Hillary v. Huckabee?

From NBC's Domenico Montanaro
Compare Clinton today to Huckabee in February, and it's worth noting the similarities as this continues. Similar statements on math and notice GOP operative saying it's OK for Huckabee to stay in the race, "as long as Mike Huckabee stays positive."

But, it must be pointed out, that Clinton still has a FAR greater claim to this nomination than Mike Huckabee ever did, which is why Huckabee's hanging on became the stuff of Saturday Night Live. Just pointing out some similar language...

(1) CLINTON (today at West Virginia news conference):
QUESTION: Does your statement today mean that you intend to stay in this race through the vote on the convention floor?

CLINTON: Well, I'm staying in this race until there's a nominee. And I obviously am going to work as hard as I can to become that nominee. That is what I've done; that's what I'm continuing to do.

I believe that I'm the stronger candidate against Senator McCain. And I believe I would be the best president among the three of us running. So we will continue to contest these elections and move forward.

(2) HUCKABEE ON STAYING IN THE RACE
FEB. 12 (CNN): "As long as my guys are still waving their pompoms, I think we're going to stay on the field. The goal is still to win ... Everybody keeps talking about, 'Well, the math doesn't work.' We don't know what is going to happen. You don't just throw people's votes out and say, 'Well, we're not going to bother counting them because we kind of think we know where this was going."

Feb. 13 (FOX): "Well, the game may be for us to go to the convention, if nobody gets 1,191 delegates, and that's still a possibility. Until someone gets that magic number, we still have an election process, and there is no nominee. Once that happens, we've got a nominee, and it's time to rally around him. And so if that's not me, then we'll rally around who it is. But if we don't have one and we go to the convention, then we'll make the decision at that convention, and the delegates will decide. I'll have as good a chance as anybody."

Feb. 25 (Local TV): "If John McCain doesn't get 1,191 confirmed, committed, pledged delegates, then there is no nominee officially until we get to the convention. And when we get to the convention, all bets are off and many of the delegates can do what they wish." But, he added, "Now it's possible that he'll get there. And if he does, then so be it."

"I've always said it depends on the delegate count, and until somebody has captured 1,191 pledged delegates that's required to be the nominee, there's still a contest going on," Huckabee said.

(3) Note another similarity, GOP operatives saying, 'As long as Mike Huckabee stays positive' it's fine for him to stay in: "As long as Mike Huckabee stays positive, and as long as he does not stimulate a third-party challenge from the right in the fall, Mike Huckabee staying in could actually help John McCain," said GOP pollster Whit Ayres.

Right on the money.  As long as Hillary stays positive, things will be fine.  If she decides to go negative, then it could really hurt Obama in the fall.

The similarities are striking.

I hope Blacks are enough to win in November.

Good luck Dems

Hello Mr McCain.
How can Clinton really consider herself the best candidate. She is delusional.

It is over... face it... she has no money left (she already loaned her campaign all that she has made through the Senate and through her book deals). She cannot catch up in any metric, even if you include FL & MI.

So she is only harming the DNC, Obama and the thing she cares about most but cannot see it... herself...
Hillary has every right to remain in the race. Obama is a heavily damaged candidate, and he could implode at any moment. Obama hasn't won the nomination yet, and conservative Democrats in Congress realize that Obama at the top of the ticket means they don't stand a chance for re-election this fall.
Clinton is arrogant -- not tenacious.  There's a BIG difference.
"As long as he (she) stays positive"...How can Hillary "stay" positive......Rachael Maddow has called for some time for BOTH candidates to concentrate on campaigning against McCain. Good idea.
Politico is reporting at least two more supers for Obama today (and he did receive one last night from NC before the race was even called).  Can you update the SD count now?
I like the both close the campaign season with victories.  Fight through W. Virginia, Kentucky and Oregon, then, predicting Clinton wins Kentucky and Obama wins Oregon, Clinton came revel in her victory, explain the state of the race to her supporters on her own terms and congratulate Obama on his apparent nomination.  She will be afforded the opportunity to show the country how much support she has and to bring that support into the general election fold.
We will come together, even those who don't want to.

Do you know why?

Because, Obama said to tell the truth.

The truth is we are all part of this great land--no matter our individual opinions and prejudices.  Like the man said,  "I am imperfect."

But he is right, people, it is not about Obama, Clinton, or MCCAIN.

The real question is do we want to continue the war in IRAQ?  With more dead and wounded.

Do we want to reward the rich and pull every spare dime there is out of the poor and middle class? (more Bush)

Do we want health care for all--or should we let, at least some of them, die in the streets?

What do we, the people, want?

Go ahead, you narrow minded individuals, go ahead and jump ship.  Cut of your head to cure your headache--yes, that will make you feel better (or bitter)  However, in the end you are only acting in a self-destructive way.

Surely, if Hillary had won, I would want her policy--not McCains!  It doesn't matter that I find Hillary completely repulsive, and dishonest.  Her policies are sound, and they are very close to Obama's, and they well help Americans!  And they will help my friends, the soldiers!  And they will help us all!
Those Policies will help our education and our economy.  Those policies will determine and define all of us.

The rich, are rich for a reason.  Special interest lobby for a reason. Politicians accept money from special interests for a reason!  Obama's policies, the same in many ways as Clinton's policies, are this contry's great chance to change the course of our  dependence on oil, on special interest, and on dirty politics in general.  It's time to have a little discipline and not act like a spoiled brat.

It is time to come together as Democrats!

Republicans:  Beware!
Obama needs to debate Hillary. He's real smooth reading a prepared script, but starts heming and hawing when he gets a question he doesn't understand, which is often. Hillary will anniahlate him.
I see that Hillary Clinton has just loaned her Lost-Cause campaign another 6.4 million dollars that she knows it will never be able to repay. Now, I am concerned about her mental health. The superdelegates should put an end to this BEFORE SHE REALLY HURTS HERSELF. Seriously.
Well, then I have no problem with Hillary staying in AS LONG AAS SHE STAYS POSITIVE...
Hillary is demented and needs help....someone should step in and save her from more disgrace.
"We can't win with just blacks and eggheads" - Who said this?
Congratulations to Hillary for a hard fought race.

I think it's now time to shift to the general election. Hopefully, we can all now unite behind the fact that this country cannot tolerate four more years of the past eight.

Next Stop - The GOP Fear Machine

I think that oil will be this cycle's GOP scare tactic for their fear machine. Some economists have mentioned $10/gal gas. Carl Rove has already said:

"If we were to give up Iraq with the third largest oil reserves in the world to the control of an Al Qaida regime or to the control of Iran, don't you think $200 a barrel oil would have a cost to the American economy?"

It seems probable that the GOP will try to scare the public into a mindset that the only way we can hold onto our money is by holding onto Iraq.

We have to get prepared to show that this administration's (and McCain's) policies are the reason for the problem, not the solution.

Fear will not win. Not this time.
As long as Senator Clinton stays positive' it's fine for her to stay in.

Maybe she could educate her supporters that Senator Obama is NOT a Muslim, that he didn't take his oath on a Koran, and that he loves his country as much or more than they do.

Vote with your head, vote for the economy, vote for the environment, vote for jobs.

Vote Democratic 2008 -- don't let the corporations and their Republican stooges win again.
The similarities are striking.

Jon Stewart rightly predicted that Hillary would be campaigning even during Obama's inaugural as President of the United States.
Excuse me but Mr.Huckabee didn't have a snowballs chance in Hell of getting that nomination. Hillary and Obama are separated by less than 200 delegates. To compare and contrast these two statements tells me that you simply have no respect what so ever for the fight Mrs. Clinton waged on behalf of the American People. You are attempting to marginalize her and people are smarter than that. You people have been cheering on Obama from the start and your biased coverage is more than disturbing it is unjust.
You didn't see Huckabee coming out with crap about McCain's Pastor Hagee's extremist statements. You didn't see Huckabee coming out demanding facts about the Keating 5 be put in the public eye. You didn't see Huckabee trying with all his might to destroy McCain. The GOP would not have tolerated it. Hillary has played "Tonya Harding" style, there's no comparison.
Look, she can still win.  This was a momentum changer.  Winning Indiana proves she is more electable even if she did slide further behind in the Popular Vote and even if she slid further behind in delagates.

This gas tax thing is going to save her campaign, even if no educated economists agree or even if it is irrational.  Gimmicks work!

Haaa Haaa haaa!  These stories make me Laugh.  Yea pundits! You know there is a whole genre of literature for these writers, it is called FICTION!

It's over!
Thank you, First Read!  I've been waiting for this comparison since Obama's February winning streak!

GObama '08!
Today Clinton is running her 2012 campaign ... she has to get the Democrats to lose in 2008 and come back and 'save' us.

Do NOT quit, Hilary.  There's more to come on BO.  And, we know how good he is at insulting the average American.  It's not over til it's over.
And don't forget, both of their names start with a "H", have three syllables, and end with the "ee" sound . . . coincidence? I think not! :)

P.S. And then there's that whole Arkansas Governor thing!
please, not even the elitist clinton's can beat this dead horse back to life
Super Delegates do please do Hillary and Bill a favor and let her stop borrowing from her own bank account. Step up for the nominee. I think it would be nice to end this mess . The more that she argues this white blue collar vote ,and the FL and MI thing the more her faithfuls believe it. It is time for Hillary herself to step up and address this issue since it was her campaign along with the aid of the media to push this thing to this level. Now you see people saying they wont vote for him because he has 90%+ of the african american vote. So soon these people that say that forget that the Afriacan American vote has been a very faithful supporter of the Democratic Party. This is something that seams to have slipped the minds of a lot of those So called Reagan Democrats. While the Reagan Democrats went republican to vote for Reagan who remained loyal to the party. I think Hillary had better reconsider the use of Obama and his fine campaign as Stepping Stones to her Coronation. Be graceful Hillary go out with class and style dont become the brunt of stupid jokes. Hillary supporters please let go of thoses fears of the unknown and fight to get a Democrat in office this Nov.   Personally I dont care if you are pink with green polka dots it is paramount that we as Democrats win this Nov., If you dont agree then be Patriotic to our family members in Iraq and stay the hell home.
Just rewatching the speeches from last night and man some of those Clinton supporters look like they are from the shallow end of the gene pool. What was with the weird girl with the sticker on her forehead and her friend who looked like a cast member from Hairspray.
Hillary how about you can't even win your party nomination let alone McCain. Mrs Ego it is time to do the right thing. Your not a fighter your just an egomanic who only cares about herself.
Blah, Blah, Blah
I cannot believe that Clinton will stay positive. She has never done it before. Why isn't it worth repeating that Obama is fighting for the nomination against 3 Clintons. This should be more than a factor to consider him a much stronger candidate.
I have not seen any of my comments posted so far.
If the Democratic nomination process is subverted, forcing Sen. Clinton to drop out, cult leader Obama will crash and burn in November and the Democratic Party will be a train wreck in November.  It will also be a repeat of the George McGovern fiasco where he lost every single state except one state in the general election because he was a radical left wing liberal, just like Obama is.
Unfortunately she will not stay positive, that will be the bigest problem.

She will keep coming up with these wild ideas to try and sell the voters and cause a debat.

By the way has she challenged anybody to a debate on a flatbed truck lately.  No, I didn't think so either I guess she was just trying to get some free air time.
While I don't agree with a lot of what Huckabee stands for politically, he did conduct his campaign with class, decency and has very high levels of personal honesty and integrity. Billary is nothing like Mike Huckabee.
"So we will continue to contest these elections and move forward. "

Contest, as in challenge, these elections?  Does that hint at legal action down the road?  If so, is she ever going to stop fighting...FOR HERSELF?

As they said last night...Yes SHE will, but Yes WE Can! (That should tell you a lot right there - SHE vs. WE.)
Hillary's comments about staying in the race remind me of the Monty Python skit where the one actor says, after having both arms cut off: "That didn't hurt, it was just a scratch." When is enough enough?
Hillarious Clinton! That's all one can say!
I have always supported HRC. I believe she is the best candidate to win in November. But I cannot see her being nominated when Obama is where he is in a legitimate way.  Handing the nomination to HRC is like Supreme court handing the presidency to George Bush....DNC..find a way to seat Michgan and Florida delegates in the most effective not a compromising way..Michigan and Florida cannot be pushed to the sideline when the people of these states had no say in moving up the primary dates...
I truly hope you will note my posting on this subject a couple of weeks ago:
http://nearearth.wordpress.com/2008/04/23/hillary-clinton-and-the-huckabee-model/
A Clinton staying positive.... That's laughable...
Big difference:

'As long as Mike Huckabee stays positive' it's fine for him to stay in: "As long as Mike Huckabee stays positive, "

Huckabee ran a positive campaign from day one, including his Iowa win.

Clinton has been dragging everthing through the mud from day one, including her Iowa loss.

Huckabee was NOT tearing McCain down or attacking him and dividing the party and making it harder for him to win in the fall.  He was just an effective foil for McCain to campaign with / against.  Hillary is throwing the kitchen sink and anything else just to get nominated.
baby girl it is time to smile the roses because this race is over for you.

Bill gat a backbone because been broken is not something you or your family are use to broke....
A Clinton's staying Positive... that's laughable... She'll never do that...
Hey - FR!  Are you guys asleep up there?  Why are no comments being posted?!?

You forget - Huckabee is likable, HRC not so much.
"But, it must be pointed out, that Clinton still has a FAR greater claim to this nomination than Mike Huckabee ever did"
*****************************

Far greater? Well I guess that's technically true - Huckabee had a 0.0001% chance of winning, and Hillary has a 0.01% chance.... that's 100 times greater!
FROM HUFFINGTON POST

A senior campaign official and Clinton confidante has told me that there will be a Democratic nominee by June 15. He could not bring himself to say the words "Hillary will drop out by June 15," but that is clearly what he meant. I kept saying, "So, Hillary will drop out by June 15," and he kept saying, "We will have a nominee by June 15." He stressed what a reasonable person Hillary is.

Everything about our conversation implied that he had already had this reality-based discussion with Hillary. He said the Clinton campaign plan is to collect as many votes and delegates as they can right through June 3, then take no more than a week or so to make their case to the superdelegates. Nothing he said indicated that he actually expected the superdelegates to move to Hillary in the week after the final election. The Clinton campaign has not lost its grip on reality. Yes, Clinton spokespersons publicly seem to be lost on gravity-free planet Clinton, but privately they know the end is near.

Bill Clinton should have taken the 11.6 million they blew on the campaign and instead ran off with Monica!!!!!!!!!!

I think the whole Clinton household is going to implode.  Nobody is going to be able to take all the four letter abuse she deals out.

Maybe Rev. Wright will console her and Bill and Chelsea.......He will most likely say to them.  I told you your chickens would come home to roost!!!!!!

I think 11.6 million is the price Bill Clinton had to pay for his White House escapades......He didnt look to happy on Tuesday night.....Poe, Poe, Bil, hee, jut rooked sooo sad.....
Hey Bilary Fans, your sobbing Queen must be crying a river of tears? You can't buy the White!! And that is a fact or a couple others would be setting there right now!! For Hillary to take the White House away from Obama she'll have to NUKE HIM!!  LMFAO!!!! Its all over ""Throw out the dog and take out the trash, make sure to turn off the lights!!!!
Hillary is the best candidate, and she will be
the democratic nominee. This race is not over
and her supporters will see her through this.
One needs more than African Americans and colleg
town voters to beat the Republicans in Nov.

However, while I sure there is a lot of pride in
the African American communuity for Obama, I
personally believe they shoud be ashamed for
casting thier vote for him "because" he is
African American. He is not a strong candiate and
has little experience to hold the office.
It sounds like Clinton is no Huckabee.  There has been much that she has done that is gone negative.  Huckabee saw when his campaign was running out of steam and respectfully withdrew.  I don't think that Clinton is that respectful; possible chip the size of Alaska on her shoulder?  She was considered to have an almost lock on the nomination.
I agree.  Florida and Michigan are already pissed off (and probably lost to Obama in the fall.  Being a Floridian myself and being called "stupid" by Obama during one of his stump speeches speaking to a crowd about Florida voters a few months back, didn't help him with Florida voters.) It would not be a good idea to "piss off" voters in the remaining 7 contests by telling them they don't have say in this race.  Hillary should stay in until ALL Americans have had a chance to vote. Pundits don't decide who wins.  The voters have rights. I say she continues through the end until someone has the magic number.
