Rules committee reaches deal

Posted: Saturday, May 31, 2008 6:24 PM by Domenico Montanaro

From NBC's Chuck Todd and Domenico Montanaro
The rules committee has come to an agreement on both Michigan and Florida, a rules committee member confirms to First Read. Florida was not a problem during the luncheon meeting, but Michigan was an all together different story.

It looked as if the agreement they were going to come to was going to pass by a razor-thin, one or two person, majority, but they went back because they didn't want that. They wanted a closer show of unaninimity. The rules member is confident 20 or 21 will vote in favor of the agreement, but pro-Clinton members will argue heavily in favor of a hard line regardless.

The deal reached, NBC NEWS has learned, is a 69-59 split with half votes in Michigan. Obama will be guaranteed the two add-on superdelegates. NBC NEWS has not confirmed if the superdelegates will get half or full votes.

Florida will be split by the primary vote and votes will count for half.

I can't help thinking that a paid supporter of a candidate should recuse themselves from a committee that is meeting to resolve a dispute involving that candidate.

And as I saw at the RBC it was insider manuevering followed by petulant defeat at it's worst. Shame on you Hillary Clinton and Harold Ickes.
IT'S IMPORTANT TO NOTE THAT THE CLINTON SUPPORTERS AND THE OBAMA SUPPORTERS ON THE DNC BOTH WORKED TOGETHER TO RESOLVE THE MI & FL ISSUE.

FL & MI ALSO PRESENTED THEIR OWN PLANS THEY WERE APPROVED AND ADOPTED

THAT'S UNITY THAT'S TEAM WORK.

THIS WAS NOT ABOUT THE CANDIDATE AND NOT ABOUT THE DNC.

THOSE UNHAPPY HAVE PROVED THAT IT WAS NEVER ABOUT FL OR MI BECAUSE THEY ARE SATISFIED SINCE THEIR PLANS WERE APPROVED

ANYONE STILL COMPLAINING IT'S ABOUT THEM AND THEY SHOULD DECIDE HOW THEY PROCEED IN THE BEST INTEREST OF THEIR FAMILY.
the rules committee was very fair in their 50% decision. there had to be some penalty to set a precedent for future rules enforcement. there also had to be some compromise to allow the states representation.

i think the committee made a mistake, however, in the michigan decision. they gave hillary a reason for continuing her rant about unfairness. should she fail to win the nomination, she will forever moan and complain about the election being stolen from her.

this is a woman who can stare into the camera and claim a majority in the popular vote based on a primary where obama did not compete. i have no doubts that she would carry the michigan complaint to her grave.

i am a woman and am embarassed by her whining. this is the legacy of the most successful female presidential candidate. embarassing. she's proving the woman haters right.

btw, i changed from clinton to obama, not because he is black, as ferraro says, but because clinton proved herself too dishonest and deceitful. in that, she would be a third bush term.

I wonder why there is no discussion here?  After 20 years Mr. Obama is finally leaving his church!!! He should be embarrassed to be associated with that kind of preaching.  Yet he listened to it for most of his adult life. Political move , perhaps???  I see he is wearing a flag lapel pin daily too.  It's all about politics.  I thought it was, and HE was, all about change?????  Yea right!  Wake up people.  He is just another politician, and inexperience at that....not what this country needs right now.
What Happened? Yes, anything can happen. HRC has been ridiculed, vile, and made vulgar remarks overseas and here. It is evident; this is about race and gender. We knew this to start with, and the media fueled this gender war, and gave Obama a free ride. Nothing negative about him??. Since this Admstr. lied to us, but was ambivalent to speak up against the war and the president. Not such a free country, when we, and the Military cannot criticize the government. No different than it is in China. How to redeem HRC?, when they have stolen the election from her, and that is to PROTEST until she wins the election. All women’s rights are at stake here, and we should stand against this blatant discrimination. Don't vote for Obama, nor McCain-does not admit mistakes. Some will not even vote, because the ones that get elected never do anything to help the poor people. The other countries will never deal with Obama because they say he is a Muslim, did drugs and had a sexual affair with Larry Sinclair in 1999. There is a lot of chatter overseas that they would not deal with him. Don't discriminate against Hillary, and do everything to get her elected, as she is the most worthy to do the job. Obama has too many negatives; has too many shady preachers. He''ll defect like he did leaving his church:he left his God. A devout Christian would not excommunicate himself from God, only a devout Muslim would do that. He uses bad judgment.
