Obama wins pledged majority

Posted: Tuesday, May 20, 2008 11:04 PM by Domenico Montanaro

From NBC's Domenico Montanaro
Obama has won a majority of the pledged delegates, according to the NBC NEWS count. NBC NEWS has allocated 20 of Oregon's 52 delegates, so far with a 10-10 split.

Obama now has 1,636 pledged delegates, including the 10 Edwards delegates. He needed 1,627.

The NBC NEWS Delegate Counts:
PLEDGED: Obama 1626 to 1491
SUPERDELEGATES: Obama 304.5 to 280.5
EDWARDS PL. DELEGATES: Obama 10 to 0
TOTAL: Obama 1,940.5 to 1,771.5

*** UPDATE *** NOTE: Obama needs 17 more pledged delegates to win a majority of the pledged delegates, INCLUDING splits favorable to Clinton in Michigan and Florida.

There are 32 delegates left to be allocated in Oregon. Obama has won 24 pledged delegates thus far tonight.

The 17 needed includes nine delegates from Edwards in Florida who have indicated they would vote for Obama. Without those Edwards delegates, Obama would need 26 more delegates. (The splits, which mirror the "beauty contest" primaries in Michigan and Florida, are how the Clinton campaign hopes they are eventually seated.

Those splits would be:
MI: Clinton 73-55
FL: Clinton 105-76 (w/ Edwards dels, 67 without)

First Read - what do you account for the SDs move to Obama in such lop-sided way?  Since Super Tuesday - it's been all Obama even after Clinton is winning big in some contests.  Does this underline a real antipathy towards Clintons within the Dem party?
Nancy Pelosi should keep her word and commit to Obama now that he has clinched the elected delegate race.

The Clintons are making a mockery of the entire process. This needs to come to an end now.
*****Wow !!
How convenient !
NOW that Sen. Obama has the majority of pledged delegates ---he's off to Florida!
Where was he several months ago when Floridians needed him most????  Answer --on the beach in St. Thomas!  Now that he seems to have wrapped this up---suddenly he's singing a different tune!

How convenient of him!  Trust me  --Floridians are not that stupid and come November --they will remember!
As for the super delegates, we have your list of names, you will be accountable on Election day and beyond.  Everyone is going to be looking for accountability.  Forward to Election Day 08.  Can you imagine the backpedaling going on when it comes to explaining how Obama - the nominee by math not by sensibility- loses key states? Ohio, Pennsylvania, Florida , Michigan, West Virginia.  Couldn't win them in the primaries and will lose them in the General Election.
The Clinton campaign is so dishonest that I can't think of anything like it in my lifetime. You can't count a race that was not suppose to count. You cannot count a race that the DNC and both Senator Obama and Senator Clinton agreed to not count. This is just ridiculous and unbecoming of a leader to be so disingenuous. She will certainly do anything to win even if it means continue to lie her way through this campaign season.

Please make this MADNESS STOP. FL and MI are not supposed to count. You can not change the rules of the game towards the end of the game. This is NONSENSE.

Please everyone send your dollars, even though you need them to Hillie Clinton.  Since she can't get the power at least she can go shopping and pay off her debts.  It's not right for someone so tough, tenacious, and smart - smart enough to get your dollars to not get what she deserves.  Please send now before thunder thighs starts whining again.
Great job Obama! The people have spoken and have clearly chosen who they want to lead this nation for the Democratic party.

Russert is just throwing hillarbee a bone, he already called Sen. Obama the winner, and he's so right!
Fl. & Mi s/b 50/50 or no deal, don't give into the Billary scams. Oh and all you suckers that donated more money to Hill & Bill, just so they can pay themselves back the money they "LOANED" their campaign. I'm sure they don't want their net worth to drop below 100 million, on a losing investment! Don't ya wish you could get a refund too... Sen. Obama Rocks!

Interesting thought.... Hillary wins Puerto Rico 70%-30% and Obama picks up only 17 delegates there. Hmmm.... Puerto Rico gives the clear cut lead, even counting FL and MI. Puerto Rico gives Obama the win, even with a major Obama loss there. Why does Hillary stay in?
It is refreshing to watch what is happening. Watching a relative unknown do what Obama is doing expresses the frustration of politics as usual. I know Obama will never read what I got to say but He reflects what we want WORTHWHILE Change!
