Obama vs. McCain: The lobbyist war

Posted: Tuesday, May 20, 2008 9:14 AM by Mark Murray

It's so clear the McCain campaign -- or maybe it's even McCain himself -- hates the idea of ceding the reform issue to Obama, hence the strict lobbyist ban. But has McCain painted himself in a corner? Will Charlie Black and Rick Davis, in particular, find themselves constantly having to be on the defensive because of this?  Again, this is self-inflicted, yet noble.

The New York Times notes McCain is finding a "thorny path" on this issue. "McCain’s political identity has long been defined by his calls for reducing the influence of special interests in Washington. But as he heads toward the general election as the presumptive Republican presidential nominee, he has increasingly confronted criticism that his campaign staff is stocked with people who have made their living as lobbyists or in similar jobs, leaving his credentials as a reformer open to attack. The process of trying to purge the campaign of conflicts that in appearance or reality might violate Mr. McCain’s stated principles or cause him political trouble has so far focused only more attention on the backgrounds of his aides and advisers.”

“The delicate task of writing and enforcing the new conflict-of-interest policy has fallen to Mr. McCain’s campaign manager, Rick Davis, who was himself a lobbyist until he took a leave of absence from his firm, Davis Manafort, two years ago."

The paper also notes a slew of potential senior staffers who may have conflicts. "Wayne Berman, the campaign’s deputy finance chairman, has lobbied for the governments of Cyprus and Trinidad and Tobago, along with many other corporate clients. Christian Ferry, who is a lobbyist for Mr. Davis’s firm, is Mr. McCain’s deputy campaign manager. Susan Nelson, the finance director of the campaign, was as recently as last year a registered lobbyist for the Loeffler Group, for companies, including AT&T that have had business before Mr. McCain on the Commerce Committee. John Green, who has been reported to be coordinating the campaign’s efforts with congressional Republicans, is registered as a lobbyist for Ogilvy Government Relations, Mr. Berman’s firm. Carlos Bonilla, described by the McCain Web site as an economic adviser, is also a registered lobbyist."

Obama jumped on the lobbyist issue yesterday. "During a speech at a high school here, Obama said voters should be concerned that ‘after nearly three decades in Washington, John McCain can't see or won't acknowledge what's obvious to all of us here today -- that lobbyists aren't just part of the system in Washington, they're part of the problem.’”

“McCain's campaign shot back quickly, challenging Obama to "shed light on the long list of federal lobbyists advising him on policy issues’ and accusing him of diverting attention from more serious matters. ‘Every moment that Senator Obama spends attacking individual volunteers on our campaign is time he's not using to address issues of real importance in the lives of Americans,’ said McCain spokesman Tucker Bounds."

And as we predicted yesterday, the blind quotes are telling. Check this out: "Some of McCain's advisers said Monday they are mystified by the new policy, which they said gives Obama an opening to attack their candidate. ‘The most interesting thing in every campaign is the self-inflicted wound. This is a great case,’ said one GOP fundraiser, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss McCain's campaign decisions candidly. ‘When asked to name the 10,000 things people think are the most important issue, this doesn't make the list.’”

“Another adviser said: ‘There's scratching of heads. What is going on? Why are we doing this?’”

The Boston Globe: “While Democrats have fueled the turmoil, it's partly of McCain's making. He has tried to straddle two worlds, being both a four-term senator known as a fighter of special interests and a candidate whose campaign has employed people with long records of lobbying.”

This is the GOP's stratagem...make Obama seem like McShame...talking war all the time...won't look any different than McShame....and they'll call him on it....to even see if if he's too weak...Obama don't play that game...keep showing that you love the American values of family and work ethics...
Expose McShame for his lack of agility on most economic and domestic issues...
Taxes for the rich, burden of the poor and opportunities that McBush have not delivered...
MCCAIN SPEAK:HOW DARE YOU QUESTION ME ABOUT MY ACTIONS AND MOTIVES ON ANYTHING!AFTER ALL I AM A P.O.W.
Talk about religous issues what about the GOP ties to the Moonies???? The fact that one of John McBush's lobbyist campaign workers held a giant gathering for the leader of the cult??
Jesus jumped-up Christ.

Explain to me how it is that John's McCain has top staff who are paid agents for foreign nations (which is what people who are lobbyists for foreign nations are) and this is no problem for his campaign. Neither he, nor his staffers have to really answer for this. In your misty-dewed eyes, it's sad he's been betrayed by all these people but still somehow noble--'cause goshdarnit, we know John McCain is such a great guy he wouldn't ever succumb to that kind of cronyism.

Meanwhile, Barack Obama has to convince people he's an actual Christian, with real love for his country, all to fight off a right-wing whisper campaign agsint him. He even gets to have his 'bloodlines' questions in the pages of major newspapers. He has to repudiate the views of his former pastor as though they were his own, and prove to America that Jeremiah Wright isn't really pulling his strings. That's an evenly applied standard for ya.

Maybe, just maybe, John McCain's 'crusading, maverick' persona is something he created that means nothing in terms of his real accomplishments and serves only to further his political goals. Perhaps he's really just a right-wing hack the same as the rest of the Republican party.

I'm just saying it's a remote possibility that you should perhaps check into. If you were inclined to you know, do journamlism.
McCain's campaign is infested with lobbyists in key positions. Here is a list of 115 lobbyists that McCain employs in key positions in his campaign:

The next website is the most comprehensive source on the bad policies, corruption, and flip flops of McCain:

McCain is one of the most corrupt politicians to come along in decades. He would be a continuation of the failed economic, domestic, and foreign policy initiatives of Bush/Cheney. They have made Iran stronger, Al Qaeda stronger, the economy weaker, the dollar weaker, oil prices higher, gas prices higher, American military casualties higher and America less secure. The neocon movement with Bush/Cheney/McCain has been a disaster for this country and stability of the world.
Now McCain wants us to sell the presidency to his cadre of lobbyists, PAC's and various influence peddlers. No thank you. Not this time.
This is interesting.  McClain is known for making it difficult for lobbyist in Washington, yet his entire campaign staff is made up of lobbyist or people in a similar role.

So, What does this really say about his agenda!  Is he just employing tactics that will help him win the presidency or has he been fighting against lobbyist his entire political campaign as a stunt!

We think he is using whatever tactics and influences that will help him WIN!

Politicians!    McClain is selling us a dream!!

Mcconfused is so out of it!Which world is he living in?Does he think the American people are so stupid that he can run his campaign with all these lobbyists and get away with it?
What in the world did McCain expect when he surrounded himself with lobbyist? This will just be the beginning of the "thorny paths" he will find himself on. He has flip-flopped on so many issues that it will be difficult for him to convince anyone on where he really stands on issues. And, as I've said many times before, he is NO match for Obama in a debate. He can't get through an interview without cue cards and a telepromter. I still can't believe THIS is the best the GOP had to offer this year. But, then again, when the sitting GOP president has an approval rating of 27% I guess not matter WHO they put up, you can expect them to lose. Want more of the same? Vote McCain.
Mccain is a self righteous phony. After decades in Washington, he is part of the problem, and offers no solutions to problems facing Americans. Bush's lapdog.
Don't worry Senator McCain, just like Senator Clinton said - lobbyists are people too! First you take their money and then you take all their powers away when you're elected, right? Right? Why wouldn't anybody believe that?

lol
OBAMA VS. MCCAIN: THE LOBBYIST WAR

gees, that ain't going to be much of a war, the only politician that likes lobbyists more than mccain is hillary, as hillary said “lobbyists are good people too".
More McWalkingCane hypocrasy just NOW trying to clean house of the rodents.

Pathetic.

I'm sure "Patty, s/d" won't mind if McWalkingCane will have tons of lobbyists in his administration; as long as Obama, the black guy, isn't President.
Five scummy lobbyists down and only another 50+ to go for "Lobbyist Lover" McCain to get the trash out of his campaign.  He has always surrounded himself with lobbyists and this new shedding of the more problematic ones is just indicative of how much he is a tool for lobbyists to use against the vast majority of Americans.

As long as Charlie Black remains though he will always be tainted by a lobbyist with connections to dictators and terrorists.  "Traitor" McCain and the repugnant ones of his party are the ones sleeping with the enemy.

Go Obama 08/12!
The more I learn about the good Senator, the more questions I have. I pray this is not going to be another one of those “I voted for before I voted against” moments.
Yesterday, Obama Said That Iran Did Not Pose A Serious Threat To The U.S.:
Obama: "I mean think about it. Iran, Cuba, Venezuela - these countries are tiny compared to the Soviet Union. They don't pose a serious threat to us the way the Soviet Union posed a threat to us. And yet we were willing to talk to the Soviet Union at the time when they were saying we're going to wipe you off the planet. And ultimately that direct engagement led to a series of measures that helped prevent nuclear war, and over time allowed the kind of opening that brought down the Berlin Wall. Now, that has to be the kind of approach that we take." (Sen. Barack Obama, Remarks At A Campaign Event, Pendelton, OR, 5/18/08)
FLASHBACK: Even Obama Previously Said That Iran Posed A Significant Threat To U.S. Security:
On CBS Evening News, Obama Listed Iran As The Country That Frightened Him Most And Said It Posed "A Significant Threat." CBS' Katie Couric: "What country frightens you the most, and what would you do about it as president?" Obama: "I think Iran poses a significant threat to stability in the Middle East. So I think we have to talk to Iran directly. And when we talk to Iran directly, even if there are profound disagreements there, that will send a signal to the world that we are not simply seeking to impose our will without paying attention to what other countries think. And that kind of dialogue has not taken place. This president has refused to do it. I think it's a profound mistake. JFK once said we should never negotiate out of fear, but we should never fear to negotiate." (CBS' "Evening News," 12/12/07)
Obama: "Iran's nuclear ambitions pose a serious threat to the United States, to our ally Israel and to international security." (Obama For America, "Statement Of Senator Barack Obama On Additional Sanctions On Iran," Press Release, 3/4/08)
Obama: "Everybody would acknowledge that Iran is stronger now than it was before this war started and that they have always been a significant threat -- in fact, a much more significant threat than Saddam Hussein was. They actually are developing weapons of mass destruction." (MSNBC's "Reaction To The State Of The Union Address," 1/23/07)
Live by the sword, die by the sword.

I agree with the previous posters, self-righteous (and a lot of it is his tone) is something I think of when I think of McCain (in a free-association kind of way).

I support less power to lobbyist and more power to the people :) but does he have to sound so sanctimonious about it.

I don't think we really know how this is all going to play out yet (with either candidate) but it should prove interesting to watch.
This is such a mine field.  I think both candidates may end up regretting heading down this path.
Again, I think this goes back to overall strategy.  Obama simply has a team that is better than everyone else.  And I place a lot of emphasis on the word "team", because that is how it works with Obama.

McCain had about 3 months of free time that he could have used to push these people out.  Do it in the middle of the Pennsylvania madness.  That is how a good strategy would be executed.  Don't do something that will obviously benefit the opponent just when your opponent has the time to bring it on.

I expect we'll be seeing more of this kind of thing over the next couple of months.  Basic strategic flaws that will eventually cripple the McCain campaign.  He'll be forced to go way negative in the end just like Hillary had to.
Isn't McSame coming a little late to the party with this?  KO talked with Rachel Maddow this last night on "Countdown" - why didn't he do this a long time ago?  He's been the GOP nominee for a while, and knew he had a strong chance to be the nominee before that...C'mon...
Hey, Fred s, Iran is peanuts compared to past hostile countries.

I was a college student during the Cuban missile crisis and vividly recall discussing with classmates which buildings on campus were safest in case of a nuclear attack. Of course we knew than NO building could be a safe haven. That was indeed a scary time. The most Iran can do now is to attack American military sites in the Middle East. In the unlikely event Iran gets a nuclear weapon, they can inflict some damage on this country at the expense of getting their nation totally destroyed, flattened and radioactive for centuries.

As far as Iran attacking Israel with nuclear or conventional weapons, that's a laugh. Israel has 200 nuclear weapons, in submarines, ready to retaliate against any nation in that part of the world.

Iran is a problem. However, Iran is no threat to the integrity of the USA. We will survive as a country no matter what Iran does (and Iran will not survive).
The repubs new battle cry is that no one cares about all the lobbist working for the straight talk mcsame, that all the tough talk is just that, talk. The same old Bush mcsame tactics of trying to act like they are on the side of us,trying to fool us,scare us.While there campaign staff has ties to heave hitters in the mid-east,so is the new slogan "The republican party brought to you by the following sponsers Saudi Arabia,Myanmars military junta.Cyprus,Trinidad,Tobago, and the good folks at AT&T(Susan Nelson McCains finance director lobbyed McCains Commerce Committee that he is the chairman while she worked for the Loeffler Group, Loeffler resigned yesterday) Sounds like the Mcsame old boy system that has taken over Washinton
The GOP is on their last, maimed leg. After 8 years of Dumya Bush all they could pull together is an old man who really looks like the dead walking. This is going to be sooooo sweet to see the GOP reaping the seeds they have sewn. Karma is looking them in the face and about to kick butt! Katrina, Iraq and WMD's will go down as the GOP's worst moments ever. They will finally get what they deserve for treating the American poeple the way they have.
Re: McCain's "noble but self-inflicted wound...":I'm perfectly willing to believe that McCain has more integrity than your average politician, despite the too-clever-by-half gaming of the public financing (in or out depending on convenience), use of Cindy's planes, non-disclosure of her tax returns, where the real action is, and so on.  But the outsider-maverick schtick is, as we have now learned to say, his "brand" and in the end it just doesn't hold up: the guy is a connected insider willing to wheel and deal, trade favors and help out his friends, contributors, etc. as anyone, and that record is as clear as it can be. The fact that his campaign is being run by people whose job it is to get those favors distributed to their clients is just the icing on the cake, a symbol of what he's REALLY about that's readily accessible to people--think John Kerry and windsurfing. So all this talk about his "noble" decision isn't just whitewash (tho it's clearly hogwash), it misses the point (as McCain himself clearly doesn't): he's vulnerable on what seems to be his strongest ground, and Barack is clearly spoiling to go after him there.  The problem is--he is who he is, an insider to the power game,  and no amount of yammering about his "self-inflicted but noble" wounds will obscure that...at least that's my hope, that moments like this will burst the media bubble and force us to reckon with the real McCain, not some press fantasy about him.  Just for the record, I voted for the guy in the Michigan primary in 2000...and have a certain admiration for him; as I said as far as politicians go, he's doubtless cleaner than most (tho not, it should be noted, than Barack, Rezko and all). But noble?  C'mon.
From almost every angle, McBush has shown he is not authentic. This campaign is going to eat the old man alive as he tries to staunch the flow of truth into his leaky old boat of lies and half truths.
Sen McCain talks a good talk about supporting the US Soldiers, But has decided not support the New GI Bill, because it would give the soldiers an incentive to leave the all volunteer military. I have a problem that Sen McCain says that the soldiers are good enough to go to Iraq and sacrifice life and limb, but are not worthy of benefits that they defenitely need & deserve. McCain is no Hero, just a hypöcrit!!

All aboard the flip flop express!
abt Iran people forget Iran had the first democratic revolution, there are Iranian fighting against the govt and you have either support them or let them win by themselves and thats how real democracy would come not by declaring a war against them. "Democracy by the people and for the people"

Real issue is being ignored and solutions provided are superficial, you need understand the issue before you solve it. So you need to talk to Iran not just the president but the people in there to know what the real cause of issue is .
Fred s....
It seems you do NOT understand comparison. Obama was simply comparing the threat posed by Iran to the threat once posed by USSR. There is no way you can say that Iran possess the fire power once possessed by USSR. However, that does not mean Iran does not possess any threat towards the US.
English 101
The Honorable Senator McCain. An old adage - the difference between a politian and a Statesman. A politian cares about the next election, a Statesmen care about the next generation.
Fred...

Obama was using the adjective "tiny" in referencing their threat to America compared to Russia during and prior to the cold war because they don't have the nukes Russia did.

McCain and Bush say we shouldn't talk, while trying to stress how dangerous Iran is.  Obama countered by saying, by their very definition, they are today's Russia, minus the nukes... then shouldn't we be in discussions like JFK was with Russia?

He has always said that Iran was a threat to our security interests, that's why he's willing to talk to Iran.  It's as simple as that!

Don't listen to McNormanBates, he's liable to hit you in the back of your head with a shovel.
Hey Fred S,

Obama said the same thing in both quotes you used. He said that direct talks with Iran was necessary....He also said they were tiny compared with the soviet union which was a problem in past times and we talked directly with them.

When asked which country worries him the most RIGHT NOW he said Iran. He did not contridict himself at all if you re-read what you posted.
For the record, a paid staffer is entirely different from a non-salaried advisor.  Anyone can give advice, but if they are not on the payroll, Obama owes them nothing.  In addition, McCain a la Keating is the one holding everyone up to his "high" moral standards, so he more than anyone should be subject to scrutiny.  Unlike the Bittergate and Rev. Wright foolishness, this actually goes directly to the heart of why nothing gets done in Washington.

Oh yeah, and don't even think about using your POW status to deflect like you're trying to do now.  My uncle was a POW, and he goes when the wagon comes, too.
the lobbyist issue would be in the top 10000 issues if the american people were privy to it.  by nature of not being news worthy at the time is teh only reason that people don't know about it.  if they did i am sure they would feel differently.  the truth is, is that lobbyists, especially those who become policy advisors during the presidency have extreme infulence on actual government policy that affects all americans.  it is vital that this issue is addresed.
The bottom line is that the time of the GOP, like the dinosaur, is coming to an end. I think the poor and middle class of this country are tired of lobbyist, corporate corruption the privatization of basic needs like MEDICINE!  It's time to clean house and make this country great again!  If you vote for McCain it'll be a goshdarn shame!
Fred,

Thanks for all those quotes from Obama, it goes to show his consistency.

It appears that you are trying to show Obama as changing his stance on Iran, but he hasn't.  Read this portion of the quote again...

"They don't pose a serious threat to us the way the Soviet Union posed a threat to us."  --Sen. Barack Obama, Remarks At A Campaign Event, Pendelton, OR, 5/18/08

There's nothing contradictory in his speech from 5/18.  He is not back-tracking on his view that Iran is a serious threat.  He's merely pointing out that they are not nearly as a serious threat as the Soviet Union was during the Cold War, yet we reached out to them through diplomacy and negotiation.  So why not Iran?

Now as far as McCain goes, this guy has been flip-flopping on way too many issues.  This guy is a walking definition of The Chaos Theory.  A butterfly flaps its wings in the Middle East and McBush does a 180.

McCain just gave a speech last week talking about "special interests" and stating they have no business in politics.  So either he doesn't recognize when he's "flip flopping" (look at all the times he doesn't remember saying something when someone reads it back to him), knows he's flip-flopping because he's pandering to whomever he's talking to at the time or worse, he just flat out doesn't care what we think (which we had 8-years of under the Cheney/Rumsfeld Presidency).

Let McCain be a war hero and be a fixture in the Senate, it can use some excitement from time-to-time with his tirades.  He's way past his prime and the thought of him sitting behind the desk in the Oval Office scares the living-daylights out of me.
I got side-tracked on my first response that I forgot a point that I wanted to make...

I love Tucker Bounds response to Obama's speech, by answering a question with a question.  He didn't offer any answer to the issue of Lobbyists in McBush's campaign, he instead tried deflecting the attention back on Obama.  It's typical of Repub's to avoid an issue or question through deflection.

Answer the question Tucker!  I'm not falling for the banana in the tailpipe.
I don't care how he likes to paint himself, he's a REPUBLICAN, for God's sake!  Of COURSE he's in the pocket of the big lobbying firms.  Half of K St. is on his "Straight Talk Express" with him. And he's getting bogged down in all this mess, can't move forward in his campaign, and still keeps beating the dead horse of "Obama wants to talk to the bad guys, he's naive and inexperienced!" He's been on this for two weeks now, not making a peep about the economy his buddy Bush has flushed down the toilet.  His campaign is already self-destructing with all the bad press about the lobbyist ties and his continued harping on one narrow theme.  you don't win elections this way, Joh Dubya!
If you vote for McCain, you need your head examined.  A man that wants us to stay on course not only internationally, but domestically as well... you've got to wonder what people are thinking... especially people that are barely getting by.

Most of the states in the south aren't "wealthy" by any means, this GOP nominee isn't exactly drawing the religious right, so what gives with the support this clown is receiving?

I really find it hard to believe that this sitting prez is at 27% approval rating and here comes along a guy who makes no bones about it in saying....

he's willing to stay the course and give you more of the same and people are willing to say.... "OK"?

We are some DUMB people if McPOW ends up in the Whitehouse.
The lobbyists saw that the end was near in DC, then they joined the flagging McCain campaign in droves
(54). The lobbyists are not a problem in DC, they are DC. This has to change or OUR government is dead...
Man, I didn't realize I was jumping into a McCain attack frenzy when I decided to leave a comment.  McShame? Wow, that's so creative, you found an irrelevant word that almost rhymes with Cain, genius. I take it you McShame folks will be voting for Bigcrock Snobama in the fall.  If you hate lobbyists so much, you might be upset to know that you will be supporting them this fall no matter who you vote for (unless you stay home).  Numerous media outlets have reported that Snobama employs lobbyists in his campaign.  His defense is that he will not employ or work with "federal" lobbyists or PACs, but working with "state" lobbyists is acceptable, as he currently does within his campaign.  Allowing lobbyists at the state level is no different in my opinion, as many would be working for a corporation's interests on a state level, just not federal lobbyists.  Seems to me that he is saying he won't tolerate federal lobbyists for political gain, but on a state level, it is business as usual. Trying to change how lobbyists operate is about as effective as trying to reform campaign financing (nice try McCain) because you can disallow them to operate as they do now, but they will simply find another way to achieve their client's goals.  It's a sad reality, but it is good that we are holding politicians accountable if they pander to corporations against the will of the people.  I wonder though, will Obama reject state lobbyists working for his new "green" industries, or just keep the blank checks coming out of our pockets regardless of whether it is effectively used?  My guess is the latter, but with a less-than-one-term Senator whom we barely know beyond "Change we can believe in", it is anyone's guess what he would do.  Change without substantive policies = Jimmy Carter
All of Obama supporters, wow, your candidtae is so close to perfection, with no tires to lobbyists(just has them working on his campaign to help him get elected president-hmmmm)
, so honest(the pastor, my crazy uncle, is not the man I thought I knew for "20 years"), so clear(name policies without going to website) and concise in his ideas(How are you going to help with the auto industry?- response-hey "sweetier" we will have a press avail), on and on and on... Good luck....
the fact remains that he is a grumpy old man who chooses to associate with the homophobic and racist religious right and the agents of foreign governments. Ask McCain about how he attacked Kathy Dubs on the Phoenix city council for calling him out on wanting an airport built on land owned by his wife's family.
The blatant hypocrisy of McCain is astounding, and the lobbyists standing around scratching their heads in bewilderment is totally out of touch.  If lobbyists were 100% outlawed, this country would be just fine.  Imagine that, legislation would finally be passed for the benefit of the American public.
Once again Sen.McCain does a Flip Flop he says he hates the lobbyists in Washington and wants to get rid of them yet he stacks his Key Positions with the most outrageous Lobbyst working for terriost and rogue leaders in the world.  So much for being a Maverick.

Sen. McCain once again has proven he wants to continue in the tradition of Mr. Bush because he voted with him 92% of his votes in Congress so it's a little late to say he's different.

After all the Republicans are saying they are Proud of President Bush and plan to use him to campaign financially and otherwise.

As always the President will deliver on his ratings something the Republicans are so Proud.

The Republicans caused this Recession now they mus realize there are consequences.

Negative adds, out talking folke with absolutely no substance, picking on candidates wives, refusing to submit the BIllion Dollar Tax Returns for Cindy McCain knowing that any candidate's wife must submit this information to deter4mine any conflict of interest for Sen. McCain.

After all look at the Lobbyist situation, while Sen. McCain attacks Sen. Obama about foreign policy he has ROgue lobbyists working for the very nations that he say he won't talk to.  Interesting.
It shows you how hypocrat  John McCain is. He is employing lobbists to run his compaign, siting on a $100 million+ empire of his wife's fortune, using all kinds of perks from wife's side. He still declares himself to be clean.  God help America, if we elect him the next president.
The McCain brand is about eight years past its sell-by date.
Let's see, he chases lobbyist skirts, tax cut for the wealthy and 100 more years in Iraq. He has the worst qualities of the past two presidents we can do without.
"Again, this is self-inflicted, yet noble."

Is it noble to call yourself a reformer against lobbying and then pack your campaign staff with lobbyists? Seems like the only reason McCain is purging his staff of lobbyists is that someone (Obama, maybe?) called him out on it.

Seems more hypocritical than noble.
Yes McBush is firing the lobbyists now...

What will stop him from offering a job to them AFTER he wins the White House??

Sounds to me like there are some back door deals... I'll make it look like I'm firing you now ...but I will keep a post open for you after Im President...

Not good...
What surprises me is that the GOP is a constant example of 'do what we say . . . not what we do' !!!
Scandals are part of the fabric of this conservative revolution. . .with sex; criminal indictments; corporate hand-outs & lobbyists;  and now we have McCain. . .the so-called maverick against special interests. . .Knee-deep in the pockets of the very people he claims to be against !!!!  Does he really believe the American people will overlook this ????
NOT !!!Again and again, as with the Bush administration. . .we are lied to, and expected to just keep quiet and trust them. . .but this election year will hopefully be different, and I really HOPE that the MSM will REPORT the FACTS, and NOT be afraid to tell us the TRUTH !!  And  btw, Richard Engels' interview was fantastic, and no amount of editing will help Bush appear any better. HE KNOWS NOTHING, and it shows !!!!
