Obama leads in Guam

Posted: Saturday, May 03, 2008 4:40 PM by Domenico Montanaro

From NBC's Domenico Montanaro
With 86% of the vote in, Obama leads 53%-47% in the Pacific Island territory of Guam. This spread virtually guarantees a 2-2 delegate split of the island’s four pledged delegates. The winner of the contest could have an influence on the five superdelegates, however.

Neither candidate has visited Guam, but both have run ads. Obama, when talking of Guam, has stressed his island upbringing. Just last night, Clinton, in an interview with a Guam news station, promised to push for Guam to count in presidential election voting.

*** UPDATE *** With 95% reporting, the count is unchanged, 53%-47% -- Obama.

For the REAL hard-core junkies, check out this report by the Pacific Daily News in Guam. It reports that there is one precinct left to vote, Dededo, the island's most populous village. And Clinton needs 204 votes more than Obama there to overtake him or he's the winner.

Here's a breakdown of the voting: "Obama got 37 votes in Ordot, 19 in Maina, 151 in Inarajan, 46 in Asan, 55 in Chalan Pago, 87 in Santa Rita, 102 in Mongmong-Toto-Maite, 28 in Hagåtña, 158 in Barrigada, 36 in Merizo, 49 in Piti, 131 in Sinajana, 108 in Agana Heights, 194 in Sinajana, 192 in Tamuning, 27 in Umatac, 76 in Talofofo, 224 in Yigo, 104 in Yona and 127 in Agat for a total of 1,951 votes.

"Sen. Hillary Clinton took 18 votes in Ordot, 22 in Maina, 87 in Inarajan, 33 in Asan, 87 in Chalan Pago, 73 in Santa Rita, 81 in Mongmong-Toto-Maite, 29 votes in Hagåtña, 166 in Barrigada, 33 in Merizo, 51 in Piti, 89 in Sinajana, 105 in Agana Heights, 155 in Mangilao, 193 in Tamuning, 24 in Umatac, 52 in Talofofo, 211 in Yigo, 98 in Yona and 141 in Agat for a total of 1,748 votes."

(In Guam, it is now 6:40 a.m. as of the time of this posting)

Well, it's a little voting piece of American real estate, but who knew how happy their judgement would make millions of Americans who support Senator Obama?

Thank you Guam.

P.S., don't believe Hillary. She has trashed every state that voted against her. You will fare far worse.
Rock on Guam and GOOooOO Obama!
Clinton is absolutely shameless.  Sure, Hillary.  Let's just ignore the Constitution, throw out the electoral college, and allow a territory located in the Western Pacific to have a hand in determining the Presidency.  I'm sure your first 100 days will be devoted towards that Constitutional Amendment.  Does anyone buy her shtick?
Geez, so HRC is going to fight a constitutional battle to allow Guam to vote in the general election?  Considering the makeup of the Supreme Court, that is not likely to work out for her. HRC knows this and is again, pandering for votes.  I guess you have to pander when the only thing left is to beg for people to vote for you when everyone knows deep down inside that Barack will wind and that the Superdelegates are trying to ensure that HRC backers are not "lost" in the general.

The sheer volume of Obama supporters and new, younger voters means that it's "required" to prove to white working class voters that Obama won fairly so that they will not leave the party, but will hold their noses and vote for Obama in the General to avoid 4 more years of Bush.

Don't be fooled, if the DNC Superdelegates really wanted Hillary to win, they would have taken out Obama long ago.  For the first time since 1992, the DNC is going to become a political party and not the Clinton party.

Patience will reward Obama supporters.  It's just a matter of winning with dignity and to continue to prove that Obama will stand up for what is good, even in the face of the media, the Clintons, the doubters, and the cynical, and that we are all worth the effort, not just those that are "with us" and "against us".  That's me Hillary, I'm "against" you.
You notice nobody is calling it.

Obama takes tiny Guam.

My vote is for Obama.
For the first time in my life I'm so proud of Guam..M Obama
This does ensure 1 pro-Obama Guam DNC member.  The pro-Clinton chair/vice-chair came in 3rd of 3.
Yahoooo Guam! You speak my language. I may spend my paltry economic stimulus + a lot of my hard earned in your beautiful territory.
You mean 204 more than he does, right?
Hillary says it is a caucus so it does not count.  Yet, she will take her share of delegates.  Hillary is Pete and Re Pete to John McCain. From The gas swindel they are laying out together to their Iranian views of bombing them out of existence go hand in hand.  At least McCain was honest about his Iraq vote ( it was to protect oil for the oil companies). Hillary BLAMES everyone else but herself for her vote. A vote for Hillary is a vote for McCain.  If you want a true Democartic candidate for change vote for Obama.  If you want lobbyist run Congress vote for the Republicans( McCain or Hillary).
I think it's awesome how many people are excited and participating in these primaries.

That said, Guam's just a caucus and doesn't count if Obama wins. Sorry, folks. Thanks for voting and try not to let the Clinton promises smack your butt on the way out.
Too bad HRC has already dismissed delegates as the way to win the election or she could at least say that they are splitting the delegates and try to spin that as a win.

But, she has already thrown delegates, small states, caucuses, swing states, purple states, red states, young voters, and black voters under the bus.

So I guess it is just another LOSS for her.

MORE DELEGATES.
MORE STATES.
MORE VOTES.
PLAY BY THE RULES.

Obama 08
OBAMA / PELOSI

This one's for Howard Dean, YYYEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAHHHH!

I'm changing, Were all Changing...YES WE CAN !
Reading Guam's little numbers broken down, has brought me to tears. It is indicative of how important every vote is. It underscores the hopes of every American.

G-D bless the people of Guam.
I read from a paper Guam (on the internet) the same numbers you posted, but that the split was 3-1 to Senator Obama.

Guamaniams are a wonderful laid back people.  Thank you to all of them who cast their votes no matter for whom they cast those votes.

Yes we can!  Obama '08!!!
The road to the White House goes through Guam :) I guess Sillary took a wrong turn.
I want Obama to win big time. I know he will. Hillary is a pharce. She is a phomey Not real. he is a people's person. Go Obama.
Here is part of what you get when people work together -- a supporter of Senator Obama's posted the following link

http://gasbuddy.com/

This link tells you who has the lowest gas prices in your area.  Now, that will actually help you save on your gas prices -- and isn't just promising you something that "poof" goes away until the next time that particular politician is seeking election.

Change the way politics works so that our politicians start solving our problems, rather than pandering to us for votes!  Yes we can!

Senator Obama is not just asking us to believe he can change Washington -- he is asking us to believe that WE can.

If you are neither afraid of being inspired to believe again, or terrified of hope, please go to:

http://www.barackobama.com/index.php

And you can find out what people are doing in your community to make that community a better place for EVERYONE to live no matter who they are, what their background is, what their age is, or what their party affiliation might be.  Everybody working together to make tomorrow better than today.

One supporter even put together a cookbook full of original family recipes from all over this Country.  This may seem like a small step to take, but getting folks to work together from all over this great Country, from all walks of live is a giant step for Americans.  If we unite together, if we work together we can make tomorrow better than today.

Believe it!  Yes we can!!  Obama '08!
Where's the exit polling ? You cant't hold an election without exit polling, can you ? How are the blue collar voters breaking ? What effect did Rev. Wright have on voters ?
I just cant believe how incredibly stupid Hillary is...this tax holiday is so dumb...and she knows it...I just hope the American people arent as dumb as her.  I am so sick of listening to her lies...she knows what will happen ...and when gas sky rockets after her ridiculous gas holiday,..because of more gas use..and jobs are lost for road workers and steel workers..it will be too late because she would already have been the nominee.  Talk about buyers remorse..and Hillary will laugh all the way to the election.
YES WE WILL, DO SOMEONE BUT HOPE FOR CHANGE

GO HILLARY 08

Where is Obama's Gas plan?? It sounds very similar to Hillary Clinton's?

I thought he was supposed to be about change. Please tell me what he is going to do to change washington and how he will get it done!!!!!!!!!!

People want relief not politically pandering!!!!

GO HILLARY  08
Thanks to Guam people you still remember the lies the Clintons from l995 now that they need you they can tell you anything so that they can go back to white house.  I know the two would like to share power in white house that will be billaries, after the two then Chelsea will claim her the royal crown of white house. Hillary lies, this why I stopped supporting her, she tells a lie to conceal another lie.
Sen. Clinton says she so fondly REMEMBERS HER VISIT TO QUAM, JUST HOW FOND IS HER MEMORY OF HER VISIT IN 1995, HER MEMORY FELL RATHER SHORT AS IT APPLIED TO THE MEMORY OF HER BOSNIA'S VISIT ONE THAT MIGHT HAVE BEEN RIGHT AROUND OR VERY CLOSE TO THE SAME TIME FRAME, NEVERTHELESS, YOU KNOW THE ONE I'M TALKING ABOUT THE ONE SHE SO FONDLY LIED ABOUT RECENTLY TO MANIPULATE THE MINDS OF THE AMERICAN PEOPLE. THEN TO HAVE THE AUDACITY TO TURN AROUND AS ASK THE AMERICAN TO JUST FORGET ABOUT IT, HOW ELITIST IS THAT. SHE ACTUALLY BELIEVES THAT BECAUSE BY VIRTUE OF HER PERCEIEVED SUPERIORTY, SHE DESERVES TO BE EXCUSED FOR THIS PREMEDITATED DECECPTION, SHE ALSO BELIEVES THAT FAVORED TREATMENT IS INHERENTLY DESERVING BY HER, HER OBVIOUS ATTITUDE OF SUPERIORITY IS THE EPITOMY OF ELITISM.
MSNBC please call the Guam results. You would have if HRC was in the lead! Let's see if Chris Matthews can still spin this HRC's way.
Guam rocks!  Hillary can't win the small states, she thinks Illinois, Georgia, Missouri, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Washington, Maryland and Virginia are small states?  What about North Carolina (the 10th largest state in the U.S.). This is a race for delegates. But despite that, who won twice the number of contests? Who has an insurmountable delegate lead?  It is only the media who are keeping her campaign, still maniputalted by Mark Penn, alive.
