Obama: Party like a…

Posted: Friday, May 09, 2008 9:22 AM by Domenico Montanaro

“Obama made a surprise visit yesterday to the floor of the House of Representatives, where he was welcomed like a rock star and greeted with calls of ‘Mr. President,’” The New York Post writes. “Rep. Charles Rangel (D-NY), who has also pledged his loyalty to Clinton, gave Obama a bear hug. Rep. Alcee Hastings (D-Fla.), a Clintonite who was in the mob of lawmakers who gathered around Obama, said most of the chatter was in the form of jokes - sort of. ‘It's all done in jest, but it's serious as cancer,’ Hastings said, quoting Obama as saying, ‘Now you can vote for me’ to a Clinton backer.

And, “Obama was asked whether it was appropriate for him to campaign there, and he responded, ‘I wasn't campaigning. I was saying hello.’”

Obama attended the DC celebration for Israel's 60th anniversary last night. "Obama said he would do everything in his power to ensure Israel's security and protect the relationship that exists between Israel and the U.S. ‘I pledge to you that I will do whatever I can in whatever capacity to not only ensure Israel's security but also to ensure that the people of Israel may thrive and prosper and build on the enormous promise that was made 60 years ago,' Obama … said at an event sponsored by the Israeli Embassy in Washington honoring the 60th anniversary of Israel's statehood. He was introduced by Sallai Meridor, Israel's ambassador to the U.S."

"Governor Deval Patrick, a big cheerleader for Barack Obama, is taking on another significant role as Obama pivots to general election mode. The Obama campaign announced yesterday that Patrick will be one of 14 national co-chairpersons of Vote for Change, a 50-state voter registration effort designed to build on Obama's success during the primaries in attracting new voters. The effort  kicks off tomorrow with events across the country."

Paul Krugman is gearing himself up for an Obama nomination. "The point is that Mr. Obama has an extraordinary opportunity in this year’s election. He should do everything possible to avoid squandering it."

Mocking Obama’s “Yes We Can” refrain, the RNC has unveiled a Web site entitled “Can We Ask?” Some of the questions, per a release:
-- Why, as an Illinois state Senator, did he vote “present” over 130 times instead of “yes” or “no” on difficult issues like abortion, crime, and guns?
-- On fiscal responsibility, how he intends to pay for over $660 billion in his new spending proposals and whether he can do it without raising taxes on families and small businesses?
-- Why he voted against funding for our troops after promising not to use them as pawns in a war funding debate?
-- Why did he tell donors in San Francisco that the economy has driven small town voters to “cling” to guns and religion?

Three points for people obsessively concerned with “white working class” voters:

1. Are black people supposed to hold themselves back just in case white people are not comfortable with them? Should Senator Obama not run for President just because some people don’t want to vote for a black person?

2. If Senator Obama is so unelectable, how come he has more votes, delegates, and funds than Senator Clinton and Senator McCain combined? How ironic that the candidate who is behind emphasized “electibility”. Electible candidates don’t have to lend their campaign $12 million dollars.

3. No matter who is the nominee, they have a 50% chance to win or lose. If Senator Obama is the nominee and he loses, he won’t be the first or the last. John Kerry lost and he wasn’t black. Al Gore lost and he wasn’t black.

Senator Obama has been the exact same candidate with the exact same message every since he emerged on the national political stage. Love him or hate him, he gets an A+ for consistency of message and organization . If he is not successful in his bid for the Presidency, it will not be because he is black. It will be because the Democratic Party put their loyalty to the Clintons ahead of the will of the people.

Obama ‘08/’12
the GAME is over. Let's be serious with the american people. The fact the hillary cannot make a good judgement to get out of the race means she is not fit to be vice president due to lack of judgement.
Obama firing up his engines and leaving the Clinton's sitting to the side wondering "what if....?"

With Obama now the man in the democratic party, we can start asking questions about the stuff that dogged him throughout his campaign.  The RNC has been laying in wait, waiting for th smoke to clear on the liberal battlefield.

let the war begin!
I hope that's not going their argument.  I think the people are gonna need to hear something new.  Now, do not start with the "well, most people did not hear these arguments" campaign.  We all know that most people, whether they would vote democratic or not, were fixated on the democratic race.  Most people rejected that those arguments from Hillary and that's why she's going home.  Come on people, bring something fresh for a change, will ya?  Take Newt's advice.  I trust McCain is smarter than that.
That's because Obama is a UNITER not a divider.  Take a look at Peggy Noonan WSJ's comments reagarding Clinton's latest atempt to cause racial division sounding more and more like Bucanhan and Limbaugh.  For Clinton to attempt to divide us is deplorable! She has ruined any chance to be the "leader" of a very diverse country. And, do the white folks who voted for Obama (I'm 64, a woman and a white worker) not count?  Iowa, Wisconsin, Virginia, Maryland, Missouri, Illinois, etc., etc..  What a crock and what a desperate move to appeal to the Limbaugh's of the world.  SHAME ON YOU AND YOUR LEGACY IS NO MORE.  Obama will win the nomination and folks like me will put him in the White House.  Women, men, all races, all ages and all say to HECK WITH YOU CLINTONS!
I am so tired of the double standard in our nation and the Democratic party. It’s okay for Obama to say things like, “typical white person” and his “bitter” comment about small town whites clinging to religion, guns, and antipathy toward anyone different from them, and can sit in a church for 20 years listening to a racist and anti-American pastor. But no matter what HRC or her supporters say or do it is racist. It appears that if they even question Obama they are racist. It is disgusting. I can NOT and will NOT ever vote for Obama who is an arrogant, inexperienced, lack of judgment, untruthful person.

A lot of arguments have been presented about which demographic group of voters is most important. All the voters are important, and any other claim is, at best, silly.

Special notice is owed to the younger voters. They are bright, talented and informed. They are embracing and contributing the best of ideas of the Democratic Party. They are declining the destructive approaches that have or should have been left to the other party.

The future of the Democratic Party looks bright. Time to embrace it?
How are Democrats going to “Bring America together” if they constantly break out groups based on RACE? The very words they choose are Divisive! Chickens coming home to roost indeed
Obama has only begun  to be looked at. The media gave him and his people the look of acceptability and now will pull it out from under them. They are not afraid of being called names and chanted to  and when they threaten they will be laughed at. Obama knows he hasnt gotten this nomination yet thats why he has sent out people to Hillarys and Bills rallys to heckel them. I am glad this happened cause it shows her supporters it isnt over yet or they wouldnt be so afraid.Lets post Hillarys notes too please. This is not helping the party to show only one sided posts. Not saying your trying to help party either LOl but.......
What has happened to the Democrats? I am amazed at the things coming out of some of their mouths…this includes Hillary, Barack and others. I must have missed something along the way. I had no idea the party was so disconnected, self-destructive, sexist, and racist. I guess you learn something everyday, but man, what an eye-opener. McCain is looking more and more like the appropriate person for the job, I have to say. There is no way I would vote for Clinton or Obama at this point…way too risky a venture. I was fairly certain before now, but after the past few days, it’s a definite.
Wow, has the McCain campaign not been paying attention?  None of those questions and lines of attack worked at all for Clinton, why do they think it will work for them?

If this is the best they got, this might end up being a Democratic version of the Reagan sweep.
Obama (Bill Clinton 2)of course he was just saying hello.
It amazes me how you Domenico and others at MSNBC can reel us in with baiting headlines of a possible unslanted piece on Sen. Obama and then slip the insinuations in (biased toward Sen. Clinton or her campaign in some form, of course)with that ability to invoke just the right amount of sarcasm that has become the norm of late with this crew of "journalists".

Clearly the reception Sen. Obama received yesterday is irritating to those seething with (fill in the blank) but I find it fascinating that you choose to print an alleged quote from a Clinton supporter as to his real purpose there (campaigning or saying hello). Given your track record of late where Sen. Obama is concerned Mr. Montanro (and others), I'll take this particular part of the article with a grain of salt and be glad that my choice for POTUS received such a warm welcome from his colleagues.
I'm sure it was a lift for Obama to get some support from his fellow Congresspeople as he moves forward in both the Primary and the General Election fight.

Those questions from the Republicans are hardly surprising...I'm looking forward to more discussions on issues as the two move forward (no, I'm not naive).

GOTV baby, that's the key.  I'm hoping to personally help with that effort as my kids activities wind down by the end of the month.
(Article was a bit conviluded) but couldn't resist the title.

Party like a rock...
Party like a rockstar
Party like a rock...
Party like a rockstar
If that is all the RNC has got on Senator Obama, I suggest they just concede now.

Can I Ask?

How come John McCain has Senator Lieberman following him around and whispering the right answer in his ear?

How come John McCain helped the Savings and Loans swindle all those peoples money as a part of the Keating 5?

Why did John McCain say we would "never again" have to go to war for oil?

Why is John McCain is trying to scam the campaign finance reform system that bears his name?

Obama '08/'12
This shows how Obama isnt accountable to anyone and shouldnt be nom. He is in this for his ego and when someone thinks he isnt included in rules (like not campaigning)shows the changes he intends to make. What makes us think he wont change the other rules like presadent time limits and constitution. His first  priorety is blacks and Africa. He clings to this new pastor who haS ALREADY spoken out about the jewish " pimp" This is the man defended Wright and now has Obamas ear. Please before its to late dont give the White House away again.Obama will never win in Nov.We know how he works now so do the Repubs. We thought we had it sewed up before with Kerry and Gore. Its the electrate and Hillary has that .
Pat never has anything nice to say about obama,he should just shut up.
This is a wonderful time for Obama. His confidence is up. His party is excited. Even some repubs seem happy.

He is getting a glimpse into how the repubs will come at him, and while Hillary is rummaging around, he can have a think, are tool up for them. Although I have no doubt, his team is well prepared for the GE.

Yo, repubs, it's the issues, you swine!
You could do an entire reality series based on the theme of can we ask. Of course the Dems will cry racist-why would anyone question a black candidate in the same manner they would a white one?
Barry needs to get his pads and helmet on-we've got a lot of questions about him and he hasn't answered the ones already posed to our satisfaction-you give a nice speech when it's written out for you-when it's a conversation it's a lot of stuttering and stammering. Empty sound bites only work on dummacrats-your entering the big leagues now.
so this is the Mcbomb plan,to try to bring the present vote issue, are you trying to use the hillbillys play book,i guess since you are both such (good friends) you would use the bush rove plan.Obama has a plan to raise the money by stoping the bush-Mcbomb  tax breaks that are given to the poor oil companys.Obama plans to change this.On the war issus, you voted for it and stood by with lil bushie on it.Enough said on that!If you want to bring up a persons poor choice of words like old johnney stumbles thur his, you might as well pack your bus and drive off into the sunset.Thats what most 72 year olds do.At your age they retire
Clinton supporters get over it and get on with it.  She lost, he won.  Now join the party and let’s move on to beating McCain.
Can we ask...
1) Why did John McCain vote against the Bush tax cuts, but as the republican candidate, is pushing to make them permanent?
2) Why did John McCain think that the Iraq War would be a fairly easy task?
3) Why did John McCain vote against defining "waterboarding" as torture, after referring to it as torture?
4) Why were Hagee, Fallwell, Robertson, & Parsley "agents of intolerance" then, but their endorsements sought after now?
5) Why do you describe your pursuit of Osama Bin Laden as "following him to the gates of hell", when those gates close at the Pakistan border?
6) Do you think it is smart diplomacy, and mature for a presidential candidate to sing "bomb bomb bomb Iran"?
7) If our journey into Iraq later created what's known as "Al Qaeda in Iraq", then why do you think remaining there will force them to leave? (Stray cats like warm milk, & we're giving them the milk)
8) You recently stated that we need to end our dependence on foreign oil, so that we do not need to fight wars in the middle east. Finally, a republican has admitted that this war was not over WMDs, but the influence & control of oil & energy.
Being a member of Congress, is it really surprising that he would walking into an office building?  If it is, then you should ask why is it surprising.

Obama support for Israel has been mentioned several times.  I don't think that he is going to change his stance on that given that Israel is the only real democracy in the region.  It is a consistant ally to the US.
Mocking Obama’s “Yes We Can” refrain, the RNC has unveiled a Web site entitled “Can We Ask?” Some of the questions, per a release:

And so it begins ... out side of "borrow and spend", what are the Republicans bringing to the table.

This time, instead of voting against abortion and gay marriage, and for prayer and guns (those issues will never go away) -- vote for your wallet , vote for the economy, vote for the environment, vote for jobs.

Vote Democratic 2008 -- don't let the corporations and their Republican stooges win again.
Those last two "Can We Ask?" questions have already been answered by Senator Obama and his campaign. Repeatedly. So, to answer: No, you may not ask redundant questions.
I guess the republican will bring all they can to their lost cause.
Let's see my guess he voted present because he did not like something about the bill, its done all the time. He did vote on over 700 other bills. But they
do not mention that.
He did vote to fund the troops even thought he opposed the war..
Maybe one vote he opposed.Tells us more.Be specific.

The people in small town do get bitter at times over a government that does not care what happens to them, and then they go hunting to forget about it, big deal.
Maybe he could have use a gentler way to put it.
I think the hunters can handle it. They know bitter when they see it.
We would like a young, athletic president who can talk well, move fast and has good judgement.
McCain it is time to retire old boy, maybe you should go hunting.Take your wife jet and go on vacation , you have 8 houses to choose from and all paid for.
Oh geez. Is that all the Republicans can come up with?  Why should we even have an election?  It will be an Obama "slam dunk!"

The Republicans have a big problem. Actually, they have two. The first problem, is John McCain! How he can embrace President Bush policies is beyond reason. The second problem, is Barack Obama. When you stand that smart young man against McCain, you truly get a feel for what the Republican party stands for. They are a party of old ideas and old ways. Change is not their strong suite. They are tough, but this country needs to change direction. I like Mr. McCain, but he is not going to change a thing. The world is watching, let us as Americans get this election right. Barack Obama is the better of the two.
That's It? Thats all they got??

This is gonna be easy...

Most of the "issues" have already been addressed in depth...Have the RNC been paying attention... This is boring stuff...

HA....HA....The Republicans are delusional....THEY are finish and no matter who the Democratic nominee becomes...they will never win.  AND when it becomes Barack Obama....they will crawl back into there holes and spend the money they stole from the America people and be less than a bad memory
i will not vote for him. this is not a Rock Star and we don't need one with the country in this shape. i will vote for MCCain or not at all.
whatever. king of the panderers=NObama
I was just at the new RNC Website. It was what i expected. No plans of fixing the economy or our standards in the world. If that is all they have so far on Obama, I can only imagine the type of losses they will receive this november on all levels of the government. So so sorry. You have my simpathy.
These are the same questions the Democrats should be asking him.But they havn't and they won't.Nancy Pelosi clones----oh no we cannot impeach Bush I love posing with him in pictures while I smile at him.
love the web site "can we ask"
"Mocking Obama’s “Yes We Can” refrain, the RNC has unveiled a Web site entitled “Can We Ask?” Some of the questions, per a release:"
--Ha Ha!  The Republican attack machine has nothing new and nothing previously deemed as important.  Ha!
The Swiftboaters raise their ugly head again...
Good for the RNC.  They forgot some important questions.  Why did you sit in that church for 20 years listening to anti-American hate?  Why did you expose your daughters to that same hate talk?  Why is the leader of Hamas listed as a fund-raiser on your website?  Why are you friends with Wm Ayers?  How did your wife get a $200,000/ year raise after you got that hospital a grant? What is a "typical white person"?  There's lots more to ask. And, for once, Obama better be ready to answer.
I think the RNC should ask themselves -- What have we done to improve the USA's economy? Why haven't we brought peace anywhere? Why can't we figure out a way out of Iraq? Why did we support George Bush? What in the world are we going to do, once we're out of office?
