Clinton: Furor at NARAL

Posted: Friday, May 16, 2008 9:13 AM by Mark Murray

Here’s yet another story about how Clinton supporters are angry with NARAL’s endorsement of Obama. “Clinton supporters in the blogosphere said they perceived it as a badly timed gratuitous slap at Mrs. Clinton as she grapples with the likely end of her quest for the presidency. It came on the same day that Mr. Obama received the support of former Senator John Edwards of North Carolina, and his backers hailed it as further evidence that the nomination fight was drawing to a close.”

The Boston Globe’s Lehigh writes, “[T]he notion that sexism is primarily to blame for Clinton's woes doesn't pass logical muster. Consider: Last fall, Clinton was widely judged the prohibitive front-runner for the Democratic presidential nomination. In early October, she led Obama by a staggering 53 percent to 20 percent in the Washington Post/ABC News poll. At that point, her average lead in national polls was 20 percentage points. Therefore, if gender bias really were the cause of her primary problem, one would have to posit that a epidemic of resurgent sexism suddenly infected the country late last year.”

“Clinton scolded John McCain Thursday for opposing the farm bill, attempting to maintain the sense that she is already competing against the certain Republican presidential nominee even as her chances of winning the Democratic nomination dim.”

The sexism in this campaign from the Democrats in general, and Barack Obama in particular, have set womans rights back decades. Women will stay home in droves this fall. No way do we support Obama.
How many times did we hear about what Hillary was wearing, how her body had shall we say "matured", and what her hair looked like? Never heard anything like that about Barack. If that's not sexism, I don't know what is.
It's disappointing for Clinton supporters that her once inevitable nomination hasn't materialized but despite their loud protestations to the contrary, it's not because she's a woman.  It's because she's run a disorganized campaign and has shown herself to be duplicitous.   Yes, there are nasty sexists out there who have said some crazy things.  But that's not why she's losing.
Many people know that you are the better candidate Hilary. You're statements are far stronger - as well as other dems like Biden - than Obama could muster.

You have more courage, guts, knowledge and resolve. You know how to deal with this Repubs as they oppose you for many years (even if you campaign for something that would benefit everyone), they've called you names and prayed that you get hit by lightning. You fought them tooth and nail as well as reached across the aisle and worked with them.

Unfortunately, we know that a little over half of the dems want the new exciting kid on the block. Enough to put you aside.

While we heed your call to support him in November, we also ask that you remain committed to your cause.

If offered a VP spot, please don't accept it. With your grasps and knowledge of issues, you are best to be the majority leader. I bet you'll do more than Pelosi and Reid combined. For you can get things done and not afraid to take on the bullies.

I can only pray and hope that the Obama who wasn't able to answer my question about the difference in Insurgency and Terrorism do not get his behind kicked by the likes of Iran and Russia and North Korea. I hope he can stir this economy back to where it should be. For our future and our lives and our children's lives are at stake.

MSNBC this is from the heart, pleast post this comment. Thank you.
Hillary's loss has nothing to do with sexism. This was her campaign to lose and SHE, alone, lost it by NOT running an efficient campaign, arrognatly thinking she was "entitled", her endless lies, and her kitchen-sink Republican strategy that came back to bite her in the butt. The way Obama has run his campaign is nothing short of stellar and if this is an indication of things to come, bring it on! He has class and dignity, something we are just beginning to see Hillary display. She lost this race herself.
hillary is the first woman to ever come this close to winning a presidential race  boston globe lehigh says this was no bias -- please give me a break.
-
HILLARY IS LOSING BECAUSE OF HER "UNFAVORABILITY."

THE POLLS HAVE SHOWN FOR YEARS THAT A MAJORITY VIEW HER UNFAVORABLY.  HER DRAMA-LIKE SPEECHES COULDN'T CHANGE THAT.  HER PATHOLOGICAL LYING AND RACE-BAITING CAUGHT UP WITH HER.  SHE IS A LOSER.  R.I.P.

I don't know why HRC should feel a sense of entitlement about an endorsement from NARAL.  I've never felt abortion was a sexist issue.  No matter where you stand on the issue, let's face it -- if abortion is legal, it "benefits" the woman, but doesn't it also benefit the men who have avoided fatherhood?  And if you're against it, then the "evildoers" who seek abortion should include not only the mother but the father who helped get her in that situation. As for the unborn, I believe they are both female and male, are they not?  These are rhetorical questions, the point is why should NARAL not support a male candidate as well as a female when their positions are essentially the same?  Anything else would represent SEXISM.
Come on - Sexism!  If it were sexism she would not have been ahead by 30 to 40 points at the beginning of this process.  She had this thing wrapped up but ended up losing, not because she is a woman but because her campaign was poorly managed, inconsistant, and they believed there own hype. they thought that they would have it done by 2/5 and they did not.  that is why she is 20 million in debt.  Want to set the Women's movement back decades???  Go and vote for McCain!  Curb the anger and vote for the Democrat!
I find it interesting that all these organizations up to and including the Democratic National Committee, go running to the Clintons when they need an endorsement, money, or media exposure.
But, they pay Hillary back by slapping her right in the face during this election cycle. If I were her, or if I were Bill Clinton I would tell them all to go to hell the next time they come knocking.
Jen Riley:  Speak for yourself.  I am a woman and you do not speak for me.  I fully support Barack Obama and will continue to do so through to the November general election.  Remember, conservatives swore they would never support John McCain either but the vast majority of them are jumping on board.  If women don't want two or three more conservative judges named to the Supreme Court that will SURELY overturn Roe V. Wade, then you might want to rethink your vehemence!
I am horrified at the actions of my fellow women at desecrating NARAL over their endorsement.  For so-called feminists to suggest that we always have to choose the woman over any man (when both are similar on the issues) is not my understanding of what feminism is...(and I am reacting to more extreme actions than were profiled in this blog entry, I read about them in Huffington, I believe yesterday).

I agree with the Boston Globe also.  There are MANY woman and many woman in HIllary's so-called demographic supporting Obama, some of us also supported Edwards, many of us used to support her.  We are perfectly willing to support women, just not Hillary Clinton in this race.

Sigh, can our fellow women really not understand that?

Feminism is being able to vote for the best candidate and not having it automatically go to someone because of identity politics.  Obama is surrounded by many strong women, we have no evidence to suggest that he won't be good on women's issues.
Hey Hillary - Get Over It!  And she wonders why she's losing so much support from former supporters.  This is exactly why she could not win the Democratic Party primary.

Go Obama 08/12!
If women wish to insist that Hillary lost because Obama was a sexist (Please give me an example of Obama's sexism) what about the injection of race in the primary. I don't care who did it, but both candidates had to deal with issues that were bad for them. obama had one station that talked all bad about Obama 24 hours a day (fox news). hillary had here detractors to be sure, but they were no worse than Obama's. Plus Obama had blatant untrue e-mails about him circling around.
The fact of the matter is that both had obstacles, but Obama was the better candidate because HE BEAT HER. There is no way Hillary shoul have lost. She was unorganized, outcampaigned, outperformed for about 3 months and before she knew it, he had built a lead that she could not overtake. If you want to blame anyone...blame Mark penn...his strategy is what lost it for Hillary!
Did it ever occur to anyone that it isn't sexism?

Did it ever occur to anyone that we watched Senator Clinton's campaign and, while we don't have an issue with a woman being President, we have issues with this particular woman being President?
I find it absolutely facinating and totally frustrating, that all I have heard since Hillary crushed Obama in W. Virgina, is how Obama needs to surround himself with people who know about Foreign Policy, someone who will get him the middle-class vote, the Jewish vote, the Senior vote, the Women's vote, the list goes on and on!  We already have someone -- Hillary Clinton! Why is he the nominee when he lacks every single talent and attribute that Hillary possesses?

In light of Obama's most recent use of the term "sweetie" when addressing a female reporter (and dodging a question), I am more convinced than ever that we are seeing the armour fall off this "wonderkid."  The fact that Ms. Agar was acting in her professional capacity and the fact that the Senator was obviously avoiding the question, just screams sexism! He may as well have said...."Now wait your turn, little lady."  Can you imagine if Ms. Agar started her question by saying...Honey, what do you plan to do for the auto workers?

I can't help but think that this type of attitude on the part of men, is why Hillary Clinton can't win.  For some reason, a totally unknown (Obama) went for almost a year without any type of scrutiny at all!  On the other hand, Hillary has been beat up constantly and even called a racist!  I guess the "powers that be" in Washington are still male dominated and just don't have room for a strong, intelligent, opinionated, outspoken, dare I say......Sweetie!
Yes, sexism was injected into the campaign by the media and by Obama himself (you're likeable enough Hillary). Certain reporters having to apologize for sexist remarks shows that is was,  Hillary "nut crackers", comparisons to Glenn Close in Fatal Attraction by Obama surrogates, remark after remark in the media about Hillary reminding men of their wives (like this was a bad thing), and the tilted media coverage overall that was SO pro-Obama anti-Clinton injected sexism and a shocking(to us women) anti-women vibe. She would be referred to deliberately as "the Clintons" (why? Because her husband stumps for her? Doesn't Michelle Obama stump for him and I've never heard that term. The media created another 2 for 1 narrative that was VERY sexist),  and one national reporter called her "nixonian". Meanwhile Obama used words like bamboozled and hoodwinked, quoting Malcolm X, in South Carolina, overtly playing the race card and it got ZERO play. Don't tell me the media doesn't shape elections and they craftily shaped the narrative of this one.
Ladies, Ladies get a grip...
Jen Riley says - Women will stay home in droves this fall. No way do we support Obama.

Please speak for yourself, not all women.  I proudly support Obama, and I am a 48 yr. old woman.  This was Hillary's race to lose.  She went into the primaries with every advantage.  I certainly admire her in many ways, but the longer this has went on, the more turned off I have become.  It seems she and her supporters feel a sense of entitlement to the nomination.  I have seen her supporters calling other women traitors for not supporting her.  One only has to go to sites like Hillaryis44.org or TM to see much vile being spewed against Obama, racial and otherwise.  I almost think he has more to be worried about from Hillary minions than he does from the Repukes as far as smears are concerned.  Simply pathetic, I'm sure Hillary would be real proud of you guys.  Go buy your pink tents...LOL

A 48 year old white American woman for Obama, 08
Thank God there are no Blue Collar White Women
voters...Obama would be losing....oh he isn't...
Lisa,

You need to know the history of NARAL better.  The problem with NARAL's endorsement of Obama is not because "so-called feminists" are saying that we have to choose the woman over any man, it's because of Hillary's unending support and fight for NARAL.  It was Sen. Clinton who held up the nomination of a FDA commissioner in order to force approval of Plan B and who spoke-out during the Supreme Court nomination about the importance of protecting Roe vs. Wade. Many people also believe that the timing of their endorsement is disrespecful and did not need to come at this time.  Ellen Malcolm of EMILY'S List said it best..."It certainly must be disconcerting for elected leaders who stand up for reproductive rights and expect the choice community will stand with them.”(when both are similar on the issues) is not my understanding of what feminism is.
"Sigh, can our fellow women really not understand that?"

They understand it, Lisa.  They're just pissed because their candidate, the inevitable one, did not get the nomination.

The specter of a possible 7 conservative member Supreme Court should dispel the idea that they can vote for McCain in protest without hurting women's causes, particularly but not limited to, the right to choose.

If they are truly feminists, they will get over their hurt feelings and get on board.  And, yes, I am a woman and a feminist.
Wake up!!! You are going to cut of your nose to spite your face because????????? It is a fact that Obama ran a better race, and he also ran a cleaner campaign, yet you are going to vote for McCain who will appoint judges who will really set womens rights back decades.
For the first time in over 35 years of marriage, my wife and I disagreed this year on our preferred candidate -- she Clinton and I Obama.

I could see firsthand my spouse's excitement at the prospect of a strong, smart female on the verge of achieving the most powerful position in the world -- followed by disappointment as that liklihood slipped away.  Both her excitement and her disappointment are very real and very valid, and I am sure her experience is shared by many women who have experienced the glass ceiling in their lives.

But, such disappointment should not morph into charges of sexism against Obama and his supporters.  The reality is that he ran a better campaign, and he is winning on the merits.

As Clinton's supporters move through the stages of grief, it is my hope that they quickly move past the denial and anger and transition quickly to acceptance.  This is an election of watershed proportions, a historic election of a black man, and that will be a victory for all who have experienced discrimination -- blacks, women, latinos, GLBT, and so on.

Come join us and celebrate with us.
Hillary lost fair and square...this has nothing to do with sexism...she was up by 20 points, she was beating Barack amongst blacks...I think both candidates have done an immense service for both women and African-Americans....one of them had to lose, it was close and it looks like Sen. Obama will pull it out...for Hillary backers to now come around and blame this on sexism is sad and if it was the other way around I'm sure some of us Obama backers would say it was racism, which would also be sad.  Reality is we all need to get together to DEFEAT Sen. McCain who is becoming more and more like Bush every day. Furthermore, ladies, he will take away your right to choose (the Supreme Court is only 1 justice away from that), he will not give you universal healthcare, he will not bring your sons and daughters back from Iraq.  He is no longer the Maverick he was in 2000.  We need to all coalesce and back the Democratic Nominee who wil more than likely be Obama.  Hillary will also be 100% behind him.  It is time for the supporters of both to come together.
Ladies...Most money in '07, broke in '08.

Poll leader in '07, second place in "08.

Plan "A" Super Tuesday Clintons prevail and
        don't.

        Plan "B"  NONE NONE NONE.

How could anyone blame sexisum for a campaign that was run as if the Clintons were owed the nomination?  Are women really proud of the way HRC ran her campaign? Yes, she's a fighter, but to have money, name and be the favorite and lose please explain.  Is it possible she lacks managerial skills?  The only sexisum I hear are women who vote for HRC just because she is a women.  Time to use your Plan "B" if you have one.

Joe in TN, Thank you for your candid and honest comment.  I don't think the Obama supporters have wherewithal to truly grasp the magnitude of their hatefulness and their behavior toward anyone who is not impressed with Obama despite their claims of having a superior level of intelligence compared to non-Obama supporters.  They have insulted and continue to insult anyone who is not supporting Obama and they actually believe that their insults are helping Obama's cause.  I believe between now and November they are going to actually get a true education, they will actually learn a very valuable life lesson. They talk about how they believe what Obama believes and that they represent change, well insulting everyone that doesn't think the way you do and believe what you believe, isn't representative of any kind of change.

Joe in TN, trust me when I tell you that there are many people in this country that feel exactly as you do and we will all start coming together and we will see Barack Obama defeated in November.

I’ve reposted your comment below

We will not soon forget that Obama has made derogatory statements about "white folks" in his books. We will not soon forget that his mentor and pastor for the last 20 years has hated "whitey" with a passion. We will not soon forget the racism that is winning him the nomination with the 90% black vote he is getting. We will not soon forget the hateful statements his wife has made. We will not soon forget the knife he stuck in the back of Hillary Clinton by blindsiding her after saying he would not seek the nomination. We will not soon forget his contempt for the white race whom “clings to guns and religion”, and his documented resentments in his books. We will not soon forget he does not cover his heart to the "Star Spangled Banner”. We will not soon forget his ties to the terrorist who attacked the Pentagon. We will not soon forget his friendship with Farrakhan. We will not soon forget all of the "present" votes on anything of "substance". We will not soon forget that Osama Bin Laden said he would destroy America from the inside. There are so many things we will not soon forget, that I don't have time to list them all. We will not give him the White House without a fight. We will stop Obamamentum. West Virginia was not just a fluke. We did not start the name-calling and racist banter he, the media, and his supporters did. His reverend did. His friends did. Only the peace loving, self-delusional people who still feel obligated to apologize, generation after generation for the actions of their forefathers will stand behind him. I'm not racist. I would never condone judging someone by the color of his or her skin. I judge people based on their actions and words. I don't apologize for the actions of my forefathers, I had nothing to do with it. If I could change the past I would, but I can’t. All I can do is treat everyone I meet with respect. Not because of their color, but because of they are a person, a soul just like me. Not until we can see past the color of skin and stop the hateful remarks can we unite. I will not unite behind the very people who are stereotyping me as a white American. I will not unite behind someone who obviously hates me, or at least judges me because of the color of my skin. I will not unite behind someone who is being hypocritical. I will not stand behind a farce of a campaign which gets away with racism and has the audacity of hope to call others racist and play the race card daily. I will not unite behind people who are a part of the problem and not a part of the solution. This is not an election for one race or the other to win. This race is about what is best for everyone in this country. If you want to unify this country quit criticizing it. What makes this country great is it's right to believe and say what we feel. Everyone doesn't have to think the same way. If someone wants to hate, it is his or her prerogative. If you take it too far then you will pay the price. If you choose to over look color you are on the right track. There a lot of  people I don't like because of what comes out of their mouths. Voting for a man is not going to heal the rift, if his statements and his campaign are divisive it is not going to stop racism. Sorry to say, but both sides have to mend this rift. It's not a problem; it's called freedom of speech. We are trying to dispel what makes this country great; it's called free will. I don't like or agree with a lot of things I hear. I choose not to judge others based on color. Vote for Obama if you want to, but quit labeling everyone who doesn't “racist”. That is playing the race card and widening the divide, because it makes a lot of people angry to be stereotyped. I know I am. It has nothing to with his color, I don’t support him because of what he and his friends and his mentors have been saying for years. The hateful sentiments he and his wife have said. Not one apology from Obama or his family about these statements. If they apologized now, I would see it as dishonesty. It is how they feel and they should say it. It's how they feel and I will vote the way I feel. If there is no Hillary to vote for in the general election, I will throw my support behind McCain. I will not only vote for him, but I will campaign and get the hateful messages from Obama and his past out there. It's my right. If you don't like it oh well, I guess that will make us even. Putting Obama in power will not heal the rift it will only put someone in power who has felt oppressed because of his blackness and ashamed of his whiteness. He has separated himself from a lot of voters including my wife, and myself, because he has never been able to get past the color of his own skin. True unity will come when the media quits mentioning the color of skin. The one person in this whole thing who hasn’t played the race or sex card is John McCain. When the candidates stop seeing themselves as a race or a sex, and just a human being, then that will be the real candidate for change. The mentioning of racism by the media about the exit polls only made things worse. Ignoring it will not solve the problem, but being a good example will. Stop the hate first, then start the unity. We are a generation or 2 from this. If you want change start raising children who don’t realize they are a color, but a person.

Joyce from Ny thank you for your heart felt  appeal dont worry , Hillary is very tuff. She will be fighting the good fight. Just understand all Hillary Clinton supporters it was not because Hillary is a woman that we did not want her. She came off as being a little untruthful in a lot of matters. She showed she was a fighter, but only after the major battle had been lost. But I think for those of you that are saying that you will stay home. That is like ci=onceding your rights as a woman to John McCain who is going to appoint conservative judges. That wont help you at all. John McCains straight express is running off the tracks and I think he likes it.
"If you want to blame anyone...blame Mark Penn...his strategy is what lost it for Hillary!"

Or lack thereof!
Please not that your piece began by associating Clinton's position with "Furor". High emotion. You also run part of a piece that says Clinton "scolded" McCain. Your very choice of words slant the perception of Clinton and her campaign. This has been a consistent trend in the media. You would have described similar actions by Obama as less emotional and more thoughtful. This is in despite of the fact that Clinton has several years more experience in the Senate and out performed everyone in the debates. You have also failed to run anything about the fact that Obama has on two separate occassions referred to women as "sweetie". While some think this is a cute term of endearment, it is notably patronizing and diminifies the receiver. It should be noted that Obama blew off the reporter's question about the Michigan auto industry, promised to answer later, and never did. Sexism is definitely part of our culture, in many subtle ways. Interesting that we appear ready to tackle racism but do not even acknowledge sexism in its many forms.
Isn't it better to back a winning horse than one that doesn't look like it will cross the finish line?  In order to advance the cause, you've got to ride a winner.  That doesn't seem like sexism to me, just good sense.
Women have the majority when it comes to registered voters.  So I guess maybe it is just Hillary herself. Hillary went in to this race with extremely high negatives.  I did not see any sexism displayed by Barack Obama.  I saw plenty from Hillary Clinton.  It is embarrasing to me that Hillary tried to play both sides of the fence.  The idea that you need a woman to further female causes is rediculous and yes sexist.
Hillary Clinton lost because she is not trusted and because she plays the game as low as you can go.

It has nothing to do with her gender.  I am a woman and I have always disdained her.

We will have a woman President someday and probably soon but it won't be HRC.
So if I understand correctly, some Clinton supporters now think that women are supporting Obama out of sexism? Um, okay, I'm confused.
I am sick of all this daily drumbeat of how Clinton must be treated with kid gloves and gently allowed to accept her loss on her terms.

When Bill Bradley, John Edwards, and Mike Huckabee were beaten by the math (well before all states had voted I might add) there was no talk of how they must leave on their own terms and that we had to be careful not to hurt their feelings.

It is ironic that a candidate whose supporters are now blaming sexism for her loss are now demanding that she be treated like a poor helpless woman and given all sorts of gentle treatment that was never extended to losing men.  THAT is sexism.
This was Hillary's campaign to lose and she did. I am a 66-year-old retired white school teacher who initially supported Edwards over Hillary. I switched to Obama after I saw how efficiently he ran his campaign following Super Tuesday. Finding out that the Clinton campaign had no strategy beyond that date was the kicker for me. I want someone in the white house who can manage a campaign, manage the money and bring millions of new people into the process. Hillary had every opportunity to win this thing and she came in second. Sexism? I think NOT.
Yeooooooowh!!  Cat fight.
NARAL has every right to endorse whomever they please just as every American has that same right! To say that no women will support/vote for Obama is to generalize the entire sex. To say that no female focused group should vote for Obama is what sets us ALL back decades. Can we not be more complex people than: women vote for Hillary and black Americans vote for Barack? Do we not have minds that allow us to make choices for reasons other than the color of our skin and our sex?  I am a 30 year old white woman from Kentucky. I make less than 40k a year and have been and will continue to be a supporter of Mr. Obama. This not a vote against Hillary and it is so frustrating that so many of my fellow women feel compelled to label my vote in this way. I used my educated mind to determine that Barack Omaba is the leader for me. He alone has inspired me this election cycle and for THAT reason, not because of my sex or race, that he has my full support.
Fan of Women Leaders, Just not this Woman. I agree with you wholeheartedly.  Actually Hillary has made it hard for the next woman to run with her lying, pandering, mood swings, whining and everything else they say negatively about women.  Some of you people act like you can earn the Presidency by doing favors.  This isn't a beauty contest.  You win the office by votes.  It doesn't matter what the Clintons have done.  She has not gotten the most votes in any area.  That's what's been wrong with our political system.  People get in office by who they know, what they've done and not by the people's choice.  Whether you like it or not Obama has won the most votes, and they are not all black votes.
Obama has won 32 of the 50 contests so far, including 5 of 12 primaries where blacks made up less than 10% of the voters. He also won in caucus states that are overwhelmingly white – places like Iowa, Idaho and Wyoming
These charges of sexism are blatantly opportunistic. Yes, the boys win this one, but only because Mrs. Clinton has exhibited traits that betray feminism's very foundations, whereas Mr. Obama has behaved honorably and respectfully at every turn.

These Clinton supporters cannot be true feminists---or if they are, they are precisely the kind of women who give feminism the terrible reputation it has in the American electorate. Rabid, fascist hatred that would lead a woman to "work actively against" Barack Obama or any other legitimate Democratic nominee is exactly what this country does not need.

My own decision to support Obama was not based on gender or race. My decision was based on Mr. Obama's ability to inspire and uplift our country after eight years of the worst administration in American history.

But I must also say that, Mrs. Clinton's work on behalf of women's rights aside, she is ABSOLUTELY NOT the kind of woman I want to see elected as the first woman President of the United States. Her behavior in this primary season has made a farce of the basic principles that underlie feminism as I know it. She is no role model for my daughter or my granddaughters. Enough said.

These Clinton supporters are a little nuts, willing to cut off their noses, as the saying goes. Lucky for the United States that there are plenty of women of sound judgement to counter-balance your idiotic foollishness.
On supporters (and the need to get this off my chest)...I find it interesting that I am seeing an increasing number of posters saying that they are not going to vote for Obama because of his supporters (I guess many of us are rude and nasty as a general rule.)

To this I say, why would you reject or support a candidate because of supporters?  This sounds like a straw man kind of argument to me.  I think you have to explore your real reason.

I can place a virulent anti-Obama posting here and pretend to be a Clinton supporter.  But I would never do that.  Clearly if you become a regular on any blog, then you know that trolls are everywhere.  Liars or false postings are everywhere.  I take it all with a grain of salt.  I support or don't support candidates because of their stance on issues, their leadership abilities, their campaigning, their managment skills, and for the strength of their characters.  Supporters on both sides often make me cringe but they don't inform my vote and I also don't see to silence their voice.  Even when inartful, they have a right to speak.

I have tried to limit my attacks to Clinton and her immediate surrogates (which include some family-members).  I have tried NOT to attack her supporters on the blogs.  In fact, I have seen hateful and inaccurate and hurt postings on both sides.  Largely I have ignored them...at times I have gingerly spoken up at them.

It is incredibly disengenuous to pretend that only Obama or only Clinton supporters have been emotional, hateful, or over vigorous in support for their candidate.

But choose to vote as you will, you have that right...just realize the issues are larger than perhaps poser supporters.

Off my soapbox
Fact - NARAL vets candidates on their support of NARAL's issues.

Fact - Obama has a perfect rating with NARAL, as does Clinton

Fact - NARAL needs to choose the candidate most likely to further their cause.

Fact - Obama is most likely to win the nomination.

Fact - Supporting Clinton, the inevitable loser, would not further their cause.

Fact - Many other Pro-Choice groups are angry because they see two candidates who vote the same, but think the one with female genitalia is by default a better choice.

Fact - that's what we call "sexism" folks.  It's a two-way street.
Hillary Clinton had plenty of press as the inevitable nominee even before the race started...
Where were you then?
This whole sexism thing is ridiculous in its face...We have a women and an african american in this race and there have been comments made about both. But the point is CLinton was much ahead in the polls for a long time..  then she lost the momentum when she did not close the deal on Feb 5.
After that Obama won 11 in a row!!! Even then Clinton was very much being counted in the race..
Once could argue that if the tables were turned.. then Obama would have been forced out of this race long back after Clinton wins 11 in a row.
Even now after he has the pledged delegate lead which is nearly insurmountable.. they are saying Clinton is still in it!!!!
DO you really think they would say that about Obama if it was the other way round?
So give me a break.....i lean liberal and believe in women's rights...
but the hate and vindictiveness of the so called women supporters of Clinton is something else.
I immediately discount anyone's comment that begins with or contains the phrase "Hillary lost".  That has not been determined and most likely won't be until Denver.  It gives me great hope that the possibility of a Democrat in the WH in 2008 is still alive and well.  In fact, I saw her smiling on TV just a few minutes ago.
