Weekend delegate update: Obama 6-1

Posted: Monday, May 26, 2008 10:29 AM by Domenico Montanaro

From NBC’s Domenico Montanaro
Obama picked up six delegates to Clinton’s one over the weekend. He got one from Alaska (former Gov. Tony Knowles 5/25), Wyoming (W. Patrick Goggles 5/24) and Georgia (Stephen Leeds) and three from Hawaii Brian Schatz -- new HI party chairman 5/25; Kari Luna -- new HI party vice chairwoman, and James Burns -- add on) after state conventions this weekend. Clinton also got one – add-on Verna Cleveland from Georgia.

The NBC NEWS Delegate Counts:

PLEDGED: Obama 1,647 to 1,502
SUPERDELEGATES: Obama 315.5 to 282.5
EDWARDS PL. DELEGATES: Obama 12 to 0
TOTAL: Obama 1,974.5 to 1,784.5

* Obama is 51.5 delegates away from the required 2,026, according the NBC NEWS counts.

(We are also checking to see if we will adjust Alaska’s count. NBC had a 9-4 split for Obama, but according to AP, Obama picked up both statewide PLEOs. That would give a 10-3 split there. We will update if adjusted.)

Are the Democratic super delegates of 2008 going to be remembered for their horrific cowardice? Waiting until June 3rd is something Clinton does not deserve anymore.
I pray that this will soon be over and that the superdels put Hillary out to pasture.  I really have had enough of her and her husband, and don't care if I ever see them again (but unfortunately I know I will, unless I trash my TV set, throw away my radios, and never go on the internet again).
Oh my goodness!  This will finally be over!  YAY!  On to the Republicans!

DEMS 08
Super, keep them coming!
According to the Clintons, "It's still so close"!  In another universe that may be true, but not in America. It's not close because Clinton has shown that she won't take responsibility for her own words.  (How can anyone expect her to tell the truth about events that nobody can witness first hand?) Somehow, she and her campaign are allowed by the media to blame Obama for her most disgusting comments.  Why repeat her stupid assertion that it's Obama's fault that people have rightfully recognized that she is a "vulture-in-waiting"?
Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. cannot tell me how to interpret what I heard and saw for myself.  He is a fool to allow the Clintons to use him in such a way.  I bet his father is ashamed that he would try to minimize the insidious nature of Clinton's words. I am ashamed for him!
Congratulations to Obama and Clinton for picking up delegates. To Hillary supporters: many have been saying that Hillary's comments on RFK are taking out of context and it is unfair. I don't think that she meant anything by it. However, she parsed Obama's words with bitter-gate. If she wants people to be fair to her and not parse her words, than she should not do that to her opponent. It is disinegnious that her supporters do not want the media to point her mistakes, but discuss the errors of Obama. Part of the feminist movement is for women to be equal to men. If Hillary wants to be equal and treated the same as her male counterparts, than her mistakes need to be discussed. If it is not discussed, than it is counterintuiative to the feminist movement because Hillary is getting special treatment due to her gender. Fair is fair. Both Obama and Clinton have their words parsed and miscontrued. It is part of the process. She engages in this process, but when it does not benefit her she becomes angry. She can't have it both ways. She ran a failed campaign by ignoring the caucuses and had no plan after super tuesday. She has no one to blame, but herself for losing the nomination. Just a thought.
With Hillary " Janus " Clinton blaming the Obama camp for hyping her comments on assassination and Bill claiming she has been mistreated and everyone forcing her out of the campaign. I womder what responsiblity should be placed on the Clintons for their actions and comments.  Memorial Day is a day for honoring our fallen and wounded soldiers. It is a day of recognizing duty and honor. At a time when John McCain is walking in lockstep with George Bush on the GI bill I would like to see Hillary take the high road and really push for party and country unity.  Stay in Hillary but stop the complaining no one is forcing you out or disrespecting you. Instead it is you who disrespect all of those voters who did not vote for you and who are being insulted by your words and actions.
6-1, HRC should take this as a sign to get out of the race, as in the bars, if a person is 61'd, they are cut off.  Hint, hint, hint, hint.
Great Job.  Obama is almost there!!!

thanks for posting this concise and highly telling tally of delegates to date. Seeing these only deepens my concern stirred by Bill Clinton's comments this weekend as to how a general paranoid "they're" out for his wife.  Could it be that Hillary is caught up in his drive to get back into the White House in order to improve the Clinto legacy in history books? Bill's passion is suspect - its intensity leads me to feel that this really is all about him - as usual - with wife and daughter dutifully marching in lockstep. Again, thanks for the concise posting.

51.5 delegates away... I hope tht the remaining undecided supers, some who will to wait until June 4,have made up thier minds about two things: 1. to go to Obama swiftly and in a vast majority to end this thing in a "make-no-mistake-about-it" fashion. 2. now that we are in the "post RFK" episode, in public as well as behind closed doors, they will make it clear why Hillary cannot be on the ticket. 3. they will then do everything in their power to make sure Obama wins in the Fall.
Chuck,
I think Senator Clinton has lost most of her leverage to get what she wants from Senator Obama after Obama receives the number of delegates to get the nomination.

It appears her bazaar behavior and comments trump her delegate count. She may have talked and behaved out of power and influence in the Democratic Party.

What do you think?
Way to go, supers! Keep 'em coming!

Obama '08
This is great!  I hope the Clinton camp lead by Senator Clinton will see fit to apologize for the assassination remarks she made to the Obama family as well.  Huckabee, Clinton and now Liz Trotta have caused a great problem by threatening, mis-speaking and or joking about assassination of a man who is trying to inspire and lead this country. I am calling on the Black super delegates who support Clinton to pressure her to apologize.  I hope both Obama and Hillary Super Delegates come over to Obama.  We have to defeat Senator McCain.
Barack has a 190 delegate lead, and the Hillary camp still says it is extremely close. That is 11% higher - no way she could catch him.
This is so great. The Kennedy torch has been passed.  It's a new day in politics.  Not since the Kennedy brothers has there been so much hope.  Go Obama.  YES WE CAN.
Good someone needs to tell Clinton...it's almost over, and she needs to prepare to go home, and stay there.
The count down has started, We have  T-8 Day's and I would project that Oboma will have 2026 Delegates and he is then the Nominee. I think that by the time the Rules Committee meets there is going to be a comprise on a 55- 45% on Florida. And a 55-45% on Michigan. Then the delegates of those 2 states will be added.
I really just want to know when Clinton will stop. Can she give us a timeline like the one she criticized Bush for not giving in Iraq?
And now, it's down to 49 !!

Good to know this Primary is FINALLY down to its last week!

Happy Memorial Day!

Here is a recipe reported to be good.

McCain's Ribs

Dry rub= 1/3 part garlic powder, 1/3 part salt, 1/3 part pepper, 3 lemons

Turn the gril on low temp

mix together dry rub. Yhen cover both sides of the ribs with it

Grill ribs, bone side down for 90% of the time. It will take about an 1 1/2 hour.

Got this rib recipe from another site, hope the person who put it in does not mind  me sharing it.

It was brought to my attention Friday, May 23, by a resident of Florida, that all eligible voters in Florida were sent Absentee Ballots in November, 2007 without having requesting them.  There were a record number of Absentee Ballots cast.  She said that in November people in Florida new very little about Senator Obama; most voted for Clinton or Edwards.
Who ordered those ballots to be mailed out?  There is little wonder why Senator Clinton wants the Florida votes counted.
The delegate count countinues to rise and the quality of President Clinton's remarks and the Clinton campaign statements continue to recede. It's unfortunate that the gender card, the sexism statements, and the fuzzy math is being touted. It's become more than sad.
I LOVE KEITH OLBERMANN!!!! HE ROCKS, NOT AFRAID TO SAY WHAT NEEDS TO BE SAID!
I am so totally sick and tired of hearing about Michigan and Florida.  I don't care if their delegates are seated or counted.  I could care less.  They broke the rules too bad so sad.  Moreover, if anyone in those two states or anywhere else for that matter want to vote for McCain go ahead.  I hope because of you "GAS" prices jump to $15 a gallon, not only do you get no new jobs but the well-to-do will keep shipping them overseas.  Go ahead an vote againts your own interest.  Lets hope also the Supreme Court gets 3 more conservative judges to ruin your lives.  Go ahead do it please.  I will never feel sorry for any of you once you've decided to make that decision.  You will deserve all the pain the McCain and Bush cronies will levy on you.
Well, If any supers (why in the world they are called that way?) reading this:

Clock is going ticky!

Bill is going crazy!

Hill is busy dividing!

After all this "I did not really mean that",
we DEMs are hurting bad.

We, the all powerfull voters understand that you Supers will end this sometime in the future. However, I think the damage is already done.

It is probably too late for us to come together. May be we will have a better luck in 2012!

A true, sincere but seriously hurt democrat.

With all those delegates out there in the "super" catagory, it's surprising there are no leaks about their thinking, particularly for June 3 plans to endorse their favored candidates.  Why can't there an announced plan of action for after all the states and territories have voted??  I just can't seem to wait for an outcome and resent all the needless mystery.  What am I missing?
WONDERFUL NEWS. THANK YOU

I CAN'T WAIT TO SEE OBAMA, HIS WIFE AND TWO BEAUTIFUL GIRLS MOVING TO THE WHITE HOUSE.
I can log on to difent sites and they all have different delegate counts. Can someone tell me why that is?
this election is a big joke
the candidate with the most popular votes is losing.
so called super delegates -
[appointed unelected delegates]
get to be the ones to decide for the rest of the party.
we got this illinois senator who has the backing of the city of chicago`s southside ward bosses and boss hogg[daley]and no military & little other political
experience and who`s buddy are a bunch of elrukans and crazy eights ministers.
wish shawn hennity was a democrat:-|

The math is going the way HRC doesn't want it to go.
She lost any support she ever could have had with me, not just with her RFK assassination statement, but her refusal to apologize to Obama for it.  Then to top it off she accuses Obama of whipping the story up when he only made 2 statements about it: 1, "it's unfortunate," and 2, "let's give her the benefit of the doubt."
Not only does she make such a horrific statement but then she tries to capitalize on it!
Then as she loses SD support she claims SDs don't matter anymore.  If SDs and delegates didn't matter, all that would matter would be campaigning hard enough in the big cities to get the max popular vote, and entire states like Iowa and New Hampshire would get ignored altogether!
Oh yes, we know they don't matter because Bubba Clinton has already thrown caucus states under the bus when speaking in North Carolina.
Her conduct in this nomination process has been so unbecoming of any official title, be it Senator or former First Lady let alone President!

Since 2000, there have been several REAL women who have run for president or vice president including Elizabeth Dole, Ezola Foster, and Carol Moseley Braun.  Feminists of America, worry not, a female P or VP will happen sooner than you know it, and when that candidate appears, the world will see, she'll be a much better candidate and HUMAN than HRC could ever dream of being.
I sure as heck hope you caught a lot of fish because we miss you.  I wanted to talk about Hillary's assissnation gaffe, Olbermann comments, The impact on her vice presidential race...But you were gooone.  It was probably said best on Huffington Post: "We should probably stop telling Hillary to sit down, but tell the supers to stand up."  I'm sure they will this week and there will be a flood after June 3rd. No reason to wait and no reason to support her. I will add that about a week ago Bill should have said, "Hillary, the party is over, it is time to go home!"
Hey man! You are one dedicated son of a gun...don't you know that you had until tomorrow to get back to the salt mines.  What's the MSNBC take on the effects of the Hillary hub-bub vis a vis the RFK reference.  My feelings?...and y'all know that I'm an Obamaniac...it was calculated to draw outrage from the Obama camp (and they handled it well).  I think camp Hillary senses itself slipping into oblivion and they wanted to let everyone know that they're still around.  Also by fanning the fires of divisiveness in the party, (then denying malicious intent), she makes her case for being on the ticket, as the healer.  Nobody ever said they weren't smart.  I think that it won't accomplish their goal because Hillary doesnt' bring much to the ticket.  Most women, although disappointed that the sister didn't make it, know that Obama is a women's rights advocate (barring the sweetie comment) and will never vote for the socially conservative, pro-war McCain.  Blue collar, non- college-educated whites are either racist or not (determining their vote) and the racist one's are often times sexist as well.  Also Gore lost blue collar whites by some 14% to Bush and still won the popular vote.  Hopefully the new demographics that consist of newly registered young folks and black folks will provide a larger margin of victory and a resultant large electoral college victory.

I believe that if Obama really speaks to the racism in all of us (emphasizing that it is a problem shared by all ethnic groups with negative discriminatory effects felt by all) he can move some of the less recalcitrant race voters and allow them to actually vote for their self-interest instead of voting out of fear.

I am delighted to see Obama continuing to pick up delegates in the face of increasingly desperate and irrational tactics by his opponent - especially in the aftermath of the RFK fiasco. It seems that almost every time Hilary opens her mouth now, she puts her foot in it, and Barack picks up a few more delegates.
It's the "War Economy," stupid!
SUPERDELEGATES SEEN HILLARY HOME ON HER BOOM IN HER ON KITCHEN . WE MUST BE BIGGER AS A PARTY THEM BILL & HILLARY STOP THIS UNDER HAND STUFF UNLESS THINGS ARE GOING TO BE CRAZY LIKE THE CLINTON'S AND WE ALL SEE HOW IS!!!!!!!!!! GOD BLESS THE SUPERDELEGRATES TO FORM THIS PARTY BEFORE MAY 31,2008 AN NO LATHER...

Sorry you have to work on a holiday but SOOO good to have you back! We have missed these updates!

Go Obama!
I'm glad everyone hasn't gone fishing.
Super Delegates have let this go to long...Bill and Hill are spinning lies and draging the Democratic party down.... Obama will become president DESPITE the Democratic party.  Thankfully Obama has a smart polital outreach...
So glad that someone at MSNBC took time off from "fishing" to update the Delegate totals.
THANKS so much!!!

BTW, I have loved "Morning Joe" WITHOUT Joe S.
It would be so nice to have it stay the way it is.
He can be so obnoxious that I just have to turn the channel--often.  Please remove him from the show, or at least have him only come on once in awhile. Please!
Hey!

Glad to see you guys still at the switchboard!

I keep checking back with you, just in case.  And
it paid off!

Can't do without my First Read fix!

Thanks, for all us other political junkies out here
who don't have a life, except for the Dem contest!

another day goes by as billery waits hoping against hope for a make believe sniper to help her out.....
or wait...

is that reffering to a real assasination or a pretend bullet like she remembers from ....

or is it thinking of something in June....

or is it her thinking she is ahead in the popular vote....

Dang... lost my traain of thought...
or is that facts....

I'm in this why????

25 million in debt... is that a 3am phone call from another vendor she is screwing over?

No no i was just a bit tired, its that i'm going to win in a foriegn country, while waiting for a bullet to go obamas way. or maybe he will be like my husband and leave a semen stain somewhre to make my dreams come true...

Give it to me!!!!!! Me !!@! Me!!!!

Lord when will this end??
Out of all the delegates that Obama has acquired, your numbers never change. I beleive he's already at 2025.
Obama now needs only half of the remaining pledged delegates and less than 10 superdelegates to clinch the nomination. Inevitability in action.

Of course Hillary could have her prayer answered and he could be assinated. How sad she viewed that as a reason to remain in the raace. It's even sadder she lied about it afterward. If she was just mentioning races going into June, why mention Kennedy's assination at all. Read what she actually said instead of her spin.
WOO-HOO!!!
The un committed 'superdelegates', must endorse either Sen Obama or Sen Clinton now.

The longer it goes on from this point will only cause more divisions within the Democratic Party.
9 days and counting...9 days before the nomination will finally be won by Obama and we can move forward into the general election. 9 days is not soon enough! Come on Superdelegates...Cast your vote and show your public support...Let's end this nasty campaign!
Obama's website counts 1977 delegates, 49 to go.

I was a delegate to the Hawaii State Democratic Convention this past weekend.

The Aloha State, where people of many different ethnicities actually live together in harmony, is excited to share the aloha spirit with the rest of the United States, and the world, through our native son Barack Obama, the first Hawaiian-born President of the United States of America.

It would really be nice to see one of your journalist report that many voters in Florida turned out in record numbers (homeowners) due to the statewide property tax reform amendment to the constitution pushed by Crist (gay governor).  Aren't you disinfranchising those voters who are not homeowners or did not think it was going to count?  I'm a Clinton supporter but this idea of changing the game rules (mulligan) at the end of the game is ridiculous.  You guys just parrot each other.
