Obama predicts close race in Indiana

From NBC/NJ's Athena Jones
GREENWOOD, IN -- At an early morning stop at a diner here after polls opened, Obama predicted a close race in Indiana.

"I feel good," he said in response to a question from a reporter. "I think we've campaigned hard and well in this state and I've met wonderful people like this gentleman right here. And, uh, I think I think it's gonna be close. I think it's gonna be close. I don't think anybody really knows exactly what's gonna happen. So but as usual, I'm seeing a lot of enthusiasm among the voters. People are just really engaged and excited about this campaign, this process."

Obama spent about 40 minutes shaking hands and chatting with a mostly older, white crowd at the Four Seasons Family Restaurant outside Indianapolis.

He sat at the counter with Rick Jones, who said he had been coming to the restaurant for 20 years and sitting in the same seat. He had no idea Obama would be stopping by and said he was voting for him.

Obama ate only part of his House Omelet, complaining that he had lost seven or eight pounds on the campaign trail. And part of the problem was getting only a few minutes to eat. He was repeatedly interrupted by people, including one man who asked him to talk to his wife on a cell phone.

A 19-year-old, Jordan Stefanov, came in wearing a sticker indicating he had voted and told Obama he was his guy.

Awesome.  This is why I voted for Obama.  The guy is so real.

He's not a 'typical' politician.  Sure, he says things intentionally and with thought toward garnering votes - but he doesn't PANDER.  *cough* Clinton *cough* gas-tax holiday *cough*

GObama!

http://thepajamapundit.com/
Barack only needs 273 more delegates to finish this nomination process!  Two hundred seventy three!

Let's put him over the top!
When you want to be the main event....
You have to perform no matter what you are doing.....
The question remains, with Obama in such firm control of the nomination, why aren't people voting for him in droves? He should be winning these last remaining states by 20 points or more. Yet, he struggles. People really do not believe in this man.
Oh the poor beanpole is crying again, he is the skinny weeper!  Wawaaa I want my waffles!
Seven to eight point loss too!
You just can not seal the deal!
Hey Athena, I don't think you have to include UH in a quote. How come when you were covering Hillary you didn't put in her uhs????  um????

Best of luck today in Indy, Barack!! You are the man!
Plenty of time to gain weight later Barack, just look at Bill Clinton!!

(sorry, couldn't help myself, feeling cheeky here)

Obama for our best future!
Quite a lack of confidence in Obama's prediction. What happened to the confident man that was so on top of things months ago? It's gotten to the point where Obama won't even debate anymore because he's looking so bad. He's trying to limp to the finish line, and he still might manage to lose this nomination.
Good play Obama go where you know you can. Difference in supporters is Hillarys people arent as rude and obnoxious. They would be civil and still go vote Hillary. He and his people cannt understand that. BTW-Yesterday there were 4 posts from people that like to give the impression they know it all. From different places in country so it shows it came from Obama. The pastor that was being discussed yesterday as Clintons past pastor was a man that was a pastor in Clinton NY. Not Hillarys pastor. Another look at how feeble and not ready you people are.Your supposed to be the smart ones. Showing your colors like yesterday helps Hillary so thanks.
Obama said it was gonna be close in PA too. And then he flew to Indiana before the polls even closed when it became apparent he would be crushed.
Let's hope that the Limbaugh chaos campaign falls short and does not give Hillary "Republican" Clinton an unfair boost.  That's why this farce of a primary should have ended months ago when it was obvious to all that Darth Hillary had lost.  The only way she'll win is to have support from the conservative lunatic fringe who only want her as their whipping girl this fall.

Go Obama!
I want Barack to record my voice mail message: "Hi, Joanie can't come to the phone right now, but I can tell you anything you want to hear if you'll vote for me!"
In reading some of the comments on these blogs, I am completely put off by most of the Obama supporters. It is so obvious so many of you are of a more uncivilized nature and have no respect for anything or anyone. In a fight for power you have been devious, deceitful and vulgar and a mirror reflection of your candidate. If there is any hope for this nation and the world, it does not lie in the campaign of Barack Obama.

It saddens me that so many of you do not realize that the Clintons have sacrificed and paid their dues in life so that you could live in a free society. Whether or not you agree with everything they have been or done, you still owe them respect and gratitude for their service to this country. You do not owe them your vote or your support but you at least could be half way civil in your remarks about them.

I can only hope that the very youngest of our society will grow up with more civility and with a sense of dignity that the Obama campaign people do not possess.

I can never vote for a man whose followers will stop at nothing to obtain political power.
It seems that the mainstream media view a win for Obama in NC and a win for Clinton in Indiana as essentially a tie. This is easy conventional wisdon, but it is wrong.  Obama has a lead in the delegate count of 154 pledged delegates and 139 delegates including the Superdelegates. A tie for Clinton is in reality bad news for her campaign.

Before NC and IN vote, there are approximately 410 delegates left to be chosen in primaries/caucuses.  After today, there will be about 210 delegates left.  Therefore, if she ties today, she has to make up the same ground among a smaller pool of remaining delegates. (i.e. she will need a higher percentage of the remaining delegates).  Thus her chances of winning the nomination actually fade if there is a tie today.

Hillary will win by 6.  The honeymoon for Obama is over.  His condescending remarks and his associations with radicals are very scary to the american people.  Smart democrats are realizing this guy will never beat a war hero
I think that the Republican game playing will give it to Hillary.

And why shouldn't they? She practically is a Republican:

- Lying
- Cheating
- Attacking
- Status Quo
- Gimmicks / Pandering
- Low Road
- "Obliterate"

Her gas tax idea even makes George Bush look smart.

I like Obama's attitude, and demeanor. He is confident, yet humble. He tells the truth, instead of spinning the facts to push a bogus narrative. He connects with the people, instead of wide eyedly bobbing his head up, and down with a plastic grin begging like Hillary saying, "I need your vote".
If Chuck Todd's wife is working for McCain then it seems clear now why First Read has been so easy on the ancient panderer.  It certainly appears that he is on his wife's payroll and is making sure her candidate gets the soft kid's glove treatment.  Come on Chuck you better get a clue to who your audience is and had better start making us happy before we desert the FR blogs.

Go Obama!
Obama, you are a loser! You will lose Indiana, you will barely win NC, and you will lose all the rest of the primaries by huge margins. America is waking up to who you really are...a snake oil salesman who will destroy this country worse than Carter...you will hand us over to the Mullahs of Iran because you have no spine, you will make us all pay reparations to your fellow AA's for slavery. Sorry, but I will not have any of that.  Anyone but Obama.
After being shuttling around between 3 different polling locations thanks to redistricting confusion, I was finally able to cast my vote for Obama this morning.

It was worth it.
can't he just eat his omlet in peace?  guess he's learning.
Chuck Todd is an honest analyst ... do not attack him.
Joe Scarborough on the other hand has gone to the deep end.
I'm only giving Morning Joe a few more chances .. then if his anti-Obama rants keep going .. I'm out. I will switch the tv off .. and get some more sleep.
He's becoming boring !
Well I just read a comment by Chuck Todd, hopefully the real one, and he says his wife isn't working for McCain.  Come on Chuck the First Read column has been very derelict on reporting McCain's gaffes and his radical pastor problems.  I always like your comments on Countdown and other shows and have thought you a good progressive person.  Please show more balance in reporting on Barack's good stories as it sure seems like feel good Clinton stories dominate FR.

Go Obama!
Sen. Obama told the truth about PA (he knew he was going to have an uphill climb and probably wouldn't win)and sure enough he didn't win.  So when he says the race is "close", you can believe his assessment of the situation. Honesty and integrity = Sen. Barack Obama

OBAMA, 2008!

I predict Obama will win Indiana by (+/-)10,000 and the early voting will put him over the top.

Here in NC...Obama will win by low double digits...say 10-14%.

We love Obama in Charlotte and will bring this campaign to a close....lights out Billary!!!!
Did Barack then light up a smoke and put it out in his remaining omlette?
Yes We Can! C'mon Indiana! We know you can do this!
Obama was leading in Indiana, he was supposed to win.
Coming in a close second doesn't count. He's the golden boy, he's supposed to win, hands down, everytime.
Same thing in North Carolina. He's supposed to blow Hillary out there. If he wins by less than 15 points, that means he's losing steam.
Too many reduced expectations for Obama. The bar is always set low for him and high for everybody else.

Go Luck today Obama.  I am so proud of the way you have stood tall thru on this media spin!  It will be an honor to cast my vote for you.
I see Obama taking Indiana. All the polls taken do not include the college / university students who do not have land-lines that are used for most polls.  The race is close averaging Hillary by 4% but also with a margin of error of - / + 4% . Obama will win a large number of these students as well as Independents and a good portion of cross-over Republicans.
The primary race comes down to this;

Vote Hillary, if you want a Democrat in the White House in 2009.

Vote Obama, if you want a republican in the White House in 2009.
This is a very important issue!  But I'm not into it today man...this is why we need to have some time to concentrate on the other guy in the race (McCain).  Important but too busy slaying another dragon.

Obama for our best future 08

Honestly Lisa.

Although I religiously read all the articles, I completly skipped this one this morning.

Your sister in 'change for our best future'.
If Barack feel's good enough about Indiana, then I feel Great.

The crowd will rush the field tonight & tear down the Goal Post.

WAYTOGO America for finally putting an end to the Bush-Clinton Political Catastrophe.
Lost 7 or 8 pounds. He's skinny but he's tough. He's MY Man too. And I'm a 66-year-old white retired school teacher. Go Obama. The country needs you.
Here's to Hillary for a WIN in Indiana and North Carolina!

Go Hillary!!

Hillary '08 and '12
Clear and convincing evidence that Americans know the truth-We need an honest, smart leader who will not make quick empty decisions, but lead us toward real change.

Obama 08 and 12
What a waste of space and time.  What is he supposed to say, we're gonna get blown out by 10 pts?  Or we're gonna win?  Silly article Ms. Jones.
Win Indiana, you got NC, AND SHUT THAT WOMAN DOWN !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Indiana could go either way; however, winning just one of two ends the race.  Hillary's threatening the nuclear option on the Democratic Party the same way she did to Iran is inexcusable, not to mention her Bush style threat of "you're with us or against us" on the gas tax.  The race is over, and both candidates ran good races.  Congrats to both of them.

Here's hoping Barack can sink a 'Game Winning Three' in Indiana.
You Hoosiers love basketball almost as much as we do here in Illinois. Legendary teams like: Herrin, Thornridge, East St. Louis Lincoln, Harvey Thorton & Peoria Manual!!

FYI: Gotta say 'I could've Told You So' regarding Sampson!  Live & Learn

Vote for a Winner!!

Vote for America!

Vote for Barack!!
It's a sad testament to the pro-Obama bigotry of the media (TO SAY NOTHING OF THEIR BLATANT CLINTON-HATING)-see recent remarks by Joan Walsh and Bob Novak to confirm the latter, that hardly anyone knows that Saint Barack of the Phony Inspired Ones (Tom Hanks is the latest inspired one)supported and VOTED THREE TIMES for a gas tax holiday for the state of Illinois in the year 2000. Also when Hillary wins Indiana how many of the geniuses in the media will remember that Saint Barack said Indy would be the "tiebreaker". It's Hillary or we BOLT in November!!
Dear Fellow Americans,

Our Great-grand Nation, the United States of America
is and will face very critical and substantial "Challenges" in coming,
months, years, and decades to come.
It is very essential that we pick out our next President on following criteria in mind.

1. A candidate with "Vision and Mission".

2. A candidate with " Stable Character and Integrity" .

3. A candidate with "Presidential Temperament" and
"stable Judgment".

4. A candidate with "little "Washington" exposure"  and
"real connectedness with New Voters".

5. A candidate who "Inspires us up" rather  than
"Tears us down".

6. A candidate not based on sexism, racism, and ageism.

In my professional and personal opinion, the only candidate who has the above qualities and characteristics and is also cool, calm, and collected is Senator Obama.

As an independent registered voter since 1980. I voted
for Carter, voted for Reagan, voted for First  Bush,
and second Bush in 2000 and In the process last interest in Washington politics as usual and I  stopped voting. Not a good idea under any circumstance particularly at present.

This time we can not afford to stay on side lines and
let Washington stay the same.We can not afford our Greatgreat Nation to become less than what we are  and can be.

We need to send clear and candid message to the world
and some 24 hour partisan hateful media. These media
outlets are trying to deprive, dupe, and derail us
from getting it right this time.

They are trying there best to deny us better rather
than bitter future. { Our Greatgrand Nations people
are persistently and constantly subjected to Psychological terrorism" without their knowledge thru these hateful partisan media outlets.

We Americans are should not and would not to allow them
psychologically terrorized, traumatized and silence us this time.

I am sure that we will get it right this
time and elect Senator Obama our next President. let
us not get dragged down into racism, sexism and ageism.

Let us remember that our Greatgrand is constituted of
family, friends, fellowships, faith, funds, foundation, fun, and future with fairness and freedom and without fear or favor.

We can not afford to lose any of above. Let us stand
up, be counted, save, build our Greatgrand Nation for
centuries to come and regain our world economic, and power status back.

God Bless our Great grand Nation and its diverse people.

Our Greatgrand nation needs present and future stability, security, safety, sustained progress and restoration of our due status in this perilous Global World at the all levels.

Yours sincerely,

I voted for Obama this morning before work.  so did my daughter, my best friend, my next door neighbor, the guy I've been seeing, and several people from work.  We are doing our part to help Obama win Indiana.

YES WE CAN!!!!!
Here's the executive summary of the comments here:

Take the high road this year!  More votes, more states, Obama '08!  Integrity matters and the Clintons have none.  Is anyone going to report on Peter Paul v. Clinton?  MSNBC, why are you in the tank for Obama?  Give it up Hillary, you cannot win!  A vote for Obama is a vote for handing the keys to the GOP.  Obama is all talk.  Hillary is shameless.  McClinton strikes again!  Operation Chaos reigns supreme!

Please let this end.
Obama ate only part of his House Omelet, complaining that he had lost seven or eight pounds on the campaign trail.

.............

Why does it have to say COMPLAINING?????  Are you sure he wasn't just commenting on this....Just like he commented that he was tired...to reporters it was COMPLAINING....
I called my son and daughter-in-law in Valpo today to remind them to vote.  I offered to give them each $30 to vote for Barack.  They laughed and said they saw through the pander and planned to vote for him anyway.  My daughter-in-law remarked, however, Obama spent little or no time in Hobart, Merriville, Valo, etc..Co-workers said since he spent his time in Gary, East Chicago, and Indy that he only cared about the black vote, not the "suburban white" vote.  I thought this could be a damaging perception, especially since she remarked homw much time Hiil and Bill spent in those communities.  Hope his advisors thought about how his absence would be perceived in those middle-class, white communities.
Please folks in IN and NC please put Hillary out of her missery!!!!!!

Don't be like the rest of us that found out to late what she is really like.

First Read: I read a blog earlier that someone made a comment about your spouses and whom they work for, not that I beleive any of what they were stating, but it seeem to us that there are a few of you that are more for Mrs. Clinton because of the way that you do not "pounce" on the gaffes that she makes. I have always like Andrea Mitchell but she sounds to "much for Clinton" and there are others that sound the same way. So don't take and offense to it, and try to sound more objective in your reports. try not to dicriminate between the canidates and be fair about the reports. Also we in the general public are "REALLY TIERD OF YOU TALKING ABOUT THE REV. WRIGHT" Please get off of that subject!
Let the man eat!  You know he can't afford to lose 8 pounds!

God bless you Obama!
Media has been awful in all of this. Double standard: Why doesn't  Hillary go after McCain in his embracing of Hagee's support, or the media do the same. Remember many presidents have claimed Billy Graham as a "spiritual advisor", a man who a number of years after Nazi annihilation of Europe's Jews, was still able to bring forth blatant anti-semitic comments and that was OK? Is any of this mentioned when going after Wright, as the media is so anxious to do, and to show the link between Obama and Wright, unfounded and specious, and seldom mentioning the good works Wright's church has done in So Chicago, as though that was just incidental. Guess it's not as "newsworthy", doesn't have the sound bite analysis or edginess.
We need to remove the broken eggshell of the Clintons' tactics from the omelet of our politics.
