Delegate update: One for Clinton

Posted: Thursday, May 01, 2008 10:27 AM by Domenico Montanaro

From NBC's Domenico Montanaro
This morning we reported on the superdelegate switch of Joe Andrew for Obama. But First Read has confirmed that Clinton is expected to pick up one today as well -- John Olsen, president of the Connecticut AFL-CIO. The Hartford Courant first reported it this morning. Olsen will hold a 2 p.m. news conference at the state capitol to announce the endorsement, per a Connecticut AFL-CIO source.

Yesterday, Clinton got the backing of another state AFL-CIO president, Bill George of Pennsylvania.

To the count...
SUPERDELEGATES: Clinton 268-248
PLEDGED: Obama 1,490-1,334
OVERALL: 1,738-1,602

*** UPDATE *** First Read is aware of the three potential Illinois add-ons, who are for Obama (Daley, Currie, Stroger). We are not adding them into Obama's count as yet, since they will be officially named after the state convention on Monday.

Obama getting 3 more superdels from Illinois today.
so tickle towards Clinon.
How about the 3 new add-ons from illinois that all went for Obama.

Today's net score so far Obama 4 - Clinton 0.

Since PA, Obama 14 - Clinton 6.
Just wait for the general election when Hillary kicks McCain's butt at the debates and then at the polls....Hillary can beat McCain...Obama can't...sorry Obamapods...No he can't!
Clinton: One step forward, two steps back.
The unions are backing the true middle class candidate.

Great pick up Hillary.
Clinton loses a super to Obama today.

Oh Joy!
And according to Mark Halperin of Time and Lynn Sweet:

"Obama to pick up three prominent Illinois supers — Mayor Daley, House Majority Leader Barbara Flynn Currie and Cook County Board President Todd Stroger — as the state finishes filling out its delegate slate.

Net gain today: Obama 4, Clinton 0 (even though she got one today, she lost one too...net gain 0)
Obama's closed the superdelegate gap to 20....
It's a long slow defeat and it is energizing the country.  Look at all the new voters Obama is bringing in.  If we can somehow get Clinton to steal the nomination, Bill can have 4 more years in the Whitehouse.

Wake up America, this election is not about what is good for the Clintons, it is about what is good for America.
Overll total is incorrect it should be
1,738 -1,602.

Obam-Biden '08
This is really getting old!!!!! All comment already!!!
This is like childs play! " I got one, oh I got one too".
Testicular fortitude is a big selling point in the AFL-CIO
Traitor!

(and I can't complain too much, he is only the second CT SD for Clinton, Obama has eight).

Obama for our best future
Another major defect from team Clinton?  If she can't overtake Obama after the constant negative press from the last two weeks, then she needs to get out.  She needs to at least keep NC close and win Indiana by double digits (thats 10 pts not 9) in order to have any credibility to carry this thing forward.  Barring a huge win in Indiana, she should have some class and fade into the twilight.  But class and Clinton is like oil and water.  See you in Denver.
You go girl!!!!

Keep this "race" going.  The longer you stay in the race, the sooner the American people will actually realize that you fraud and then your political career will be over.  It's nice to have the new guy on the block (Barack), so that everyone can bring up his associations and leave you scott-free, so then IF you win the nomination and the GE comes around and all your dirt(post 1998)-(wow that was so long ago) comes out you will have to plead with the American people to vote for you.  And we will have a choice, a maverick who will be the same or worse than bush or you, a solutions to hoodwink the american people candidate who lied to us and tore our party apart.  That's not a tough decision for me...Josh Sidney McCain you will have my vote.  I mean, think about it.  Having the middle name Sidney must appeal well to women.

Middle aged Women for McCain
Obama has 4 this morning you're a little late including:
Mayor Daley, House Majority Leader Barbara Flynn Currie and Cook County Board President Todd Stroger and Joe Andrew.  Something is off here... He just lost Penn and his poll numbers are eroding yet he is beating her almost 2 to 1 in Super Delegate pickups since April 22. I have a feeling that Hilary supporters may be getting setup for a large letdown.
The Joe Andrew switch is VERY important.  It means Obama is winning with the super delegates.  This game is OVER!  Time to unify behind Obama and focus on beating McCain!
Perhaps they're hoping that Hillary can go back to her WalMart board and get them to unionize WalMart workers...or to buy from American sources...or to provide health care for employees...or to accept a surtax on THEIR profits...
What a waste of a vote for these superdelegates. Hillary can not and will not win the nomination. She's done. She's doing nothing more than destroying the Democratic party.
Follow the link and read about HRC's latest lie.  And this is a good one for Indiana voters.  Why can ABC report this but not NBC or MSNBC?

Tit for Tat.  Guess another Obama super will come forward.  Seems like for every SD that comes out for HC, Obama doubles tht number.
Tit for Tat.  Guess another Obama super will come forward.  Seems like for every SD that comes out for HC, Obama doubles that number.
Obama's talk about change, and that of his supporters is getting very old.
Obama showed he's just as much of a political opportunist as anyone else, when he said he could no more disassociate himself from Reverend Wright, than he could a member of his own family.
Then, he turned around and kicked Wright to the curb when it started hurting him in the polls.
That isn't "change."
That's the same old thing we've seen hundreds of times before.
Obama belonged to that church for 20 years. He knew what Wright was all about.
He tried to "con" us with a speech on race relations in America, instead of denouncing Wright's hate-speak last month.
Then he comes out and ditches the guy when he starts losing ground in the polls.
I'm sorry....but, that's not leadership, it doesn't offer any "hope," and it sure isn't change.
And Obama picks 3 today.  http://blogs.suntimes.com/sweet/2008/05/obama_picks_up_3_more_illinois.html

Clinton picked 1 and lost 1 = 0
Obama picked total of 4
Score = Obama 4 Clinton 0.
Go figure
I wish the powers that be at MSNBC would recognize how horrible the Morning Joe show is and replace him with Rachel Maddow.  Scarborough, who considers himself to be the last word on any issue, is sophomoric.  I watch Don Imus on RFD.  I would watch MSNBC if they would replace Joe with someone who had some intelligence.
ahhhhh, what i meant to say is that i love obama. hillary has testicular fortitude, but obama baracks my world.
If our past presidents had possessed the qualities for which Obama has been criticized, we would be enjoying peace and prosperity. The prosperity comes when our nation's resources are not funneled into the increasing spiral of war. If our next president has the qualities of Obama, we will again enjoy peace and prosperity.

Sooner or later, the kitchen sink will run dry.
chuck, tthanks for info.  we also want to know the GENERAL trend. could we have post Super Tuesday trends. how many has each gained?
I don't inderstand why Obama supporters are so mean-spirited and angry.
Please update the Delegate Count on the main page.  Some people aren't political junkies like myself and will be mistaken if they follow the main page total!

Also Obama's website has him at 1740 total... =)

Obama 08'
I am sorry to hint on this subject on this particular page but I have been unable to find out another place to express my opinion.  My problem this morning would be Pat Buchanon.  What is not being heard when talking about unpatriotic.  The last that I heard in the Constitution all men are created equal.  How is it that Pat can say such negative things about the African American population and no one has said anything on MSNBC or any other network.  Is it that we mean so little that it does not really matter.  If this would have been Rev. Wright who also is not running for any office (Pat has) it would be all over everything.  I listened to MSNBC every day love Chris Matthews but I am going to start toning out and make sure to send out to all of my friends and family members that they should do the same if I have to continue to listen to his insults.  He continues to show his true color every day to the point of referring to Obama's speech as addressing the Whitees as if that is all that he is capable of.  I am sorry to say but Obama is 4xs brighter than Pat, if that were not true Pat would not have made such an idiotic comment.  Obama's speech was brillant and no one could deny that.  He basically was informing people like Pat just what the state of America is but of course it is those that are ignorant that would never understand.  Unfortunately he was probably preaching to choir.  I am sorry, I probably should have not used a church saying because Pat will probably think that as an African American this is the only thing that I can relate to.
Here is Joe Andrew's letter to superdelegates.

Hey Huntington Pat: Do you understand anything about politics? Hillary Clinton CANNOT win the Democratic nomination without a fight (whether or not she could win the general election is, at this point, immaterial). If she continues to pursue the Democratic nomination, she will cause an all-out civil war within the party. She will also alienate a good portion of black and youth voters, without which she cannot win the general. What positives does Hillary Clinton still bring to this race, except to further her own ambitions for 2012 (which is a race she'll lose to Kathleen Sebelius anyways)?
How many of Obama's Supers have defected to the Clinton camp?     NONE.     This alone speaks volumes.  Congrats Senator Obama!
Obama/Casey, Obama/Warner, Obama/Kaine, Obama/Richardson, Obama/Seblius, Obama/McCaskill, Obama/Strickland, Obama/Lugar(surprise)

GO OBAMA!!
As a supporter of Senator Obama's, I am trying really hard to keep a positive attitude.  However, when I hear Bill Clinton make statements saying all caucus states will go to the Republicans in November, I get a little teed off.  I live in Minnesota, a caucus state,  if he keeps telling everyone that the Clinton's don't care about all the states, he will cause the Republican's to win.  Isn't funny how any state that Hillary hasn't won in is not worth keeping in the Democratic line up for the fall.  How many states are you a part of Bill?  We believe there are 50 stars on our flag.  There must be much fewer on yours.
Thank You Senator Obama for counting all of us.
From Minnesota counts!!!!!!!!!!!
Well heck, Pat Huntington NY,  even YOU could beat McCain in a debate, thats no great feat.
I have been a faithful supporter and follower of Rush Limbaugh and Operation Chaos since its beginning.  The original purpose of Rush Limbaugh’s Operation Chaos was to create enough chaos in the Democratic nominating process to keep the process going as long as possible.  It is an effort to sufficiently damage the eventual democratic nominee, Barack Obama, and make him unelectable in fall.  Operation Chaos has worked brilliantly.  In Ohio, Texas, and Pennsylvania, Operation Chaos supporters were able to deliver the states to Senator Clinton thereby denying Senator Obama a decisive claim to the nomination.  But we are now at a crossroads.  Operation Chaos has been able to sufficiently damage Senator Obama and make him unelectable in the fall but in the process, Senator Clinton has been getting a free ride and is now seen as a stronger candidate than John McCain.  We must not let this happen.  It is time to end the Democratic nomination and make sure Senator Obama is the nominee.  This will ensure that John McCain will win in November.  Therefore I urge all Operation Chaos members to switch their support and vote for Barack Obama on Tuesday, May 6th.  Operation Chaos has succeeded in making Senator Obama unelectable.  We must now make sure Senator Clinton doesn’t get a chance to win in November.  On May 6th, vote for Senator Obama.
I noticed that MSNBC now reports superdelegate win since PA aote and no longer reports superdelegate win sinces super Tuesday.  Is that because wins since PA is perceived to be more manageable for Clinton (eventhough she's still behind)?
It hardly matters who gets what SD at this point, they are a waste of time.
OBAMA is unelectable.
The GE will not be won without the VOTERS!
The DNC is in a pickle, the votes will NEVER be there for OBAMA!
Women are the majority and we can read and turn on a TV!!
So the ignorant, unwashed, minions will be there for HILLARY! We have been duly educated!
I don't understand why Hillary supports are so mean-spirited and angry.  I mean gosh, think about, there will still be a woman in the White House next January...Michelle Obama or Cindy McCain.  HA-Thats my Chris Matthews laugh.

Sick of the Ignorace, who really uses words like rancor, Aristole knew rheortic...Hillary knows lies.
I encourage anyone that has submitted comments to MSNBC.com’s First Read and has seen very few of their comments posted, if at all, unlike the names listed above, to write an actual letter, not email, but a traditional letter that you mail through the United States Post Office to Phil Griffin the Executive in Charge of MSNBC and voice your outrage at not only the way that the editors of First Read deliberately post 98% of only Pro-Obama comments, but the way people like Mika Brzezinski can’t conduct herself in a professional and objective manner.

Phil Griffin’s address is

Phil Griffin
Senior Vice President, NBC News
Executive in Charge, MSNBC

I'd really like to hear a coherent argument from the Clinton supporters as to how they believe she can beat McCain in the general election.

As I see it, a Clinton nomination would unite the fractured Republicans behind McCain like no one else could. The vast majority of Independents would also vote for McCain. And a smaller portion, say 20% of Democrats who can't stand Hillary, would also vote for McCain.

So you're talking 98% of Republicans, 60% or 70% of Independents, and 20% of Democrats all voting for McCain.

Now maybe Clinton supporters are right, and Obama can't beat McCain either. But in my book, and by my math, Obama stands a vastly better chance of beating McCain than Clinton does, since he doesn't have that blind hatred by Republicans that Hillary has. Also, Obama attracts tons of Independents. So even if 40% of the Democratic base refuse to vote for Obama, he more than makes up for it with Independents and Republicans.

So, please, someone, in an adult way, tell me why you wouldn't agree with this assessment.
Dear "Sick",

We are angry because your candidate (Clinton) has been rude, misleading, disingenious, backstabbing, and generally rude to Demcratic Party core ideals.  She is the one making this campaign ugly, not our candidate.
Man...do I EVER agree about Joe S.....he is awful.  Racheal Maddow is SUPER....Mika is a dumb blond always looking in the camera and pursing her lips and ALWAYS interrupting EVERYONE....bad show...very bad.
Well Obamas wife sat on board that worked for wal mart suppliers. Maybe they could have lunch. No one has yet looked into his wife come to think of it about time maybe. She has sat on many boards including one that had to ok land divisions when she bought her house and divided the land. Did she recuse herself? Will Obama give back the extra 125,000. Rezko gave him and he forgot hmmmmm? Is Sinclair still sueing him ?Ya time for some more digging before Nov. We have to give this to Obama cause his black people wont like us any more . Hello?????You think Repubs will be afraid to say hes black?? I dont think so.
If Joe Andrew has switched to Obama doesn't that mean that Clinton has a net zero gain today?  Keep them coming for Obama.
Was Olsen an Obama supporter that switched to Clinton?
The PA AFL-CIO?  There are no jobs in PA!    The head of the unemployed union workers of PA endorse Clinton!
ok
