GOPer compares brand to bad dog food

From NBC's Mike Viqueira
A former House GOP leader is calling this year's political atmosphere "the worst since Watergate and is far more toxic than the fall of 2006," citing "deep seeded (sic) antipathy toward the president."

Rep. Tom Davis wrote a 20-page treatise (see earlier note) assessing the state of the Republican Party as we head into the summer and presented it to House GOP rank and file this morning. Davis, who is retiring, is rumored to be interested in finishing his term as the head of the GOP House campaign arm.

We are hearing a lot today from Republicans and their concern about their "brand," and Davis takes it to another level in his memo; "a congressional GOP brand tied to George Bush is struggling"; "...deep seeded antipathy toward the president, the war, gas prices, the economy, foreclosures and, in some areas, the underlying cultural differences that continue to brand our party."

And the kicker, "the Republican brand is in the trash can...if we were dog food, they would take us off the shelf."

And just in case anyone is laboring under the illusion that the party can remake itself in the image of John McCain, Davis asserts, "McCain has his own branding and it is not consistent with congressional Republican branding."

Up-and-coming Rep. Eric Cantor thinks that "the paradigm has shifted" for Republicans, and that what has happened last night in Mississippi, and earlier in Illinois and Louisiana, is a "trailing indicator" of an unpopular administration.

Trying to link Democratic candidates to Obama "just didn't work" in Cantor's view.

"The country doesn't want to hear too liberal, too this, too that," he said. The country wants positive solutions, he added. Cantor’s statements are directed not only at party leadership, but also at grassroots and state-party establishments.

It remains to be seen whether the fallout from Mississippi will result in heads rolling here in Washington. Meetings continue tonight and tomorrow morning.

...as in the bad dog food that killed so many people's beloved pets last year?  What an unreal analogy.

"The country wants positive solutions, he added."

DING DING DING DING!  Tell him what he won, Jay!  Sheesh.
I think the country is not interested in Republican or Democrat. We are worried about our economy and this sensless war. I am worried about my health care. Go Obama, I want someone who is smart to help my country.
This is consistent with my gut-level feeling.  I just hope us Dems don't blow it by (1) overconfidence and/or (2) over-reaching.

America's problems are too big for either party alone to address.  It's going to take humbled Republicans plus humble Dems to tackle the problems TOGETHER.  Can it be done?

Yes, we can!

Obama '08
John McCain has muddied his own "brand." And, in a bigger shock for the GOP, voters no longer want to hear the "swiftboating" that they plan for Obama (or Obama plans for McCain). Solutions, not symbolism, please. Folks are engaged and serious about this election.
bad dog food indeed ...
Such a nice slander article against the GOP, doesn't matter, because with who your party is nominating the only thing McCain has to do is wave and smile and he has the election....  This will be what 3 losses in a row?
Johnny "Come Lately" McCain will not fool enough epople with his cunning rebranding of himself.  There is no way we Democrats will allow "Tailhook" Johnny from escaping the close association he had with "Warmonger" Bush.

Go Obama 08/12!
this is pretty easy problem to solve THROW BUSH UNDER THE BUS you need to show people that you dont share bushes veiw override his vetos come out and denounce him its drastic but your other choicees leave you out of a job come november
When are they gonna get it? It's not the party "brand," it's the party ideology! I'd welcome (though I'm not entirely convinced I'd ultimately vote for) a GOP candidacy by Chuck Hagel or (former Republican) Lincoln Chafee. But I have no interest in Republicans who act like Harry Truman, as Bush and McCain do, or like God-endowed governmental liberals, the way Mike Huckabee does. All the GOP candidates this time 'round fell into one, or both, of those camps, and the American people, particularly Republicans, are sick of it! If Republicanism were the same as it was in Teddy Roosevelt's day, I'd be a proud Republican. As it is, I'm simply a lukewarm Democrat.
Dear Republicans,
We are asking that you please stay home on election day.  You fouled our entire country up by placing an idiot and his henchmen in office.  If you don't know how to vote responsibly you should not play with the voting booths.  The  voting booths are where adults choose someone to lead the country into prosperity.  Don't make us call your parents.
I'm glad the GOP can actually see themselves for what they are!  The last eight years has been a dismal failure that has brought this country to the brink of ruin.  The economy is much worse than we are being told.  According to the federal reserve websites their non-borrowed deposits were 27 billion in December 2007, in April they are minus 50 billion.  Thats 50 billion in the hole.  Looking backj at their records that go back to 1959 this has NEVER happened before, they have never been in negative territory.
OH NO!

Patty,SD's little vote isn't gonna count in the GE because her new found party has just imploded. What a shame. What will all the angry Clinton supporters who care more about there hurt feelings than the future of this country gonna do? There vote for the dark side won't matter! It won't teach us whacky Obama supporters anything!
What a great news day this has been!
All GOP heads should roll. Look what you've done. The thought of having any republican near any seat of power now makes me physically ill. This election can not come soon enough. If the people of this country could run all of you out on a rail, there would be a line from Washington, D.C. to California.
They have it right.  The Millenials are angry and impoverished, workers struggle to afford healthcare, and the party continually sends our kids away to die in Iraq (unfortunately he 100,000th death was drowned out by selfish Ms. Clinton).  I find it surprising that the Clintonistas would vote Republican if she doesn't win.  Do they agree with any over her policies besides her female gender?
And the kicker, "the Republican brand is in the trash can...if we were dog food, they would take us off the shelf."
---------------------------------------------------
If you were dog food you would be recalled as unfit for human consumption.
To the Independent who was frustrated with the Dem Congress:

Please do not blame the Democratic Congress for not getting our troops out of Iraq in the past two years.  Let's not forget they asked "Warmonger" Bush to change his plan by reducing troop levels.

What was "Warmonger" Bush's response except to come up with his "surge" plan which was nothing but abusing our troops for republican political cover for this election cycle.  This whole surge was meant to quiet down Iraq as a political problem after they lost the 2004 elections badly.  Al Maliki was doing his flunkie part by not allowing reporters to report on suicide bomb attacks in Iraq, thus taking the politically damaging pictures off the air.

Don't blame the Dems for not having a veto/fillibuster proof majority to really make change happen in Iraq.  Please have faith that with Barack Obama as president with a large Democratic majority in both houses of Congress we will support our troops by getting them out of harm's way.

Why do the "Warmongers" Bush/McCain and republicans hate our soldiers so much?  Only they would abuse our soldiers with so many multiple combat tours.  Only the Democrats truly support our soliders and their families and we will get them out of harm's way and finish off Osama bin Laden once and for all, something the warmongers didn't want to do.

Go Obama 08/12!
Every dog has it's day, It's your turn GOP.ROFLMAO
I would like to thank Karl Rove for the self destruction of the republican party.  Thanks Karl, we Democrats could never have done this without your help.  I'm sure your honorary membership card is in the mail from Howard Dean.

Go Obama 08/12!
Speaking of branding, George Bush got in trouble at Yale for branding his fraternity pledges with a red hot coathanger and defended it. We can see the roots of torture in a sociopath.

""a series of 1967 Yale Daily News articles that exposed DKE's rush activities, which at the time included brandings and alleged beatings. Soon after these stories were published, the University's Inter-Fraternity Council fined the fraternity for performing "physically and mentally degrading acts," and the Times published an article in which Bush defended the brandings, comparing them to cigarette burns.
The News article, published Nov. 3, 1967, featured a photograph of a half-inch high "D" burned into a pledge's naked backside.
In a News story the next day, Bush is quoted calling the branding "insignificant." He said he did not understand how the News "can assume Yale has to be so haughty not to allow this type of pledging to go on." "

also:

"According to childhood friends, Bush used to blow up frogs with firecrackers and shoot them with BB guns. As several therapists have pointed out, this cruelty to animals is a trait he shares with many serial killers.  Several therapists have commented about Bush's sadistic tendencies and his lack of empathy."

sniff, sniff, sniff.  Poor GOP.  That's what you get when you have a 50%+1 strategy and then you alienate 15% of that original 50%.
Tom Davis might want to finish his term as the campaign arm head, but these problems won't be solved by November. The GOP has no leverage to build with.
...the bad dog food at least has the decency to kill the dog!
The Goper brand isn't like bad dog food, it's like stepping in bad dog doo!

Go Obama 08/12!
This can't be worse then the Obama fanatics giving every last dime they havetotheir hero, only to find out much of it is going to be used to pay off Hillary's debt. Enjoy the 'bad dog food' you Obama-nuts will have to eat while Hillary eats prime rib!
Gee, seems like everybody wants to blame it on Bush, like they didn't have any responsibility for their own votes.  That's the kind of logic that my children use.  But I know one republican that's doing pretty well these days.  That brave lone voter amongst a sea of sheep known in congress only as "Dr. No".  He just won his Texas congressional seat back for the 11th time, 70 to 30, and his book is #1 on the New York Times Best Seller list this week.  Maybe some of his collegues should start reading it and find out what they're doing wrong.
well...well...well...

looks like "the chickens have come home to roost"

LOL
Rob Roy! Now there's a dog food that can clear any room.

But look at the bright side...  In Congress, the Republican side of the aisle should be more spacious.  They could certainly spread out more, maybe bring in some cots, because they won't have enough votes to do anything legislative.  Ha!

--It is the war that has the Republicans in a rut (as a main reason anyway).  And they all dismiss it as a reason.  I'm sorry to say, but Katrina and spending is not what got them in this predicament--and it also isn't their way out.
We will vote for John McCain in November and straight Democrats in the down ballots.
Carol Stremski,

It's seems she's been serving prime rib during her caimpaign and that's why she's in debt. How does Obama like his prime rib! WELL DONE, but not OVERCOOKED(Hillary).

I love how everyone here seems to blame the Republicans for all the ills facing the nation today. The Democrats are the ones in charge of the House and the Senate and are the branches of government responsible for the financial policy of goverment. I do not see the Democrats doing anything about controling spending any more than the Republicans so if you want to lay blame then vote your Rep. and Sen. out of office regradles of their party and vote in a new one.
No more Bush, enough is enough,
I could vote for Mccain, but probably will vote for obama, even though I hate the democratic party.
What the hell happened to the GOP?
A total and complete meltdown, them and their stupid mission accomplished freedom fries.
