Emanuel: Obama 'presumptive nominee'

Posted: Friday, May 09, 2008 1:06 PM by Domenico Montanaro

From NBC's Domenico Montanaro
Rep. Rahm Emanuel called Obama the "presumptive nominee" in an interview with the New Yorker's Ryan Lizza. Emanuel has obvious ties to the Clintons, but he is also from Illinois. It's why, he says, he's held out and not endorsed. That's “why I’m hiding under my desk,” he says.

Emanuel also joked that the undeclareds that remain are part of "an exclusive club.”

When asked if there “is there a way for Democrats to blow this election?”, Emanuel said, “The answer is in the question ... I’d rather be us then them.”

MSNBC please post this -

I suppose it really does not matter what Oregon and the remaining states have to say about the primaries - let's all just go with the tide and proclaim a nominee and shove Hilary out.

Shouldn't the nominee come from voices of ALL states? I don't blame Florida and Michigan for moving up their primaries - the later you get into it, the useless and voiceless the state becomes. Or at least that's the message being sent by Obama supporters. Is it your money she's spending? Is it your time she's using?

If Obama can't take this situation, can he actually take a real, honest to goodness pressure a President face? How would he decide on a deadlock issue? He can't run away from them, he actually has to voice out and be brave enough to take a stand.

All you Obama supporters, be thankful for the training he is getting. And stop pissing off Hilary and her supporters with your vile, insulting remarks. If there's anyone out there sounding like a Republican, it is your group. Half of the dems voted for her - don't forget that. Or he will suffer in November.

Respect her decision to stay in the race for as long as she feels she has a chance. That's what democracy is all about. Stop whinning about it.

If you people feel he is being destroyed by her staying in the race, what chances do you folks think he has with an all out campaign by the Republican's coming up very very soon? They will not go for affirmative action on him let me tell you that.
Reality Check, NY: Rasmussen is still tracking, they reported today Obamama with a 8 point lead nationally over Hillary.
To diary of ---------The Clintons have been loyal to black citizens and blacks repay them by voting for a imcompetent.  I have had black friends all my life.  I have always been for any underdog.  I fully believe that all persons should be treated equally.  But after Clyburns remarks, I could no longer see everyone as my brothers.  I care about these United States and I cannot be so blind as to let blacks vote without considering the consequences.  If they are my brothers they should vote for a qualified candidate which by no stretch is Obama at least in the minds of 90% of blacks.  Even white people can disagree but the precentages show that the vote is only because he is black.  My vote for McCain will not be sour grapes but the knowledge that Obama is not qualified.  I cannot take the chance on a president-in-training.
Those people fainting when Obama talks? They're  actually gagging from having to listen to this blowhard for more then a minute. America will be gaggingsoon enough if this guy manages to win this fall. It will be the second term of Jimmy Carter.
To Tullis Winecoat: I guess just like MI and FL, these remaining primary states don't matter.
---

Give me a break.  Hillary Clinton stated in January that the nomination would be decided on February 5.  Didn't hear her supporters bemoaning the disenfranchisement of the rest of the states then.  Do YOU even believe what you're saying anymore?
I guess that is why Obama supporter are called Obamabots. They are not programed to face reality.Obama thinks Blacks and college kids are enough to win in November. LOL

Oh, one more thing... I seem to remember this foolish guy a while ago that ran for president that was hugely popular among the MTV crowd, and did very well among blacks.  Went on MTV, Arsenio Hall, etc.  Was loved by the youth.  Almost like a rock star.  Maybe someone can refresh my memory who had stats like these on voting day:

1992:
Black Vote: 83%
White Vote: 39%

1996
Black Vote: 84%
White Vote: 43%

Oh... that's right!  Bill Clinton!  He seemed to do just fine in the election.
Still waiting for Obama to unite something. Even his dog hates him.
Patty in CA-
Obama is not a Black Liberation Leader. Go back to Fox News. I've had it with the small minded narrow thinkers on this page.
WHAT DO YOU MEAN OBAMA CAN'T WIN THE WHITE VOTE, REMEMBER IOWA HILLARY!!!!!
OREGON IS WHITE AND HE'S CERTAINLY GOING TO WIN HERE. EVERY WHITE PERSON IN THIS COUNTRY I KNOW IS VOTING OBAMA
When an uncommitted superdelegate like Rahm Emanuel starts calling Obama the presumptive nominee then we all know that's it's time for Hillary "Republican" Clinton to show her team spirit and quit this primary farce.  Anything less than a quick graceful exit will just damage what's left of her reputation with the majority of us Democrats.

Go Obama 08/12!
I am convinced that you guys let Patty come on his just to cause grief and anger....she seems to be able to say anything ...that anyone in there right mind know is a bunch of gap...but it steer emotions and that's what you guys want...so unfair
Let's get real.  Hillary's "white-american, blue collar, working class males" who are considered the swing voters will swing away from Hillary to McCain in the General Election.  While they are voting for Hillary now (they prefer a white woman to a black man) they will choose the white man over the white woman in the general election.  This effect will be multiplied as they are they are the same voters most likely to fall prey to the "fear" tactics that Hillary used against Barack.  McCain will successfully use those same tactics against Hillary in the general election.  On the other hand, the black vote, the young vote and the college educated vote (as well as those non-college educated voters, male and female alike, of varying ethnic background and income, who are intelligent/perceptive enough to see through Rovian tactics)are the solid democratic voters.  They will not be swayed by McCain's use of Rovian tactics any more than they are swayed by Hillary's.  It is these voters the party cannot afford to alienate.  If they lose these voters, and a good number of the blue collar white male vote turns to McCain (AND IT WILL), John McCain will win the election hands down.  The DNC and the uncommitted super delegates better wake up and put an end to the havoc Hillary continues to wreak on the democratic party.  (And I used to feel the election should play out, it is a shame that Hillary's deplorable tactics have changed my mind, as I do feel it unfair to those who have not yet voted to have the supers decide for them now.  But to let it continue will be worse for us all in the end.)
And there you have it Americans! The Affirmitive Action candidate! No ideas, no message, no clue, but he's the Democrats guy. And they're sticking, and  sinking, with him.
Another compassionate Obama supporter concerned about millions of disenfranchised voters. Be sure to fill the MI and FL seats at the convention with clowns. They will best represent the Democrats and Obama.

*************************************************

haha...now that was funny. if you think Hillary truly cares about the voters in MI and Fla instead of herself-alone, you're more delussional than she is about her WH chances
What's racist is when white people say they won't vote for a black candidate just because he's black, or when blacks say they won't vote for a white candidate because he's white.  We can now see clearly that many of Hillary "Republican" Clinton's supporters are from the Bigot Brigade.

Go Obama 08/12!
To:  Patty, SD

I am neither black nor of college age.  I am a 56 year old professional white female who is in full support of Barrack Obama.  Hillary has proven to be very divisive, dihonest and splitting the Democratic Party.  I am going to be voting FOR Barrack for the presidency, rather than the lesser of two evils.  If HRC happens to swiftboat Obama, I will still endorse him even if he doesn't win the nomination.  No one will (including Hillary) not take this away from me.  Initially, I would have supported HRC until I witnessed her stooping to the lowest of levels in politics and the trust is now gone.  If by remote chance Barrack doesn't get the nomination, I will not vote for McCain and I will not vote for Hillary.  It is time for change.  And, Patty, you are very, very wrong when you keep stating that Barrack is attracting blacks and college students.  It's very disheartening to listen to your racial innuendos at this critical time for our country.  Get a brain and stop polarizing.  This is one of the main reasons why  so many people are moving away from Hillary.  She is proving herself to be no better than Bush.
The Democratic "presumptive nominee" is going to be the next President of the United States of America.
Those who say that Blacks are voting Obama simply because he is black need a lesson on History. Flashback 2004: why didn't Al Sharpton get even 50% of the black vote yet even then he stil had black pigmentation?
And to think, HRC started the Dem. campaign with the lead. As some of the more qualified (Edwards, Byden, Hucinich) candidates were peeled away, it became appearent that the "dark side" was pulling some political muscle to eleminate some good people. Nobody counted on B.O. enlisting new resources to gather a new following. The Clintons never saw it coming. What we learn from this is, never take the will of the people for granted.

TO: TEH, Gibsonia, PA

The thing is the African American community actually have an African American candidate this time around. It's OK to admit it. I myself am a minority - an Asian. I can understand the enthusiasm of supporting someone your own race to the highest office in the land. It's not like it happens every 4 years that there is a nominee of the same color as you. We're not white people where this thing is a normal occurance.

I think it is hypocrical not to admit that.

It is actually brave to be objective about another candidate and consider them favorably if they are running against someone you would consider your own people, your own color and race. That's just a human thing. The sooner we admit that, the better it would be.

About gender, I have to say it matters too. I admire Hilary for her strength as a woman. You don't see a whole lot of them in her position. And how she dealt with her personal issues. That takes guts and courage.
Women are suppose to be the weaker gender, admit it or not, that is always at the back of our heads. For someone to achieve as much as she did and proven that to be not necessarily the case, that demands respect.
The first woman to run for the Presidency - and came really close to getting it at that is just an icing in her cake.

Appreciate them both for who they are and the history they made - still making.

I would say enough throwing mud from both sides. This occurance doesn't happen every day. Like her or not, you have to be proud that she's an American just like you. Appreciate that you have two terrific individuals to choose from - and don't be afraid to admit the presence of the elephant in the room - Obama is black and black people are voting for him, Hilary is a woman and most women voted for her.

We get either one, it's a win win situation.

Dem's in 08!

Patty in SD, you are disgusting and it is people like you that make my skin crawl. You are the type of person that Obama was referring to in his speech, remember the one about race....and just in case you are not intellingent enough to understand what I am referring to it is your racist comment "I will NEVER vote for racist black liberation believer like Obama". what if I referred to you as a white fool or a hispanic fool or even a black fool does that comment set well with you, no matter what  nationality if the comment is in that tone the intent is a racist intent. I will pray for you, I will pray that God opens your heart and allow you to see that a persons truly should be judged by their character and not their race..... Maybe your life is so disgusting taht you have to resort to your racist comments in order to obtain attention, well you got mine and I sure hope that my prayers reach God so thta your life can be more fruitful.
To:  OUR next president:

I want you in the White House and I want you to unite this country and do your very best to try to undo the mess that has happened over the past 8 years to OUR country and to OUR people....I couldn't care less about what race you are...

Just get in and do your very best and you'll make me very happy.  If you make some mistakes, try to correct them and do better next time.

From: An African-American female
