Angry Floridians

From NBC's Mike Viqueira
WASHINGTON, D.C. -- A small but very fired up group of Floridians rallied in the street outside the Democratic National Committee’s headquarters here today, demanding that their primary votes be counted and threatening to literally block the doors of the Democratic Convention if they aren't.

"We will shut down the convention!" exclaimed Rep. Corrine Brown. "If we are not seated, then nobody is going to be seated!"

Brown, a superdelegate pledged to Clinton, addressed a crowd of about 150 who had been bused up to D.C. from Florida this week under the auspices of LULAC, an Hispanic advocacy group. Though Brown and another super who spoke -- Rep. Hilda Solis -- are in the Clinton camp, organizers went out of their way to remove any hint that they favored one or the other Democrat in the race. Many in the crowd wore T-shirts with the name of each Democratic candidate, from Kucinich to Dodd to Richardson to Obama, printed across the back in the shape of a rainbow. There was but one Hillary '08 shirt or button to be seen.

"We're not supposed to talk about that," confided Harriet Meltzer, 83, a member in good standing of the Del Ray Democratic Club, though she allowed that she was, in fact, a Clinton supporter. "What's he going to do when he goes to the Middle East?" she asked of Obama, who she deems to be lacking in experience. "Charm them?"

But others were adamant that this was about right and wrong, not Obama and Clinton. "We've been robbed. I didn't get a say," said Glenda O'Laughlin of Clearwater. "This is a betrayal of our rights as citizens," added Branford Fambro, also of Clearwater.

Protesters eventually turned their ire on Howard Dean, literally calling him out with taunting chants of, "Be a man, Howard!" and "Where is Howard!?"

After organizers went inside to meet with DNC officials, who they got outside to address the crowd was not Dean but Luis Miranda, deputy communications director for regional and specialty media. His promise of Florida representation in Denver was greeted with shouts of "When?" and "How?"  He had no details to offer.

Meanwhile, Clinton campaign official Harold Ickes made a closed-door appearance this morning before Clinton supers in Congress, where he told them that HRC would end up winning the popular vote by 300,000, according to a Democrat in attendance. He also told the group the Obama was "writing off Florida" and that the only hope to win the state in November was with a Clinton nomination. Ickes comes up regularly for these outreach sessions.

Hey , DNC, Please cry me a river!  You idiots including Clinton voted for your demise !!!!  Its like you crapped in your bed and now sleep in it!!!!..  Your party is nothing, accept the fact that Dean is your leadership,, that must be a real mind bender!!!
I'm sorry, this is hillarious.
First they want break the rules, now DEMAND to be counted. Well, I DEMAND my tax money wasted in Iraq be returned. How far do you think I'll get?
But of course Hillary is going to win by 300,000 - maybe 400,000!!!! -- she had help!!!!

It is unfortunate that there are supposedly true patriotic pundits it this country who truly believe Rev. Wright is a danger to our society.

The Bush Administration is well known to be an administration short on intelligence, history and memory. You know - morons.

What the Republican Party will not tell you is that their party is the party who is dangerous. They step in line with Bush and Cheney without raising so much as an eyebrow. They are lying yet again and using Rev. Wright to smear Barack Obama, because they fear Obama will be our next president.

One of the requisites for being president these days is to see how you can best throw someone under the bus publicly. Please remember most of these pundits are not journalists, though some are. If they were, they would have done their homework weeks ago and realized who Rev. Wright really is.  But they didnt investigate and now it has come to this.

As for the pundits who are not journalists? Well, they are just people with their own selective point of view.  A very old-fashioned, one-sided point of view. Most often, quite ignorant. Their message about uncomfortable subjects?

Dont talk about it. The country doesnt like it.

So what is the result of this?  McCain or once again, another Clinton.

Is this the best our country can do after what weve been through?

Please remember, it is not only Rev. Wright and Barack Obama who were exploited. We have all been exploited - democrats, republicans, independents - by the mainstream media.

For example, take Mike Huckabee. I dont know if this is true, but I read an article which stated that Gov. Huckabee nurtured a relationship with America's largest white supremacist group, the Council of Conservative Citizens back before he became famous. Did the pundits investigate him? Evidently. Hes always offering his thoughts all over cable. And if this story is true, do you honestly believe Huckabee is a threat to our country in any way? Neither was Rev. Wright. As a matter of fact, of the two, I prefer Rev. Wright.

Sean Hannity, Bill OReilly, Joe Scarborough, Pat Buchanan, David Gregory, Chris Matthews - I can no longer tell one from the other.

This was never about tearing Rev. Wright down. It was about tearing Senator Barack Obama down.

And there is not one person in this country who is taking a stand against this BS.

P.S. to Joe Scarborough,

81% of the people believe this country is headed in the wrong direction. And you know what? We have your party to thank for this mess were in. You still dont get it do you? We are not as stupid as you think we are.

Barack Obaman 2008.
I'm a Floridian and I voted in the primary; everyone here knew that our votes wouldn't count.  We knew the rules going in.

This display is contrived as it is pathetic.  Hillary also knew that Florida's vote wouldn't count at the convention.  The only people who are complaining are Hillary supporters.

Or to state it differntly, if Hillary were winning, they would not be complaining.  This is a stunt to bring about a political end -- A Clinton win.

All this fake umbrage of "disenfrachisment" is a ploy and it's offensive.  Considering the turbulent past of votes not counting here in Florida, for Clinton to play this card and reopen old wounds is just plain sick.
Where were these people before the Florida primary.  I am from Florida and they need to shut up!
steal this thing from Obama and Hillary will get trounced by McCain. She'll lose at least 75% of Obama supporters, 1/3 of her party. She'll end up the laughing stock of American Politics
What a mess.  You can blame Howard Dean for the mess.  What about the people who did not show up to vote because their vote would not count.  I think they should just split them equally for Hillary and Obama.
Shouldn't Floridians be angry at their state's elected politicians who made the decision to jump ahead with an early primary despite warnings that their votes would not be counted? What's not to understand? How can Floridians be angry at Dean and the DNC? Rules need to be followed, and actions have consequences. Otherwise, the DNC would be rendered powerless to enforce any rules in future primaries? A 50/50 split will allow Florida's delegates into the convention. It's fair, and lesson learned (I hope).
ANGRY FLORIDIANS!

Don't you mean: 'Hillary's angry girlfriends'?
That is just sick!
How can you blame Obama when he had NOTHING to do with switching the date of the Primary which got them disqualified in the fist place???
ARE THESE PEOPLE ADULTS???

And if they are so worried about voters being disenfranchised, then what about the people who were going to vote but stayed home because their local news media outlets said that their vote wouldn't count??? Do they not matter??
I hope Dean sticks to his guns, and doesn't get suckered into this nonsense.
Well - it might have been more productive for them to have protested the vote that took place at the wrong date. =-)
well good for them  they should have done it sooner there votes should count  no matter who they voted for its there rights and dean should do his job and get them counted and also mich
I'm not sure the Clintons fully understand the fallout if she gets the nomination after the way she's handled her negativity lately.

She will lose the young, the black, the educated, and many working class men who prefer Obama.

Barack loses older women.

This makes him more electable.
The real root of this problem is our adversion to spanking. Now kids know they can do anything they want without serious consequence - at least nothing more serious than a "time out." So they act like kids without consequences. They "demand" things they want.

Those kids grow up into adults who "demand" things they want.

Florida wanted to be early. The two organizations which oversee those events - the Democratic and Republican Parties - said no. Both explained the consequences of breaking rules. The Democratic Party consequences were more severe, but still fully advertised ahead of the fact.

Florida "demanded" getting it way.

Consequences occurred.

Now Florida is "demanding" those consequences be reversed.

The parties need to uphold their stated rules and consequences, if for no other reason to not expedite the continuing slide of our society into childishness.
They should be angry at Hillary for signing an agreement saying she would not count their votes.
First, unfortunately for the Florida voters, there really is no one to blame, but the Florida DNC who knowingly broke the rules.

Second, it continues to amaze me how conveniently forgetful certain campaigns are with respect to their agreement that neither Florida nor Michigan would count if they each held their primaries early.  The rules are the rules.  Period.  End of story.  The only possible resolution would be to evenly split the delegates in both states.  The argument that both Senator Clinton's and Obama's names were on the Florida ballot and therefore Florida should count is a flawed argument because unlike Senator Clinton, most voters didn't know anything about Senator Obama at the time of the Florida primary.

Finally, the only reason why a campaign would insist on counting the delegates, after agreeing not to, is not only an act of desperation, but seems to be a way to make Senator Obama unelectable should he be the Democratic nominee.
I can any of these Hillary radical advisors possibly support Obama if he gets the nomination.  Harold Ickes is a classic example.  He put nail Obama to the cross if he could get away with it. After 40 years in politics I think the Clintons and their advisors have made me realize how bad politics can get. Is their one thing Hillary would not do to be president. She is out of control.
Take it to the convention!!!

Obama can't win in November...

Hillary 08!
They should be complaining to their state governments that sanctioned the illegal primaries.  It's unfortunate but their states didn't follow the rules.  It's ironic that they felt they had to move their primaries earlier to have a say, but in the end it was not necessary, they would have had a say regardless.
Ridiculous!  They broke the rules and the dems went along.  I lived in Fla 20 yrs and know how dirty politics are there so would put nothing past them.  They will be seated 50/50 which is how it should be.  The other states should not be punished for playing by the rules when this spoiled state does it once again.  There was no valid vote as Clinton ran as an incumbent and SIGNED a statement the votes don't count so be mad at her not Dean!
The amazing thing about this story is that the Hillary Clinton camp is thoroughly involved.  I am not suprised at all. The people that want to represent her are trying to protest and change the rules, when it has been a long known fact that there would be consequences for breaking established rules.

People take note that your candidate of choice (hillary clinton)ran a poor campaign from the beginning.. She was arrogant until Barack Obama made the race interesting and then when he took control of the race she had to revamp her piss poor plan.. I don't know about you but I want a president that actually plans and doesn't underestimate competitions (or enemies) as she has obviously done in the matter of Barack Obama's chances of beating her in this race.  People are questioning judgement, then they need to START with HRC
There is only one fair way to seat the delegation... split if 50/50. Those in Florida who are upset that they had there convention votes taken away only have to look inthe mirror to figure out who is to blame. And to all the Hillary supports who are arguing that she won this state and that the delegation should be seated, need I remind you that your candidate agreed that they should have not seat at the Convention. Only when your candidate realized that she needs those votes to even have this be anything other than a blowout did she create a massive stink. She did not care for you before the vote... so why do you think she cares now...
Oh goodie.... more nonsense about Florida (and Michigan).  Clinton supporters: I know that you want FL & MI counted because it will help Hillary's numbers.  I respect that and I also respect the idea that FL & MI's voters are peeved at their current situation.

I'm writing as a small reminder that it is NOT Barack Obama's fault.  It is the fault of the legislatures in FL & MI for not following the rules set forth (with which EVERY other state complied) by the DNC.

I do hope the votes are counted in some way - but please do not blame Obama if they are not counted to your satisfaction.

I think we all know this is about getting votes for Hillary counted. It's not about fairness to all candidates, no matter how many rainbow shirts demonstrators wear.
don't push it Clinton we will push back harder the media might ptotect you the people know your games
Ickes is icky.  He'll do anything, say anything.  300,000 votes?  What ballot box is he stuffing?  More scorched earth politics, Hillary's just itching to get McCain elected.
Where were you when the DNC originally made the ruling??? Huh?
Why didn't ya'll go to your captiol and march there when they changed the rules?  It's too late!  I for one am extremely happy that you did break the rules, because now you get your payback for putting the current unqualified, although experienced(govenor) president in office.  You deserve to sit on the sidelines.  Ya'll have proven you don't make wise choices.
These people should be upset. Obama even ran T.V. commercials in Florida and still got his tail kicked. Obama chose to take himself off of the Michigan ballot because he knew he would loose. This is absurd and outragous. Count every vote!!! we are supposed to live in a domocracy!!!

IN WORLD WAR 11 GAS AND OTHER NECESSITIES WERE RATIONED, WHY DON'T WE RATION THESE THINGS TODAY
"What's he going to do when he goes to the Middle East?" she asked of Obama, who she deems to be lacking in experience. "Charm them?"

What's Hillary going to do?  Nuke them?
