Hillary as Al Gore?

From NBC/NJ’s Mike Memoli
BOCA RATON, Fla. -- Hillary Clinton painted the delegate disputes in Florida and Michigan as the latest in a long history of fights for voting rights, and said that if Democrats fail to count these states’ votes, the party will “pay not only a moral cost but a political cost.”

Clinton referred to the nation’s founding, the abolitionist movement, suffragists and civil rights activists, and even the 2000 Florida recount in outlining how long people have fought for the principle that every person’s voice should be heard.

“Because of those who have come before, Sen. Obama and I and so many of you have this precious right today,” she said. “Because of all that has been done, we are in this historic presidential election, and I believe that both Sen. Obama and myself have an obligation as potential Democratic nominees, in fact, we all have an obligation as Democrats, to carry on this legacy and ensure that in our nominating contest, every voice is heard and every single vote is counted.”

Clinton came here to Palm Beach County -- the “epicenter” of the recount controversy -- and to this specific senior center where she appeared nine months ago, to argue that for Democrats to now stand in the way of voting rights would belie the party’s principles.

“To do so would undermine the very purpose of the nominating process: to ensure that as many Democrats as possible can cast their votes, to ensure that the party selects a nominee who truly represents the will of the voters, and to ensure that the Democrats take back the White House to rebuild America,” she said. “Now I’ve heard some say that counting Florida and Michigan would be changing the rules. I say that not counting Florida and Michigan is changing a central governing rule of this country, that whenever we can understand the clear intent of the voters, their vote should be counted.”

And specifically referring to the Florida recount, she said she remembered when people argued that votes “should be discounted over technicalities.”

And in a way, she compared her fate to that of Al Gore’s.

“We believe the popular vote is the truest expression of your will,” she said. “We believe it today just as we believed it back in 2000 when right here in Florida, you learned the hard way what happens when your votes aren’t counted, and the candidate with fewer votes is declared the winner. The lesson of 2000 here in Florida is crystal clear. If any votes aren’t counted, the will of the people isn’t realized and our democracy is diminished. That’s what I’ve always believed.”

Clinton urged those in the crowd to visit her Web site and add their names to a petition urging the DNC to move to count the delegates.

“I’m here today because I believe we should keep that faith, listen to your voices, and count every single one of your votes,” she said. “If we fail to do so I worry that we will pay not only a moral cost, but a political cost as well. We know the road to a Democratic White House runs right through Florida and Michigan. If we care about winning those states in November we need to count your votes now. If Democrats send a message that we don’t fully value your votes, we know that Senator McCain and the Republicans will be more than happy to have them.”

Will someone PLEASE make her disappear?????
In terms of recent ethics in action, Clinton has far more in common with the Bush camp circa 2000 than Gore's.
I haven't heard her mention Barack by name in months!!! We can all only hope now that the reality of what's happening just might be settling in ...
OBAMA '08
Please give us a picture of this...I really need to see a "straight face" before I believe that she said this while wearing one!
What about the people who DIDN'T vote in Michigan and Florida.  If we just count them, the people who didn't vote because it wasn't supposed to count are all disenfranchised?  What about the four caucus states with no popular vote?  Do we just disenfranchise them with the "popular vote" metric?

When will the media start asking these questions instead of blindly parroting everything Clinton says?
interesting you didn't hear all this passionate support for michigan and florida voting rights when the dnc made its ruling way back when.  i wonder why....

oh, yeah!  back then she was the inevitable nominee and she didn't need their votes.  what a tool!!
Hillary you are a sorry excuse of a women...Women should be ashamed of you........Bill is the one planting all these slick thoughts in her head....Mr. I didnt have sexual relations with that women...Nowing Damn well he did....Hillary cant win straight up so she doing a last ditch effort to create some kinda back door deal.....Talking about only the popular vote counts.... Shameless women yelling at clouds.....
I'm not big on this comparison between Gore and Clinton, as I currently like one and not the other.  I sure hope this doesn't become a narrative.
She is absolutely awful.
So HRC..."I say that not counting Florida and Michigan is changing a central governing rule of this country, that whenever we can understand the clear intent of the voters, their vote should be counted.”

Wake up lazy media...because SHE was one of the people who said this months ago and also voted to punish them last fall...and some of her closest advisors helped create the rule in the first place.
Can someone ask her why wasn't she this mad last year?

Where are we going with this?  This is toilet campaigning and it is unbecoming of her to do this.

She is no Al Gore and from the start this was a delegate race and much to her argument Gore lost to the popular vote and so will she, because these are not the rules.

We won't know until D day, so more spin and more drama until then.
We In Florida Were Told That Our Votes Would Not Count So Majority Of My Friends And Neighbors Didn't Vote. For Her To Say We Didn't Count Back Then And Now We Do Has Turned Off Alt Of Voters Here.People Have Come To realize That She Is A Farce.Barak Has A Huge Rally On Friday And We Will Be Attending, Cause We Believe He Has A Plan For This Country.
Go Obama 08
I think us dedicated democrats that have played the primary election game fairly, should really begin to wonder why? Hillary continues to defy the notion that she has lost.  No matter how she spins or tries to change the rules in the middle and end of the game she has to know she can't win and is falling further and further behind.

I wonder, like a lot of people what her goal is at this stage of the game.  I have said months ago when it was certain she would not win, that she was trying to plant the seed for her Presidency in 2012.  But, she has to know that if she causes Barack Obama to not win this election. She certainly will not be in a position to win in 2012. She is losing support now because of her charades. Her support would be minimal or non-existent come 2012.

It has to be something else...if she was speaking about what she can do as the President, her agendas, her plans, etc.  It would be fair to say she feels she is the better candidate and may need to continue because the game is not really over.  But to continue to harp on the notion that she is more electable when in fact she will not be in the position to be elected, really only plays to Barack Obama's election possibilities. (He will win, there no doubt) but what does that say about Hillary's commitment to the Democratic Party.

Then I think about the beginning of this process when somehow the GOP caused the mess in FL & MI...Was this planned? Did another Karl Rove step in to disrupt the primary for the democrat's chance of winning the GE.  It's funny to me how this happened and now Hillary is using this to plead her case to continue; all the while she is hammering at Barack Obama's chances in becoming the next President of the U.S.A.   I don't know..But I smell conspiracy and it began about 15 months ago.
voting rights?  the party BROKE THE RULES.  Yikes.
"And in a way, she compared her fate to that of Al Gore’s."
--Did she invent the internet too.  Or maybe she has a lockbox?  Some report will have to ask Bill Clinton.
"Clinton referred to the nation’s founding, the abolitionist movement, suffragists and civil rights activists, and even the 2000 Florida recount in outlining how long people have fought for the principle that every person’s voice should be heard."

Didn't Clinton refuse to agree the re-vote plan, killing it, because it would have allowed the citizens who stayed home, thinking the primary would not count, to participate? She only wanted a re-vote of those who had voted? What a hypocrite.
she cares so much about voters rights and intent, yet wants the superdelegates to overturn the will of those same voters (and also hints at having the elected delegates switch sides as well).  she's karl rove.
Please - stop insulting Al Gore!
"How to Destroy Your Party By Throwing a Temper Tantrum"

By Hillary Clinton

Seriously, she needs to go.
Didn't she say some time back at the Faith Forum that Al Gore and Kerry lost the election because they were... elitists? Really, she should make up her mind and stick with a story. It's making my head spin trying to keep up with her spin.
HILLIARY FOR PRESIDENT INDEPENDENT PARTY 2008 THATS GOTTA HURT ALL THE OBAMMAWANNABE$S CHANCES WITHOUT THE EVIL QUEEN YOU LOSE>HA How great if he picks her and you people all have to say nice things to win because OBAM<MA says so SIMON SAYS PUT YOUR HAND IN YOUR WALLET  HA HA HA HA HA HA HA NOW you know gore really lost thats what the rules said
VOTING RIGHTS!!!

This is a private political party - they can use straws to choose a candidate if they wanted.

IT is NOT in the U.S. Constitution.
Enough is enough.  The math is what it is.  Someone please make her go away.
Please just keep campaigning in Puerto Rico, Montana and South Dakota so Obama can end this on June 3rd.  Hillary is nearly directly quoting Obama Iowa victory speech yesterday.

Hillary's relationship with the Democratic Party when it comes to Obama is like a mother (Hillary) and daughter (Democratic Party).  The Democratic Party respects Hillary but is in love with Obama.  Hillary is saying to the Democratic Party "stay with me because Obama is bad for you"..."don't leave the nest".

Just like a mother who doesn't want to let go of her adult daughter to marry the man she loves, Hillary doesn't want to let go of the Democratic Party to support Obama , the man the party loves.
I just sent Barbara Boxer an e-mail asking her to get off the fence and endorse Barack as well as getting the rest of the uncommitted CA supers to do likewise.  Hey more Obama supporters need to e-mail  the other umcommitted supers in their states, especially ones Obama has won, to endorse Obama and end this despicable attempt to steal away the rightful nomination of Obama.

How far will this Wicked Witch of the East dig our party into debt with her disgusting attacks on Barack Obama and her ignorant financial plan?  She doesn't care one bit about the voters of Florida or Michigan or the Democratic Party, she only cares about herself.

I sure hope the supers show her the door before May 31st.  Florida and Michigan jumped the gun, broke the party primary rules and don't deserve to change the will of the vast majority of the people who voted legitimately in the other 48 states and several territories.

Go Obama 08/12!
Thats the beauty of it, watching her self destruct. "If the dream is big enough, the facts don't matter."
I get it...rules are made to be broken (by the Clintons).  Rules are for everyone but the Clintons.  Thats why you stayed with Mr. Impeached President.  Sexism is not in play just your willing to bend and break rules without any remorse.

Bob, Chicago

Hillary is right, and Obama (as usual) is wrong.
Honesty, Integrity, and Chracter Count.
Obama has NONE of thse.
I declare Hillary  you are stooping to a new low. Please what will it take to convince you to shut up!! I am all for you continuing to campaign and all. But this blatant lying must cease at once. It is to the point that she is all about dividing the party with her allegations of sexism, and her claims of caring about the voters in FL and MI. I really think that she has no grip of reality. With all the yes people around her it just validates her nonsense. They way she has lied to make herself out to be a winner in this election is just as bad as the arguement that Bush's Admin. presented for the the Iraq war. It was a lie that was easy to see, when not wrapped up with emotion. Just like if her supporters where not wrapped up with emotion of the process they would see that she is lying through her teeth .
If HRC manages to defy the math and get the nomination, I would vote AGAINST McCain, but I would never vote against HRC in order to spite the HRC fans, that, to me is juvenile and NOT in the best interests of anyone, let alone our country.

John McCain is a moron, he graduated in the bottom six of his class at the Naval Academy (894 out of 899).

John McCain is an adulterer, he regularly cheated on his first wife, Carol up until he divorced her because she gained weight and walked with crutches after a horrible car accident. McCain married his trophy wife, 17 years his junior, two months after the divorce was final.

John McCain voted to support George Bush's initiatives 92% of the time.  John McCain would be George Bush's third term -- "straight talk" disappeared after the SC whisper campaign in 2000 when Rove took him out of the race.  Since then, John McCain has embraced George Bush and his policy positions -- every one except global warming.

So vote for McCain if
~ you want to add to the $3 trillion 'mortgage' that Bush has signed away to Chinese and Arab billionaires that you, your children, your grandchildren and your great grandchildren will have to pay
~ you like adding daily to the dead and wounded tallies in Iraq

~ you believe that corporations should run this country (by the way, that's called fascism)
~ you like the oil companies making record profits while you are struggling to fill your gas tank.
~ you like having the jobs that pay a living wage shipped over seas
~ you like making minimum wage and you don't ever want it raised
~ you don't ever want unemployment benefits extended after your plant closes
~ you want to lose your health care
~ you want to lose your pension
~ you want to lose Social Security

~ you think that senility is cute in a President/leader.
~ you want some one who admits that he doesn't understand the economy (his words)
~ you want some one who will always shoot first and talk later
~ you want some one who embraces the right wing hate preachers -- like Hagee and Parsley
~ you want some one who still has about 50 lobbyists running his campaign -- they are not pulling for you -- even worse -- in some cases they are representing foreign governments -- like Myanmar.

~ you don't like Obama's former pastor -- so you are going to show him how ignorant you are.
~ you don't like Obama's skin color -- so you are going to show him how racist you are.
~ you don't like the fact that Obama is intelligent and educated and proved how well he can run a campaign with out relying on "fat cat" donors and with out going into debt -- so you are going to show him how jealous you are.
~ you don't like all the "Get out the Vote" and "grass roots organization" that BHO has done to increase voter registration and turnout -- so you are going to show him how resistant to change you are.

So go ahead, spite Obama, spite yourself and vote for McCain

Or this time do something smart and vote for your wallet, vote for the economy, vote for the environment, vote for jobs.

Vote for the smartest candidate in the race, a real leader (and no that's not McCain -- not by a long shot)

Vote Democratic 2008 -- don't let the corporations and their Republican stooges win again.
"The lesson of 2000 here in Florida is crystal clear. If any votes aren’t counted, the will of the people isn’t realized and our democracy is diminished. That’s what I’ve always believed.”

If this is what she always beleived then why did she sign an agreement that Florida and Michigan will not be considered in the pledged delegate totals.
Please Hillary don't be a SORE LOSER.
This woman would be good for the Supreme Court as a justice, because she will not stop until the last sound has been heard. If all the candidates signed an agreement regarding this matter, then it should stand as is. How is it that the DNC is even considering allowing the rules to be changed. If the rules are changed just for because she's being a squeeky wheel, then the DNC is shady and I want no part of the Democratic Party. It's not democratic at all to disenfranchise 48 states for two rule breaking states.
A better comparison would be with Lieberman not Gore.

If you really want to fairly represent the will of the people in those states then the only answer is to commission a scientific poll and apportion the delegates based on the result. It will far more equitable than any other scheme.  But please don't throw in any super-delegates. They are the ones who are not innocent and should be punished.
hrc should have run in 04, maybe could have beaten bush. rove would have made sure she was treated with kid gloves, since they are so much in agreement in the fine arts of machiavellian politics. howard wolfson would be the minister of propaganda, hrc would be running for re-election against that maverick mccain. oh if hillary would have had the foresight. bush must have scared her, or her policies alone were not enough to distance herself from him, they are both big on war. hillary a cookie laced with arsenic, here's your head what's your hurry.
Al Gore just lost his lunch when he saw this headline!!

Where is the comparison?
It's time for the DNC to bring the Delegate situation to a close.   To continue this unflattering picture, scare tactics, talk about civil rights when she envoked race into the race, and milaign VP Al Gore is just beyond belief.

Super delegates it's past time to send the message that you will not continue to let this woman destroy the party.  Everyone has been walking on egg shells with the Clintons, clearly if they don't want to be a part of the DNC, let them go with well wishes and blessings.

hard working women across this nation, this clearly is not the example we want to set nor support.  To use your gender as and advantage is just not acceptable.  We disavow Sen. Clinton
Ugh!!!  Enough already!!!
I hope she joins the republican party...I really do...
It is like watching a train wreck everyday until June 3.
Would you like to see lawyers, and politicians at there absolute hated worst? See Hillary, and Bill Clinton.
Now that she has threatened to take this to the convention if they don't seat them all, the SD's better get off their kiesters before they split the party and lose their seatsters.
she cares so much about voters rights and intent, yet wants the superdelegates to overturn the will of those same voters (and also hints at having the elected delegates switch sides as well).  she's karl rove.
She STINKS to high HELL of ENTITLEMENT!!!  I agree w/ you 100% "Jay"  Bill Richardson and Joe Andrew were correct!
Oh for heaven's sake - let it go Hillary.  Had she already sewed the nomination up like she thought she was meant to, this would not be an issue!  The rules never really apply to the Clintons!

Can't someone deliver a reality check to Hillary?  PLEASE!

WOW
If she would look up and see the general election traain leaving the station (with her not on it) that would be really great for everyone involved. I am glad she has found her voice, now she just needs to use it to say I concede
Hillary:
The recipe for making cookies is on the back of the package.
Peter Paul vs Clinton       Lawsuit: Fraud
claims you bought your Senate seat?
Funny thing is...sh'es trying to steal the election the same way Gore tried...
James Tn, we are ashamed of her!!!
Hillary is a Republican! Why?
1. She has been siding with McCain on many issues (e.g. that her and him bring 'experience' while OB brings a speech)
2. She likes gimmicks (gas tax holiday!)
3. She says IF she was using Republican rules, she would be the nominee.
4. She is using Rove's analysis as a basis for being electable in November. What an abomination. Rove's advice to Bush has driven this country into this mess, and that is Hillary's hero! What judgement...
Vore Obama!
Why don't the party leaders step in and make this end? This is damaging the party.
