So what happens next?

Posted: Saturday, May 31, 2008 2:55 PM by Mark Murray

From NBC's Mark Murray
Now that all these presentations have been made, the Rules and Bylaws committee members will now go to a private lunch here inside the hotel. Once they return -- at 4:15 pm ET -- debate will occur on Florida and Michigan.

They'd better eat lite.
What happens AFTER the debate?  Do they vote on it right away?  In public?  Or what?
DONOT COUNT FLORIDA OR MICHIGAN.
RULE BREAKER
msnbc just blew it.  I saw Donna Brazil speaking but you were doing commentary instead of broadcasting her comments.  I had to switch networks to hear her and she had the most riveting exchange of the whole morning.
Phew a lunch break... Great work so far hosts and staff.
I hope Ickes cleans the spinach out of his teeth before he comes back to spit more nonsense all over everybody.
The blatant Clinton bias in questioning and talking points has sickened me. If there was at least some sort of fairness that they TRIED to show I would have welcomed any agreement that came out of this. However, after watching the meeting for more than 3 hours I am disappointed by the extreme partisanship and divisiveness that appears to be not only within the voters but within the RBC themselves.
How could they possible have an appetite?

I'm one anxious observer, with a permanent note in my belly.
What happens next? The voters get screwed.
listening to chris, andrea and chuck, where chuck briefly touched upon the role of donna brazile, i think they over looked 2 points one she basically told the clinton camp that they were cheating and sen. levin told icky that there were other ways to end this when he (icky) insisted upon talking about the credentials commite.
I was not aware that the Republican-controlled Florida legislature set the early primary date.  If this is true, then I believe that the actions of Howard Dean and a lot of the members of the Rules Committee have ill-served Democrats across this country.  They should protect their voters and seat all delegates with full votes.  It is the right thing to do.
OK Let's all take a nice little luncheon break.

We can eat, and read posts.
What's next is filing a case in district court. I've seen more people stomping on the Constitution then I've witnessed today.
The man continues to impress. Go for it Obama!

During a fund-raiser in Denver, Obama — a former constitutional law professor at the University of Chicago Law School — was asked what he hoped to accomplish during his first 100 days in office.

“I would call my attorney general in and review every single executive order issued by George Bush and overturn those laws or executive decisions that I feel violate the constitution,” said Obama

I feel that the right thing to do is not to count anything from either state because they did break the rules knowing this would be the result.  However on a personal level I hope it all goes Clinton's way because that would be one less thing for her to whine about after she loses the primary and I am so tired of hearing her complain about everyone and everything except herself
If you think what the Democrats did in front of the cameras was a travesty, just wait until these lizards get behind closed doors.
Clinton will allow her surrogates to run to the credentials committee to do her dirty work. She wants it all.
Btw; anybody can beat McCain. Therefore, she has no argument.
So what happens next?
This is all irrelevant. Hillary is determined to take her nomination fight to the convention. Stop fooling yourselves. She will never agree to any rational proposal because she needs an issue (no matter how faked) to hang her fight on to. She is waiting for something bad to happen to Obama's chances between now and the convention and who knows maybe beyond the convention until November.
I do not understand the flap over Florida and Michigan delegates in the Democratic Party.

The rules were clearly defined. All candidates agreed with the rules, in advance. The penalty for not following the rules was clearly defined.

This is a clear case of someone losing and trying to change the rules in the middle of the game.

Democrats should stop being politically correct and just follow the rules.

Inconsistency in enforcing their own party rules. Can we trust them? I think not.
This is riveting. It is history in the making. It is time for the rules around State party primary times to be overhauled. New Hampshire has no right to always go first, except what they, in their Constitution, have deemed themselves! It is time the states hold primaries on a rotating basis with each general election year.
Tell Pat Buchanan to go home. When he speaks, he makes no sense. Florida has been decided but Michigan may go on until tomorrow. Either way, Hillary has lost. Obama won't make her his V.P., she has made so many enemies in the senate that she won't run for re-election and forgot being the Party Leader.

She could run for sanitation worker when she's back in NY.
ARE THEY EATING THE VOTES AT LUNCH?
The Florida compromise is a done deal! 50-50 is the fairest deal for Michigan.

The Clintons compared Obama's SC victory with Jesse Jackson's. But I'm surprised no one (even folks in the media) mentioned the fact that Jesse Jackson also won Michigan in 1988.

In fact, Obama has won all the states that Jesse Jackson won in 1984 and 1988 with the exception of Puerto Rico (yet to vote) and Michigan (where they were prevented from campaigning). If Obama was had campaigned in Michigan, it's more likely than not, that he could've won Michigan. Which is why the Obama campaign is resisting any MI compromise that disadvantages them.
I've HEARD about a new compromise being floated (source is low level staffers, but reliable):  Seat full FL delegation at 50% voting strength (half vote each) and then seat full MI delegation according to primary results but at 1/3 voting strength.  This nets Clinton 6 delegates (24-18) out of MI, not counting supers.  That would give Clinton a net of 25 minus 5 or 6 out of FL Edwards delegates, plus 6 or 8 out of supers.  So, a net net of about 25.  Have you heard about this?
I'm a little frustrated that Hillary Clinton's campaign is getting away with saying that she is winning the popular vote or that more people have voted for her.

She is not counting the caucas states and the political pundits are not pointing out that fact.  Let's face it if we are talking about making sure that everyone is represented then we can not continue to talk about a popular vote total that doesn't take caucas states into account.

I'm from the state of Alaska (a caucas state).  My state's results need to be included.
Does White Smoke signal that a compromise has been reached?
The world is watching, this is very embarrassing. When it's all said and done someone is going to be disappointed my money is on the black guy.
Just listened to Wolfson, I am completly convinced beyond any reasonable doubt that HRC and her staff and her supporters are DOGS======FLAT OUT DIRTBAG DOGS.GO AWAY NOW BEFORE WE MAKE YOU WISH YOU HAD GONE AWAY.HRC CRIED IN NH, THAT WAS NOTHING COMPARED WITH THE RIVER YOU'LL BE CRYING IF YOU DON'T END THIS NOW.  I'M A 59 YEAR OLD WHITE WOMEN NOT AFRAID TO TAKE YOU AND YOUR IDIOT SUPPORTS ON. I APPEAL TO ALL WOMEN OUT THERE TO START CALLING HRC ON HER SHIT. WOMEN IT.S UP TO YOU NOW.
