Clinton: The push to be veep

Posted: Friday, May 23, 2008 9:22 AM by Domenico Montanaro

What does Hillary want? The New York Times reports that as many folks predicted, Bill Clinton is contemplating the idea of Hillary as Obama's running mate. "The reports about Mr. Clinton’s musings surface as the Obama camp has quietly begun the process of searching for a partner on the Democratic ticket. The prospect of an Obama-Clinton ticket has been fodder for political gossip for months, with some Democratic leaders pushing the idea as a way to unify the party. The Obama and Clinton campaigns have consistently shrugged off the idea, however, and Mrs. Clinton has been adamant that she is only interested in the presidency.”

“Yet anyone who knows the Clintons is well aware that, at times, they come to politics with different motivations. Both of them want to return to the White House; Mrs. Clinton, of New York, also enjoys being a senator, while Mr. Clinton, according to associates, sees the vice presidency as perhaps her best path to becoming president someday if she loses the nominating fight. And Mr. Clinton has his own ideas about his wife’s best interests -- even if she sometimes does not share them."

A few things to think about regarding HRC as Obama’s veep: Will the former president allow Jim Johnson to fully vet his business deals? Will he get a look at the library donor records? Will he be OK with the limitations on where he can speak and who he cuts business deals with?

“Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.), a Clinton booster, told The [New York] Post, ‘I am one that believes that if it works out that Senator Obama is the nominee, the strongest ticket would be Senator Clinton as vice president. No question in my mind. Because the constituencies in the votes are different. The weight of the states he carried versus the states she carried. It's different. And, therefore, if you combine them both, you've got the best electoral path.’ Feinstein said she promotes an Obama-Clinton ticket with everyone she talks to.

“Sen. Tom Carper (D-Del.), a vice chair of the Democratic Leadership Council, said, ‘I'll encourage [Obama] to ask, and if he does, for her to say yes.’ He added, ‘She would be a good president if something ever were to happen to him. She'll deliver a heck of a lot of women in a lot of states.’”

Check out the Post’s cover, complete with an Obama-Clinton wedding cake: “Man and vice.”

And check out this graphic showing the pros and cons of putting Clinton on the ticket. (It also highlights that she’s wearing two different shoes.)

NO, NO, NO, NO OBAMA (Sent Friday, May 23, 2008 9:48 AM):

Well NO, NO....be prepared because Obama is going to be your next President. You can take that to the bank. And that is based on the fact with absloutely no doubt that the McCain Express will implode before the GE race is over. You have seen nothing yet regarding over-the-top angry explosions from McCain. It will destroy his candidacy.
No way for Hillary. I would rather risk losing the support of all the histrionic Hillary supporters like Taylor Marsh, Geraldine Ferraro, et. al. than to deal with the ramifications of putting this unstable, irrational, narcissist anywhere near the ticket. The honorable people who have supported Hillary because they agreed with her stance on the issues , and felt that she could articulate them better than Obama recognize the danger in a McCain presidency. I believe the vast majority of Hillary's supporters are like David Patterson; they have expressed loyalty to their candidate through the primary process, but are pragmatic enough to recognize the primary process is finished. They also understand that we need to unite to defeat McCain.
Making Hillary VP would alienate Independents, moderates, AA, and spur the radical right to mobilize
against the ticket.
DEAR GOD NO!!!!!!!!!

Senator Obama, please don't commit political suicide and join forces with the Clintons.
Big whoop, Hillary's name gets tossed out as a potential veep pick.  So what.  Until/If it happens perhaps it would be best to chill.  Let Obama make his choice.  Geez, no need to get so worked up about something that will never come to pass.  Lordy, has someone spiked the Kool aid?  Relax folks it will all be good.
Advise to Senator Barack Obama:

Just say NO to BILLARY Clinton!
ABH

Anybody. But. Hillary.
NO!
NO  This is about Bill Clinton. Give Hilary a supreme court nomination or leadership in the senate.  Knock off the "requirement" the Barack take her as VP.  He should pick the VP HE wants!!!!!
Time to break get the calculator out of the freezer, because the VP decision will be a cold calculation on who will best increase the chance of winning.  Obama supporters should face this: Hillary has campaigned all over the US and won many many votes.  She would seem to be an asset to the ticket at this point in time.
And Hillary's Spirit, ranging for Revenge
With Hate at her side, come Hot from Hell
Will in these confines with a Maniac's Voice
Cry "Havoc " and let slip the Dogs of War

Forgive me Bard

I love Barack, but if he takes Hillary, I won't vote for him because he sold out for the same old politics
With Diane Feinstein making that idiotic argument, I think it's time for CA to choose a new senator to replace her. She's been a democratic leader for years but has done NOTHING to change the system, so SHUT UP. Look, all the conservative Republican pundits want her on the ticket. What does that tell you people? They lost getting her as Pres, so they're working the VP route. They can't wait to get her on the ticket so they can win!Did you ever hear them saying we should choose John Kerry four years ago? No. Why? Because he was the strongest candidate! WAKE UP!
I AM SICK AND TIRED OF THE PRESSURE PUT ON OBAMA TO SELECT HILLARY!  THE WOMAN IS A LIAR, THIEF, VOTED MOST UNTRUSTWORTHY, AND CARRIES OTHER BAGGAGE SUCH AS THE LAW SUIT (PAUL VS. CLINTON).

YOU DON'T HEAR ANYONE PRESSURING MCSHAME!!!

AS AN OBAMA SUPPORTER, I WILL NOT SUPPORT AN OBAMA/CLINTON TICKET!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I have voted straight republican for years, but this year will vote for Obama.  I have had enough of my party.  However, if Clinton is on the ticket, I'll be back to McCain in a heartbeat.
NO  This is about Bill Clinton. Give Hilary a supreme court nomination or leadership in the senate.  Knock off the "requirement" the Barack take her as VP.  He should pick the VP HE wants!!!!!
We want CHANGE! No Clinton for VP!
The Clintons need to go home.

It's over.

Goodbye. Good luck.
Everyone should read Peggy Noonan's article in the Wall Street Journal before they think about considering Hillary Clinton as vp, let alone president. Everything that Hillary does is manipulative and distorting. Her hysterical rant about the votes in Florida and Michigan prove that , unless she ( and Bill ) are delusional , which is possible.
If she were to be a candidate, remember that over 50% of the population doesn't trust her and the Republicans would bring out all the real Clinton scandals ( as opposed to the manufactured ones about Obama) including the pardons and the roles of the Rodham brothers.
Send her home to Bill
