
Hmmm.  National Watermelon Month, Mortician's Day, Letter Carrier's Day.....clearly the lobbyists from FTD and Hallmark are earning their keep.

But on the whole, if the choice is to have them spend more spending bills with porcine earmarks for "I love me monuments" or debate the merits of National Pork Rind week, then let them have a lengthy debate on plain salted vs barbeque flavor.
Best news about Bush's speech is that he endorses the "gas tax brak" for summer.  That makes Bush, Clinton, and Mccain for the same idea.  That leaves one smart and free thinking sane person who is trying to deal with the real problem with real answers, not some superficial face shaving answer to gain polling points.   Go Barack.
There is no such a thing as free lunch.  All these stimulus packages are just quick political patches for which we will pay dearly.. probably sooner then later.
The Dems promised lower gas prices in order to gain control of Congress. What a sham!!!! What a bunch of liars!! They only wanted in so that they could work against Pres. Bush.
I wouldn't vote for a Democrat ever again, they don't have the American citizens' best interests at heart. They only want to sabotage the system to show their political strength.
Let's get those Dems. out of Washington before they bankrupt the nation.
Time to clean house America.  I'm starting a new movement; "Don't vote for the incumbent".  Time to send a message that this kind of thing will not be tolerated by the American people.
IF CONGRESS HAD TO PAY THIER FAR SHARE ---LIKE EVERONE ELSE, I DOUBT OUR COUNTRY WOULD BE IN THE MESS IT IS TODAY!!!!!

DISGRACEFUL!!  Lets vote them OUT and clean house and get folks in their who actually CARE about the people!!!!
Do nothing Congress? Possibly, however with this President and his warped, twisted, agenda doing nothing that he wants done isn't such a bad idea.
Bush is chiding Congress because they're not a rubber stamp like the previous Congress.
There is one trend graph I wish MSNBC would show to their viewers.  Please show a graph of the number of fillibusters performed by the republicans in this congress vs. the number of Democreatic fillibusters in the Republican controlled congress.  With a practical Senate tie, that one graph will tell the whole story.  Well, that's if you want to your viewers to really see whats going on.
Houston, we have a problem. While Congress exercising its "oversight" responsibilities is all well and good, none of this has any practical effect on the average American.  Whether Bush/Rove/Cheney/etc. is investigated by Congress is entirely irrelevant to the major issues being confronted by society.  The media loves to harp on President Bush's low approval ratings, while frequently neglecting to mention that Congress's approval ratings are typically 10-15% BELOW those of the President.  The disapproval with Congress is astounding; the failure to mention it is even moreso.
We need to vote for representatives that truly care about America and its people.
Let's get these idiot Dems. out of office.
What a bunch of morons!! They don't want to govern, they want to bicker and sabotage!! I am sure there are plenty of GOOD leaders waiting to truly serve the American people and make this nation strong and healthy like it was before Pelosi and Reid took charge.
IMPEACH PELOSI AND REID!!
You all seem to forget about the little document that stands in the way of getting any meaningful legislation passed.  It is called the CONSTITUTION!!!
Please go out and and buy a copy and you might learn that Bush will VETO any bill he does not agree with.  That said, any measure would require a 2/3 vote of BOTH houses to overide. Jeez, the poverty of intellect is amazing.
Congress is a joke - both sides of the aisle .... which is why Obama conceivably could run the table against both McCain and Clinton if the democrats somehow screw him out of the nomination.
George W. is a buffoon.  He created this whole mess and now he wants somebody else to take responsiblity for it.  It was a Republican controlled White House and Senate for the first 6 years of his term, they created this big mess and now some people have the nerve to blame Nancy Pelosi.  Congress is probably just waiting for him to leave office so they don't have to act on anymore of his brilliant ideas and proposals.  It's hard to believe that the country has sunk to it's current level under this idiots presidency.  He is just as stupid as his father and now his approval ratings have matched the Senior Bush when he left office.

The people better wake up and put another Clinton in the White House, they seem to be the only people who know how to clean-up after a Bush.  I was a Republican who is proud to admit that I have now switched parties and have become a Democrat.  During this day and age I feel like the Democrats are more in tune with what's going on in the world.  Regardless if it's Obama or Hillary Clinton I will be more than happy to vote for either of them over the Republican candidate.  "A Vote for McCain is a Vote for the SAME",  Enough already!
"Do-nothing Congress", huh?  Where the hell has Bush been the last seven years while the economy he insisted he was "growing" was going down the toilet? Where the hell was the REPUBLICAN Congress that had six years to avert this crisis but chose to steal money and sleep with people of their own sex instead?
"Do-nothing Congress", huh?  Where the hell has Bush been the last seven years while the economy he insisted he was "growing" was going down the toilet? Obama cannot even stand up to denounce his REV.. over extreamly anti-american statements and WORSE OFF... ZERO APPOLOGY to the American People!!!!
(Yes, the same typicle white bitter middle class folk!!)

WHAT DOES THIS SAY ABOUT HIS ABILITY TO STAND UP TO CONGRESS WHEN HE NEEDS TO...  IF (and this is a very very BIG IF) he is nominated???  Congress?? What the heck is Obama going to do about IRAN when the time comes??  Give speaches about Ummm, Well, Ahhh... ???

This is UNREAL!!!  Obama is BIGTIME WEAK!
Well I guess thats better that passing a law that will cost us a bunch of money.

If they havn't figured it out yet they probably will.

HOW TO MAKE GASOLINE OUT OF WATERMELON!!!
The bottom line is that, if Hillary somehow gets elected, this is what it will be like for the next four years. The Democratic Party split right up the middle and the Republicans on the other side. Plus because Hillary is going to get real tough with the oil producing countries (she's a fighter you know), the rest of the world will also be on the other side.

I forgot, there will be plenty of earmarks attached to each bill. We'll just get the oil companies to pay a surcharge to cover them.
The economy was in a mess before the Democratic congress got in there, they are trying to do something about the economy to make it easier for the working class of people, without making it worst than it was before they got in there. How many times has this Congress sent something to Bush to sign but he only veto's it, as what they are sending to him would benefit the working class of people. If he (Bush) vetoes it, of course it's going to look like it's the Democratic party isn't doing anything.
This Congress cannot do anything while Bush is in office because if Bush doesn't get exactly what he wants, he veto's the bill, like a spoiled little brat.

Pat Huntington NY

-----------------------------------------

It's a nice dig but I'm sorry the record does not bear it out.  Bush has vetoed 9 bills in his term in office.  You'd have to go back to Warren Harding to find a President that has had fewer vetos and even further to James Monroe to find one that served 2 full terms with fewer vetos.

Try again.
While Bush calls this "a do-nothing Congress he's held responsible for bills passed, then vetoed by him. He's also responsible for our economy and if it weren't for Congress we wouldn't get our stimulous checks!
Tis' no wonder, the difference between democrats and republicans has become so gray it does not really matter which is in power. The only real differences between the two is in which part of the government to grow, which mandates to inforce and which Constitutional rights to honor or ignore. And it will not change as long as Representatives are beholden to 'Special interest lobbyist'
I blame the Democratic Congress for what is happening to Gasoline and Food prices.  They are sitting on their hands and smiling because by their inactions they are  causing misery to us all during President Bush's term and only hoping that Americans will suffer enough to put them back in the Whitehouse.  I  care who is in the Whitehouse and we better pray that it will be someone with a conscience and someone who is interested in more than re-election and in having the job security for themselves.  I hope the people of America clean out that snakepit of all repeat offenders that have made their lives secure by making ours miserable. The more you learn about the leftist in this country the harder we should fight them.
What is the chance that we can "fire" everyone in Washington and elect all new politicians who don't cater to special interests and have an IQ higher than an sweet potato? Given the current state of Congress and the President - I think we should apologize to England for the revolution.
Think about this.
If your household was in deep need of a way to heat your home and put gas in your car and you had the resources in your own back yard, yet refused to tap into it. You chose rather not to mess up the backyard a little so instead you let your family go cold and hungry. Wouldn't you be considered a idiot?
Well, basically, that is what Pelosi and Reid are doing to us. They would rather that the citizens suffer than to mess up a piece of land containing the resources to solve our problems.
So I guess you could call them IDIOTS!!
>"Our economy was thriving prior to the Democrats taking control of Congress."

That was a joke, right?!?

I've been watching the economic situation falter for the common worker ever since Dubya took office (I'm sure it was rosy for the rich elite, until the after-effects of Bush policy began to kick in).
The do nothing Bush has forced the congress to do nothing the last 2 years.  Everytime they try to do something he vetoes it.  It only makes sense to wait until the Bush dynasty leaves office to accomplish the important business of the government.  I think the congress and the new president (Obama) can and will work together to change the government and help the people through these tough times.
Obama gives me the creeps.
Dirk, Brunswick, Georgia (Sent Tuesday, April 29, 2008 11:36 AM)

Hmmm, aside from having a FORMER pastor that you may not agree with or like, what does he do (other than existing) that gives you the creeps????
