No day off for Clinton

NEW YORK -- Think Hillary Clinton is giving up? A look at her schedule suggests otherwise.

Clinton said last week that all she wanted for Mother’s Day was a day off. But on Sunday she’ll be making at least three campaign stops in West Virginia, a state she has called a “test” for herself and Barack Obama.

Today, Clinton marked the holiday by appearing with Chelsea at a low-dollar fundraiser in Midtown Manhattan. And she talked about the epic campaign, joking that it seems like it began “a 100 years ago.”

“People ask me all the time, ‘Well don’t you get tired?’” she said. “Well physically, of course. It’s grueling, and it’s demanding. But I never ever get tired of meeting people and hearing their stories and listening to what they hope our next president will do.”

She told the mostly female audience that their support has “sustained” her throughout her effort, and said the campaign has been “a joy.”

“Now I know that may be hard to believe,” she said. “But if you would just take the advice that I give to my own mother, and that is just turn off the television, you will really enjoy this experience. Because what I hear and what I see is all about how we’re going to finish this nominating contest, which we will do. Then we will have a nominee, and we will have a unified Democratic Party, and we will stand together, and we will defeat John McCain in November and go on to the White House.”

And as she talked about her plans, she talked about words of wisdom she’d received from her mother, and how “exciting” it would be for the nation to have a mother in the Oval Office.

“Part of what that would mean is that we would have someone who has lived the experiences that many of us share,” she said. “And we would be focusing on how we’re going to help families balance the work that they have to do outside the home and the really important work they do inside the home.”

Standing beside Chelsea, she said that being her mom “has been the greatest experience of my life” and thanked her for putting “her life on hold” to “make this journey together.” Earlier, Chelsea said that she knew her mother would make the strongest candidate and best president.

“I know that’s true not only for me today at 28, but also increasingly as I realize for the family that I will likely have under the next president, and because I know my mother does fight for families,” she said.

Isn't it funny that any state that Senator Clinton feels
she will win is the new "test state?"  It really does make her sound ridiculous after awhile.

And First Read:  Some news organizations are reporting that Senator Obama has taken the lead in superdelegate count.  Has he or hasn't he?

Thanks.
I agree with one thing that Clinton said.  Senator Obama will defeat John McCain and go on to the White House.

Obama in 2008.  Integrity matters and the Clintons have none.  Pick a female running mate, Senator Obama.  Don't pick Hillary.  You don't want to have to spend the next eight years sleeping with one eye open.
Hillary the people of American have spoken and they said NO to your tricks and gimmicks. You made a fool of yourself this year with your racial undertones. The Clinton's name will go down in history. I can't WAIT for the movie my producers are making with all actual video and comments. We're taking this to the big screen and to make matters even worst, we're doing a 10 year anniversary movie in 10 years to REMIND the people of just who you, bill, Toto, little Danny Williams and Toto’s father Webster Hubbell and of course your two corrupt brothers.

We plan to make MILLIONS of the truth!

Pack your trash because you will NOT be re-elected in NYS for anything!

Bye!
She has NEVER shared the experiences of most of us. But I suppose all those that she was talking to at the lunch were all rich elitists. Not regular middle class folks.
wow this is really akward and sad sooooo sad. maybe mike huckabee should go and talk her down.
We Hate Russert..... clap clap clap clap clap.
As a late 40's woman, I have to say that my decision to support Obama was met by some with different reactions.  My logic has been that for those issues that matter most to me personally, Obama won me over by a few hair's breadths over Clinton.

For this reasoned approach, I have been called a "self hating woman", a "traitor" and worse.  Which brings me to the question of:  If the whole point of feminism was to unshackle ourselves from not only male domination but also from traditional thought patterns and roles, then why are some women treating other women in a way that is blatantly patrimonial in nature.  Like I have no right to think or act as an individual but must be part of this "group", never to stray from their chosen beliefs and convictions.  BAH!  It's as bad sometimes as the patrimonial system we have been fighting against!!!

They should be happy.  The true mark of a mature movement and it's integration into the societal norms IS the fact that we have moved beyond these old, tired and divisive arguements and in fact incorporated the best parts of the movement into society as a whole.  To a point where it's not considered "wierd" anymore but just normal.

As an American first, it saddens me that we have reached the point in this campaign of "us" vs. "them".  I thought the Democratic party were better than the Republicans.  Hillary is correct:  We will eventually have a nominee.  We will unite around them.

But, if we keep on trying to destroy each other and cause hatred, hostility and yes, bitterness within the Party, we will NOT beat the Republicans and re-take the White House.

Please...I am reaching out to my sisters and other Hillary supporters.  Please lets unite and concentrate on winning in November.  This bickering and divisiveness will destroy us and then we will have another 4 years of Bush.  In fact, I probably will not be blogging anywhere until the primary season is at a conclusion so as not to let my emotion get in the way of logical thought.  I invite others to do the same and start the healing process whichever way they see fit.

Women for Obama.

By no means at all am I a Hillary fan, but she needs to take Mother's Day off.  What is she trying to prove?
You know what? The whole "nobody would be a better President than me" schtick is getting a bit old. Apparently America didn't agree. A dash of humility here would taste soooooo good.
It's 3 AM and a phone is ringing in a Hampton Inn in West Virginia.

"No mom, I don't want to spend mother's day on some hillbillie's front porch answering questions about your stupid gas tax holiday!!!!"

Chelsea, end this, endorse Obama like all your friends your own age have
It wasn’t just the pardons that sullied the Clintons’ exit from the White House. They took furniture and rugs from the White House collection that had to be returned. And they received $86,000 in gifts during the president’s last year in office, including clothing (a pantsuit, a leather jacket), flatware, carpeting, and so on. In response to the outcry over that, they decided to repay the value of the gifts.

So class is not a Clinton forte.

But it’s one thing to lack class and a sense of grace, quite another to deliberately try and wreck the presidential prospects of your party’s likely nominee — and to do it in a way that has the potential to undermine the substantial racial progress that has been made in this country over many years.

The Clintons should be ashamed of themselves. But they long ago proved to the world that they have no shame.

Good Lord, how many more nails need to be put into her political 'coffin' before she just steps away?

She's becoming an embarassment to women everywhere...
You media people need to stop writing about the black and white thing. You people are perpetuating the divide along with Billary. We need to come together as The powerful Dem. Party!
I am an Obama supporter and have been since the day he announced he was running so I have been on this whole ride, and while I have no respect for the campaign Mrs. Clinton has run, I must say that I feel quite sorry for her at this point.  The contest is clearly over now, Sen Obama is the nominee, and I think Hillary should grant her own wish and take Mother's day off to be with her husband and daughter.  She has had a great run, she came up short, now she really needs to be person of class and concede her defeat.  I know some of you will say she has no class as proven by some of her campaign tactics.  I too think some of her tactics were reprehensible, but I do believe that in her soul she truly believes she has the best vision of the future of this country and is proving very difficult for her to wrap her mind around that fact that American's have given that mantle over to Mr. Obama so now we MUST unite  around him to insure that our great country will again see days of prosperity, and our children and grandchildren will see that we had the courage and vision to change the old ways of Washington before it was too late to save this world for them and all future generations.  UNITE AMERICANS!!
I want MY daughter to see a president who has integrity. That is why I am supporting Barack Obama.
OK, Haters!  Not ONE person says she should just bow out without finishing out the last 4 weeks, as long as Obama does NOT beat her in SDs.  She's BEEN projected to win WV AND KY.  However, at the rate he's picking them up & SHE'S LOSING them, the SD lead will be won by Obama very soon.  Don't think she'll need to waste any more $, getting further into debt, by campaigning in OR.  She fought well, at the beginning, but then allowed herself to turn into Grandpa Munster McCain!

How about a new strategy, Clintonite's?  How about YOU start treating OBAMA & his supporters with the same dignity, respect, & courtesy that HE'S shown your candidate & you all?  Oh, sorry...That sounds fair...And Clinton & her maniacs don't do "fair"!
what a pitty?i feel sorry for her.she is pathetic.she is the meanest of the mean.,,,,,,,,
Hillary's new commercial. She's the one in black:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2eMkth8FWno
Hillary is the best person to take on not only McCain
but the entire Republican attack machine which
have there guns loaded and ready for a fight.
If Obama is the nominee, the guns will come out
blasting and knock him back to Chicago, where he
belongs. The DNC will suffer yet another lose at
winning the White House---and of course they
will blame it on Clinton---what a shame.
Just think---Obama---175 days in the Senate, Clinton
35 years of hands on experience---against McCain
----DNC shame on you should you annoint Obama. It
is time to change party affilation---the DNC is
pathetic with all there pandering to a man with
little economical, international, persona,
experience. I am no longer proud to call myself
a democrate and I will be changing my association
real soon. Good night Obama---your toast.
Hillary, please honey rest up and be sure to take a little time off to pay respects to the loving, supportive family that you've created.  Bill and Chelsea love you.  And so many Americans do too!!  If the Lord wills it, you will be the nominee.  If not, it is my hope that he will gift us with a leader to continue on the dreams and wishes of an administration that you've fought so hard to preserve and acquire.

Democrats 08!
