Delegate Weekender

Posted: Friday, May 09, 2008 6:43 PM by Domenico Montanaro

From NBC's Domenico Montanaro
We have noted the seven superdelegates Obama picked up today, by our count. Clinton got one and lost one.

However, in auditing our lists, we found were missing three, after talking with the Clinton campaign. NBC NEWS has confirmed their backing of Clinton and adjusted our count.

The NBC NEWS delegate counts:
PLEDGED: Obama 1,590, Clinton 1,426
SUPERS: Clinton 277.5, Obama 269
TOTAL: Obama 1,859, Clinton 1,703.5.

* There are 248.5 undeclared superdelegates (about 50 of which are not named yet).

* Obama has picked up 99 since Super Tuesday to Clinton's 17.5.

* Obama is 166 away from the magic number of 2,025.

*** UPDATE *** The Clinton campaign announced the endorsement of Rep. Ciro Rodriguez (TX-23).

PLEASE! -- someone -- tell her to turn out the light.
(about 50 of which are not named yet).
--Dibs!
The superdelegates should be running towards Obama. The superdelegates make the democratic party look weak because they cannot stand up to the Clintons. There is no way she can win. They can end this tear down of the democratic party by the Clintons.

Is Hillary psychotic? Someone should really sit her down and have a one on one with her and get her some much needed help. I am truly serious.

Consider this, please. How will Hillary's insulting characiture of the good people of West Virginia, fall on their ears? Just how will it play out?

How many of them will her words offend? Will it deflate some of them so that they lose interest in voting on Tuesday? Will she actually drive some to Obama? As ever with Hillary, there is going to be some negative blowback against her in the polls. If nothing else, we have seen through this primary how for her, at this time in her life, she is under Divine Judgment. What goes around, comes around on her so fast, that the rest of us barely have time to run, and take cover before the lightning strikes!
Aren't there two more supers who endorsed Obama in addition to the Magnificent Seven today?  I keep wondering why Hillary "Republican" Clinton's total delegate count has gone down from 1699.5 to 1692.5 instead of up because of the gain in those three MIA supers you added to your list.  Please double check your total delegate count as it sure seems like she's gone down more than she should have, even if your count is more satisfying to me.

Go Obama 08/12!
I do not understand why all the networks and the Candidate sites are showing Barack  ahead of Clintons....either way....if he is not....he will be by MONDDAy

Dems unite
Who are they, What are their names??????????????
So how long have these superdelegates been available to Clinton's Team? 4 months. Talk about disorganized and pitiful.
Please add Joe Johnson from Virginia for Obama.

It's been confirmed.
Please name these 3 new supers coming out of nowhere.
I have been a registered Democrat since 1955, and although politically active all these years, not until recent elections have I been so terribly disenchanted with the Dems. I am also very concerned with the amount of control and influence the people in the tv and radio media holds over US politics and the voters.  More attention is paid to what one candidate says about another, instead of more focus on the actual issues and whether we will even have honest, trackable elections, rather than what happened 7 years ago in Florida.
The Florida primary elections are much more complicated than just what has been reported by you and the rest of the media... you spend an hour talking about inconsequential things -- whether Hilary Clinton will withdraw and when, and why, etc. etc.! I have given up on the tv news and your show among others, even though I have been one of your!! viewers for years. It's become a waste of time --I'd rather do a crossword puzzle
I guess soon Hillary "Republican" Clinton will turn into the bag lady, begging for alms at every street corner.  Slick Hilly just has no pride in herself if she continues on her new "Poverty Stricken Campaign".  Soon Slick Hilly will be going up to Barack and asking "Brother can you spare a dime?".

Go Obama 08/12!
NBC NEWS has confirmed their backing of Clinton.

A pity nod.

If they believed in her so much, why did it take so long?
To  Michael R, Anderson, IN

She needs to walk INTO the light.  Her campaign was on life-support, but the plug was pulled on Tues.
To The Don,
Granted my analogy of comparing Hillary "Republican" Clinton to a flying pig or that she'll be elected only when pigs fly was a bit over the top.  Tuesday night when I went to bed after seeing that she cancelled her Wednesday public events I was thinking she was going to quit the campaign gracefully and it would be time to be civil about her.  But on Wednesday upon hearing how she's been trash talking Obama on race, and seeing all the negative garbage paaty, sd, ca and other Clintonistas have poured out against Obama I just am not cutting her or Alzheimer McCain any slack.

As Slick Hilly said it's full speed ahead.  It is a pity we can't have a proper discourse of the issues, but until those who trash Obama here learn some proper manners I'm going to keep fighting fire with fire.  Come on, admit it I bet I got you to laugh before you came to your proper sense of manners.

Go Obama 08/12!
To whomever is posting my comments I'd like to say thanks for having a good sense of humor! :-)  Keep up the great work and I hope you have a super weekend.

Chuck..Why are you not talking about the Ohio final total? Obama picked up 100,000 more provisional votes and Ohio is offically 8.8 % not double digits. Why no total of the actual popular vote totals?
Who are these Super D's supporting her???  Are they blinging idiots?? Are they from areas where she won the vote so they feel they have to side with her because she is who their "people" supported?? Come on, what's the deal, really? Names, please!!!
I see you give us the names of the delegates for Obama why not name the one's for Hillary.  We want names not just numbers. Be fair.
Eric in Salinas,

Your caricature of Hillary Clinton is spot on.
Sad.

Yes, I am getting a little sad.

I have known the Clintons for a long time and know that once they were an amazing, brilliant, couple with deep values and compassionate character.

That was then and this is now.

Today they are both such lousy, pathetic losers.

The arrogant are usually brought low, but this?

And I wonder what the world looks like today for some of their more ignorant, lockstep, metrically deluded friends...

I can just see a loser like van somewhere picking pennies out of the gutter...

Hale, hale yes, but most of all, farewell.

http://superdelegateland.blogspot.com

Check out the website for another look at the superdelegate race.  Clinton's chances are at such a delicate tipping point that it is possible that by the time Oregon rolls around, it will be the pledged delegates from those contests that put Obama over 2025.
Just an add on note to Eric from CA stating Clinton could ask to borrow $$$ from Obama. Seriously, I think I heard it on the news show that one of the "stipulations" of HIll getting out of the race is for Obama to pay to get her out of debt.  Now, I am a supporter of Obama and have given to his campaign and it worries/angers me that my $$$ could go to help pay back HIll??  Does anyone else understand this, and is this really a possibility???
Watkins, Espinoza, Gage, Payne, DeFazio, Jeffcoat, Weakhee, Hirono and Joe Johnson (per demconblog) - that is NINE, plus the head of the Dem. party in Guam, as Guam has certified its results, and he party leader pledged support to the winner.  SO IT's TEN!
You know I can't for the life of me figure out Hillary's purpose for staying in the race at this point.  She cannot catch him in elected delegates, and there is no way the so-called superdelegates can give it to her without destroying the democratic party.  Many superdelegates have constituencies who will take them to task for casting a vote counter to their districts.  And on a philosophical note, why have a primary at all if in the end the superdelegates make the choice; if that happens, wouldn't it sorta suggest that the whole protracted primary/caucus process is a charade and a farce.  No matter what happens, there has to be a sense of fair play and I am sorry Hillary has demonstrated that she has absolutely no use or respect for rules/regulations/bi-laws or any other governing tenet that does not serve her interests and that my friends is DANGEROUS!
As a "White" American, there is no way for Hillary to ever get me vote.  Drop Out Hillary!! Let us Americans, of all colors, get started on bring this country back to respectability.
Is that the fat lady I hear singing?
I would like to hear more about these uname SD are they just vacent posts?
If she can't beat them, be very careful America, because her position on the issues lately along with her attacks on Obama and trying to widen the racial divide; she might decide to join them!
If she became McCains VP; she'd be able to achieve her (win at all costs) presidential goal sooner!
Remember she's a republican at heart, and at this point, we shouldn't put ANYTHING past her!

Hillary will not stop. That is a fact. And she won't be nice. She will try to destroy the party and Obama. Bush was stubborn in sending us to war. Hillary is stubborn at leaving. We already know what people who cannot listen to others can do.
Hey McCain--If Obama gets this nomination-where do I sign on to help with your campaign?
A Clinton supporter.
name recognition~

There is way too much discussion about Obama getting the black, young, well-educated vote, and virtually NO discussion whatsoever about the fact that Hillary receives the vast majority of the non-english speaking vote! (Along with the uneducated, and older women.)
Puerto Rico will be  the perfect example of this! All of the non-english speaking foreigners who really don't know the issues or facts in this primary think they are voting for CLINTON to win for PRESIDENT!
They see the name CLINTON, and they're in!
(Good times!)

PLEASE help put an end to BUBBA'S CRUSADE to get back in the Whitehouse!

The Clinton's with all their "republican scare tactics" and negative campaigning have lost the respect of even some of their closest allies and dearest friends.

Hill's promises of universal healthcare will never get through the house and senate, none of the republicans will help to pass ANY of Hill's plans. It's just another pandering lie for all of you less intelligent people to buy into, so you'll vote for her & Bill! Her "gas tax holiday" (that was actually McCain's idea first), wouldn't even be voted on in the house & senate, and if it was; it would fail! If they really cared and wanted this; they needed to introduce it months ago, and even then; it would've failed!

Hillary follows McCain's lead, too often! Those "reagan democrats" that voted for her in PA, won't vote for Billary over McCain in the fall!

..........Bill really hopes all of this works out, so he can hire interns for Hill, conduct 'whale tail' thong inspections, and he might even get to play secretary with a cigar again!

..........Who knows?

He wants this more than she does; why do you think he has more campaign stops?

Help end the madness!

Vote Obama!
At this point, Obama's nomination is a done deal that is long past due.  The down side is the Clintons are obviously trying to prevent a November win for him.  Their egocentric, race-baiting, take no prisoners campaign seems designed to assure there is not a Democratic incumbant in 2012.  Good-bye Mr. Bill and Mz Hillary, take your burning crosses and white sheets back to Arkansas and leave the Democratic Party alone!

Politico.com says you are wrong: 270 vs. 268.8 with Obama in lead.

You believe Clinton camp?  Like the $10mm they claimed to have raised after PA?  I wouldn't believe them on a bet.
Why don't you publish your list of superdelegates for each candidate.  Other web sites that track supers don't conceal that information.  That way we can find out who the three secret Hillary candidates are.
I would like to 2nd Margaret's words.  This year I have been more interesed, therefore, more involved in what is happening politically and am completely horrified about how the media affects what happens.  I know it has at different times worked against each of the candidates, but the amount of airtime that was given to Rev. Wright was absolutely uncalled for.  What did Wright say?  What did Hillary say about what Wright said?  What did Obama say about what Hillary said about what Wright said?  Should Obama have said that about Wright? Etc, etc.  They try to justify their actions by saying that's what the people want ... it's sensationalism pure and simple.  And, Margaret is also correct about FL and MI ... it's a lot more complicated than is usually indicated when the topic comes up.

There have been many times when I heard a candidate's talk and later when I heard the pundits discussing that same time, I hardly recognized it.  A sentence taken out of context can completely change the meaning and those who didn't hear the complete discussion/talk leave with the wrong impression.  It is truly frightening how much power the media has and how lightly they take the responsibility of that power.
i can't wait till this is all over so that we the democrats that have voted for hillary switch to john mccain that will show the super delegate how to back stab a person go ahead switch to  the black candidate
we will show you when it's time to vote for them when they run for office the blacks do'nt vote for smaller office run. don't let the media tell you that when all of this is over the democrats will come together that's bull the african american may this a hated contest and that's what theyn will get
the delegates don't want it to get to puerto rico
that's ok we won't let obama win in november we
will campain very hard for him too lose no matter
if we need to switch our vote john mccain. lets see
what will then the blacks can blog all they want
obama will get woop.
please make it easy super delegate switch your vote now
don't wait do us all a favor be brave and show us       your legion this way we can make a fast decision and
work hard for mccain he's not a  G.BUSH  so we can work for him PLUS HE'S DEFENDED THE HISPANICS THAT'S ALOT  MORE THAN THE BLACKS HAVE DONE.
lets all chip in pay her debt so she can quit
TH LIGHTS WILL BE OUT IN NOVEMBER FOR OBAMA AND HE WILL BE LIKE GORE AND KERRY NO ONE WILL REMEMBER HIM EITHER.
BUT WEWILL REMEMBER HIS PASTOR AND HOW PROUD HIS WIFE
WAS OF THIS COUNTRY
.
Please!  Will the Obama supporters stop whining.  You candidate is basically within days of winning the nomination.  You should be celebrating not complaining!  Then, you need to figure out how we can all support Obama in the general election.  Please keep in mind, in the midst of your eurphoria, that no Kennedy wing democrat has ever won the White House (John Kennedy does not count...he was not a darling then of the left wing of the party and would not be now).  I'm talking about the Teddy Kennedy wing of the party.  Think of them, and tell me one member of that club who has won.  There aren't any.

I want to vote for Obama and to provide financial support as I did for Hillary, but two things need to happen.  First, you all (and Obama) have to stop trashing the Clintons (he has equated  them with Bush for months, making it a generational issue).  The second is that Obama has to share what he would actually do and demonstrate that he has the capacity to do it.  So far, I have seen much more across-the-isle collaboration from McCain and Clinton.  Obama, having talked about his ability to do this, now needs to demonstrate it.
Eric, Salinas, CA, You are right about this thing, Hillary should be begging. But don't you realize they already are spending money of Obama. They are smart, shameless deceits who have no respect for any rules, regulations and have an army of hooligans who will shoot you if you open your mouth against them.  God bless Obama , as he taken a stand against these two very unsavory characters.
Why are you f'n idiots trying to make it look like Hillary is still in the lead in supers???  According to demconwatch.blogspot.com/, who do nothing but watch the superdelegate count, have Barack at 271 and Clinton at 268.5?  She is losing and you won't confirm this.  Quit showing your bias toward Hillary when in reality she is behind in pledges delegates, super delegates, states won, popular vote and money raised.  Face it...your candidate is OUT!! Please tell her.  Thank you.
NPR reported NINE Supers for Obama today.

How about some NAMES so the rest of us know what the hell is going on?
Hey Super Delegates, can you not see the selfishness of Clinton yet.  Party be damned.  She doesn't care about party or country at all.

By you standing on the sidelines, all you are doing is feeding her selfishness and arrogance.

Stand tall and do what is right to end this.  REAL DAMAGE IS BEING DONE!

By the way:  Our whole family is white and were older.  And we know Obama stands head and shoulders above Clinton.  He has our vote.  Once others get over their emotions, he'll have theirs too because he has won FAIR and SQUARE.
Margaret Jordan, Seattle WA: You sound a lot like my wife. We've started spending more quality time in the garden and less listening to people who infer some claim to journalistic credentials. Bill Moyers and Charlie Rose are head and shoulders above anything eminating from the cable noise networks.

My wise mother once said, that the most frustrating thing for someone who needs attention, is to be
IGNORED. (And the hardest thing to DO.) And considering the monumental egos of the Clintons, this would especially be true. So politely, IGNORE HER!
Have the ship leave without her while she's off spinning in WV or wherever.
You know those Pink people that show up in bizarre
colorful outfits at Congressional hearings?  It so amuses me to watch everyone else in the room. No matter what the Pinks do, it's as if they are invisible.
Everyone just mills around and does their sedate thing. Interesting.
WOULD SOMEONE PLEASE GIVE HILLARY THE MEMO AND MAKE SURE SHE READS IT.
