*** Et tu, Scott? The news of Scott McClellan’s new book on President Bush -- first reported by the Politico’s Mike Allen -- guarantees one thing: There is NO CHANCE Bush fixes his perception problems in the public and the media anytime soon. He's a political pariah, pure and simple. In the book, according to reports, McClellan says that Bush “was not open and forthright on Iraq”; that the president sold the war through a "political propaganda campaign"; that he took a permanent campaign approach to governing; and that the White House mishandled Hurricane Katrina, both governmentally and politically. For McCain, the timing of the news of this book couldn’t have been worse. On the very day that the Arizona senator broke with Bush on nuclear proliferation, he not only held a closed-press fundraiser with the president (that produced just one photo-op), but also came news of the McClellan book. Now will come constant cable news chatter about the book, an interview with McClellan himself tomorrow on TODAY, as well as the inevitable questions from the traveling press corps following McCain… Meanwhile, Bush today hits two more fundraisers (in Salt Lake City and Park City, UT) for McCain and the RNC; Romney joins the president at these events.

VIDEO: NBC Political Director Chuck Todd gives his first read on how former White House press secretary Scott McClellan's new book may affect McCain's campaign and previews this weekend's DNC Michigan and Florida compromise.

*** Over the top: As NBC’s Tim Russert reported on Nightly News last night, the Obama campaign will claim a majority of all delegates -- whether it’s 2,026, 2,210, or a number in between -- next Tuesday night or Wednesday morning. According to our sources, Obama's been making calls on the Hill this week (the place where more undeclared superdelegates live than any other in the country) in an attempt to gather the number he needs, probably around 45 supers in order to declare Tuesday night or Wednesday morning. The campaign is hoarding commitments from undeclared superdelegates to hit these magic numbers once the nominating contests come to a close on June 3. The actual choreography, however, hasn't been agreed to yet; it depends on what happens at Saturday’s DNC meeting. Here’s one scenario: Obama announces enough supers on Monday June 2 to bring him within 10 delegates of the new magic number. Then on Tuesday evening, just as the polls close in Montana, Obama thanks that state for putting him over the top as the small state is one the Obama camp is hoping to put in play for the fall. Sure, it's three electoral votes but every EV may matter if he's got to make up for not winning Florida and (maybe) Ohio.

VIDEO: NBC's Tim Russert offers his analysis on where things stand heading into the June 3 primaries.

*** A blueprint for Saturday? Speaking of Saturday's DNC meeting… A packet sent around to members of the DNC Rules and Bylaws Committee has some neutral opinions about the various challenges. One thing folks ought to not miss is the fact that the DNC rules had called for an automatic 50% delegate cut for states that violate the window. The Rules committee went beyond that -- which was within its rights -- and took away ALL of the delegates. Doesn't this provide the blueprint for what's likely to happen on Saturday -- a reinstatement of 50% of the delegates in both states? In fact, if we're interpreting this right, and if the Rules committee follows the letter of the law on this issue, they can't reinstate 100% of the delegates because of the initial violation. For those following the FL/MI fight closely, realize that a Florida compromise seems to be fairly easy to come to; frameworks are being developed as you read. But Michigan is the real riddle. The biggest impediment there are those “uncommitted” delegates; If the Rules committee decides to accept the January primary results then it's not clear, via the DNC charter, that it's within the party's rules to assign uncommitted delegates to Obama. Of course, as multiple members of the Rules committee told NBC News, there's such a thing as "political will," which could trump the DNC charter. Oh, the joys of what we'll be watching on Saturday.

*** Obama’s Auschwitz gaffe: For the first time of this budding general election, the GOP blogosphere was running on all cylinders -- er, microprocessors -- when news began to circulate that Obama's claim that his uncle had helped liberate Auschwitz. The rub: The Soviets, not the Americans, liberated the concentration camp. The Obama camp eventually corrected the misstatement -- the candidate's great uncle helped liberate Buchenwald, not Auschwitz. All in all, it wasn't a big story and wasn't near the gaffe that McCain's earlier Sunni-Shiite one was. If you’re going to make a gaffe, you better make sure it’s more truth than lie. And in this case it was. Yet when you consider Obama's other misstatements or exaggerations (JFK helping to bring his father to the US, Sioux City instead of Sioux Falls, Sunshine, FL instead of Sunrise, FL, 57 states), his campaign has to be careful to remember that these types of stories/narratives can often take lives of their own.

*** Veepstakes watch: Not much movement on the veepstakes front today. Charlie Crist was the first of the McCain BBQ guests to break his silence, but he ducked the question shadowing his potential candidacy when asked about social conservative angst over him. Crist ignored the question on Morning Joe and instead touted his Florida record. Meanwhile, Maureen Dowd does a fictional "vetting Bill Clinton" column that includes a script of Obama and Bill Clinton chatting about his business issues and Bill Clinton eventually relenting on the idea of putting HRC on the ticket. Speaking of veepstakes, turnout for the GOP tournament on MSNBC.com is already higher than in many of those caucus states won by Obama. The closest match-ups so far: Powell v. Crist; Barbour vs. Cox; Thompson v. Petraues; Jeb v. Pence; Romney, Thune, Huckabee, Rice and Sanford are the only candidates garnering 70%+.

*** A super flip: In one of the more bizarre superdelegate moves, a super from the Virgin Islands has switched from Obama to Clinton -- after having originally supported Clinton and then switching to Obama. Kevin Rodriguez had been for Clinton early on, then switched to Obama on May 10 and even put out a statement through the Obama camp lauding the Illinois senator’s ability to “connect with Democrats, Republicans and independents.” The Clinton campaign put out just a one-line statement yesterday afternoon; it didn’t tout him as a switch or provide a statement. First Read was unable to reach Rodriguez last night for comment. With 797 superdelegates, none of whom are bound to anything, this is bound to happen. It’s also a reminder that even if a superdelegate puts out a statement in support of one candidate or another, it doesn’t mean they have to stay put. Obama this morning did pick up two more superdelegates: Colorado party chair Patricia Waak and Guam add-on Vicente "Ben" Pangelinan. The counts: PLEDGED: Obama 1649 to 1500; SUPERDELEGATES: Obama 317.5 to 283.5; EDWARDS PLEDGED: Obama 12 to 0; TOTAL: Obama 1,978.5 to 1,783.5. Obama is now 47.5 delegates away from 2,026.

*** On the trail: Clinton is in South Dakota visiting Mount Rushmore and campaigning in Kyle and Rapid City; McCain holds a town hall in Reno, NV and raises money there before heading to Los Angeles for another fundraiser; and Obama has a town hall at an elementary school in Thornton, CO.

Considering the probabilities of MI & FL regaining part or all of their delegations this weekend, and the probability that Obama will clinch the nomination after MT & SD on Tuesday, does anyone think Clinton will concede next week about this time?  Or will she wait for the supposed onslaught of super delegates for Obama to come out first?  I keep reading that the Obama campaign has a substantial number of super delegates in the hopper ready for release next Wednesday and Thursday.

I am also intrigued by what appears to be a real attempt to pull off a western strategy for Obama, and to pick off a few southern states.  This strategy will be a firewall of sorts if McCain wins Ohio and Florida.  I believe the Obama campaign has a solid electoral map strategy that many have not considered.
There is NO CHANCE Bush fixes his perception problems in the public and the media anytime soon. He's a political pariah, pure and simple.

And this is news to everybody?!

Tucker went too far last night on Morning Joe .. calling Hillary "a trapped cat" and making those noises.
Obama should not be blamed for that.
Sometimes these right-wing republicans (including Pat Buchanan) that you guys at MSNBC put on tv just baffle me.
Buchanan is a RACIST ... read his writings.. read his blogs !

So what? Slow news day.
Hillary Clinton’s comments about assassination in the context of the race for the nomination for president brings to mind the kind of public discussion that was circulating in Birmingham, Alabama, in September, 1963. I was beginning high school in Birmingham’s segregated school system that month. Opening of the schools was delayed as Governor George Wallace and Mayor Albert Boutwell maneuvered to try to prevent the court ordered desegregation of two Birmingham high schools. Public discussion was whipped into a frenzy by the ambitious politicians who talked about violence that might occur if the schools were desegregated.  On Friday, September 13, Wallace announced his plan to run for president.

Two days later, the violence the world will never forget came to Sixteenth Street Baptist Church. The church is across the street from Kelly Ingram Park and was the staging grounds for major civil rights activities, such as the protests led 4 months earlier by Martin Luther King, Jr., and Fred Shuttlesworth, which had resulted in the use of water cannons and police dogs against peacefully protesting children.

During the break between Sunday School and church service, the bomb exploded at Sixteenth Street Baptist Church, killing Denise McNair, Cynthia Wesley, Addie Mae Collins and Carole Robertson, ages 11-14, and injuring others.

George Wallace, who Martin Luther King, Jr., said had “created an atmosphere of violence,” had the rewards of his self-fulfilling prophecy.

Hillary, no thank you.

I just paid $4 a gallon for gas, we're in the middle of a war in the Middle East, John McCain doesn't know the (VERY IMPORTANT) difference between Sunni and Shiite muslims... and the RNC really thinks that I care whether or not Obama's great uncle liberated Buchenwald instead of Auschwitz?
Bush is no Julius Caesar but the C-section on this government must be purged...
Americans have known for far to long that their president is not a crook..but maybe a liar...
War crimes is serious issue that will have play out on a world stage...the sooner the better...AMEN.
What a sorry coward.  Of course that's most of Bush's people.  McClellan obviously is still only considering himself by seeking profits from material he should give to Americans FREE via the internet or freely giving it to news organizations.  Don't buy his book.  Demand answers to the lies from our joke of a commander in chief and his entire administration.
We got it...mccain can be clueless about the enemy we face in iraq and iran but obama better not misspeak on concentration camps from 60 years ago...gotcha reprehensibles...its kind of like

Prying into the terri schiavo affair was good...knowing anything about mark foley diddling youngsters in the halls of congress was bad...you republicans are corrupt and ignorant..you really are
FYI THERE IS ANOTHER DLEGATE FOR OBAMA THAT YOU MISSED. IT is Oregan Dem Party Chair Meredith Wood Smith.
Bush lied about the Iraq war and utilized it as a ampaign theme for reelection. McCain backs Bush on 95% of all issues.  How does McCain explain how he would do things differently.  Also, since it is clear the war was one of convenience and it caused great harm how can McCain imply anyone is a coward for " surrendering" in Iraq.  It is clear the only groups that profited were the firms and lobbyist who supported the Republican party many who back McCain.  A vote for him is a vote for the continuance of a third term of Bush.
Now that Scott McClellan’s book has become public, let's watch how fast McFossil tries to move away from his buddy, Bush. Does Mccain think he's fooling ANYONE with this nonsense of having Bush raise money, but he doesn't want to be seen in public with him? And those of you supprting this creep....if you want to go into ANOTHER war with (this time) Iran, then go ahead and keep touting his "war" experience. Just because you're a POW doesn't mean you SHOULD be making decisions concerning the safety of our military personnel. As a matter of face, I think it mean that you SHOULDN'T be making those decisions. HOW can he possibly be RIGHT after being tortured? The man has GOT to have some mental problems. It's a fact. Unless you believe Bush's administration and think that post traumatic stress syndrome is just like having played football. No more serious than that. WHY do they say THAT? So they don't have to take care of these veterans when they return. That's a leader for you.....send you off to where you might be killed for NOTHING, then leave you to hang out there by yourself and deal with it. The man is a complete idiot and should NOT entertain the Presdiency, let alone be elected to it. If you're happy with the economic situation and the fact that over 4,000 young people have lost their lives for NOTHING, then go ahead and cast your vote his way. The rest of us will be voting for change. Obama '08.
Who is this superdelegate from the Virgin Islands?  The DNC should strip him of his SD status on Saturday.  I could care less which candidate he supports but pick a side man...Somebody's got to get an interview with this flip-flopper...
Good on Scott McClellan!  It appears he figured out what many already knew, and what all of us know now.
In a year when this was the Democrat's election to lose, it is really scary that we will most likely have a nominee that can only win by experimenting with a new electoral college strategy that has never ever before placed a democrat in the white house.  Whereas with Clinton, we had a pretty sure bet with the tried and true strategy of winning the trifecta of Ohio, PA, and Florida, and perhaps, throwing in a few southern states of her own, such as Arkansas and Kentucky.

Oh well, see y'all in 2012.
"Yet when you consider Obama's other misstatements or exaggerations (JFK helping to bring his father to the US, Sioux City instead of Sioux Falls, Sunshine, FL instead of Sunrise, FL, 57 states), his campaign has to be careful to remember that these types of stories/narratives can often take lives of their own."

Wow - you know you are running one HELL of a campaign when the media is putting the mispronunciation of city names in a list a "gaffes". lol

When Senator Obama makes a mistake, he admits it!
No blaming a lack of sleep or a grand conspiracy - how refreshing!

Obama '08/'12
The Rub is Michigan.
Its going to be Ugly. I keep thinking the DNC really screwed this up. there was no way they were not going to count two big states. Yet they went down that path and now no matter what solution they come too some group will be pissed.
How do you allocate the undecided votes? Sure some were Obamas but some were also Edwards, then how about all the voters that crossed over to the GOP’s primary?
Like I said Ugly.
What I'm wondering about the McClellan book, is whether anyone is TRULY surprised by any of the content.  I guess I'll wait to hear more on that...sounds like a lot of things we strongly suspected.
They are reporting on another blog that DNC Kevin Rodrigeuz (VI) has switched again! He is back with Clinton. What is up with this guy? Makes you wonder what Clinton said to him on a call last night! Hmmmm
Oregon state chair just endorsed Obama.
Here's hoping this can finally move forward on Tuesday or Wednesday...am ready for the "real" fight.
They have to seat delagates for FLA and Mich. If it is 50% by the rules, then follow the rules. Do not assume that uncommitted  voters in Mich are for Obama. I checked the dictionary, under the word uncommitted there is no mention of Obama. Bottom line is Obama's electoral map does not add up. He cannot win the big swing states. He may challenge in smaller western states, with less electoral votes, but that will not be enough. As far as his Auschwitz gaffe. It is amazing to me how the media is so quick to defend him. His opponents would have been destroyed by such a mistake. That is all it was. A feeble attempt to connect to average folks and the jewish community. He stumbled through the story as if he were making it up or trying to remember the way it was written without a teleprompter. I would hope that a candidate for President would have a better grasp on history. When I heard the comment, I immediately thought "Was his uncle Russian"
NEWS FLASH!

In a stunning move this morning, Hillary Clinton
has declared herself President of the United States!

She has cancelled all remaining primary contests and
cancelled the November general election.

"It's clearly what The People want," she cackled, as
she immediately named Barack Obama ambassador to
Kenya, and John McCain ambassador to Vietnam.  Her
news conference was briefly interupted while she was
being fitted for a straightjacket.  Bill Clinton,
reached at the Little Rock Playboy Club, had no comment.
Poor Hillary, Scott McClellan has now stolen the news for the next few days. Any attempt from her camp will fall on deaf ear's for several days(that's a good thing).Wolfie this morning touting selected polls showing Hillary doing better than Barack. Hmmm, was'nt That the same thing American voter's we're force fed several month's before the Primary season started, Hillary the inevitable nominee(I will be the Democratic nominee-Katy Curic interveiw) with a 5 million point lead in All the National Poll's. See where that line of s--t got them. Less than 1 week away from this Nonsense put out from the Clinton campaign coming to an end, The era of Bush-Clinton-Bush-Clinton, coming to an End. Not with a Bang, but with a thud ! How fitting that standing by her man, got her Nowhere, where she thought she'd be, the 1st Woman President!

"Delusional Thinking By Common Sense American's Is Over"

Barack Obama the POTUS
Considering the probabilities of MI & FL regaining part or all of their delegations this weekend, and the probability that Obama will clinch the nomination after MT & SD on Tuesday, does anyone think Clinton will concede next week about this time?  Or will she wait for the supposed onslaught of super delegates for Obama to come out first?
Chuck, NY (Sent Wednesday, May 28, 2008 9:36 AM)

She's not going to quit till the convention, and even after that she'll continue to prove she's nothing but a spiteful, vengeful sore loser.

It's a shame.  She's proven a woman can be tough enough and smart enough to be President.  Too bad she hasn't shown that she can be a gracious loser as well.  Edwards showed us how you can put the party and country ahead of your own ambitions, and how to bow out gracefully.  Hillary has shown nothing but the opposite of that, and in my opinion, has poisoned the waters for the next woman to try.
And just who needed McClellan's book to tell them these reprehensible facts? Certainly not those of us on this thread.
Election day in November is the only time that the Republican Party will hear your dissatisfaction with the Bush administration.

The Republicans refused to listen when you cried out to not send our young sons and daughters to die and suffer in iraq.

Make the Republicans understand that Bush's heir apparent is unaccepatable.

Vote for Barack Obama.
McCain was talking about sunni elements in iran helping al queda not the government.  McCain has talked about in many hearings how the government in iran is shiite and how al queda is sunni.  McCain is on record saying this.  Obama mixed up sunni shiite in a hearing as well but the media was silent on this.  Obama mixed up who were the special groups in iraq.  He mixed up iran and iraq.  McCain has been to Iraq 8 times.  He had just been breifed by a general about al queda and lost his train of thought.  For anyone to say he doesn't know iran is lead by shiites is a lie.
And with your 'help' First Read, you will make sure any gaffes Obama makes will have a life of their own!

It is beyond me why so many consider MSNBC pro Obama, when every time there is a gaffe or someone comes out of the woodwork, you play videos of the offence over and over again or write provocative journals whether they be small missteps, big missteps, whatever.

Why dont you go after McCain for his many stupid errors as most of them are more germane to the election of a competent individual than what Obama has said.
It's all over! Obama will announce his victory next Tuesday and we can FINALLY move on to the general election. The funny thing is, Hillary threw away her only bargaining chip, which was her exiting the race before the finish. But since she has forced Obama to take it all the way to the end, then he will have beaten her straight up, and she will have no more leverage. So that means we can finally put this 'dream ticket' idea to rest - good riddance!
These libs kill me. Making fun of Hillary is sexism, making fun of B. Hussein Obama is racism, but McCain is over 70 so his age is far game. I can't wait 'til you people get that old. Wait, I hope you don't!
What?  No mention of McFlipflop's continuing headaches with lobbyists?

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/24844889

Now it's Phil Gramm, general co-chair of McFlipflop's campaign and economic advisor (something Johnny needs since he knows SOOOOO much about the economy) who has been working as a lobbyist for Swiss bank UBS to help fight legislation that would have helped families in the mortgage crisis.

Yeah, John, you're a "maverick", alright.
McClellan...let me see?  Why when anyone comes out they are demonized.  Some people are not filthy dogs that will sell their souls to the devil for a position.

We all knew this Administration is as phony as a $4 dollar bill, so what now?  Everyone else have written books, so why can't he?

McClellan saying that this war was a big lie and political propaganda is such a big shock. Too whom! Only if you live under a rock and  20% of the ignorant masses that believes everything that Fox News tells you spun thru right wing talking points. Is McClellan all of a sudden finding out that he has a conscious? Or more likely he is cashing in early with a head start so other enabling and lying co-conpirators come out of the muck and slime called the Bush Administation.
Scott McClellan is probably going to come under some serious fire from both the right and the left regarding his new book; Republicans will attack him for betrayal, while Democrats will question why he continued to work for an administration he believed was misleading the American people.  It'll be interesting to see how the White House itself responds...  Speaking of loyalty, check out the article below for some interesting ideas on this:

http://www.strangelegacy.com/2008/05/27/et-tu-brute-lessons-on-loyalty-and-leadership/
"Kevin Rodriguez .... With 797 superdelegates, none of whom are bound to anything, this is bound to happen. It’s also a reminder that even if a superdelegate puts out a statement in support of one candidate or another, it doesn’t mean they have to stay put."

This is why the superdelegates should wait until all the contests are finished.  Give buyer's remorse a chance to sink in once ALL the factors are weighed.

It's too bad the pledged delegates don't have recourse to these maneuvers.  Considering the bizarre and circuitous Dem Party rules that exist now, I can't imagine that adding one more would be any problem.

Three words for G.W., Indict, Impeach, Imprison.
Oh yeah...what is up with Clinton's buddy Karl Rove and his Executive Priviledge rights that he has no claim to?
Is any one surprised about the contents of McClennan's book?  It will be filled with all we have suspected for a long time.
Next should be the question, can we get some of the main characters indicated for a laundry list of offences against the American people?
In a year when this was the Democrat's election to lose, it is really scary that we will most likely have a nominee that can only win by experimenting with a new electoral college strategy that has never ever before placed a democrat in the white house.  Whereas with Clinton, we had a pretty sure bet with the tried and true strategy of winning the trifecta of Ohio, PA, and Florida, and perhaps, throwing in a few southern states of her own, such as Arkansas and Kentucky.

Oh well, see y'all in 2012.
Pat Huntington NY (Sent Wednesday, May 28, 2008 9:50 AM)

-------------------------------------------------

Insanity is defined as doing the same exact thing over and over again and each time expecting a different result.

Pat, the Clinton electoral map is actually Karl Rove's.  It's the "tried and true" electoral map that was played out in 2000 and 2004.  How'd that work out for the Democratic Party?
Unlike California Indy, I have no interest in seeing any coverage on the VI superdelegate flopper.  For all I know, maybe he wants his five minutes of fame.  But not from me.  He can vote how he likes, but clearly to go back and forth with the wind makes me think he shouldn't be overriding the votes of "the people" anyway.  But whatever.
Will the  delegates from states 51 - 57 be seated? Will the Decemberists be opening the convention with the playing of the Soviet National Anthem?
The Bush admin, has been lieing to us for seven years now, deciving us as to what was really going on in Iraq. The repubs play book is a lot like Hillys.Try to fool as many as you can, the rest lie thur your teeth. The McBush/McCain plan is to stay the coarse,we have fool alot,we can scare alot,we can pander to the base, while the war just keeps rolling along at 5000$ a second.while gas prices are Anyone remember the( energy summit)and how hard the repubs fought to keep any one from knowing what Darth and the BIG OIL guys had to talk about,I have to belive that this whole gas price thing was planned and pulled off by the Bush team. And all the privite companys that have made a mint off our unplanned Bush/McCain/Clinton war.
More Obama gaffes:  How about Obama thinking the leader of Canada is the president of Canada.  Canada has been under parliamentary system for 140 years. The leader of Canada is the prime minister of Canada.  Canada is our neighbor.  That gaffe got no media attention.  How about Clinton calling the prime minister of new zealand helen clarke the former prime minister.  How about saying 10,000 people died in a tornado in Kansas.  How about 57 states.
Pure hypocrisy. McCain is most qualified and most experianced amongst those running- that is all that matters really. The news about Bush is not news. The  Scott McCellen person was not in the meetings when decisions were made per Carl Rove- and now he is resentful. BLAH BLAH BLAH. Who cares.
Why doesn't Bush spend the last few months he has in office (thank God) trying to persuade his friends in the oil business to help with bringing the cost of fuel down to where we Americans can afford?  Let's see- the oil cronies got him and office and now gas is over $4!!!  Why isn't the media screaming about the energy report that Cheney won't release???  Sorry guys- this administration had this increase in oil planned years ago.
Chuck in NY.
Obama has no choice but to spend the remaining part of the race out west attempting to sell his "new electoral map" fiction.  He knows he won't get Florida, and Michigan is too close to call.

And without Florida, he won't get the White House no matter who he picks as veep, even Hillary I'm afraid.  Those Dems are too ticked off at him and at Howard Dean for not resolving this in February.   I don't blame them.
Thank you Scott McClellan . finally a chink in the armor at the bubba White House. they could not cover up or stop this one like they have Rove, etc.I just hope the "fair and balanced" FIX News (FoxNews-spin)hannity/o'reilly) crowd, including Dr.shopping -pill popping Limbaugh, will report this for what it is. but do not hold your breath.  What a shame that our young men and women in service are lied to as well. This president must have the deaths, injuries and sky rocketing costs of this war on his conscious and hands. By the way, anyone notice if Cindy McCain has released her tax records? Why not, Cindy? The Clinton's and Obama's have and right wingers harped and harped until they did...Nov 4th could not come sooner....
If the folks in Camp Clinton think the DNC and Superdelegates are going to just magically "give" the nomination to Sen. Clinton, they are seriously delusional. Yet that's exactly what Howard Wolfson was blabbering this morning on "Morning Joe." The scary thing is that he sounded as if he really believed it.
