The day in delegates

Posted: Friday, May 02, 2008 6:13 PM by Domenico Montanaro

From NBC's Domenico Montanaro
The Delegate Counts:
SUPERDELEGATES: CLINTON 273, OBAMA 250
PLEDGED: OBAMA 1,490, CLINTON 1,336
OVERALL: OBAMA 1,740, CLINTON 1,609

NBC NEWS allocated two more pledged delegates for Clinton in Pennsylvania, bringing her total there to 85-73 over Obama. (It's worth pointing out that the now famous -- and mostly very accurate -- leaked Obama campaign delegate projection chart estimated an 83-75 split.)

The Day in Superdelegates: Clinton 1, Obama 1
Heading into the weekend, here's a quick recap of today's superdelegate announcements, as the slow crawl to this Democratic nomination and the magic number of 2,025 to clinch continues on.

* Clinton added, a short time ago, the support of Texas DNC Member Jaime A. Gonzalez Jr., an attorney. "I am supporting Hillary Clinton because I am convinced that she is the best choice for President," Gonzalez said, per a campaign release. "She has shown the leadership qualities that we need to win the presidency in the general election and give Democrats a victory in November."

* Obama's campaign this morning unveiled the support of former DNC Chairman Paul Kirk. (Despite a Clinton campaign e-mail suggesting Kirk was not new, Kirk never officially endorsed a candidate, and was therefore new in our count.)

More Fun with Numbers:
* There are 272 undeclared superdelegates.
* Since Pennsylvania, Obama has picked up 13 supers to Clinton's 11.
* Since Super Tuesday, Feb. 5: It's Obama +80, Clinton +13.
* Since Junior Super Tuesday, March 4: It's Obama +37, Clinton +20.

* Also note, with the Illinois state convention over the weekend, Obama is slated to pick up the three superdelegate add-ons from the state: Chicago Mayor Richard Daley; Illinois House Maj. Leader Barbara Flynn Currie, who lives in Obama's Hyde Park neighborhood, per the Chicago Sun-Times; and Cook County Board President Todd Stroger. Since these have not been officially appointed yet (they will be by Monday), the NBC News Political Unit has not added them to the count as yet.

You guys are so pro Obama like a sick, sad cult. Open your eyes and see the hypocrisy of his actions. He whines at a challenge, and backs out of situations.
I want a leader that can stand up FOR America, and not some wuss. If it's a woman, then so be it!

Hillary '08
A reporter from Indiana was just on Hardball and he brought up the Magnequench story (Hillary Clinton is running an ad blaming the Bush Adm for closing this defense plant and sending the jobs to China, the deal was actually made during the Clinton Adm.  A memo has surfaced in which Evan Bayh critisizes the Clinton Adm for it) Chris said he wasn't familiar with it.  ABC news did a story on it.  This pretty much sums up MSNBC.  They are ignoring any news that doesn't relate to Rev Wright.  They either have an agenda or they are just too lazy to cover anything that doesn't fall in their lap.
Let's go Super Delegates!

You know Obama is the way to go.  There is no plausible need to wait.

End this thing ASAP.  It's like a slow death, and Hillary needs to go back to New York.
Please God, somebody tell me that the American public is not really buying all this "stuff" that Hillary is selling.  See the funny part is, I really should be backing Hillary.  Re: Working womam, over 50, high school education.  But honest to pete I actually check on the so called facts that she ( Hillary) is trying to make me believe.  PLEASE tell me there are others like me.
Why would you print all of the reasons the Clinton superdelegate chose Hillary, and write nothing about the compliments for Obama from his super?

If we could have simply had an honest election...

HILLARY IS THE STRONGEST TO BEAT MCCAIN PEOPLE GET IT RIGHT THIS TIME!!!!!!!!! OBAMA WINS WE LOSE. LOOK AT ALL THE AMMUNITION THEY HAVE AGAINST HIM..
Obama-Webb. Less than 200 needed by Tuesday night. Still nearly 500 to allocate. Game over.
What is the matter with you at MSNBC?
Why don't you report voting news
AP already reported 2 hours and 40 minutes ago that early voting in indiana shows great news for Obama.

"Early Indiana turnout heavy in strong Obama counties"

I hope you post this newsworthy news vs polls that change day by day.

Go Obama
Putting Clinton on the ticket would go against everything Obama stands for and as we have seen, Obama does not "play" the political game...he has let us, The American People, see a new kind of politics.  The kind that this country needs desperately.  Hillary is nothing but lies, pandering, and down-right disgusting campaigning.  Kudos to the Superdegate who defected from the Clintons...He stood up for something he believes in, despite all the political trash it is going to bring him.  It is things like that that make me think there is still some hope.  And by the way, all we keep hearing about is the "Reagan Democrats" and how Obama is having a hard time reaching them...How about the Obama Republicans (and there are many out there) do you think HIllary will be able to reach any of them?? He-double hockey sticks NO!!!!
Just call me and Obamacan  (Republican voting for Obama)
All I ask is that those voting on Tuesday keep a few things in mind. If HRC is the nominee for the Democratic party, how well will she do in the voting process in November, when she and her husband will be in CA in tril for FRAUD!! I just want to voters to keep that in mind. If they let her steal the nomination away from the one who holds the most votes all the way around, then certainly how can they expect people to vote for her in November, during the presidetial race for the WH house she is in trial. This is something the Clinton's have tried to push under the rug. They say that we just don't know who Obama is, well I think we have seen in the past few weeks that even what he has been through, and the total lack of fair press, he is still pulling in the SD. I also appluad him for standing up on the gas tax. HRC and JMc are taking a quick fix and not looking at tomorrow. Senator Obama is telling us what will  happen in next few months if we take that quick fix, now JMc wants to explain better what he said about it. It really is time for a change.  I ask again that you remember the Clinton's FRAUD situation and remember that in court is where she will be in November while we are deciding on who our new president should be. I know the Democratic party can't even begin to find logic in that.
Obama, for a new tomorrow.
Interesting that so many  people who really know Hillary well such as Kirk, Andrews, Robert Reich ,Bill  Richardson, etc, all support Obama.
Screw you Chuck Todd and that stinking, lying Hillary.
Good Job Barack, keep up the good work.  The polls show you making some gains in the last day or two.
Come Tuesday! Ind. & N.C. will signify the end of HCR's bid for the democratic nomination and most of the superdelegates will endorse Obama soon after.
Sorry Hillary you and Bill are the true Elitists!
Since Hillary's only remaining argument is that if she does well the superdelegates could go her way and since they have gone 80 -13 for Obama and there doesn't appear to be ANY movement in mass(or in minor for that matter)  what argument is left?  Doesn't she have to overwhelmingly win the supers and isn't she overwhelmingly losing them?
You know who your real friends are. Did obama make any promises to these delegates?. Bet he did. Nobody does anything today without wanting something back in return
When superdelegates are switching sides, doesn't it tell you there is something wrong with the Clinton's? Judge yourself!
I'm for Hillary but don't see the need for Obama to put her on the ticket or, if for a massive swing to Hillary, there is no need for her to put him on the ticket. They are both great candidates but the many of their fans have boxed themselves into a no win rather than the win-win posibility. They have both continued to play hard but the fans have played dirty from the start with name calling. The two candidates have been far less negative than any other campaign that i can remember since I first voted in 1962. Whoever wins, they ought to look for a candidate who represents by history, location, and record the middle class and working poor. They are both big city. John Edwards is a good man but has shown twice that he can't get the votes. Someone from Ohio who has already earned the trust of the people would be a good place to look. It is time to move the country to represent the majority, not the few.
