Obama: Patti's got a crush on Obama?

The Boston Globe’s Canellos: “Obama may still be proposing policies that strike conservatives as weak and foolish. But after his aggressive response to President Bush's apparent criticisms of his foreign policies last week, it's clear that he's doing so in a forceful and politically savvy way.”

More: “Obama is trying to argue for a kind of muscular liberalism - that by being more open to the world, and more credible as a negotiating partner, the United States can achieve greater safety and security. It's an inherently tough argument to sell. Voters draw comfort from the idea that military strength can guarantee safety; they can't be too eager to have Obama disabuse them of the notion. But in arguing his case for quiet diplomacy, Obama seems to be having his best success when he makes it loudly and strongly.”

Patti Solis Doyle “has had ‘informal’ talks with Sen. Barack Obama's chief strategist, David Axelrod, about joining the campaign for the general election. ‘Patti is someone who I've known for 20 years,’ Axelrod told The Post, noting their connections go back to the Chicago political scene in which they began. He said he thinks ‘highly of her, she's from here, we know her well. She's got a lot of great attributes. She's a great friend of mine and I've talked to her throughout the campaign,’ he added. ‘All she's said is, 'If he's the nominee I'd be happy to [help]' ... it's not like there's been offers proffered or positions created. It's not even close.’ Axelrod told The Post the ‘whole thing is overblown.’

“Contacted by The Post, Solis Doyle, who started out as Clinton's scheduler two decades ago, said she's firmly supporting her. ‘I'm with Hillary and have been for 17 years,’ she said. She added that she ‘would do whatever I can to get whoever the nominee is elected...I believe Hillary Clinton has said that herself.’”

“Democrat Barack Obama was stumped this weekend when a woman asked him about cleanup at the nation's most contaminated nuclear area: the Hanford site in Washington state where scientists helped create the atomic bomb,” the AP writes. “Obama admitted that he didn't know much about the problem, but promised he would learn about it… A spokesman for the Republican National Committee called Obama's answer proof that the Illinois senator has little understanding of issues that are important to families in Oregon and Washington. During a visit to Washington state last week, Republican John McCain said he would speed cleanup efforts at Hanford and push for technological advances in disposing of nuclear waste.”

Despite Obama's answer to the voter, a campaign spokesman said Monday that Obama is committed to cleaning up Hanford and other contaminated nuclear sites.

There are a lot of guys around here that have a man-crush on Obama.
Obama would make a great GQ model. President though? Not so much. Like most models, he doesn't have a clue.
Welcome aboard!
Nobody knows about each and every local issue.  I'd rather have someone say that don't know about it but promise to find out about it as opposed to lying and trying to fake it.  Yet more reason, Obama's not a typical pol (and for McCain, at least Obama knows the difference between the Shia and Sunni sects and what countries they're dominant in, duh!!).

In terms of foreign policy, if the US wants to continue to act like a big horrid bully on the world stage and continues to act unilaterally without support from other like-minded nations in the world, then that makes me feel unsafe.  As an educated and informed voter, I really don't have an issue in talking to people and using that as a starting point.

Diplomacy YES, bullying NO, military force, ONLY WHEN ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY.
You can spin the Obama response to that question any way you want, but I'll tell you how people see it: honest.

When Jesse Ventura was running for governor in Minnesota, my Minnesotan uncle once told me, he was asked a question in a debate, to which he answered that he honestly didn't know enough about the subject to give a real answer. My uncle said that was why he voted for Ventura -- he didn't know, and he said so. Moreover, he wasn't AFRAID to say so.

Being President, I think, is likewise. If you don't know the answer, don't give us some phony B.S.; just tell us you don't know. The RNC can try to play that it's inexperience, but it's not that simple, and their response tells you just how out-of-touch the RNC is with average people.
2 words "Latino Vote".

That's what they need her for.

And let's be honest. Clinton thru her under the bus when Penn's "incumbent" strategy didn't work. She'll have a lot to prove this time around, so she'll be a real asset.
It's so funny that McCain claims to follow Reagan's policies.

Apparently, McCain forgot that Reagan negotiated with Iran to free Americans.  Reagan negotiated with Russia.

The British refused to negotiate. Instead, they used for to impose their will on other countries.  A revolution followed.  From that revolution was born a country.  That country is the United States of America.
Considering what a poor job Patti Solis Doyle did for "Bag Lady" Clinton I hope the Obama campaign is smart enough to not give her any kind of meaningful position.  She was a failure as the Bag Lady's campaign manager and we don't need failures like her messing up the winning Obama campaign.

Go Obama 08/12!
There is someone who's gone into each region of this country well-informed, with significant things to say on local issues, and that is Hillary Clinton. It mirrors the work she did in New York to earn the respect and devotion of voters all over the state. For this commitment to educating herself and listening to constituents, the media has dismissed her as a wonk.
Tara Adler:

Calling Hillary Clinton a "wonk" is not a slam on her. In fact, as far as I'm concerned, it's her best asset. She is very detail-oriented, very small-picture -- exactly the kind of person you'd want leading Senate Democrats. Obama is equally detail-oriented, but he's more big-picture. Again, that's not to say what Hillary does she does poorly; to me, it's just what puts Obama over the top.

And Clinton supporters really need to get off this inferiority thing. Just because I support Obama does not mean that I hate Hillary, nor that I'm a sexist, nor any of the other charges I've seen levied against Obama supporters. We aren't the ones who hate Hillary -- those are the Republicans!
Senator Obama will need alot of help.  He has all Senator Clinton and President Clinton's workers.  They were all trained by them.  So much for "change".
I work in an environment where I'd MUCH rather hear someone say "I don't know" than try to BS me with some off-the-cuff answer.

I have much more respect for the person who says "I don't know but I'll find out". I know I can trust this person.
Makes sense ... she did such a great job for Hillary??
Wow.  I'd rather have someone step back and say I will learn about it before speaking about it.  Rather than the dogmatic approach we've endured.  It's really interesting how HRC is echoing NOW, and Republicans
both try to be on all sides.  We're "change", but they really say "we're not really going to change".  I do believe race is an issue in rustbelt, but more so, half these people don't watch MSNBC all day, they go to the voting booth and they see Clinton.  Even if they do pay attention, I would like to see the poll of how many people vote for HRC because they liked Bill and they those days back.  My wager is that's influencing a lot of OH, PA, IN, KY, WV etc.  McCain on other hand clearly is holding dogma on Iran and war.  These guys need to think.

BTW, isn't the article title sexist?
the clintons seem intent on winning or obama losing, she knows she is ripping a hole that can not be patched, it's got to be hard for obama to sit back and let her spin the 'can't win the uneducated white vote' and can't win the 'woman's vote' arguments, being called an elitist by a multi millionaire former presidental couple, you don't see Obama out there saying that black people will never vote for them.

I'm disgusted by politics of the Clinton's, i know everyone is playing politics here, so it is what it is, but they are just so willing to leverage every divisive angle to hurt their opponent rather than win on the merits of the ideas.  I guess that is simply because the majority of Americans, especially the ones voting for her now, don't even listen to ideas, they just see the faces, hear the names and push a button.

Obama 08!!
Isn't she the chick that sat in her office watching Soap Operas all day while Clinton went down in Iowa???
What ideas does Obama have, pleeeeeease tell me.  Change?  What kine of change, when how.  He can't even untite the democratic party for god's sake, how's he gonna win republicans.  It will be even more bipartisan than before.
I want a President, not an American Idol winner!
Well looky here. There are crushes and then there is being in love. There is being attracted to luminosity and skill, generosity and friendliness, kindly genius. One blogger early on suggested it wasn't love but infatuation. Okay, I thought, you may be right. Infatuation is such a sweet self-indulgence. But a jillion stump speeches later and one sunny day in Portland, Oregon and I'm back to say it's more than infatuation, more than a crush, but it is response to a form of greatness we haven't seen for a long, long time. I can see from my Google Election News media sort that the headline writers are exhausted and just throwing up anything cute they haven't already said. It's a wonder the candidates themselves can still campaign. Does anybody get a vacation? Certainly the headline writers are showing the campaign fatigue. Steamed sisters, somebody with a crush. Better go get a massage.
Patti Solis Doyle???  You're kidding, right?  The woman who took gifts from Norman Hsu?  Who helped waste donors' money in Hillary's Senate camapaign and put her in debt in this one?

I hope Axelrod is just being polite.  Joining forces selectively with the Clinton folks is one thing.  But I suggest Axelrod take on the idealists and true believers, and let the Clintons worry about all the opportunists in their camp.  Next we'll hear that Joe Wilson wants to advise Obama on foreign policy and Lanny Davis wants to help him win the anti-war vote.
McFlop has not a clue on cleaning up anything, it is not enough to say you will clean it up.  Once you clean it up, what will McFlop do with it?  He doesn't know...whatever!

Patti is tied to the Clinton's and it is her loyalty to Clinton that keeps her there.  However, Patti will be better off with the Obama camp, at least they  know how to treat their personnel.

I disagree that she will only be used for the hispanic vote, that's crap!  Patti is intelligent, but she was caught up in the Penn stink in the Clinton camp.  She was loyal to Clinton, but I don't think it was given back to her.  Even after Patti resigned {so they say} Clinton is still losing.

I bet this election year has ended many political frienships, which is unfortunate!
"Obama is trying to argue for a kind of muscular liberalism - that by being more open to the world, and more credible as a negotiating partner, the United States can achieve greater safety and security."
Muscular? From somebocy trying to run away from Iraq? We're already there, into the fight for the last 5 years, but Mr. Muscular wants to run home.... so that we'll look stronger???
Does anyone else see the complete lunacy of this type of argument? Obama is a wuss and will let worldwide atrocities occur with little more than a speech.
He is NOT getting my vote. No matter how tough his campaign tries to make him look.
This whole attack on Pres. Bush's speech is a made-up issue by Obama and anyone who knows anything about international relations knows this. There are many countries that try to encourage the US to talk to Iran: Russia, Afghanistan, Turkey, the minor Soviet satellites, a whole bunch of Asian and African countries. They squawk about it through their envoys, the UN, and in their national speeches.

To my point...
http://www.southafrica-newyork.net/pmun/view_speech.php?speech=2483657
"[verification work by the IAEA] will help to establish the facts and encourage negotiations among concerned parties with a view to reducing tension and further escalation." The US being one of the concerned parties that South Africa is refering to as this speech was given before the Security Council back in March '08.

I could find numerous examples of this kind of urging to talk to that despicable regime.
Democrats say they have a right to be mad at us. I agree. They don't have a right to threaten our us or our friends while they work on developing a bigger stick.
McCain '08
Uh Oh, You can't use those terms "has a crush on OBama", you'll be called out by Hillary and Ferraro as sexist.
As the former Deputy Assistant Secretary for the Department of Energy and Oversight of Environment, Safety, and Health under the Clinton and Bush admin istrations and Bill Richardson, I am very familiar with the environmental contamination and cleanup efforts at Hanford. Coming out of the cold war, there are serious environmental and cleanup issues at a n umber of nuclear sites across the US.
THe key, however, to effective leadership and a quality that we have lacked for the last 8 years is surrounding yourself with capable expertise, listening to their valuable input, and then making sound judgements and decisions. It is not trying to completely understand and be an expert in every issue as some seem to expect, or firing everyone who disagrees with you such as experienced Generals on Iraq.
I believe Obama has the sound judgement to lead, to surround himself with the right advisors, and to make sound judgements and decisions. As a lifelong Republican, I offer the next President of these United States my vote, experience, and support!
I have a man crush on Obama too, I dont know what it is.

Who cares what a fired HRC staffer does.  Its Obama's sleazy way to try and send a message to HRC supporters.  Well, we don't care. This is not over yet. Let's see what happens tonight.

Hillary 08!
I doubt seriously that Patti will be used to solicit the Hispanic vote, I doubt it would make a difference.  I live in a predominately Mexican/Hispanic city in Texas and they do not like African Americans, period.  I do not see Obama winning this vote.  If she wants to help, I say bring her over.  The object is to get Obama elected.
Michelle don't find any humor to this crap. Patti don't deserve to be on the Obama's Team and should he hire her I will no longer send any of my money to this campaign.
I lived in Oregon for a few years, visit often, but have never heard of any specific nuclear waste issues in that state.

*yawn* *shrug*

Repubs = grasping at straws
