Obama health summary

Posted: Thursday, May 29, 2008 12:04 PM by Domenico Montanaro

From NBC's Mark Murray and Domenico Montanaro
The Obama campaign has released a summary of Obama's health records. This comes almost a week after McCain made his health records available to a handful of reporters.

Obama's physician writes that Obama's biggest health risks are his history of smoking and a family history of cancer.

"In short, his examination showed him to be in excellent health," Dr. David L. Scheiner writes. "Senator Barack Obama is in overall good physical and mental health needed to maintain the resiliency required in the Office of President."

Here's the full letter:

DAVID L. SCHEINER, M.D.
Hyde Park Associates in Medicine, Ltd.
1515 East 52nd Place, Chicago, IL 60615

To Whom It May Concern:

I am David L. Scheiner, a board certified general internist licensed to practice in the State of Illinois. I am on staff at the University of Chicago Hospitals and Rush University Medical Center. I have been Senator Barack Obama's primary care physician since March 23, 1987. The following is a summary of his medical records for the past 21 years.

During that period of time, Senator Obama has been in excellent health. He has been seen regularly for medical checkups and various minor problems such as upper respiratory infections, skin rashes and minor injuries.

His family history is pertinent for his mother's death from ovarian cancer and grandfather who died of prostate cancer. His own history included intermittent cigarette smoking. He has quit this practice on several occasions and is currently using Nicorette gum with success.

Senator Obama's last medical checkup was on January 15, 2007; he had no complaints. He exercised regularly often jogging three miles. His diet was balanced with good intake of roughage and fluids. A complete review of systems was unremarkable. On physical examination, his blood pressure was 90/60 and pulse 60/minute. His build was lean and muscular with no excess body fat. His physical examination was completely normal.

Laboratory studies included triglycerides of 44(normal under 150), cholesterol 173 (normal under 200), HDL 68 (normal over 40), and LDL 96 (normal under 130). Chem 24, urinalysis and CBC were normal, PSA was 0.6, very good. An EKG was normal.

In short, his examination showed him to be in excellent health. Senator Barack Obama is in overall good physical and mental health needed to maintain the resiliency required in the Office of President.

Sincerely,
David L. Scheiner, M.D.

The Rise and Fall of a 200+ Year Old Democracy
(Gingrich’s Version of Contract with America)

We as a country cannot afford to lose Ted Kennedy at this point in time, or Robt. Bryd - even if he is getting old.  They understand Congress's role as a co-equal branch.  Gingrich, Tom DeLay and their cronies distorted Congress’s role, by making the highest Republican office holders (Gingrich, DeLay and then Bush and Cheney), the crowned heads of the Republican party.  All balance and equilibrium were removed from our government at that time.  Everything, including the wars, became a photo op.  Having just come from back from Italy a friend told me that in Europe -  and even in Italy with its unstable national gov't - give their people a quality of life that Americans cannot even dream about.  He found that most Italians that he met felt somewhat sorry for America, but really believed that America was irrelevant to their lives--more like the third world countries of South America.  Even the travel ads on TV in Italy were from middle Eastern countries like Dubai, Qatar or Albania, India, Croatia and Turkey.

This is all so sad  because we as proud Americans still believe we hold some special position in this world.  We don’t seem to any more.

Maybe we can't given how much $$ America is spending per week on this war.

We cannot afford another Republican Administration with Fox News as their propaganda machine. These are people in powerful positions, but they are stupid -

which as we have seen - make them very dangerous.

Answerable to no one.

{Sean Hannity didn’t get his job @ Fox News because he was smart - he got it because he was a good debater in school}. And if you listen to him, you realize right away that he’s just another right wing talking head with no substance.

Makes for good tv I guess, regardless of the consequences.

Mary Matalin saying last night that Scott McClellan has to go through life as a “liar” now. Mary Matalin -the same woman who worked for one of the most devious corrupt lying SOB’s our government has ever seen - Dick Cheney.

So long Newt. So long Republican Party.
OBAMA '08 and '12
I noticed that John McBush did not have that mental health certifacation in his medical records.Lets see a young man that plays basketball or a Old Yells At Clouds.
I hope Barack gives up Smoking. McSame is nervous now because Obama has a clean bill of health. No health problems what so ever. Its going to be seen that McCain is too old, stands the possibility of having his cancer come back and losing his memory. Not looking good for McCain.
Yeah, he's a healthy hunk 'o man!
Two down, one to go ...

No matter which metric you use 2026 or higher, HRC still needs over 86% of ALL of the remaining delegates to secure the nomination.

It's time to join together to work towards electing a Democratic President with a workable Democratic majority in both the House and the Senate.

This time do something smart and vote for your wallet, vote for the economy, vote for the environment, vote for jobs.

Vote for the smartest candidate in the race, a real leader (and no that's not McCain -- not by a long shot)

Vote Democratic 2008 -- don't let the corporations and their Republican stooges win again.
Geez, wouldn't you hate that?  Having your most  personal info. published?  I don't know how any of the candidates stand it.
Nobody cares about Hillary Huckabee's medical records, since she won't EVER be president, HA-HA!!!
Besides, thanks to her running for office, the public knows WAY MORE than we ever thought we knew (or needed to know) about her & Bill ... their "legacy" is now in the toilet ... OBAMA FOREVER & EVER
How in the world can anyone quite smoking while running for president? That might be more impressive than his ability at writing essays while in kindergarten.
Senator Obama,

Please stay off the fire sticks, and on that blessed gum.

We love you, and don't want to lose you.

Think of lovely Michelle, your beautiful baby girls, and your soon to be constituents, from the 57 states,(hee hee), of the United States Of America, G-D Willing. Amen.
Obama should debate McCain Survivor style.  3 months on an island and the first guy to quit or croak loses!
I look at the three candidates and I see, a mean little troll, a wicked witch and a thoughtful wizard.  I'm not absolutely sure what we'd get with the wizard but I do know what we'd get with the troll or the witch. Therefore, I'm cheering for the wizard.
Older white woman for Obama
Barack Obama: Ready to report for the duties of the President of the United States.
Great to know you are both phyically and mentally ready to become the next president of the US of A....
maybe with all that resilience  he could have at least one meeting with nato partners to help Afganistan, think maybe?Hillary would only need one reason to be pres. Women can do more than one thing at a time.We are multitaskers. Obama is in a crunch cause he has to look like he is the nom. and so lets states go on there own figures he doesnt need them.I would think if he is so careing he would have given up his seat on committee so some thing could have been done all this time. Use discard and throw out. Obamas way to ease his ego with power.Blacks fall in line than to busy canpaigning. He toutes his money but how many states did he outspend Hillary??Only to lose btw.Well glad to hear he is well and hope he keeps track of that cancer. I say that not mean but as a survivor saying really needs to do that.
What about his cocaine use? Any residual affects from that? Flashbacks, psychotic events, memory loss, paranoia?
Excellent news for Senator Obama.  Advice: eat more foods with Vit A for the lung infections(carrots, tomatoes, watermelon) These help with my asthma.
My only health concern is if he goes to Iraq.  I dont trust McCain or Clinton anymore and I feel that it would be easy for either of them to orchestrate something bad happening to Barack at the hands of an Iraqi or Iranian.
it is good to talk about health, but caution must be made not to demonise those with conditions  that may just be unfortunate to their lives.
Um, this really is too much information, but I'm glad Obama is in such good health. His blood pressure and triglyceride count are remarkably low. (And no excess body fat? I wish I could say the same!)

Maybe his struggle with quitting smoking will help others quit too.

Suddenly, I feel like doing a little walking...
Great news....for our Next President for the next 8 years.  God bless.
WHAT ABOUT HILLARY?

WE NEED TO SEE A LETTER FROM HER PSYCHIATRIST, SINCE SHE IS ACTING SO DELUSIONAL & OUT-OF-TOUCH-FROM-REALITY.
------------------------------------------------------
my god, i'm 46 and i wish i was in that good of health. his blood pressure is great, and he has not excesive body fat. now that is a health man.
Sad about his mother and grandfather.  His families story is similar to many citizens of this country. Many have lost someone to some form of illness.

I'll say, he is a lean, humbled and gracious, fighting machine.

This draws a sharp contrast to Senator McCain's medical history.  In a report on CNN by Dr. Gupta we saw first hand the type of highly aggresive measures takin to keep Sen. McCain alive.  Extracting the tumor and lymphnodes in McCains face and neck.  McCain isn't in great health by any means..his 'vetted' records  that were recently released don't tell the whole story.  I am more concerned with McCain's mental health...considering his propensity for out bursts and fits of anger.
Let's see, do we want a healthy YOUNG man in office, or a 72 year old waiting for the other shoe to drop?
Well, that are no surprises here.

McCain is the one with something to hide. There must be something hidden in his record for him to allow only some reporters to look at it for a couple of hours on a Friday afternoon just before Memorial day weekend.

Sounds fishy to me. And the fact that his father died at 70 does not help since male usually die younger than female anyway so the fact that his mother is still alive does not mean squat.

He actually looks older than his beautiful mother when I saw them together. His stiffness didn't help when his mother seems more supple than he is.

As a CEO I would NOT hire a person who is older than 70 years old no matter what so the GOP should choose somebody else during their convention. Ron Paul comes into mind. He would be a great president.
Blood pressure of 90/60?  No wonder Obama's so cool, calm and collected.  That is some really low blood pressure.
