Hillary's Puerto Rican caravan

Posted: Saturday, May 31, 2008 4:40 PM by Mark Murray

From NBC/NJ's Mike Memoli
BAYAMÓN, PR -- While the DNC meeting over the fate of Florida and Michigan goes on in the nation's capital, Hillary Clinton is now in her third hour of an old-fashioned Puerto Rican caravan, winding her way through the streets to rally as many supporters as she can before tomorrow's primary.

It's get-out-the-vote like we haven't seen in the States, as the campaign now tells us the entourage has swelled from the dozen cars that gathered in Cataño to nearly 300 going through the outskirts of San Juan.

"This is a very traditional way of campaigning in Puerto Rico," said Kenneth McClintock, president of the Puerto Rico Senate and a co-chair of Clinton's campaign here. "We know it's not done in the states. But Hillary is learning to campaign borriqua-style."

In front is a pickup truck outfitted with several very loud loudspeakers, playing a rotation of a half dozen songs, including one by Ricky Martin and another original number that makes the case for the New York senator to a reggaeton beat. A woman also repeatedly announcing, "Aqui está la grande caravana" coming through the neighborhood for "Hillary! Hillary Clinton, la proxima y segura presidenta." She also urges voters to get out tomorrow.

Following behind is a flatbed truck transporting as many as 40 cameramen, photographers, and reporters -- all watching Clinton's every move in her pickup. She's joined by her Puerto Rico co-chairmen, including McClintock, waving and smiling and offering thumbs up to those who quickly run to the side of the road to catch a glimpse.

Occasionally, we pass through a neighborhood where some signal a thumbs down. But most wave back excitedly, and others slow down driving the other direction to grab a cell phone picture. And Clinton has remained outside for all but 10 minutes of the ride, even during a quick tropical shower.

"It's a way that you can see a lot of people in a relatively short period of time and cover a lot of territory," McClintock said, adding that he has seen far fewer negative reactions than usually par for the course. "She's exhilarated."

Clinton just made a quick pit stop at a local restaurant. On her way out, she was asked if she had heard any updates on the proceedings in Washington. Clinton offered no answer, preferring to resume the caravan.

blow those kisses Hillary to all the FALN  terrorists your husband pardoned.... no wonder Puerto Rico loves you.
What good does it do get popular votes, lose the nomination, and go down in American  history as the worst, polarizing,  female candidate   in USA history ; who  set  the female movement back to the Stone Age

Since there is no fair way to a flawed MI primary; it is fair for 64-64 split. Simply because HRC is not a fair nominee by saying uncommitted is a fair ZERO. Her campaign is not fair to honor a voluntary signed pledge, renege, excite your base; then turn around blame your opponent  for playing fairly.
She can’t have it all.
THIS A JOKE; HE VOLUNTARY REDREW BECAUSE HE LIKE HER SIGNED THE PLEDGE
Btw:anybody can beat McCain. Therefore, she has no argument.
It's official.

Hillary Imelda Evita Clinton, is a world class loser.
Does it strike anyone else as odd that Puerto Rico has more delegates than Montana and South Dakota combined?

Is this b/c Montana and South Dakota aren't traditionally Democratic states?  Either way I find it odd that a territory has more influence on the presidential race than a state let alone two states combined.

Obama '08
Ok. For real though. This is not important. Puerto Ricans do that everyday.

Why do I get this ludicrous mental vision-
Hillary borrigua-ing away for votes that don't count
 while "Rome" burns?
How many pina coladas did she have? Do most of the Puerto Ricans who speak mostly Spanish understand that Hillary is one of the most lying polarizing figures in the mainland, USA territories, and contintenal USA?
Her husband pardoned the FLC not her. Most Puerto Ricans don’t want statehood

Shades of Evita Perone!!
Way to go Clinton;  make sure you use up EVERY drop of oil & gasoline that you can so these people run out that much sooner!!!  We don't need to conserve & ration it!  Just burn it all up - like you've done to the Democratic party AND the "scorched Earth" campaign you've been running!!!  Burn it ALL up!!!
Hey Chuck. Why don't you stop acting like super delegates are set in stone and can't change their mind. You keep talking like it's over but it's actually NOT. You are just suppressing votes with your pro-Obama talking points. You never argue with passion the Obama lines and with Hillary you always say what you think her path is but then you always ALWAYS shoot it down. I thought you weren't suppose to have "opinions" like your friends Matthews and Olbermann. How about just telling the options for both candidates and keep your Hillary hatred to a minimum
PUERTO RICO who and they mater how? Last I checked they haven't become one of the USA states so Hillary spend all your time there and watch come Tuesday when Oboma is the nominee.

Thank you Lord that we will no longer have to see you Mrs.Clinton. I voted for your Husband 2 times but you i will never vote for you are to Scary. psychopath
Makes perfet sense, run a great campaign on an island in the middle of the ocean where the people can't even vote n the general election. Meanwhile, South Dakota and Montana can just pound sand. Stop this crazy nonsense, create the Obama-Clinton ticket for the fall and kick some war mongering republican butts. Obama for President.
I bet you are a sight, Hillary, after the rain storm.  But, that doesn't bother you.  I hope you are wearing waterproof makeup.
I will post this since MSNBC was more interested in hearing their own commentary than actually allowing us to watch the proceedings.

She should stay in PR.  They like her better over therre.
Third world style campaigning is quite appropriate for the candidate who wants to claim "victory" in an "election" where NONE of her major opponents were even on the ballot.

... or maybe what she's doing is more like a Russian May Day parade?  The "winning" candidates there run unopposed too.
Do Puerto Ricans know she is loco?
These proceedings will certainly inspire a new HBO movie called 'Retard'. Helen Thomas will play Hillary. Rev. Wright will play Obama.
Hillary migrate over their and become Governor.  Thahat the only way you are going to run a country.
Blah Blah Blah, what a yawn. rally all you wanted Hillary it won't change the numbers.
as if it matters... bye bye Hills... it's been a trip... no more free peanuts!
That's all you get from the Obamanuts is that Ickes should be quiet, Hillary should shutup, and split the votes!! Here's some news for you Obamanuts, you shutup!! You go home and be quiet! We're counting all the votes! You've run one of the most racist and sexist campaigns ever and America is sick of you people. Yes, I voted for Hillary, but never in a million years will I vote for your sorry excuse of a candidate! And I'm not alone.
This whole fiasco the Clinton has caused is making the dems look silly. How can a primary pronounced not to count suddenly have merit? Worse if there's only 1 person on the ballot?

To argue publically within the party so partisanly does not make me believe Obama will be changing anything in Washington.
Perhaps Hillary should stay in PR after she loses the nomination. Who knows, she could become the El Presideante of the Carribean. At least she will be President of something.
Michigan and Florida should not be given to her just because she whines and lies about it. She agreed to not run in both states and the candidates were suppose to remove their names. She was the only one that did not and she should not be rewarded for being slippery. Florida and Michigan should be ashamed of trying to "sheeny hocker" the votes for her. Obama played by the rules and now he is getting "skewered".
Go Obama!
By the way, I like woman...but not her or Monica's boyfriend.
Here's a plan. Why not take away Floridas and Michigans first round draft choices?
Two very big problems with Hillary's arguments that she is winning the popular vote.

1) The democratic nomination process is NOT based on the popular vote. It has been based on state delegates for decades. If you want to change this rule you needed to do that before the nomination process started not at the end when you realized you were losing.

It is like saying after you lost a football game by 21-17 that you decide arbitrarily to say that a touchdown no longer counts for 6 points but rather 4 points. How does anyone actually think that would be fair??

2) Second point is if you even had an argument for the popular vote case you are not counting all the votes in the caucus states as they don't record popular vote. So now you are disenfranchising all the caucus states. But apparently Hillary doesn't care about them because that would not help her losing case.
Puerto Ricans are "aficionados" of Hillary Clinton.
She won't give up. This is absolutely amazing and silly at the same time.

What does Hillary have to gain from protracting this fight, demanding 100% of the Michigan vote?  Even with Michigan and Florida, she still won't be ahead in the delegate count.  She wants to change the rules she agreed to in the Michigan-Florida primaries, so the next game changer is to demand that the popular vote trumps the delegate count?
of course she ignored the question about the proceedsing - if she commented, she would have to acknowledge that Obama has won -- that might impact her narcissistic desire to have a "BIG" (hillary-ese)
tomorrow in a commonwealth with zero true electoral power, Si los vecinos en Puerto Rico  tienen informacion correcta acerca de la elecion, ellos no vaya a votar manana. Obama -Richardson '08
And it's importance is such that no cable news network has bothered to cut to it even once!
OBAMA HAS RESEINED FROM HIS CHURCH !!!
"We know it's not done in the states. But Hillary is learning to campaign borriqua-style."                                                                                                                                                            I don't speak Spanish, but borriqua means "tragically desperate"
Who Cares.. They can't vote in the GENERAL ELECTION for President.
How sad.

She needs to be touring Upstate New York where businesses are struggling, and families are moving out of State because of lack of jobs and poor schools.
End this madness.  Obama is the future, and has energized the electorate like no other candidate since Kennedy.
With all these flying around by the clinton and oboamas it surely is using up our precious gas resources..... I am stuck riding a city bus... while they go around the country and out side as well with how many planes assigned to their groups  proabably more than several
Is this woman nuts?  She is as much in denial as GW!!!  Man, we dodged a bullet on this one.
I really applaud Hillary for taking this to the end.  It shows just how far the other side will go.  I think she has the intelligence to be president.  We dont need another president learning on the job.  We are in a mess in our government and we need someone with the know how to get us out of it.
Do I hear a fat lady warming up?
I am a 55 year old white woman who will never vote for another Clinton.  She can ride in all the parades she wants but the fact is that Obama will be our nominee.
Senator Clinton is hanging in there and she is
a class act. She is not scared to get close to people
and be real. She is passing this test with flying colors, I wonder what God has in mind for her to do.
She has transcended politics and is now a role model
for courage in the face of adversity.
I'm one of the Michigan non-committed, had I known that by voting this way my vote could possibily be given to someone I didn't vote for I wouldn't have voted at all in the primary. I think the Michigan, Florida situation was deliberate and un-fair to the voters of both States.
All we ever hear amymore from Democrat politicians is whine, whine, whine when it doesn't go their way.  When my kids lost at something, I said "suck it up, and move on!"  When are politicians going to be for the good of the country? and I'm a democrat!
Let's declare Puerto Rico a separate country and they can elect Hillary president.....problem solved !
The caravan will actually turn out to be Hillary's goodby parade ( pssst...don't tell her, let it be a surprise).
This is unbelievable that Clinton's camp wants to challenge this decision on Florida and Michigan. Both states violated the Dems rule for when to have to have the primary, Clinton originally supported not including the delegates. But now that she is grasping at straws she continues to want to change the rules in the middle of the game. Obama stuck with the Dems original plans to not participate in an early primary in both states. It is clear that Obama had no to very little campaiging in both states, but Clinton wants it all. I wish she would be more gracious in defeat. I would set a far better example for those who follow her, than the example of trying to win at any costs and potentially damaging the Dems chances of winning in November.
Very descriptive.  Wish I was there.  It doesn't look too good for Hillary but I wish her the very best.  She deserves to win.  She's a fighter & she's by far the best candidate.  Folsom, Calif.
This sounds like communistic politics.
